You can typically tell if Kaeya is taking a trip out of Mondstadt versus simply taking leave from work based on how restless Diluc is.
#hc; diluc#//The same is true vice versa#//Tho Kae does a better job at hiding it#//Diluc’s Grand Adventure is the very reason for this#//Bc Kae can’t help worrying Luc’s gonna disappear for another half decade (nvm the fact that he ENABLED the first one)#//And Luc’s worried that the way things are between them is bound to make Kae wanna up and leave for Sumeru or someplace#//And fretting he’ll never see him again if he does#//Hearing Kae’s taken a work trip to Sumeru of all places deffo stresses him out the most; esp considering their childhood#//Sometimes you can even glean how long the trip is/how close to Kae’s return it is based on how Luc acts#//Early on; he fumbles and keeps preparing Kae’s usual of Death afternoon RIGHT on schedule to when Kae usually rolls up#//Only on the first day will he actually knock it back (& predictably hate it) rather than give it away#//Towards the middle of longer trips; it’s like a storm cloud’s over his head. looks a little scary at first glance then comes off as v#tired once folks work up the nerve to approach him. prolly bc he’s been dark knighting more to keep his mind off things#//The closer to Kae’s scheduled arrival (yes; he would ask Jean or Lisa to tell him when); he tends to get spacey#//Damn near staring holes into the door and waiting; hoping MAYBE Kae might show up a little early#//Sometimes Kae does; bc he gets anxious abt leaving home as is & misses everyone terribly to last any longer#hc; kaeya#//Thats there now lol#//Then their usual banters and routines kick up again once he’s seated as always; as if nothing happened at all#//If Luc happens to let Kae drink his fill without complaint more than usual & Kae happens to be on better behavior for a bit after#//Neither will in any way dare to point it out#//And Barbatos forbid anyone ELSE point it out bc then they’ll BOTH be in a foul mood#//All of which Will be directed at that one person; and for a solid week at that
