You might've answered this already and I just didn't find it, but one thing that always perplexed me about Duke was how old he was in comparison to the other Batkids. It's obvious he's younger than Dick and Babs, and I pretty sure he's younger than Jason and Cass, and older than Damian, but I cannot tell if he's meant to be Tim and Steph's ages, younger, or older. Could you help me?

You’re all kinds of good here, anon!!! I answered a similar ask abt the Order of Adoption but didn’t dive into specific ages on that post BECAUSE well they didn’t ask lmaooo but ALSO:

Comic ages are very fluid usually! While Years™️ might pass in the canon proper, or while time seems to slow to a crawl, having a character’s age outright stated is something that occurs very rarely for most characters, if at all!

Because it’s always much easier to have a floating age range to work and play around in! It’s easier to keep a character Perpetually 12 or 16 or 25 or mid-40s or- you get the idea. SO, with that in mind. Let’s do our Best to Break Down What Age Duke Might Be Currently A N D how it might interact with the Other Batkids!

(Warning for a Very Long Post, lots of issue citations, and a LOT of comics terminology regarding specific runs/events/continunity. I’m gonna try to keep it as clear/concise as possible ofc but plz keep these things in mind! If you’re not at least marginally familiar with Bat-Comics, you might find yourself feeling a little lost here!)

So from the Zero Year arc we see a common Trend that plays out pretty consistently with Batfam comics: a Life-Changing Event Occuring while the protag is Young™️.

With how Duke is drawn in these particular issues, and given the trends of the past, I’d place him in the 8-12 range. The historic precedent being ofc that that is the same range that canon usually places both Bruce and Dick at for their Tragedies™; the more benign reason being that he... just very much Looks to be drawn in that Range. He’s very clearly an Older/Prepubescent child here.

Fast Forward to his Next Appearance in the Endgame arc and-

(Batman (2011) #37)

He’s definitely older! He’s wiser! And he’s giving Batman a fistbump lmao. Again, no strict age given here BUT, since they condensed each Robin to a Year or Two tops with Bruce (its n52 and its fucked up is what it is), we can assume it’s been at least 4-5 since Zero Year (which would mean if we go off the age range I proposed for that year, then theoretically he could be anywhere from 12-16 here, and I think that tracks pretty well. Not Perfectly and Certainly Not so well with Pre52 continuity ofc, but I’ll talk about that later!)

In We Are Robin, while its not stated Directly In The Text, it IS given as an Informational Tidbit that Duke is 16 (specifically this can be found at the end of issue #4)! (Sweet sweet canon confirmation FINALLY)

We know that WAR takes place Fairly Soon after Endgame (almost immediately, give or take a month or two given that Duke’s been placed in a few foster homes at this point and has racked up Quite A File) now, again id like to remind y’all that while this is a NICE starting point to have, keep in mind that comics are fluid and this may be retconned slightly/ignored in later stories bc Keeping Duke 16-ish is in DC’s Best Interest at the moment. (Having Relatable Teen Characters afterall is a Good Marketing strategy™️. And the longer they can Keep them Young, the Better)

With that in mind let’s take a moment to Highlight the fact that Duke and Damian have crossed paths at this point AND the storylines that have occurred during this year that were meant to be in conjunction with one another!

Because Prior to Endgame, Damian had Died! And just a year (in real, meat-space time) before We Are Robin, he was resurrected and had begun his “Year of Atonement” in the Robin: Son of Batman maxiseries. Midway through both this series and WAR (and, we can assume, midway thru this “Year” for Damian) the Robin War begins/ends and we see at least one major Moment between these two boys who will soon call one another brothers:

Given that R:SoB is followed up VERY quickly by Teen Titans Rebirth (in which Damian celebrates his 13th birthday), we can conclude that Damian would be 12 during this time (well, 12 and 1/2 to play it safe lmao). That being said, this Confirms about a 4yr gap between Duke and Damian! (One Batkid down at least! but he’s the key to the others so put a pin in him!)

As We Are Robin draws to its conclusion, DC was releasing another arc that would eventually flow into the Rebirth Era, by the end of which, Bruce would approach Duke with an Idea (which involves Bruce becoming Dukes temporary guardian & as he states Many Times “Trying Something New” with Duke).

And thus the Rebirth Era begins, and Duke began his Year of training (most directly encapsulated by the Cursed Wheel arc in the All-Star Batman run:

Bruce introduces Duke to a training regimen that Alfred has named “the Cursed Wheel”. It encompasses all the training Bruce and the other bats have undergone and condenses it down into color-coordinated segments that will take Duke a Year to Complete.

It can be assumed that by the End of this Year Duke will somehow miraculously still be 16, despite, again, an entire ass year passing.

There’s one story that takes place mid-year in All-Star Batman, and the Cursed Wheel is meant to be capped off by Duke’s first Official Day as the Signal (in the titular Batman & the Signal ofc) BUT, near as I can tell after this story, Dukes age is not brought up again. So until they DO bring it up either in Batman & the Outsiders or whatever future run Duke becomes involved in, we can assume DC will be working with the idea that he’s meant to be in that 16-18 range from here on out (ie still a minor).

But, dear anon, you might be saying “okay, that’s cool, but how does that relate to my question abt how he falls in with the other Bats?” You’ll have to be a little patient with me here, but I think I may have cracked the code!

Keep in mind I’m gonna be addressing both the Post-Crisis to Flashpoint Continuity (ie mid-80s to 2010 in comics history) and the N52-slash-Rebirth Era (2010-Today). Its generally agreed by fandom and DC alike that these points of rebooting &/or Major Events constitute the era of “Modern” comics, and that everything from the 80s-on might more or less be canon on some level, even if not All of it is.

(Plus, most of fandom usually likes to borrow elements from both eras and much more rarely from stories before it, SO-)

Lets do a quick rundown of how everyone who’s Closer to Duke’s Age, Relates to each other first, age-wise:

Given that Jason was 15 when he died, in A Lonely Place of Dying its established that Bruce had become increasingly reckless since his death, and by the end of the story, Tim has stepped in to fill Robin’s shoes (he states that he’s 13 during this story btw). Pretty soon after, Stephanie Brown is introduced & established to be about a year older than Tim (wish I could pin-point a specific issue BUT, i unfortunately haven’t read any Tim OR Steph-involved comics that predate No Man’s Land... Besides the aforementioned Lonely Place and Young Justice technically, but im working on remedying that soon!)

NOW, during the No Man’s Land event, Cassandra is introduced, and pretty soon into her Batgirl run, its revealed that she’s around the same age as Jason (or at least how old he Would Have Been, had he not died.) Now, given that Jay has an August bday and Cass has a January one, fandom sometimes likes to play around with the idea of one being older than the other (OR even speculating/placing them in an AU as twins/siblings, given that Lady Shiva (Cass’ mom) was a Possible Candidate to be Jason’s biological mother but that’s a Whole Other Thing i wont get into here.)

The point being, Cass, in this era of comics, IS slightly older than Tim and Steph. At Tim’s start as Robin, their ages could either line up like: Tim-13, Steph-14, Cass-15 (being a few months ‘behind’ Jay), then Jason at 15/16 (depending on how soon Tim filled the role after Jay died in April) OR Jason-15/16, Cass-16/17 (in this case she’d be a few months ‘ahead’ now instead)

So brief detour to talk New 52, however! Because Tim, Steph & Cass all got switched around from where DC originally left them prior to the reboot! Now I haven’t read much of them in this era, other than Batman & Robin: Eternal, so my Understanding of their current ages is Spotty at Best. The general consensus seems to be that while before N52, Stephanie had been attending her first year of College (& doing VERY WELL i might add), with the reboot she was set back a few years alongside Tim to a vague Late-Teen state (so 16-18-ish, instead of a Very Clearly Established 18/19). Cass is probably the worst off for this reboot, given that B&R:E basically constitutes her new origin for the new continuity, and does nothing to confirm her age (all I really know is that she’s a Vague Late-Teen too... Probably? Maybe?), given how much they infantilize her, and subsequently how fandom in turn has taken to infantilizing her too, theres a semi-popular fanon that places her Younger that Tim and Steph. And I, for one, propose that we ignore that bc its Weak Sauce my dudes.

Some fans chose to ignore N52 continuity due to this vagueness, and will stick to the ages established before the N52/Rebirth reboots. But its something to keep in mind regardless bc we’re all obviously going to pull from what’s most familiar to us!

But WHERE could we place Duke with regards to them, then? Because them being “Late Teens” is certainly much too vague to work with!

This is Where Damian is the key!

Because Damian is one of those rare exceptions to the Reboot Rule. His story flowed almost seamlessly over from before to after. While he was made a Robin at the age of 10, he continued to grow and learn even after the universe was being rewritten to suit the whims of DC editorial. 

If we choose to ignore how everyone else’s ages and origins were swapped around, and stick with the growth that was presented before the reboot, then we can draw some interesting conclusions!

Firstly, though Stephanie also had Died and subsequently Returned, she hadn’t lost much, if any time, from the Ordeal. At the start of her Batgirl run, she is enrolled at a Gotham university and making headway with a more firm foot in the Batfamily (even to the point that she and Damian spend a few issues bonding. At this point in time, Damian is definitely 11, and again, Steph can be assumed to be 18/19 during the course of her run. We’ll assume 18 for clarity’s sake.)

So, then when Damian is 11, now our line up is as Follows:

Dami - 11, Steph - 18, Tim - 17, Cass 19-21 (the range depending again, if you subscribe to Cass being either older/younger than Jason).

WHICH MEANS, If during Robin War Damian is 12 (and a half) THEN We’ve got an age line-up that Potentially looks Like This:

Dami -12(and 1/2), Duke - 16, Tim - 18, Steph - 19, Cass - 20-22 (And Obvsly Jason, Babs & Dick at their varying Older Ages than everyone here)

and im just now realizing i Didnt include Harper in this line-up, but thats bc she’d also throw a big wrench in all this.  I’d personally throw her in with being Steph’s age, but I’m pretty sure she was supposed to be either that, or between Steph and Cass (again, since its N52, i believe Cass was/is assumed to be Younger than Steph, but that contradicts the assumed following of pre52 canon that we have for the above line-up, obvsly, and so we ignore that lmao) 

All this to say, however, that canon and fandom is what you make of it, and if you want to wiggle these ages around a little, you’re more than allowed! God Knows i usually like to skew the Tim-Steph-Cass age group to be a tad older than this in my own fic writing, and I like to have Duke start as a Robin at 14/15 instead of 16, but that’s just bc I like the dynamic potential it could bring with them being Definitively Older that him, and thus in a more secure place to be Mentoring him right alongside Bruce & the others.

But you might see these age ranges and want to do something Different (say, making Tim, Steph, Cass, & Duke all the Same Age at 17 instead! And that very well tracks with how current comics kinda looks right now!) and you’re absolutely valid to do so! Because again, comic character’s ages are meant to be fluid, not fixed!

And at the end of the day, its all about wanting to see these teen heroes kick serious ass haha

y’know the wildest thing still to happen to me on this hellsite was my first experience of sexting, sans nudes, that was done in front of at least 250-500 followers because of those horny anons i had in early 2013 when i was 17. instead of being exposed to it on my phone privately with a partner at that age, it was done publicly for the internet to see lmao. i remember begging the anons to stop and “come off anon” because i was “losing followers” at the time too bc i was so insecure about my follower count lmao. and then yeah when they came off anon they were both 28 years old.

to write the responses, i just consulted cosmo mag sex pages for ideas hoping that the anons would like the options i chose. in one i detailed doing anal- a sex act i hadn’t even done yet irl- let alone every other thing i suggested in them (head, idek long, drawn out foreplay, some stupid fancy sex moves that cosmo was all like “use these moves to spice up your sex life 🔥🔥”, sex in a bath, i’m pretty sure i had some lines about tying or handcuffing them to a bed (????) etc etc etc)….

when again, i had never even done any of those above sex acts in real life. i was a naive teen who was incredibly shy in regards towards her love life because she’d “never been kissed” and had never had the “hot emo boyfriend whose in a band and is covered in tattoos” she’d always wanted, let alone even a boyfriend that she had actually fucking liked (ie clear braces boy, for like a month in year 9/2010 vs the popular boys that made fun of her, that she always had unrequited crushes on)…. hell, my blog title when i first started on here in 2011 was “the perfect epitome of being forever alone” because of these very reasons. but here she was, writing explicit sex acts to strangers like she knew what the fuck she was doing, to an audience of 250-500 people- and then to fucking grown ass men in inboxes. i was just parroting the shit i’d read in cosmo (both sex advice and sometimes excerpts of erotica/“sexy, steamy reads” they had some months) and also heard repeatedly in the porn that my high school stalker/creeper at public school loved to show (harass) me with to flirt with me, whenever we were alone together at school in 2012/2013.

like you could tell how naive i was….. because i used ridiculous lines like “like a gentleman entranced, you lead me to the bath for our next foray” and dumbass prose-y things like that. because what the fuck does that even mean 😂😅????

and this is why i think minors should be careful with their online experiences. like yeah, you could say that i wasn’t a minor anymore- more of a “young adult”- who should of made the smart decision to not engage with these anons. but i was a kid. i thought it was fun. and when the dudes came off anon, i thought to myself “it’s not like i’m ever gonna meet them if i ever go to the US or puerto rico at any point. it’s not like that they’ll ever recognise me in person or ever reach out to me again in the future. i might as well do it.” and i did eventually end up ignoring the guys in my inbox, due to my mental health kinda plummeting from the middle til the end of 2013 because of my end of high school exams and stuff… and also the puerto rican guy’s infamously inappropriate “hot PE teacher fucks HOT female high school student in the girls change room showers” fantasy which fucking disgusted me, when he full well knew that i was STILL IN high school.

and obviously again, there’s the point about using the “block” button function. but as i’ve stated several times over my years on here, back in my early days of tumblr, i never wanted to block or unfollow people (even if they were trash like these two men), because it seemed so “mean” and “final”. obvs now i have no qualms about blocking people, and actively encourage younger people on here to use the block button with reckless abandon towards creepy people or people who can hurt them in some way. but to high school teenage me, the whole “using the block button” thing seemed to go against me being a “nice girl/person” so i never used it, no matter which social media platform i was on.

but i decided posting nudes or other explicit images on here was an absolute no go, because i realised that i never wanted people that i knew digging up barely clothed/naked pics of me and sending them to me all like “hey, is this you?” and then possibly mocking me, all because i would’ve been dumb enough to put my face in them probably at the time. now when i take nudes and send them, i never show my face. because i know now, that even in relationships, your partner can use nude pics as leverage for arguments or to abuse you in such a way that they’ll upload your pics without your knowledge to god knows where on the internet probably as a way to get back at you in a horrible breakup.

Been thinking about the timeline... I know oKAY I KNOW... but listen isn’t it possible it has been three years? Maybe each season is 6 months long. In that case, Patrick comes into the picture about 1 year and 3 months into it. So that would almost make David/Patrick comments about “2 years” kinda make sense because by season 6 they’d have been together like a year and a half plus so maybe they’re rounding? Okay okay I know I’m wrong but I just want to to make sense!!!

honestly, running with about 6 months per season does probably work the best in a very general sense. but ultimately there are some things that support that and some that don’t, which is pretty much true of every way you try to look at the timeline.

i’m pretty sure we can at least accept that the first two seasons take place over about a year. (a year ago we had a staff of 25… / ronnie says you’ve only lived here a year / are you complaining about the quality of the free lodging i’ve arranged for you this past year? / this is the first real money we’ve seen in a year.) there’s not a whole lot within those two seasons to contradict that, so we can run with that.

johnny says in murder mystery it’s been 3 years since he played a round of golf, but okay, maybe he hadn’t played in a while even before they lost their money. i’ll let that one slide.

another point in your favor is ronnie telling moira in stop saying lice! that she still has 3 ½ more years on council. it’s been about a season since she was elected to her 4 year term then, so that pans out. 

but then moira says in dead guy in room 4 that she’s endured a cornucopia of trauma the last few years, which……. is definitely a stretch if we’re looking at about a year and a half there.

david says in girls’ night that it’s been a year since ted and alexis split, which works in your favor as well. 

but then just 8 episodes later, ted tells alexis he’s thought about kissing her every day for the last two years. maybe he’s rounding up, but i definitely don’t like it lol. 

in that same vein, joan says in sebastien raine that she’s been trying to set ted up with her granddaughter for 2 years, but it’s pointless because she’s not alexis, which implies that ted and alexis have been split for 2 years at that point. however, their split had happened not quite 2 seasons ago by that episode, which should only be a year if we’re running with the season = 6 months theory. maybe she was trying to set him up with her granddaughter starting before alexis came along, but that’s not really the implication of this line.

in mcjr, johnny says this is their third christmas in sc. IF they originally moved to sc right before christmas, it can conceivably be about two years at this point. however, nothing about any of the first few episodes of the show is conceivably wintery, so this one really takes some suspension of disbelief on that front. (nevermind the fact that none of the other episodes from what would presumably be their second christmas there around the end of s2/start of s3 mention anything at all about winter, christmas, hanukkah, etc either. it is truly eternally summer in sc, which adds to how fake time feels at any given point lol.)

over the course of s4, jocelyn has a baby, so presumably s4 is prob a bit longer than 6 months. david and patrick’s 4 month anniversary happens right at the halfway point, so let’s say maybe the season is closer to 8 months long, which is plausible. that’s not terribly far off of 6 months, but just something to keep in mind.

roland jr is then implied to be 8 months old as of love letters, which means that 8 months have passed between then and singles week.

in that case we’re looking at 8 months for s4 (minus mcjr), 8 months between seasons (including mcjr), and let’s go back to 6 months again for s5. so by the end of s5 we’re conceivably at 3 years and 4 months in sc. 

johnny partners with stevie on the motel in new car, and in the hospies he says it’s been a couple of years’ work. as long as we’re remembering the gap between the season’s there, i think that’s fine. we’re looking at just about two seasons, but plus the extra 8 months between, yeah, that’s 2ish years.

david says in liac that he went to fill out his business license two years ago. that’s about the same time frame as the previous johnny/stevie point, so i’ll allow it.

s6 goes and makes everything a little weird because somehow the first 6 episodes supposedly take place over the course of a month since it’s all before alexis’s flight is supposed to leave. that’s a weird shift from the other seasons, but if it’s not terribly long after that johnny says they’ve been staying in the motel for the last 3 years, he’s not that far off. we’d be at 3 years, 5 months or so by the middle of s6, so presumably it’s at least not quite 4 years yet by the time johnny says it, so i’ll give it to him.

those are the really broad strokes of the timeline. as you can see, there are a few things that we have to kind of sweep under the rug–which is the way the timeline always works–but some of them are at least more vague as markers anyway, so if you want to run with the 6 month theory, as long as you extend s4 by a couple months, it probably does work the best out of any fixed-length per season option.

however, it’s really when you get down into some of the details that things start to give you a headache. for instance, i wrote a whole entire primer on s4′s issues with david’s brithday and jocelyn’s pregnancy here, so feel free to dive into that if you’d like to pull your own hair out lol. those are really the kinds of things we’re talking about when we joke about the timeline being a disaster. 

ALSO something else i didn’t get into in that post is that rachel says in the barbecue that she’s trying to win her fiance back 6 months later. david and patrick have been dating for 4 months at that point. so in the 2 months before that, patrick apparently left his fiance, moved to a new town, started a new job, met the love of his life, decided to invest in his new business, applied for grants (and received them), helped get everything ready for the soft launch, and finally once their store is up and running asked his business partner out on a date. i’m not saying it’s impossible for that to have happened over 2 months–well no actually i am saying it’s impossible, lolol. the grants alone would take at least that long lmao. even if we’re running with the 6 months per season, that’s about half a season or 3 months, and that’s still awfully quick for alla that to happen. yeah yeah, suspension of disbelief, yadda yadda yadda, but i’m just saying there are a lot of spots that we have to kind of wave our hands at to make whichever timeline of your choice work.

also there’s the june 22 open mic poster in the bathroom at the apothecary, which adds a whole other conundrum because if it’s for the original open mic, which has to take place between david’s birthday and their 4 month anniversary, that only really works if david’s birthday is in april or so, which does not at all work with alexis graduating on his birthday or any of the numbers he gives. and if it’s for another upcoming open mic night, that means it has to be sometime before june 22 in roadkill when we see the poster, which is about 2/3 of the way into the season, making the start of the season february-ish? but that doesn’t even come close to working with an 8 month time jump between mcjr and love letters. in that case love letters has to take place in june, but then randomly 2/3 of a season later there’s a june event poster in their [recently redesigned] bathroom??? that seems to imply that maybe it really is a poster for the original open mic night, but as i just said, there are issues with making that theory work as well.

(and that’s just the actual time in sc timeline. i didn’t even touch on moira’s career timeline or how long she and johnny have been married, where over the course of just s5 and s6, we’ve gotten we’re still here 35 years later / after an award-worthy trilogy of decades together / your father and i have produced beautiful wine together for over forty years.)

so again, yes, i think in broad strokes you can kinda run with each season being about 6 months or so if that’s what you want to go with, but there are certainly things you have to ignore to make that work. 

and that’s just how the timeline is.

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  She is way too stubborn & it takes AGES to form a real relationship with her; so petty & weak-willed when it comes to her own desires; way too set on her own belief; the whole humanity-is-bad stick gets old quick; her being paranoid about every SINGLE thing; her whole concept is less about her own power but more about the control of said power & how she deals with her being pressured into the position she is

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  i love mythology & the lore within Christianity (mainly the characters, stories; def more a fan of the “evil” stuff )  i love horror; i love paranormal stuff & if you combine everything, you have yunaeisha & her sisters. the lore ( which is massive & yuna’s story plays within present-day while most of it plays in the past) is something i hold dear to my heart; i worked on it for many years, since approx. 2014-2015. yuna embodies a lot of the pain of my previous characters; not knowing her place in the universe while KNOWING that you have to function within this society that deems you’re not a part of them, either. she’s honest & a bad bitch with a very soft side; i love her a lot & she’s grown so much. my love for her inspired me & how much more i wanted to flesh her out. 

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  I constantly find new stuff that i could implement within yuna; i dream A LOT about my characters, actually, & i always try to put some material of those dreams into her. i love russia as a land; the language, the clothes, the cities. i love mythology; i love her aesthetic & i always find something that could be of use. simply going outside & watching people interact makes me think instantly; how would yuna react ? how would she talk ? i try to keep her as real possible & thus, i constantly think about her.

Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  I rarely get question but i’d love if some more flew in; LET THEM BE IC QUESTIONS EVEN !! i had some muses be invested in yuna, but the more the merrier so OF COURSE !!! 

If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  yes, please !! if you think a headcanon might clash with another or you think, it might be really out of character or just generally unfitting for yuna; TELL ME !! i sometimes forget some minor headcanons, though, they can play a MAJOR role sometimes; if you become aware of that, please tell me. also, if you just generally don’t agree with it, PLEASE also tell me; i’m a really open-minded person & i’d love to hear your point of view. 

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  if someone disagrees; alright, then so be it. all people think differently; you can’t please everyone. yuna is my characters, however, her concept, of being half-demon, half-goddess, the child of lilith, has been done before & thus, i know some might not agree how i portray yuna within that concept & that’s okay; though, if you outright HATE on it; why ? if you think you can do it better; make your own lore & character but don’t hate on anyone. with that said, i personally don't have anything gainst people disagreeing; that’s just how life works; we can’t agree on everything. 

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  i’d be taken aback at first because of course, as the creator of yuna, i love her dearly. though, i could understand why; she does MANY things that are considered problematic & has no remorse, whatsoever; she seems very self-centered & almost toxic to some & i GET that’s not everyone’s cup of tea; however, she’s not ONLY that but it takes times to get through that layer; i understand not everyone likes such muses. it’s okay, i don’t mind it but don’t HATE on her, aggressively ?? telling me how shitty she is or how much she sucks, is not really nice, & i know she often sucks, you don’t have to tell me twice. 

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  — YES PLEASE !! i’m human, english is actually my third-language & i still make a lot of errors; probably did some in this post as well lmao. but seriously, if you see it & you feel like correcting it; PLEASE DO !! or just shoot me a quick message, saying that you have noticed that i OFTEN make a specific error. it helps a lot !! thank you.

XIV Reddit Drama

YO STORY TIME. If you don’t like still drama feel free to ignore. But I need to vent. I frequent the FFXIV Reddit, and I like to debate, discuss and in-general help people and hang with the memesters. Someone made a post about the facial hair in the 5.2 trailer, and so I replied: “ They said in the past during a Q and A that they are working on making it available for all races.” Someone replied to me “ But that was like half year ago  :/ “ Which to me is laughable. Half a year. Six months? There are plenty of features we waited AGES for. I replied “Lmao, you must be new here. I've waited YEARS for features I've wanted... Do you know how long it took them to implement letting us summon our chocobo while we're queued?!“ I thought my reply was pretty light hearted. Apparently it’s SUPER OFFENSIVE cause I got this in reply: “ The one who seems knew here is you. First off, how nice of you for being so rude and inmature. Second, not sure of what features you are asking, if its something Yoshi says he will add, it will be, if he doest then it wont. Your confuse since we cant summon a chocobo inside a dungeon and is not a priority since almost nobody care and is not needed “ :V I was having a good time talking to people about Innocence at the time, so I was really surprised to find this in my inbox. I had to double take. It was hard to read. I’m not usually one to be a grammar Nazi, but I really didn’t think this was warranted in the first place, so I poked fun at them some more. “Lmao woah woah woah.I'm definitely not "knew" here, and I certainly wasn't being "inmature". Nights before Lance has to leave are always the hardest for both of you. He thinks maybe, just maybe, if he stays awake as long as he can, he never has to leave you. And he can just stay in your arms, waiting for a time that will never come.

But time does come as he gives you something slow, and sweet to remember him by early in the morning before he has to leave. Lance’s touches are slow and electric, lazy and charged, his movements into you languid as his hands cup your face. Despite his unhurried movements, he has you reaching new heights and seeing stars with whispers of his name on your tongue.

For someone who was a self-proclaimed asshole, he sure was sweet and tender with you.

You help him pack for the remainder of the morning, sneaking in more than a few kisses that resulted in another round of sex on the couch. 

You take him to the airport, never letting go of his hand the entire drive there.

Lance gives you a big kiss just before the gate, lifting you up in his arms and you yelped in his arms but respond immediately, feeling everyone at the airport melt away from the both of you. His team cheers behind you and you pull away, a little dazed.

“Something to remember me by,” Lance winks at you, “I’m so romantic, aren’t I?”

“Yeah, right,” You roll your eyes with a smirk, “The only thing more romantic than that is if you proposed to me right now.”

“I love you, princess,” Lance says earnestly, kissing your forehead. He ignores the calls of his name from behind him.

“Good luck, baby. I’ll be watching. Be safe, call me when you land?” You suddenly feel vulnerable. He gives you one last hug and kisses your hair again before making his way over to the gate. 

He gives you one last wave, and turns around, knowing that if he sees your doe eyes, he wouldn’t be able to resist dragging you along with him.

Distance used to just be a word for you- a word to define how far a place was from another place. Distance was a word you used usually to describe places, not people. Even when you spent weeks, months away from your family, you didn’t really feel it. Of course, you missed them, but not in that bone crushing way that made your heart ache in your chest at the mere thought of their voices.

No, that was reserved for Lance Tucker. You both had recently moved in together, deciding that the original distance between the two of you was too much. You had picked up your things and moved into a new apartment with him near the training gym that Lance had become head coach of gymnastics at.

The decision to leave wasn’t even really much of a debate, to your surprise. You hadn’t hesitated when he broached the subject. Lance was half of your heart now, and any sacrifice you made for him wasn’t truly a sacrifice. Because you loved him, and you would never hold it against him. 

The old, single you would probably have scoffed at the current you. Independence was a label you wore proudly. You still were independent, but in a different way. In the way that you had learned how to exist in a long distance relationship while giving both him and yourself what you both needed. Lance has taught you so much about yourself. He has showed you hidden gems and treasures about yourself that he has proudly pulled out of you. Treasures that you didn’t even think you had.

It was serious. That scared you at first, causing you to shirk away from him a little bit, initially. But he knew you better than you did apparently, because he had given you space for a little bit before confessing to you that he was in this for the long haul, if you were.

Lance was a different person, too. He knew within the first month of dating you that he was in this for the long haul. You both had been surprised when he was the first one to say ‘I love you’- it had slipped out when you had tried your hand at baking brownies for his entire gymnastics team. 

Of course, they came out terribly, but he made his team pretend to enjoy the taste of your sugary cardboard, for your benefit. At least out of the pair of them, one of them could cook- and it wasn’t you.

Lance was in Tokyo for the Olympics this year and you were so incredibly jealous- you have always wanted to go to Japan. He had begged you to come but you couldn’t leave work for that long.

FaceTime wasn’t enough, phone calls weren’t enough, pictures weren’t enough. You feel his absence the most when you slept at night. The apartment didn’t feel right without him in it and your bed was empty without him next to you to hold you close to him.

He was your very own space heater, after all.

Hanging up with him during your last FaceTime call had been particularly painful for you. Your schedules only seemed to match up when it was late at night for you and mid afternoon for him. Lance felt bad keeping you awake, but you didn’t care. 

“How are the girls doing? Keeping them hydrated and happy?” You asked with a yawn. You’ve wrapped yourself in one of his hoodies and are laying on his side of the bed. His scent is barely there, but you lay there anyway. It still gives you comfort.

“They’re nervous. Excited but nervous,” Lance said. You heard his own nerves in his voice and you wish you were there with him to soothe them.

“They’re going to shine, Tuck,” You reassured him with a smile, “You’re their teacher after all.”

“They miss you, you know. Keep buggin’ me about why I didn’t bring you with me. Leila said she misses your brownies,” Lance snickered and you feigned hurt.

“Hey! My brownies are good!” You protested with a pout.

“Don’t pout at me, baby girl,” Lance murmured, “Makes me wish I could kiss you.”

“For the last time, I’m not having phone sex with you,” You said with a giggle. 

“I wasn’t trying to-” Lance sighed, “Okay, maybe a little bit.” 

Your smile faded slowly and you sighed heavily.

“I really miss you. My heart misses you,” You said sleepily, “You’re my whole heart, you know that right?”

“You’re my whole heart, princess,” He said, wishing you could be with him, “I love you.”

Before you knew it, tears sprung into your eyes and trickled down your face. It’s only been two weeks, and you’ve gone longer without seeing him. But this time just feels worse, somehow.

You had made the decision right then that you were going to surprise him in Tokyo. The thought makes you sleep a little easier, and when you wake up the next morning, the first thing you do is purchase plane tickets for the next flight you can take out to Japan.

Lance is cranky, to say the least. It takes almost all of his self-control to stop himself from snapping at his girls, at his staff, at everyone. They all look at him with a mixture of pity and annoyance. They know his attitude is because of your absence.

It doesn’t help that when he tried calling you, since the mere sound of your voice always calmed him down, you hadn’t picked up. He almost chucked his phone at the wall but restrained himself. 

Maybe you were just busy at work, he thinks to himself. Or maybe, you decided that you couldn’t do this anymore- the distance was too much.

No, he forces himself to steer away from that train of thought. You would never do him dirty like that. He trusts you, he loves you.

Lance repeats those words to himself in his head like a mantra, waiting for you to call him back.

Hours go by, and you still haven’t called him back. Lance is annoyed, taking out his irritation on his girls. You’d scold him for doing so. But you won’t even answer his texts or his phone calls. So he sits in his room and pouts, staring at his phone as if it’s wronged him.

Tokyo is absolutely breathtaking, you decide as you scan the city from the airport windows. It’s around 1:15 AM local time when you’ve landed and the city lights are comforting and encouraging, despite you being alone in a brand new city. 

The airport itself is frenetic with energy, people pushing past you quickly while you soak all of it in. You’re a little tired from being unable to sleep properly on the flight, but you barely feel it because you’re bouncing off the walls with excitement at being able to see Lance soon.

You probably stick out like a sore thumb, with cluelessness painted all over your face. You’ve managed to call Lance’s assistant ahead of time so that he could let you into the Olympic Village undetected. You expect to be thoroughly checked through security prior to arriving to the village, since you hadn’t arrived with the rest of the team.

You don’t care though, because that means you’re one step closer to being with Lance. Giddiness bursts in your chest at that thought.

It’s nearing 2:30 AM local time by the time you’re knocking on Lance’s door. The exhaustion is catching up to you now, but your heart is racing in anticipation. Something warm spreads throughout you as your knuckles rapping against the door in nervousness.

You wait a minute and frown when you hear no movement behind the door. Lance wasn’t that heavy of a sleeper. You knock again, a little louder while dialing his number on your phone. You hear his ringer go off and he’s probably groaning at the sound. But he answers-

“Hello?” Lance’s voices is hoarse with fatigue. You knock again, whispering a soft greeting so he doesn’t know you’re behind the door. He can barely hear you, but he’s still adjusting to all the noises around him.

He grumbles, cursing under his breath before he throws the door open, ready to curse whoever is knocking at his door at 2:30 AM into oblivion. 

But it’s you. Lance blinks at you with wide eyes, the neurons in his brain firing slower than usual. It’s you- your curly hair is tied up in a ponytail, you’re wearing one of his hoodies and a suitcase is standing on your right side. Your brown eyes are tinged with fatigue, your glasses sliding down your nose, but your smile is shy.

It’s really you. 

“You got plans tonight, baby?” You ask meekly. Lance yanks you to him by your forearm and you squeak, before he crushes you to his chest. His embrace is so tight that you need a minute to breathe. But this is your favorite place to be. 

He’s the missing puzzle piece that you’ve been looking for.

It’s only been two weeks, two very long weeks, but he feels your absence even more now that you’re in his arms.

“How did you- what are you- how was your flight?” He tugs your suitcase into his room, refusing to take his eyes off of you. The dark circles under his eyes are prominent, and you know he’s been stressed. 

“Long,” You reply, “I was a couple hundred miles from Japan and I... just couldn’t get you off my mind.” It was corny, but it was true. 

Lance presses his lips to yours hastily and you sigh contentedly, letting him push you up against the wall behind you. He lifts you up easily and your legs wrap around his waist, tugging him closer to you. He pulls away and rests his forehead on yours, trailing a finger down your jawline.

“You need to sleep, boo,” You whisper, “I didn’t mean to wake you-”

He shushes you with a kiss but you feel bad, you really do.

“You missed my dick so much that you flew all the way out here?” He teases you with a smirk.

“Yeah, I flew three-thousand or so miles because of your stroke game, Tuck,” You roll your eyes fondly, “Don’t flatter yourself.”

“I missed you, too,” Lance murmurs, his hands roaming your sides, under your shirt, “I was mad at you today.”

“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” You ask curiously, raking your fingers through his hair. You missed this.

“You didn’t answer any of my phone calls,” He pouts at you and you laugh. 

“Don’t pout at me, baby. Makes me wish I could kiss you,” You mimic his words from the other night, “I hope you haven’t been annoying with the girls. You’re a menace when you’re cranky.”

“That’s so incredibly rude,” Lance says, pretending to be affronted. You kiss his cheek and leave his embrace, telling him that you’re going to take a shower to wash off the plane ride. You force him to get back into bed and at least close his eyes a little before you get in the shower. He protests, wanting to join you, but you lock the door behind you.

You know he’ll be awake waiting for you, so you make it quick. By the end of your shower, your heart feels a little more at ease. Your skin smells like him.

Lance moves over for you and you slide into bed next to him. You’ve become so accustomed to the bed you have at home that you have to spend a few moments fidgeting to get comfortable. Lance tucks you under him and envelopes you with more than half of his body. His head is in the crook of your neck, his hands loosely on your waist. You hum happily under him, your hands trailing up and down his bare chest. Your fingers travel up to his hair, and his eyes begin to close as you play with his hair. That always gets him to sleep quickly.

You allow yourself to sleep when you hear his breaths even out against your neck. You both sleep better than you’ve slept in days.

Have you ever met someone who didn’t seem real?

When I got this question I was like ‘do you answer on your phone’ and decided no because I have some fucking tales ok. You guys have all heard about this person if you’ve followed me for awhile- this is the person that I called on racism and she didn’t show up to school for a week after. But that is really only the tip of the ice berg.

So I meet this person at the beginning of my school year, who like me is named after a season, and she’s odd- wearing a cowboy hat with all these fandom pins and ok. That’s strange but ok. Then she starts talking, goes on an on about her kids, I discover that she’s 27 but if I were to age her by actions, style of dress, and mannerisms I’d put her at 17 and that’s only because she was in post secondary so that’s the youngest she could be. Otherwise I would have gone 15. And she has 2 kids. So ok. I leave and something is off about her but people can be eclectic and I don’t like being judgmental so I leave it be and let her actions speak for themselves rather than jumping to conclusions.

Class starts and she never. Shuts. The. Fuck. Up. And I don’t mean like useful advice, or even interesting facts that are irrelevant to the class but at least neat to know like another student in the class does. I mean every. Fucking. Thing. Out of her mouth is useless. So we all decide she’s annoying amongst each other and we all start to back away slowly.

Now we may seem like dickheads at this point but keep in mind, within a week, we all knew these things about her: she has 2 kids that were taken by child services and she complains about it a lot, she has an obsession with tiny houses, she’s a bronie and sometimes takes commissions for bronie porn, she’s a furry- which isn’t inherently bad but combined with the rest it just becomes another weird thing about her, she’s homophobic but also pansexual (??), she has a fiancee, but maybe also 2 boyfriends, we still aren’t sure and we’ve found her scrolling in dating sites, she’s an artist but I literally drew better at 12 (though in her slight defense I am naturally gifted at drawing), she tried to start a conversation with a friend of mine about incest on a busy street, and has a weird obsession with The Human Centipede. This isn’t even all of it, this is just the first fucking week.

So the semesters go by and in my school they’re 3 months long, which is a little shorter than normal universities, and we just got through our 3rd term. Here is what we know now. She lives in a small city (a couple hundred thousand people), but talks about it like its a small ass town like the one I came from (which is under 2000 people). Another student lives in the same city and has no fucking clue what she’s talking about. She’s sexist and racist (like hella racist- once she claimed that because she grew up with some Natives in her life she is one. That’s not how it works, and given how confused she seems to be on various cultural aspects that I know of from Natives in our area- which is admittedly not a lot I will full well acknowledge- this is a total lie). And she’s L O S T on all social cues. And not in a way where some people, like people on the autistic spectrum, are- I mean she intentionally has ignored social rules her whole fucking life and expects everyone to compensate for her bullshit kind of way.

And that’s a whole other thing. Not only is she racist, sexist, and homophobic, but she also has this obsession with bullying. She’s always on about high school (mostly in regards to herself- I will remind you all she’s 27) and bullying and has, on several occasions, defended school shooters and claimed they did it because bullying. As your local queer kid in a small, very homophobic town, eat shit bud white boys don’t school shoot because they were bullied- signed every other minority ever. Anyways. This grates my nerves and keep in mind I am a patient person, so I don’t like being That Guy. But there comes a point where I can’t morally or logically stand by when you’re an asshole. So a friend of mine from class was talking racism and she goes on what is essentially a #NotAllWhitePeople rant, claiming we should leave racism in the past and focus on the now, blah, blah. So I was like no, we have to examine the past because it continues to influence the present- to break this down into a smaller event this would be like a person in an abusive relationship focusing on processing their trauma and moving on from it- you gotta acknowledge the past to move forward.

WELL, she was not having this so I called her racist, because she continued on pulling the ‘colorblind’ argument, which is a fucking cop out so I said it. She was all ‘that’s my OPINION’ so I was like well then your opinion is racist, like shit son don’t hit me with that crap. In this exchange we’ve traded a good four sentences or so back and forth and the student that was originally talking racism (and the only brown person in this discussion) offered a single sentence of support for my argument. But she was silent for most of it. Well once More Annoying Tomi Lauren stomped off we find out she whined and cried about the brown woman eating her ass when it was my lily white ass that went all in. I was pissed.

Anyways. So we’ve established that she’s an asshole, and also weird as fuck. Lets run a highlight reel of this person: obsessed with tiny houses, general asshole, also emotionally manipulative but I didn’t even get time to cover that, looks and acts like a particularly annoying 15 year old (I’m so sorry to 15 year olds, you all deserve better than being lumped in with this), has an obsession with bullying but defends her racism (???), has the aesthetic of someone who shops at Claires and the lost and found exclusively, every single character she writes is a self insert (and I hadn’t covered that either- fuck I have tales ok), constantly monopolizes class time by yapping about shit no one cares about, thinks the Big Bang Theory is a good show, can’t take criticism for shit, and has more confidence than Joss Whedon when he wrote Age of Ultron.

There is more people- I didn’t actually touch on the emotional manipulation, which often links in with the bullying obsession, or any of the self inserts let alone her actual attempts at story. I didn’t even touch on all her racist Facebook posts or that time she whined about the gender neutral Canadian anthem (changed recently), which resulted in my sourcing that the fucking anthem was gender neutral when it was written, then was changed, and is now being changed back so at least know the fucking history of the anthem before whining and crying about it being changed. This is just what I remembered off the top of my head.

A friend and I from class once went out with a bud of his and we were talking about her and halfway through I realized she sounds fake. It sounds like writers all sat down in a room and were like ‘what pile of weird and asshole traits can we give a person?’ and then we created her. But we did not, we would not intentionally let ourselves suffer that way. And, AND, this is key- you’ve all read my writing here. You know I can create whole worlds with various levels of efficacy- I’ve written almost 200 stories that I’ve put on my AO3- but I simply am not creative enough to invent this person. I never would have combined ‘racist, self insert writing, tiny house obsessed person who thinks the Human Centipede is a movie that makes you think’. I wish that last part was a fucking joke but that’s deadass a quote. It is not a movie that makes you think. Wolf of Wall Street is a movie that makes you think assuming you figure out its a satire intentionally making fun of every white male power fantasy ever, not the fucking human centipede.

Conclusion: If you are so generally off the rails that a writer who prefers writing fantasy and science fiction is not creative enough to have invented you you are Some Shit ok. Like Hannibal Lecter is a character someone invented and that guy probably couldn’t have come up with my seasonal nemesis ok. There’s just too much to unpack there and she’s too willing to throw it all at us like a monkey flinging turds. I can’t believe this is a real human being. I wish I didn’t know she was, but if I have to suffer so do all of you.

- **abuse tw, neglect tw**  harley was born in georgia in a trailer park to two parents who didn’t care about their child’s existence. their father was both physically and mentally abusive to his wife and child while their mother was terribly neglectful and an enabler. harley started working at a convenience store at twelve years old to bring in some extra money for their family. along with working, they handled getting the highest grade in their class and hiding bruises and black eyes from teachers. as they grew a bit older, they took up another job working as a mechanic. it also provided cover for the random bruises and marks appearing on their body as they could just blame it on a work hazard. they were always insecure of where they were from and tried their best to hide it from anyone who would ask. in response to their destructive home life, they were selectively mute, deciding it better for themselves if they weren’t to talk. so instead of expressing their emotions using their voice, they used the ink from pens and graphite from pencils against the thin lined paper of their calculus notebook. words seemed to flow easier when they physically  weren’t saying it. harley felt like they were drowning, with only schoolwork left to save them.

Tagging @mags-duranb, who asked (thank you for the interest btw, it was super sweet. Also, I love your art <3333) :)  I was gonna make a post anyway, but I wanted it to be a timeline photoset hence why I’m not replying directly.

I thought it was about time I gave you guys a nice long update on the purrito, since we have now officially reached 2 months of age as of yesterday!

To answer the requester’s question, SHE is doing just fine xD  That’s right, when we visited the vet about a week ago for the second round of shots, we got visible proof (or rather lack thereof) that we have a little girl in our hands.  This was only a couple of days before I made an insta post announcing the official name, because of course it was. Way to embarass me, kiddo.

So I’d like to introduce you all to Buffy, because hello, so dang pretty, look at that last pic that was taken only yesterday, and she’s also pretty fearless and resourceful, though not necessarily highly intelligent xD  Not a vampire slayer, but an ankle slayer for sure.  I generally post updates on her every couple of days on instagram.

Oh, and, just as a final note on the whole name thing, yes, we still call her purrito from time to time, as well as a thousand other nicknames ;) 

So! On to the update (and an extra... suprise?¿¿??) below the cut:

Buffy’s issues with food have gotten a lot better.  She used to be vicious about meals, meowing and pleading hours before her feeding time.  At first we thought we were perhaps feeding her too little, so we followed the general advice everyone gives re: how much to feed kittens, which is to say we just let her eat her fill.  She did not stop until her belly was so distended I had to physically drag her bowl away.  So we decided to slowly increase her intake whenever we saw she started to get skinny.  Which, given her Longcat status, was so. damn. OFTEN.  Seriously, if she looks malnourished in some pics, I assure you she’s not.  She just grows and grows like a damn weed.

Lately, however, since her weight has reached a healthy plateau, she’s gotten much better about food.  No screaming, no scratching, and she doesn’t really complain before feeding time anymore.  She still follows us whenever we dare visit the kitchen, but hey, it could be worse xD

Something I’ve never mentioned here is that when we first found her, her whiskers were very short and stubby, which we originally attributed to her being very young.  But eventually, we noticed that not only were her brow whiskers much longer, there was a lone whisker next to the stubby ones that was regular-sized, and the shorter ones looked almost... manually cut, if that wakes sense.  A bit of research led us to find out that sometimes, littermates may do this to a runt (bite them off) when they’re competing for mom’s milk, which... not only makes my heart ache for our little buddy, it starts to put her whole attitude toward food into perspective.

Long story short, we were prepared for the possibility that she may forever have issues with food, but she’s been improving constantly.

Other than the food issue, Buffy has grown into a happy, healthy kitty :) She’s up to date on her shots, and we took her to the vet only last week where we got nothing but good news.  

She’s very attached to us, especially me since I work from home and basically see her all day, and though she doesn’t complain and yowl when she’s left alone, she is super cuddly when we return home.  

Given her age, she’s incredibly playful to the point that we get more exhausted playing with her than she does xD She likes climbing all over the place and exploring everything within reach, always looking for new ‘lairs’ and stuffing her butt into every nook and cranny, she loves to chew on cables (which has led us to do some highly creative concealing) and often engages in what we call ‘Crab Dancing’ when she gets excited/territorial during playtime:

We were glad to see she takes to new (human) acquaintances very well, and she hasn’t (yet) started wreaking havoc in our apartment.  She, has, however,  gotten very bitey during playtime, and it’s ALWAYS playtime, so we’re trying to encourage her to bite on toys instead of our fingers: it’s a sloooooooooow process.  There’s also the possibility that she’s teething a bit early so she’s just constantly looking for relief.  We’ve bought her a few special chew toys that should arrive shortly, and hopefully they’ll help.  Even if it’s still early for her, hey, new toys, amirite? xD

Still, she never lashes out to us in anger/anxiety, not even when we gave her a bath where she was visibly distressed (yes, I know it’s not necessary for cats, but we’d never cleaned her with anything but pet wipes since we rescued her; she needed at least one) and yet she never tried to scratch or bite us.  TL;DR she’s mischievous, but not aggressive outside of playtime.

She’s super long for her age and will most likely be a pretty long kitty when she reaches maturity.  Seriously, y’all, Longcat 2.0:

I’m still bummed my theory that she was part Van doesn’t seem to be true (in my defense, she has something very similar to the characteristic Van spot on her nape!), but hey, less shedding xD She also has a permanent bald spot on her spine now (as we knew she would), where the vet had given her that shot that saved her life back when she got sick.

She’s a sweet little doofus, who thinks she’s really a parrot and likes to perch on our shoulder, and meows the whole time I’m in the kitchen because how dare someone in this household eat when she’s not eating too, and when I ignore her grey-green supplicating eyes she just curls up over my foot while I wash the dishes, and she constantly gets tangled up in our legs and waits for us behind closed doors, and she’s a friggin’ Duracell battery who does.not.tire, and she  tosses half the litter out when she digs, and she loves to take naps with us cuddled right over our chests so our heartbeat can lull her to sleep, and we love her.

The above was the post I had prepared and was going to post yesterday on Buffy’s 2 month ‘birthday,’ so I’ve left it intact.  However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add this latest development:

For a while now, we’ve been discussing how to deal with Buffy’s inexhaustible energy levels, because we do have other responsibilities, all of whom also require a good night’s sleep, which as you may imagine, has been a bit rare lately.  There’s this saying that the only one who can keep up with a kitten is another kitten, but we were very reluctant to adopt another one, since we’re currently dealing with an imminent move and we weren’t sure if we could even afford it.

Well...................

I found and rescued Buffy.  My partner found and rescued this little guy yesterday:

I’m going to be even more reluctant to make any grand claims than I was when we found Buffy, because this little dude (this one is a dude, indeed) is in pretty bad shape.  Though she’d been abandoned, Buffy was very clean and hale when we found her, even if she was a bit small and underfed.  

This one though... poor little soot sprite is all skin and bones, he was flea-ridden until we took him to the vet, he’s filthy, he’s terrified and has a bum leg from some sort of accident.  We didn’t even have a plan yesterday when my partner found him, but we figured since we had a lot of leftover milk powder and kitten pate from Buffy, we might as well feed up this little orphan. 

It took some coaxing with a syringe, but he got a bit of milk down which got his appetite going and we were able to feed him some pate.  He actually ate a fair bit, which is encouraging.  We know for a fact he was abandoned by his mom, btw, she’s still roaming around the neighborhood but refusing to tend to him since he’s already older than 4 weeks (maybe 1,5 month old max).  Just two weeks younger than Buffy.  After he got some food down, we took him to our vet, who was reserved but cautiously optimistic even for the leg.  He made us no promises, of course, and he advised we prepare ourselves for the possibility that he might not make it.

We’ve now had him for just under a day and he’s been improving.  He was very scared at first, hissy when I went near him, and the first time I fed him at home, the new environment had stressed him out to the point that I had to use a syringe again to get him to eat.  And yeah, we’ve had to keep him isolated ofc to protect Buffy (and him, omg, she’s literally twice his size in weight, no exaggeration, and most likely a social dunce with other kittes, she would destroy him).  I’ll be able to give him a bath tomorrow afternoon after the 48hr clock on the flea medicine runs out, which is yet another reason we had to isolate him.  Today, he’s been getting less and less reserved around me and he hasn’t needed to be force fed once, he’s been downing pate like no-one’s business.  I weighed him earlier and found he’d gained about 40-50 grams, a number I offer cautiously as both weighings at the vet and today aren’t entirely accurate, because squirmy kitty.  Still, he’s gained weight, even if only a little.   

Buffy can tell something’s up, since we basically had to move her litterbox and feeding area and haven’t let her in that room since.  It’s been... an adjustment xD But she bounces back admirably fast, she didn’t even bat an eyelash at the change; she’s just curious to discover what we’re hiding from her, obviously.  She’s probably heard him meowing, too.

We honestly have no clue what we’ll do with him.  Taking it one day at a time.  He might not make it at all, and even if he does, he may never get along with Buffy, in which case we’ll have to give him away for both their sakes.  I’m not gonna lie, money is a concern.  Research tells me at their age and beyond the cost isn’t prohibiting, not even double that of a single cat.  So if he doesn’t require any costly meds, we can afford him, especially since Buffy can now eat dry food (and so will he in a couple of weeks).  This, again, is all hinging on a) him not having any serious, contagious illnesses, and b) him and Buffy getting along.  In the long run, we know it would be way better for Buffy to have a companion to play and cuddle with, but we have to be realistic and prepare for the worst for now.

Soot sprite is a little cutie, he has the softest, most plaintive meow and there’s even hope for his little leg down the road (though honestly, that’s the last thing that concerns us; even in his current state, he’s perfectly mobile).  His eyes, too, should get better with time if he grows healthier. 

SO WE’LL SEE.  RN I am beyond stressed and reserved, but also kinda hopeful. *sigh*

I’m back from the other side

It’s 2017, and boy howdy did I miss this blog. I ended up taking a VERY long break from RT for personal reasons, most of them tying into conflicting feelings, but I’m feeling mostly better now and really want to get back to a regular-ish reblogging schedule. I wish my return came with more fics and videos, but while I have indeed been editing (for Day 5 woo) and writing (@xanzs is the expert on that!) I’m not entirely sure if I’ve written/am writing anything worth posting considering the ships.

I explain down below, spoilers for my own fanfics just in case.

If anyone remembers lil ol’ me at all, I wrote the joelay Silent Hill au Game Over two-three years ago now, and my last post ten months ago was actually about those fics, as I am very proud of them uwu but the thing is, between then and some point in 2014, my views on joelay changed, as my views on Joel himself changed. I still love the ship, and I still love Joel even though it’s... difficult I wanna say, can’t explain why, nothing serious, but because of that shift I find it difficult to write for him anymore. As such, if I were to write for him, it would have to take place in my SH au (or GOverse) where he is incredibly OOC and has Orpheus and Faris as his other selves/brothers/split personalities even for one fic; these worlds also usually involve Raphael (or Ral as we lovingly call him), the monster Orpheus created, as Ray’s twin or lookalike. Everything that I’ve been writing the past year takes place in that au and while it does branch out to stories involving everything but SH, I think it would be weird to post them because Orpheus tends to be in the main view and he might be weird to read with Ray considering his origins and for those who don’t know them.

While xanzs has been very supportive of me and my writing and has offered me more than enough to work with in terms of no longer being able to write about normal aus not featuring my little monsters, I feel like I’d be altering the stories a bit too much if I were to rewrite them so they fit the more normal standards of joelay fics, where Orpheus would be normal Joel and all mentions of the others would be omitted or rewritten, because even then Joel would be incredibly OOC. I have one finished fic with Ray and Orpheus (known as Ollie), and some Ryan in there too, in an a/b/o college au, and it capped off at a surprising almost 52k with a sequel in the works as well, but with the constant mentions of ‘the Heyman triplets’ and even a cameo by GOverse Joel, it wouldn’t be the same if the parts were switched and suddenly Joel was a single child because part of Ollie’s character is based on his view of his siblings.

This month I intend to start posting all my completed RT fics to AO3 in the order I posted them on here, and while that does include Game Over (although the final three sequels I’m still deciding on), I am unsure if any of these new fics would ever be posted to here or there because of their content. If you’ve read my fics and would be interested in joining xanzs and I in our adventures in jo3layal (or three Joels/Ray/Ral), please let me know, as it’s one thing for close friends to be interested in these tales, but it’s a whole new world for others to be interested as well.

Aside from these new works, I do have old fics that I wrote way back in 2012 or so, before Game Over was even conceived. These fics included a king au (which I loved so much I built the kingdom in minecraft), an X-Ray and Vav au where I included almost everyone from 636 (Monty was involved, and if I finish this fic and it’s WIP sequel I would like to keep him in, out of respect, in contrast to a LOT of new people not being there), a Gauntlet au that I really wish I had finished, a fic based entirely on my obsession of an episode from The Haunting Hour because I can’t get over it, and some others sprinkled here and there amoung a whole list of ideas. Most of them were joelay, which is why I never finished them past 2014, and it feels wrong to again rewrite them to now add in my monsters, so I’m horribly on the fence about letting them gather dust or bringing my fics to life like I should’ve done years ago. I haven’t been around for a long time, but the last time I was here, joeay was pretty much dead, so if there’s any lights still flickering for this ship please let me know if any of these ideas pique your interest at all <3

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Honestly, my activity will vary quite a lot over the next month. I have exams soon, and I initially planned to wait with applying until I was over them, but I just couldn’t help myself (curse of being a roleplay junkie), and I need something to reward myself during my breaks between studying, so I am certain that I can uphold an activity of 4/10 until the 15th of June when I’m officially done with the semester. HOW DID YOU FIND THE ROLEPLAY?: I was cruising through the lsrpg tag, just looking for a roleplay to join after my exams (lmao don’t judge me), but then I fell in love with this roleplay and particularly this character and all the possibilities and thought about how sad I would be to return in June just to see her taken by someone else, so here I am.

ROLEPLAY EXPERIENCE: Oh boy, I think I started roleplaying back in 2008? It was a Harry Potter roleplay in my native tongue, I was in that roleplay for probably 2 or 3 years? I only had one character and after several years, I had exhausted my muse, and I hesitantly left to try new things. I was in a couple of forum roleplays, I can’t even specifically remember what they were about, but they were all in my first language. However, back in 2011 or 2012, I discovered Tumblr roleplaying and I was immediately intrigued, wanting to try my hand at roleplaying in English. I joined a Percy Jackson roleplay where I played Clarisse La Rue, I was also there for a year before the roleplay, unfortunately, closed down. I had become good friends with the admin of that roleplay, so I followed her to the next roleplay, another HP roleplay, where I played an original character named Elizabeth, a pure-blooded Slytherin in love with a half-blood Gryffindor. I was also with that roleplay for 18 months or so, and then my muse started to die along with the roleplay, and that was it. I quickly found a new roleplay (told you guys I was a roleplay junkie), it was a Greek mythology roleplay where I consistently played Hera and Aphrodite through two revamps, I also dabbled with Rhodes and Ariadne. In total, I was with that roleplay with the same group of people for 2 years, I was even an admin for a year. After it closed down, I decided to try and get into asoiaf/got roleplaying, where, after experimenting with several characters, I ended up picking up a character that I didn’t even like very much at first, but through my own go at her portrayal - and extensive researching - I fell in love with. Having been an admin myself, I realise it can be quite daunting accepting someone whose activity won’t be impressing at first, but I promise you that I will have more time to invest in the wonderful Pari in a short month, but the opportunity to be a part of the roleplay in its opening stages, and to not let Pari slip between my fingers was just too irresistible. I think my commitment to previous roleplays prove that I am dedicated, I just need to get past my exams, and then I can give 110%. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CHARACTER?: There are several reasons why I fell for Pari in particular, the first is my fascination with banshees. I was quite surprised to find that as a species here, so I was immediately intrigued, and went on to search for which banshees were available, and I found Pari’s bio.

However, I quickly fell in love with the character as well. I really like her background, the story of how her family became cursed, how she is personally dealing with it, her Indian heritage and the prospect of character development. Her connections are all very interesting as well, considering what might develop with friendships and crushes, especially when you think about how she insecure she feels about her old form, and how much she worries people would stop loving and liking her, should they ever see her in such a state. I see a lot of potential for character development, and God knows I’m a sucker for that. Basically, I have a weak spot characters who are suffering from internal strife, stuck between knowing what is right and wrong, yet feeling like they have no choice but to do wrong. I love how she has chosen to become a nurse to try and balance out the darkness and lightness inside her, and no matter how hard she has worked, she is still drawn to darkness and death while looking like an innocent flower.

PARA SAMPLE: Death was the only constant companion Pari knew of. It followed her everywhere she went, she followed it too, perhaps it was not Death seeking out her instead she was the hunter of Death, always on the hunt to fill herself with the dark essence which brought so many the pain of losing loved ones. Death was her best friend, Death was her worst enemy. These uninvited dark thoughts entered her mind, refusing to leave her be as she stared down at her hands. A few wrinkles had appeared, nothing noticeable to anyone else, but she could see it as clear as day. It was the first warning sign that she had hidden from Death for too long. She was laying in her bathtub, relaxing in the warm water after a long work shift at the hospital. She closed her eyes to try and ignore it, but the heart-wrenching feeling in her gut was frustratingly insistent on being felt, it would not be ignored. The guilt tore through her veins again, no matter how many people she had helped save today, no matter the hours she spent comforting and healing others, the guilt was still there. It was no counterweight to the destruction she was forced to revel in, simply to keep her beauty intact and keep the horrid, ugly hag at bay. She looked down at her body, it was covered by bubbles from the soap, yet she could easily imagine her smooth, young skin wrinkled and stained with marks. The world was cruel to those it deemed ugly and unworthy.

As night slowly started falling, Pari found herself mindlessly driving out of Boston. She was going nowhere, in particular, but she was drawn by an invisible magnet, a pull strong enough to allow her to simply shut off her brain, only focusing on the road straight ahead without thinking of a destination. She often took drives when the Banshee inside her started acting up, it was a part of her that she desperately wished to ignore, but no matter how hard she tried, the knowledge of what would happen to her often forced her to act on the urges. Death was a relief, Death was a curse. After driving for about 30 minutes, she found herself driving into Moon Island, a place she had briefly been told about by a chatty patient. She found herself stopping her car by a cemetery. She threw her dark hair over her shoulder as she stepped out of the car, finally taking in her surroundings. The last light in the sky was dying, darkness had covered the island like a thick blanket. It felt eerie standing by her car, so close to a place where bodies laid in the ground after Death had taken their souls away. Pari could not string together an explanation for why she had stopped here, why she had even found herself on Moon Island. As she opened her car door to get away from the depressing place, her hand curled around the handle and she lost control. A scream tore its way out of her throat and into the chilling night air, it forced her head to snap back. It was terribly loud, the sound powerful enough to vibrate the windows of her car. When the scream died out, she found herself struggling to take in deep enough breaths. There was a chill in the air, the cold wrapped around her bones, encapsulating them in frost. She quickly got into her car, afraid anyone might try hunting down the source of the scream.

Pari drove further into town, her curiosity and the guilt of knowing someone would lose their life soon, both were enough to urge her forward. She continued to explore Moon Island, she let the hours pass with driving around before exploring the heart of the town as she waited. She was unsure of what exactly she was waiting for, something strange and unexplored within her forced her to stay. If someone was bound to die, perhaps she could be in the right place at the right time, either to her satisfy the supernatural hunger for death, or to help save a life. As she sat on a bench, a coffee in hand from the only shop she had found still open, she felt the unusual chill in the air prickling at her skin again. She bound her coat tighter around her waist, the moment her hand was about to let go of the leather strap, a rush of energy hit her like a tidal wave. She gasped gently and dropped the to-go cup in her other hand, coffee spilt across the ground as she was pulled to her feet. She absorbed the energy surrounding her, it was almost too overwhelming, it felt special, infinitely more satisfying than anything else she had experienced. Death was her best friend. As Pari was defeated by her Banshee side now controlling her, she blindly followed the source of the energy, so pure and powerful and so tainted by the hands of Death. She felt no shame at that particular moment, she simply felt high off the energy and its effects on her, but the shame would come for her again, the woman knew it all too well, but for now, all she could do was revel in darkness, and the whispers of the dead.

EXTRA

PERSONALITY: + kind, high-minded, intelligent

The first trait and last trait speak for themselves, I think, and although quite simple, I think these two classically good traits are really defining for Pari’s character. I also imagine her to be quite aware of morals and having her own set of morals, and although she cannot always act on it, she has a clear view of what is right and what is wrong. So she does have incredible strong morals, she just lacks the ability to always act on them, a large part of this flaw is the Banshee curse.

Pari can be quite troubled which can result in her seeming sullen, not very often but she is affected by her close relationship with death and darkness, and the urge she has to come people alive and wishing to see them thrive instead of faltering. These two contrasting sides often cause internal strife, which leaves her restless at night. She is also known to be quite stubborn, although it can be seen as a positive trait, it’s what has driven her to achieve her goals, it can also be dangerous when surrounded by supernatural beings, and alliances ready to destroy each other. She is, of course, very often guilt-ridden after absorbing the energy left from the dead - and even screaming despite having no control of it. She is especially guilt-ridden because she is aware that she does not need death to survive, but she is also acutely aware that no one would ever love her if she is stuck in her old form.

HEADCANONS: 1. When Pari was a little girl, her father would sing her a specific lullaby every night. Whenever she was upset even in her teenage years, he would sing it to calm her down whenever another scream was torn from her throat, condemning someone to die. When she left India, he surprised her with a special recording of the song, she sometimes still listens to her father’s voice singing it whenever she’s stressed or sad. It is safely tucked away in a box below her bed.

2. During her years studying at university, one of the first nights in her new home, she woke up her entire dorm by letting out one of the loudest screams to date. She successfully managed to convince all of them that she simply suffered from bad nightmares, but soon after she found a small house to live, with help from her parents, so she could be left alone and not hear the whispers of how the strange foreign girl wailed at the oddest times.

3. Pari is usually the patients’ favourite nurse, she sits with them even after her shift has ended if they are very sick, or even if they are dying, she holds their hands and tells them stories, even sometimes singing. She always wears a bright smile, never allowing them to see her sad or upset. Even though Pari is very kind by nature, this also satisfies a more selfish need. She does not allow anyone to come too close, she has plenty of friends sure, but there is always a barrier between herself and the others, so this closeness with the patients, the feeling of actually cheering others up, it quickly grew addicting for the woman who fed on death.
