Ike always felt so warm. Soren wondered how he did it. Ike was like a heater no matter the temperature outside. He easily leaned into the embrace, eyes lidded. The callouses on Ike’s palms lightly chafed against his arms but he didn’t mind.
They got to be a couple. After all of the years of turmoil, they could be two people in the moonlight. It wouldn’t be a permanent peace; Soren would never be that optimistic. But just for a night, why worry about the ending before the beginning?
Soren inhaled sharply with delight when Ike kissed him, breath stolen away. His heartbeat quickened and he let himself be consumed in it, still dazed when they parted.
As if that wasn’t enough, Ike ended with suspense. He didn’t want to let his nerves show, even if they were good nerves. Ike could tell him anything.
“Let me guess, we’re back in the mercenary business and we’ve been hired to stop an assassination plot this very night.” Soren wished that was actually as absurd as it sounded. That would’ve been downright normal compared to the last few years. “In a case such as that, the client had better paid up front for such short notice.
“But really Ike, I’ll hear whatever it is.”

Always at Your Side [Ike & Soren]
Soren let Ike hold his hand, fingers curling and fitting into Ike’s warm grip naturally. He nodded. The loss of Ike’s warm pressed against him in a slow dance was unfortunate, but they’d have more time later to be close. Yet again, he marveled at how touch oriented he was becoming. It didn’t make all that much logical sense. Soren supposed the instinctive need for comfort that had never been fulfilled had never left him, sneaking into the first relationship he had of any emotional intimacy to try and be filled.
Well, it seemed like Ike usually had a similar idea. Soren relaxed, lightly squeezing Ike’s hand as he led him out of the ballroom, counting on Ike’s height to part the crowd.
“The Goddess Tower is usually locked for security reasons, but I’ve always been curious about it. I suppose it may just be a superstition, but we may as well take the chance to see what’s been kept hidden.”
The long climb up the tower itself took awhile, but Soren didn’t mind. He still held Ike’s hand until they got to the very top. The platform at the peak of the spire looked out at the monastery grounds and mountains for a strikingly beautiful moonlight night. Soren turned to Ike, breathing deeply with a sigh.
“There… some peace.”
Soren leaned against Ike’s chest, smiling to himself. “It seems my outfit doesn’t have sleeves, whatever will I do to stay warm?” he mused.
The trip to the Goddess tower was short and private. No one else was around and Ike was eager to get there, to be able to talk to and touch Soren with no other eyes around. Rather, he wasn’t really one for public displays of affection, being a more private person. The night was still young, though. He was sure all would be okay. The need to have Soren with him and close to him was overwhelming. He wouldn’t let the mage out of his site.
Who cared about “security reasons?” If they were going to the Goddess tower, then they were going. At any rate it seemed like the best option right now. Ike nodded as he led Soren the right way. He had been there once or twice on his patrols around the academy and knew the way. They’d find a way in, more or less.
It was a long treck up, but not too much a big deal to Ike. He looked back to Soren. Should he carry him to make things faster? And seeing Soren like that…he wouldn’t mind carrying him exactly… But perhaps he should give the man some time. They made their way up to the top and it was the peaceful and quiet night that he was looking for. After all, crowds really weren’t Ike’s thing. He had only attended the ball for Soren. The moonlight was overwhelming and bore beautifully, casting over them in incandescent shadows.
In the moonlight, Ike could see him clearly. Soren was everything. He instinctively pulled him close. Was this alluring and elegant person really his boyfriend? Running his hands up and down Soren’s arms in a calming manner, he chuckled.
“I’ll keep you warm.” They had always looked out for each other, hadn’t they. But no, that wasn’t why Ike wanted to come here. It was more than that. He pulled Soren into an all consuming kiss, ardent and thick with love.
“Soren,” Ike smiled. “I wanted to tell you something.”
