appeal letter for santana lopez

NYADA Academic Standards Committee
Hello. I’m writing this letter to prevent a fate worse than death for Santana Lopez. It is said that she is being unfairly threatened for trying to protest cruelty. All of the Lord’s creations deserve a chance to repent.
After all, “[a] prisoner cannot free himself.” (Berachot 5b). You must give them the opportunity to prove they will do well with freedom. What else is there, in a school about reform, but leaps of faith for students who are only trying to do well?
“Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.” (Exodus, 23:7). I’m sure you have your reasons for interpreting the protest of cruelty as a charge, but seeking justice is not a fault. You might be concerned about the test of faith that Santana Lopez brings onto the student body. However, “[let] not the hatred of a people swerve you away from justice.  Be just, for this is closest to righteousness…” (Quran 5:8).
“If you take your neighbour’s cloak as a pledge, return it to him by sunset, because his cloak is the only covering he has for his body. What else will he sleep in? When he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.” (Exodus 22: 25-26). You have taken Santana Lopez’s freedom as a pledge, and by doing charitable deeds, this pledge hasn’t been broken. It’s been tested, maybe, but not broken. Returning to Santana Lopez her freedom, by the end of her time here, is something you must consider. What else will she live in, if it’s not freedom?
If you are struggling to forgive, struggling to allow Santana Lopez’s redemption, think of the Lord. For indeed, “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;” (Daniel 9:9).
Signed,
Joe Hart.
Peace be upon You.
