We know a lot, if it makes sense, there's multiple different worlds we can access, with multiple different versions of this world, we can draw assumptions based on that.
As for the reason we call them main, is due to 1 their position in the show, and two, their file numbers, for example, shelly is M-004
We assume this means main character, the other designations for the other 4 are the same, except dandy, he is L-001 we assume this means lethal
And we do know what would happen if each toon room was gotten
For example, if Finn was taken, he would lose his legs, and slow anyone who completes a machine down significantly for a time, no matter the distance between them or if they can see him
Now, twisted have on thing you must note about them , line of sight, if you run and lose line of sight from them for enough time, some have high attention spans (4-5 seconds) and some low (2-3 seconds)
If you can stay out of their sight for the attention span, they will forget you were there an leave
Here's a list:
Does block line of sight:
Walls
Counters
Crates
Shelves (even with gaps in them)
What won't:
Machines
Other toons

[You mention there being more than one "version" of this world... I'm curious what you mean by that. As for the information given, some of it conflicts with the behaviors I've noticed from Shrimpo and, with the little I've seen her, Scraps. I too have observed that it does not take long for either to lose interest once out of sight, but hiding isn't so much about the object of choice as it is about whether it fully conceals you. An empty machine won't do much in this scenario, no, but a filled one may if the Toon can stay close enough to the wall! Perhaps that difference is a result of what you mentioned, about there being different instances of this reality. It sounds to me like the one you're familiar with works in a much more rigid way. It almost makes me think of a video game...]
