Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Mecha Combat #995 - December 3347 Cruiserweight (65 ton Max)
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184)
Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #995
Brought to you by ANN
Highlighting the December 3347 Cruiserweight (65 ton Max)
The Gaming authorities decided to have another Cruiserweight event. But this time the weight limit was lowered from 80 to 65 tons.
I was unsure whether that was an improvement for my forces. Yes we have an formation for such events, but the lions share of the Mechs are mediums, and there is a sprinkling of light Mechs there as well.
But after getting the formation ready we marched toward the arena. Our tickets were for K4 and when we arrived there was not many formations around. As most of those formations still was unlimited, getting a spot on the slopes was just a question of taking it, but the top could wait for later.
Back at the compound my battle against the paperwork monster continued. By metocilous planning and enlistment of capable subordinates, it was soon contained, and eventually driven back and greatly diminished. Wish all my battles could be that successful.
Like the one who evolved when my forces were called to take the top as the scramble neared. My formation had held on to the spot on the slopes, so it was just one step to the top. Trouble was, the top was held by no lesser personage than David McCallum of the Heroes.
On the face of it, he should have been a fairly easy match for us. My licence was after all almost 40 higher than his, and my formation had four additional Mechs. But going a bit deeper, I knew we were in deep trouble.
First of all, he is one of the acknowlegded masters of the 70 ton +/- tonnage events. Secondly, despite my formations numerical superiority, his formation outmassed us by more than 200 tons. One could always hope he had overweight Mechs in the formation, but the odds of that were close to non-existant.
My first probes were rudely crushed, and even the full complement of Large/Regular/Super hatorades I had brough along seemed woefully inadvequate.
Not that he was unbeatable. My forces claimed the top at the 17th try. He naturally blew us off the top scant moments later. That set the pace for the struggle. I would launch 15-20 attacks and hold the top for maybe as much as 10 seconds before he retook it. It became clear to me that the only way my forces could prevail, was for the event to end just after we had taken the top. Unfortunately, we ran out of hatorades and energy while the event still was in full swing, and while we claimed the top once more, there was no doubt who had the best formation and deserved the win.
The waiting period between the last few attacks was spent on getting footage of the other tops, and we noted that those who stood highest on the tops this time was:
Div 1 375+ (17 Commanders): Ben Rail, Death`s Collector`s (5m,41s)
2: Sherriff Leary Wretham
3: Fabio Favaro
4: Terry Cole
5: Daniel Scott
6: Bernard Johnson
7: Jeff Page
8: Joe Kump
9: Sal Vezzosi Jr
10: Gary Muenzel
Div 2 -374 (16 Commanders): Don Davis, Death`s Collector`s (1h,38m)
Div 3 -243 (7 Commanders): Chris Zimmer, Northwind Dragons (10h,51m)
Div 4 -193 (14 Commanders): David McCallum, Heroes (3m,24s)
Div 5 -154 (25 Commanders): Yusuke Paul Okabayashi, M&L Blood Wolves (5h,19m)
Div 6 -114 (15 Commanders): Samael Wormwood (10h,25m)
Div 7 -86 (29 Commanders): ANNeditor, HF 110th C.C. 1st A.R. (21m,47s)
Div 8 -64 (20 Commanders): Cora Soco Hiller, today and tomorrow (5m,49s)
Div 9 -42 (12 Commanders): Jeffery Dinkel, *R.V.* (3h,41m)
Div 10 -24 (12 Commanders): hitMan, alternatif (15h,19m)
Div 11 -14 (11 Commanders): Andrew Williams (16h,3m)
Total Contestants: 178
Total medals claimed: 142 (of 165 possible)
This event saw a clear decline in the number of fighting formations on the tops. Twenty-four fewer Commanders showed up this time. Was it the format, the endtime or something else?
As the crowd was smaller, and we still have these imbalances between the tops, it should come as no surprise that a total of twenty-three Bronzes from five tops ended unclaimed and were returned for resmelting.
The last half-hour saw four Golds changing hands at least once, while six Golds were held for more than two hours. Was this a case of strong holders, or a general lack of action? To figure that out, we take a look at the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 2 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 3 ....4 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 4 ....3 of 4.........9 of 9
Div 5 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 7 ....3 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 8 ....3 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 9 ....3 of 4.........6 of 7
Div 10 ..4 of 4.........7 of 7
Div 11 ..4 of 4.........5 of 6
We had four tops without a single successful medal attack. K11 had a latecomer while K8 and K4 had just the Gold attacks. The remaining tops had a bit more action, but none of them saw the majority of the medals change hands.
This time it was the Death`s Collector`s that showed strenght. They were the only clan to take a double triumph, and they did it by claiming the two highest tops. The sole repeat winner was Chris Zimmer of the Northwind Dragons, and we also saw two unaligned Commanders claim a top: Andrew Williams on K11 and Samael Wormwood on K6.
Samael Wormwood have been among us for a long time. His fiirst entry into the KotM events was way back in the March `70 Dirty Thirty. He got his first KotM Gold in the May `82 Triple rainbow. For most of the last century he served in the RND, and claimed 8 Clan Golds. For the last four decades he have served alongside the Bunnies, but at the moment he is between clans.
Upcoming event: Triple Rainbow
As in all Rainbows, a Commander is allowed to use all models of Mechs in their hangar.
But only a certain number of each model is allowed to fight in the arena. Here that number is three.
Event ends June 6 between 2300 and 2330 New York Time

Sten Hugo Hiller - KOTM - Mountain of Fire
Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat
Brought to you by ANN, A News channell for Mecha Combat
Highlighting the June 3320 Mountain of Fire
Another climb on K3, for fire specialists this time. Easier than the chrono, only seven opponents with 20+ levels on me, and of the 27 only 13 had 500+ tons on me. Still, I always try for gold. Alarm went off a few minutes to scramble. My position was out on the Plains. Taking some time to reorient myself I aimed for the lowest foothill and claimed it. My next target was Mark Spitznet. It took 5 tries to convince him to swap places with me. Two steps to the top, provided the first was either Christine Mainer or Theo Peeples. Christine`s recent windfall in the raffle seemed to have been used to acquire top gear for her mechs, and as she was on top foothill, my position wouldn’t be much better if Johnson at top was unbeatable. That left Theo. Sixteen levels below me and only 250 tons heavier, how hard could he be? Actually I didn’t find out. His pure Antithesis frontline was all I saw as I poured down hatorade after large hatorade after superhatorade. Come on, 78 attacks and the best I do is kill four mechs of the frontline? Perhaps it is time to retire and find a nice spot to while away my remaining days? Those who were at the tops and resisted Intrusion from those on the lower slopes this time were:
Div 1 (28 Players): Fabio Favaro, Phoenix Fusions Wrath (2m,46s) Div 2 (15 Players): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny (57m,18s) Div 3 (28 Players): Bernhard Johnson, Death`s Decievers (15h,41m) Div 4 (39 Players): Michael beagle, Death`s Collectors (13h,15m) Div 5 (31 Players): Shandar Shadowmist, Death Dealers (3h,34m) Div 6 (38 Players): Grego, Gamma Burst (3h,2m) Div 7 (18 Players): Edmond Dantes, Brotherhood Dragons L. (11h,28m) Div 8 (37 Players): Joshua Bourne, Brotherhood Dragons Mu (10h,2m) Div 9 (33 Players): Tygra_, Death`s Hecklers (2h,35m) Div 10 (25 Players): Tom Kords, Wrecking Crew Too (57m,21s) Div 11 (18 Players): Tanfoglio, Karma (2h,15m) Div 12 (2 Players): ErnstSBlofeld, Politically Incorrect (10h,23m)
Total Players: 312, Total medals: 167 (of 180 possible)
The scramble lasted almost the whole hour. During the last hour three Golds changed hands, while five where held for more than ten hours.
Again a lack of players in div 12, but hey, we had two there this time, a doubling from the chrono.
No single clan managed more than one Gold, AFF grabbed four and were best family this time. No unaligned gold winners this time. Fabio Favaro got his second Gold in a row.
I had to get back to Star League so I could handle command back to Paulzilla, but there was almost two days to the upcoming scramble. Surely enough time to find an interviewee? Deciding to try my luck among the newer winners I went to the Wrecking Crew Too camp. A few questions sent me to the hangar. ThereTom Kords (#957066) was busy fine-tuning his mechs, but at my pleading he graciously allowed me to ask a few questions while he had a short break.
Sten Hugo Hiller Well done and congrats on your gold. Always nice to meet new and upcoming warriors. You joined up just last Porktober, joined Wrecking Crew Too for a solid silver in the Squad Wars, and this was your first Gold unless I am mistaken?
Tom Kords Nope 1st. Lucky I’m a nite owl, I wanted to make my move after I saw the other players were asleep and there was no activity in my div but me for 2 hours. So I went for it. My first attempt failed then after changing a few things around I went for it again, and the rest is history. My 1st gold in Kotm I will also say it was the longest ending window I have seen yet, so I had my fingers crossed. There were two players that could have taken it away if they had been on.
Sten Hugo Hiller Sometimes it lasts for almost the whole hour, other times it ends after a minute or so, that is why it is called random ending time. As for stronger players, sometimes they don’t have the time. You have fought some of the KOTMs before, I count ten medals, half of them silver before this event. I notice only one medal in unlimited. Are they not to your liking?
Tom Kords Just harder, I still have lots of gear and stuff I need to find, and at lower levels it is harder when you facing veteran players with big mecha, but I will get there in time. I like KOTMs like the current because of the ton limit keeps players from bringing really strong mecha.
Sten Hugo Hiller Who doesn’t need moar stuff? Having a clan to back you up and let you get prizes in the wars is a good first step though. Your first KOTM was a chrono, and you got a solid silver in it. How do you like the chrono format?
Tom Kords Its ok, I’m fond of the spec events a lot because that’s my play style, I’m well you could say a specialist. I tend to focus say a lot on one certain thing then some cover their everything.
Sten Hugo Hiller Yes I noticed. What I couldn’t see was any rainbow Medals. How do you like those formats?
Tom Kords Ok once I have the mecha for it I may try some, got certain mecha I want for it when I have them I’ll try it.
Sten Hugo Hiller This was your first weapon type format. How do you look upon them?
Tom Kords I like them. Player like me, I see things others sometimes miss and I keep a close eye on my battles so I can spot any weakness my rival may have and the exploit it. Many battles I lost the first attempt but after watching the battle I changed my lineup and I won.
Sten Hugo Hiller Just takes time and practice, some haven’t time, and never develop the practice. The third general type of limited is the weight limitations. What is your preference there, mechtype or max tonnage, say max 20 ton or Shocklite only?
Tom Kords Max 20ton. On that I would prefer though I do not have them now. I’m not found when all players must use same mecha, to me it makes it a bit dull. True a test of skill, but just dull. Varity is the spice of life they say
Sten Hugo Hiller Same platform, different setup. Have you been noticing the lack of resources, especially crystal and ferrite that have been reported lately?
Tom Kords Yes. With the full length circuits for one makes it harder for a newer player but better for a veteran. And the crystal for rb now only helps higher levels due to the tons that must be beaten to get it.
Sten Hugo Hiller Also, there have been reductions in the number of Medals. What are your feelings about that?
Tom Kords Medals Im 50/50. Resources I’m not happy at all about. It only hurts newer players, vets are pretty much setup, so Im worried it may discourage new players from keeping on playing. I mean we all know that mmo games are money pits, but if it becomes a must to spend, Im worried many will leave the game.
Sten Hugo Hiller As one of the latest Gold winners, other fresh pilots might wonder what setup it took to get a Gold. Do you have any favorite mechs, weapons or equipment’s you would recommend?
Tom Kords Mostly soon as can niode gear. Helps a ton, and faster attack speed weapons make a huge difference. I try and niode up my mecha as soon as I can. It’s not a must, but defiantly helps. Starting out I would recommend getting some dual gatlings, they help a lot at lower levels till you get better cannons
Sten Hugo Hiller Sure did this time. If you could make your own KOTM, what would it be?
Tom Kords That’s a toughie, so many things to think about. Maybe a no gear kotm, all naked mecha. Weapons but no equipment, I think that would make for a very interesting kotm. Sudden death kinda thing, just raw mecha armed and dueling it out.
Sten Hugo Hiller I think that was the original format. Equipment was added later. From Your mouth to the Developers ears. Thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to share your thoughts with our readers. Do you have any final words?
Tom Kords Yes I do. I would like to thank all the players whom have been so helpful with tips and advice. And to newer players, just have fun, that’s the main thing
Sten Hugo Hiller Continue to have fun as well.
Leaving him to tinker with his mechs, I got back to the compound for the change of command ceremony.
Upcoming event: Smaller Gateways Check your division about what maximum tonnage is allowed. Don’t bring more as the craftsmen will stop random mechs and leave holes in your formation if you try
Event ends March 1 between 0000 and 0100 New York Time.
