Aether = The most beautiful, amazing, sleek, and functional pretty hairpin that is also a knife! So he can have that badass moment of unsheathing it from his hair and having a surprise weapon and showing off his long hair, acted all shy when you gave it to him, he doesn’t get gifts often, all the birthday letters were for you afterall, i feel like you deffo have walked in on him miming taking it out all badass for practice lol

Lumine = bless her, you handed her this gift and she just looked up at you and u swear didnt blink or look away for a full minute. Then she nearly crushed you to death squeezing you, god she’s muscular, as you made a sort of self-care kit, including her favorite scents you added to like blank soaps/face masks, and towels you initialed with “Lumi”, she deserves a break afterall (and she thinks you deserve it too, and subtly tries to get you to join like *“*oh this is so sweet, something for us to do together”)

Dainsleif = sad little man deserves happy little things, you make him a weighted blanket, in these blankets it’s usually like sand or something that is put into little like quilt squares so it evenly distributes weight, but you used that water from the fountain that soothes Khaenri’ah people’s curse instead. He literally went speechless when you gave it to him. He has not had a single night of insomnia since. He would literally do anything for you, and literally stole you off to the side after a few nights of good sleep to tell you this lmao

Pyro Allogenes:

Diluc = Another bitch who just needs a break, you steal him off one evening and tell him you need a hilichurl camp wiped out, and there’s a cryo mage so you need him, bc thats the only way this workaholic is actually gonna drop everything and actually take care of himself, you have to deceive him, and then surprise him by showing him a hot spring you found. Teyvat has a lot more things to it now that it’s in real life, and that includes natural hot springs apparantly, and you’ve already prepped the place too, with his favorite non-alcoholic drinks, some indulgent foods like chocolate and fruits, and a soft robe. Man’s went wide eyed and nearly fell in LMAO, and then, looking away all pink, said he couldn’t accept this… unless you joined him.

Amber = a pair of comfy shoes, with baron bunny decorated all over them, like you sewed patches over them to personalize it, and the insoles are GODLY good, so she can run to Sumeru at this rate and her feet will feel like she went for a light jog! Some Mondstadt citizens, and knights tbh, are honestly a little afraid of Amber now bc her feet aching was sometimes the only thing stopping her from going 100% all the time lol

Bennett = a lucky charm, yes, yes, I know, basic, but it’s different coming from you! You’ve given him a bandana to wear as a neckerchief around his throat (it’s unprotected and he’s that unlucky?!) and it fits great, you’ve made it from Liyue materials, and imbued it with geo energy, so it actually makes a small shield/barrier around his head lmao, he’s practically thanking you every week and telling you how it helped him that week 💀

Klee = a treasure hunt map you made! every little stop/treasure gives her some candy or a snack, plus the next instructions, and she insists you go with her, and drags you along lol, and you planted them within range of the Mondstadt so she’s not too far off, and the final treasure (bc u planned it so she was supposed to start at a certain time/get to the end in a few hours) she finds at late sunset, and it’s a type of challenge that u were able to make, (bc apparently being the “highest god” means u get dev access, like the teapot functions but more OP). It makes a rainbow of glowing fish appear as targets to better Klee’s bomb throwing skills, and to entertain her, she gives the most dramatic gasp ever, and is just vibrating telling you “The fishes! They’re so pretty! ‘Bedo said that you give the greatest gifts, and he was so, so, so SO right!! Thank you very much!!!” :D in her cute little voice and then proceeds to speedrun you a hug and then starts throwing bombs lmao

Xiangling = HOO BOY- she has nearly every cooking utensil known to man, thanks to her being a young famous chef, and bc her family’s restaurant makes good money bc of it, so it was hard to think of something for her, but you eventually made her a handwritten and sewn together recipe book (look up “how to make zine”, its very easy actually, theres one with sewing the paper and a smaller one with just folding). It’s full of all of your favorites from Earth and what you think could substitute here, and how it should taste. Xiangling literally took your hands and spun you bc she hates luxury stuff, and really loves and appreciates homemade gifts, it’s the first anyone’s heard of your homeworld’s food so it makes her feel special <3 (she will be constantly harassing you with a spoonful of food to try and see if it’s close)

Hu Tao = You remembered one of Shakespeare’s plays and wrote a rough screenplay for Yunjin to adapt, then took Hu Tao with you to see it! She loves poetry and singing, so she loves to see Yunjin play usually, but she hadn’t had the time lately bc of funeral spirit work, (u also brought Zhongli so she could have fun embarrassing him lol), and she literally made a whole bit/joke about getting down on one knee to marry you, which was promptly interrupted by said embarrassed adepti, people even clapped lmao

Xinyan = You made her an aweinspiring outfit to wear onstage, modeled after classic rockstars from your world, she nearly teared up at the sight of it, and then nearly took ur ear out bc she was getting so loud and excited, u try to convince her otherwise, but Xinyan refuses to wear it outside of big occasions like Lantern Rite or performances with Yunjin (looks like this, I tried very hard ok, check it: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/76631631152377154/)

Yanfei = Once again, a written book, or at least 20 rap songs for her to look through. This sounds weird, but she eventually hopes to see a future where people are just better at obeying laws and considers then she’d be out of a job. So, after seeing some of Xinyan’s performances, she decided her back up career would be a rapper. She will literally stop you every time she sees you and lowkey force you to hear her latest rap she’s made, partially inspired from the Earth ones you gave her a lot of the time! She literally talked your ear off for hours, and didnt realize that she linked arms with you at one point and made you both walk at least 3 miles around the port lol, very embarrassed but grateful for the gift, another person who really adores homemade stuff

Thoma = you sewed him a cute plushie of Taromaru, along with a little plushie tea cup set. He literally covered his mouth in shock, and turned away, were those tears?? Very carefully took his gift and nearly bent in half bowing and thanking you for the gift, and was cutely touchy all day, linking arms, guiding you by gently nudging your back in crowds, etc. You once woke him up out a day nap on accident trying to find him, and he walked out half-asleep clutching the plushie Taromaru and nearly jumped a foot in the air at the sight of you lol, all like “HIGH EMPEROR?! OH MY- Oh my gods- Uh- sorry, so sorry about that!” and then proceeds to immediately hide Taro behind his back all red in the face lmao, refuses to acknowledge it, will get even redder if you keep pressing him about it lol

Yoimiya = so Yoimiya canonically really loves to go out into nature and explore, and go for that sunset hike type of person! so you, once again assume all these thru tutorial or teyvat craftsmen help, made her a hammock! She’s apparently really bad about falling asleep outside, and since hammocks can be really lightweight and good for temperate weather (ive tried it, sleepin in a hammock for camping its kinda nice, as long as you dont fall out/toss and turn a lot in ur sleep), and you even added some extra ropes on the sides so she can tie it down and not upend herself while she’s sleeping (keeps the hammock from tilting). She literally squealed and dragged u all over Inazuma trying it out with you, and because she chats with her neighbors/community a lot, EVERYONE KNOWS YOU GOT HER A HAMMOCK, YOU PAINTED IT AND EVERYTHING, DID YOU KNOW YOIMIYA IS ONE OF THE ALLOGENES THAT GOT BLESS WITH A PERSONAL GIFT FROM THE ALL-GOD??!! - everyone in Inazuma near her house, including yoimiya

Dehya = so Dehya likes to upkeep personal hygiene as much as she can between her mercenary job roughness and the general battery of the desert. She also is known to stop by the market place to pick up makeup and other personal hygiene products! So you figured if she’s collected so many of those over time, she might just have a practical bag to carry them in, and you offer her a multi-pocket cloth bag (like for taking makeup when you travel bags) and also attach a mirror inside! She literally covered her face with her hands and Dunyazard lightly teased her for weeekkssss lmao, and the other guys in her mercenary group like “wowww, someone managed to tame the Flame Mane?” which just makes her more shy bc the God of ALL decided to HANDMAKE her a gift, and not just a frilly thing, an ACTUAL USEFUL PRETTY GIFT- she accidentally set her claymore alight when you finished explaining what it was and handed to her (it’s fireproof too)

Electro Allogenes:

Lisa = a decorated tea set! Specifically, you painted it her favorite color, with some of her favorite book quotes across the saucers and her favorite flowers across the teapot. She gave you the prettiest smile, and just “Oh cutie! For little old me? You’re a bit above a librarian like me, but I’ll still accept this with all the grace of a lady courted, haha!” insists on “trying them out” with you all the time, especially when you get too busy from the other allogenes <3

Fischl (they/them Fischl supremacy) = You made a book cover (like how some books will have the paper sleeve and the actual hardcover is just colored? like that) of Prinzessin der Verteilung, but looking a lot more like them rather then the old protagonist! They collectively lost their mind over it for literal weeks, and did the same for you for your most relatable protagonist! :D They insist you two start a fantasy book club now- NO they don’t care if you’re the All Fürst! That makes you all the more qualified for joining the elite literature society they’re starting!

Razor = a bunch of hair ties! You’ve made scrunchies, bows, clips, etc. for him to try and decorate his hair with, all of things he likes, like little wolf puppies, or Andrius’ but cuteified, little symbols of all his friends like little bomb design hairclips for Klee, a red four leaf clover for Benny, a purple rose for Lisa, a golden star for the traveler, and an eight pointed star, like the four-pointed one but with some flare in between its points. A prominent symbol apparently associated with you u found out :0, Razor is giving Barbara and Klee a run for their money bc of how cute he looks walking into town for Lisa’s lessons with all this cute little clips and hair ties and braids in his hair now <3

Keqing = you know. you know EXACTLY what to give her. Plushies of cute animals or creatures in or around Liyue, like the little snow foxes from Dragonspire, a tiny oceanid, the small geovishaps, etc. Keqing doesn’t care if you’re a god, remember! So you better swear to never tell a soul you made her these!! …she sleeps with them too.

Raiden Shogun (puppet) = what to give a cold hard b*tch? …a break. you talk to Ei and make her give the puppet some off days, and you also may or may not have bullied Ei for being a hermit, so she can explore and learn more about herself, instead of being forced into the image, literally, of her god. She tries to write you months in advance for making plans on her days off so you can join her!

Ei (god) = an open window bc she’s a hermit, i mean of course you bring her out on “updates” (she weirdly choked a little over tea when you presented this idea to her, “Ahem- cough- a date? Oh, as in getting more familiar with the world, yes of course,” you basically pull out a map and take her to other countries so she can see how the other gods are doing these days and finally do something new, she is overwhelmed but in a good way? And she's especially willing to do it if you keep calling them that, these “up-dates”

Yae Miko = you were honestly kind of intimidated by giving Yae Miko a handmade gift, it just seemed like she would like something of high quality, which your gifts weren’t always guaranteed to be. So instead, you didn’t. You made a cool little picnic, and in remembering her love of stories from her lore as a kid, you brought some of your world’s stories to show her, the classics, then any favorites of yours, and some you thought she might like, and read them all to her about once a week. You both talk about and discuss the book and let Yae nitpick it and try to give her more context for books like Shakespeare in hope to answer all her detailed questions about the stories. Yae was so fucking smug (and secretly so in love) that she wrote a story for Yae Publishing House about it… “Joining a Book Club with the Akitsu Mikami, a Romance Novel” 💀

Sara = damn another busy woman, you steal her away with the promise of “needing a body guard” and she immediately answers and drops everything (u made sure to choose a slow day, dw ur not a rude god) andddd you’ve got her! Sara literally just stood there in shock when you showed up at your meeting place with homecooked food, specifically new recipes from your world, and some recipes from Xiangling! She would not stop stuttering out thanks yous the entire time, and fumbled with her chopsticks constantly, and she ate a lot, and even shyly asked if she could take some of it with her for later, now anytime you mention food around her she unintentionally starts looking at you with puppy dog eyes, (baby crow eyes??) even if the rest of her posture is perfect/gives nothing away lol

Beidou = A hand woven wine cask holder! a bit more solid so you can paint some designs on it, and you painted the whole crew, with Kazuha in the crow’s nest and Beidou is the biggest figure on it (stylized, u arent trying to paint a renaissance artwork here) and you even put her name on it “Captain Beidou” :) You were rewarded with a tall muscular woman squeezing you with her muscular arms, Beidou only puts her best wine/sake bottle in it, and only uses it for special occasions! she may or may not have had to make sure and hide it in her Captain’s quarters so other pirates won’t steal it, since everybody on the seas heard about the All Mighty giving her a personalized gift, but dont worry! She’s a pirate captain, she’s used to defending her most prized treasures from others <3

Shinobu = a spa day for another overworking woman, you made her another mask and hair tie! They still match her of course, but they also subtly have that eight point star symbol you’ve had associated with yourself before (like the four point but with a little flare), and she literally went so red, she hid behind Itto for a second. who helped morally support her enough to try it on, and it’s definitely her most comfortable mask!

Cyno = you were a little… embarrassed to make this one, but Cyno mentioned wanting it so… You made a TCG card of yourself. With the world in your hands as you hover in the middle of a solar system, you paint yourself giving a small smile down at Teyvat’s world cupped in your hands. One of the symbols they associate with you, the eight pointed star, not equal points, but rather a four pointed star with embellishments, said symbol glows and dangles from a necklace you wear, above it all. You swear he stared at it for a solid minute without blinking, and when you initially offered it, Cyno held it like it was spun glass. He gently laid it on a table nearby, his eyes never leaving it as he got out his deck, and put the card of you, on the very top. The mahamatra then gently set it down, and then gently hugged you and picked you up off your feet a bit (when you said maybe you were too heavy for this, he just raised an eyebrow, and that’s when you remembered that trailer of him throwing a body-builder man, one-armed, over his shoulder. He easily lifted you and set you back down. 💀)

Dori = A herb garden. Strange, but Dori’s sister has a lot of medical issues, and the herbs can be hard to come by, even for Dori, you didn’t tell her that you read some parts of her life, but when she saw the planter box, she knew. You had ventured far and wide, all over Teyvat, and the stuff you had came with you! so you put one of every herb you had or went out and got some because you’ve been exploring Teyvat anyway. And for once… you made sure no one was around, Dori teared up. She carefully set the box full of lively plants aside, and you were in the middle of explaining how to take care of them when she just, wrapped her smaller frame around your lower legs. You squatted down to hug her back :’)

Anemo Allogenes:

Venti = another book you made (look up “how to make a zine” on youtube it’s actually kinda easy) that you filled with all the lyrics to all your favorite songs, and some classics! The bard was ecstatic because he technically had vague knowledge or recognition of most of Teyvat’s songs, but songs from another world didn’t count, hehe! …he may or may not have lightly guilt-tripped you into trying to sing or hum some of the tunes or melodies of the songs, “I need to hear the melody so I may play it for you for eternity, your highness!” That’s his gift back, is that now you can get a Venti medieval sounding cover version of any song you like lmao

Sucrose = you’ve made another book (bought in Teyvat or made, check out “how to make a zine” on youtube it’s easy so I think you could feasibly handmake it!) and filled it with as much information as you can on how things like electricity works, luckily you can still retrieve information from Earth thanks to Albedo managing to somehow get you a signal?? You don’t wanna know, but point is, she’s literally spiraling. It’s been days, Albedo had to be the one to drag her out of the lab and eat, while you are starting to doubt if your gift did more harm then help… as soon as you voice these thoughts to Sucrose she nearly shook your head off from shaking your shoulders so hard while she ranted about phones, telephone poles, paved roads and she actually offered books back in exchange, for leveling allogenes up, as long as you told her more about “Those ships that go underwater again?? Please, Your Highness???” cute puppy dog eyes but worse bc she’s got cute glasses on too, oh no-

Jean = another workaholic woman who just needs a break, god why are there so many of them?? Your first thought was a spa day, but you like to think you can do better than that. In fact, she’s had a pretty heavy load since she was a kid trying to uphold the Gunnhildr clan’s name/knighthood, so you decide that instead of spa day, you should have a fun day! So you decide to take her out some days for some fun around Mondstadt (and recruit Venti to help do things like boost the winds for extra fun), like shield surfing! (look up Breath of the Wild shield surfing video if you dont know what i mean), it's something a lot of young knights do, and it’s perfect for Mondstadt’s hilly landscape! Other things like flying kites, or even rerouting all her work for part of the Windblume festival so she could enjoy it more! THEN you kidnap her all over again, and Barbara, to go to Fontaine! What better way for her to have genuine fun than getting a break to see and have fun with her younger sister and go see a colorful circus/fair? Jean was literally just a constant stream of “thank you your majesty! my gracious god, thank you- this is too much-, All-Fürst I am forever indebted to you for this!” and ur just like :/ Jean that’s the whole point of a gift is that you aren’t indebted to somebody-

Xiao = a friendship bracelet :) since he likes jewelry, and he likes you, it's perfect! and u made it match his necklace. you’ve also put that same water from the fountain that soothes the Khaenri’ah’s curse, and put it in there, and it actually lessens his karma, so for the first time in about 2 centuries, Xiao the Yaksha, can actually sleep through the night. You weren’t looking, but when you turned away to show him your sketches or plans for how to craft it, he sort of, reached out. You felt his hand warm on your wrist before it retreated, you could already feel the callouses, as the small weight of a bracelet was wrapped around your hand, his return gift, so u guys could match 👉👈 Xiao breathes out what sounds like all those years of pain in one shaky, relieved, “…thank you” (he did all that while you were turned around in your bag too, he was too shy to look at you when he put it on lmao)

Kazuha = “So this is what you’ve been up to lately, hm?” Kazuha’s been kind and laidback enough that he’s one of the allogenes who quickly dropped the formal titles luckily. He’s been seeing you sneak around and present your gifts to the others… and he came prepared in case you came to give him something too! Before you can even get out, “Hey, Kazuha, do you have a minute? I’ve got something for y-” boom. He’s beat you to it, he’s saying the same damn thing, and pulling out his gift for you. It’s a lovely Inazuman outfit, decked out in your favorite color, it’s like if you were an Inazuman character yourself- You just accept it half in shock, while Kazuha gives this small smile, but u can see the smug little look in his eyes, that little shit he really prepared a countermove- HE EVEN WROTE YOU REALLY SWEET POETRY AND EMBROIDERED IT INTO SOME OF THE INSIDE HEM LINES LIKE THE COLLAR -//////- ← you rn as Kazu’s all fucking smug, you end up just being like “take ur crummy gift u little shit” and nearly throw it at him lol, sweet asshole that he is, catches it anyway, and you’ve made him new hair ties, some minimal clips that look like maple leaves (like felt fabric stuck onto the clip bit) and the new hairtie is more like a scrunchie with a pretty red knot on top, your own symbol of an eight-pointed star, like an extra four-pointed star not the star of david lmao, sits in the center of the traditional japanese knot. He wears it nearly all the time, and mentions making you one to match (>:/ sweet considerate little shit he is)

Sayu = you’ve made her a quilt! stitched together from all sorts of cute fabrics, so it still matches her color scheme, she wraps up in it now before going into that balled up tanuki form lol, she insists you break it in with her and take a nap with her constantly lmao, and you give in even if you dont always sleep because of her tiny half-asleep smile (sayu knows the grip she has on you lol💔)

Heizou = a mystery novel a friendship necklace! you knew him and his friend had once had something similar, (they were more like matching river rocks or pebbles not jewelry you think) so you desperately hoped it wouldn’t be too offensive. The little shit who saw it coming #2, whereas Kazuha suspected you might offer him something, he didn’t have quite the same intution that Heizou did, so the detective knew you were going to give him something >:/ little snitch- he was so smug and teasing about it right up until he actually saw the necklace, it draped lower so it didnt look weird with his choker, and it was a pretty crystal you’d gotten from a riverbed (you didnt tell Heizou bc of the similarity w/his old friend, but he knew anyway) and he immediately looked the most serious you’ve ever seen him. His grin was less of a smirk and more of a smile when he processed what you gave him, and he wears it all the time :) Calls it his "God blessed good luck charm"

Scara/Wanderer = It was very hard, and you had to learn how from a blacksmith, but you finally got it! You made a small addon that latches onto the outside frame of his Vision, so instead of the sort of teardrop shape it has, you’ve made a heart shape. Since he sees the vision as his heart, you thought it’d be cute to actually see it that way! He was all like “I don’t wear jewelry, I already have some metal holding my Vision, are you trying to embarrass me?” You: “okay, well you don’t have to keep it, I’ll take it back-” Scara: “No? Shut up it’s mine now.” He went pink the first time he put it on, and he only wears it when it’s just you two, or you both and Nahida (bless her, she only lightly teased him, just enough to have him yell a little, not enough to discourage him)

Faruzan = a compass that points towards ruins/magical places, so she can explore all the ruins the desert has to give, and also, more importantly, guides her out, you deffo relied on a blacksmith for this one, and got Nahida to help you add the magic to it. She just got this, soft and bittersweet? look on her face, and redirected the nostalgic look towards you, bowed gently and thanked you, … you offered her a hug. Faruzan accepted, and you could feel the way she exhaled, relieved.

I finally got to read the second part of protection bc ya girl is FINALLY done with summer courses! Anyways I love their dynamic I kinda love how she fights back and is witty! I love how we got to see a bit of vulnerability from her and the store moment with the child broke my heart bc the MC didn’t didn’t deserve that as a child as a fellow girly girl it’s daddy issues this speaks to me lol and honestly I wouldn’t mind those issues being looked further into within the story if you’re comfortable with that!

Now I loved how we got to see a bit of jealousyrry! I am a sucker for jealousyrry, within reason and not toxic of course! And I found it kinda adorable that he’s suppose portray this “big bad” bodyguard in when he was suppose to pull off that drunk guy off her and he sort of got shy and flustered when she like pretended to be dating him! I thought it was absolutely adorable and I was giggling like an idiot! Also I found it kinda hot when he told her off lol but because he does seem super chill and him kinda breaking with a very good reason was definitely a marker in their relationship! I loved it and I can’t wait for more!!

As for your posting schedule, I typically think the summer more ppl are active in terms of reading. At least for me rn I’m catching up on stories or starting on some that I’ve had my eye on for awhile! Even though I still have to do adult things 😔 I definitely have more time. But I can understand your perspective as a write and feeling a bit down but just know that you are absolutely amazing and adored and those who truly appreciate you will always be here💜

now come on 😭 mack 😭😭😭 this called me single in fifteen different ways, THE PAIN. oh how i loved it. gorgeous gorgeous chapter (as always).

1. chris will always be one of my all time fave ofcs, let me just say that first

2. "she knows that when he inevitably does step back, she'll be chilled by the absence of his warmth." i'm not crying i'm not crying i'm not-

3. "all this talk about her outfit, but she's just his accessory." WHAT THIS IS SUCH A GREAT LINE. and so true. anyone next to charles is just his accessory, sorry ppl. + "he looks annoyingly gorgeous, per usual, and entirely too kissable." yep he does. all the time.

4. "her lipstick is smudged. she wonders where on charles she lost it." EXCUSE ME. THESE TWO SENTENCES. could've given me a warning that i'll be throwing my phone across the room again.

Chris peeks her head out around the sliding door into the bedroom, finds him sitting on the couch ready to go, scrolling through his phone and nodding along to the Carrie Underwood playlist playing from Chris’ phone in the bathroom. They’d had an impromptu dance party half an hour earlier to Cowboy Cassanova–hairbrush microphones and all–while Chris was doing her makeup. Charles butchered the chorus and stumbled to keep up with the verses, but he brought energy, and that’s all that matters. “Close your eyes!” She calls out to him.

“They’re closed,” he says, putting a hand over his eyes, peeking directly through his fingers.

“No, they’re not.”

“They are!”

“I’m looking at you.”

“Chris, Chris, Chris,” he laughs, closing his fingers over his eyes. “They’re closed.”

“Okay,” she says, stepping out from behind the door. The heels of her boots click across the floor with every step, coming to a soft stop a few feet in front of his seated position. She adjusts the strap of her bra and flattens down her dress, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Open.”

When she was packing for the trip, Charles had told her that they’d probably go out at least one night, that to be safe, she should bring a couple different outfits. Today, she’d settled on the most classic article of clothing in her wardrobe, a little black dress. Paired with a leather blazer to make it, as Hannah had said, “just a little classier,” she’s also got her full collection of jewelry on; from a string of pearls to her friendship bracelets. The star of the show, however, is her shoes.

Cowboy boots. Red cowboy boots. The pair has sat in the back of her closet for years now, barely worn in because where do you even wear a pair of firetruck red cowboy boots? She’s giddy about finally getting to wear them.

“Sacrément fille!” He exclaims, eyes trailing her entire figure as he stands.

“Shut up,” she laughs, shoving his shoulder away.

He grabs her wrist from the air between them on the recoil of the shove, pulls her close, almost flush against him and slinks an arm around her waist like it belongs there. It burns her entire body, him so close, looking at her like he does. She doesn’t know what to do with herself, wraps her arms around his neck like they’re going to slow dance at the senior prom.

“You don’t even know what I said,” he smirks.

She rolls her eyes. “The look on your face is as good as Google Translate.”

“I like the boots.”

“They’re red,” she smiles up at him, sticks her foot out to the side so he can see it without craning his neck, without having to step back from her. She knows that when he inevitably does step back, she’ll be chilled by the absence of his warmth. All this talk about her outfit, but she’s just his accessory. He looks annoyingly gorgeous, per usual, and entirely too kissable.

He nods. “I know.”

She’s struck with the urge to just stay. To slip the do not disturb hook over the door and stay in for the night. “You know what else is red?”

“Hmm?”

She raises her brows, smirks. Guess, she implies it all. Guess what else is red, Charles. He blushes as red as her boots, has to break his eyes from hers to roll them, shake his head and run his tongue over the front of his teeth with a chuckle.

“You’re trouble.”

“Mmhm,” she hums, standing on her toes to kiss him. His hand moves up her back, cups the back of her head and deepens the kiss. You’d think he was starved, the way he takes control of the kiss she’d initiated, pulls her to him. To him, to him. Close enough he could build a home in her mouth. She pulls back with a breathy laugh, sinks her teeth into her bottom lip to keep the smile from growing too giddy. “Let’s go,” she says, because if they don’t leave now she worries they won’t leave.

“Troublé,” he calls after her when she disappears into the bathroom to retrieve her phone.

“Charles,” she hums all singsongy. “I want you to speak to me like one of your American girls.”

They uber to the club with Joris and Arthur, who Chris is pretty sure are already half-drunk by the time they’re climbing into the black SUV.

“We got to get you laid tonight,” Arthur says, reaching his hands over the passenger seat headrest to give Joris an overdramatic shoulder massage.

“Do you want me to ‘have you met Ted’ him?” Chris asks. She’s met with a car full of confused eyes and a deafening silence. Bombed that one, Chris.

“Quoi?” Arthur asks. Joris shrugs.

“What is ‘have you met Ted?’” Charles asks with a gentle smile and patient eyes. She feels like one of her students, like she’s speaking a foreign language.

She opens her mouth to speak but just sighs. “I don’t… I don’t know how to explain it,” she says. “Just. I’ll get you someone tonight, don’t even worry about it.”

“I don’t need any of you to find me a girl,” Joris defends. “I can handle that all on my own.”

“Alright, mate,” Charles says, puts his arm around Chris’ shoulder and leans in to whisper, just for her, “Help him.”

There’s a whole group of drivers at the club they head to. Chris is still trying to learn their names, to match the names with the faces. She follows behind Arthur, walks in front of Charles, guided by his hands on her shoulders through the crowd. He calls out greetings to the drivers as he passes, until she’s flashing the stamp on her hand and being ushered into a section with even more drivers. Pierre and his girlfriend, Kika, Charles makes the introductions. Lando, Carlos and Isa. “Esteban et Elena arrivent,” Pierre relays to Charles with an eye roll. Charles smiles, pats Pierre on the shoulder.

“Vous pouvez être gentil,” he quips.

Little time is wasted in getting drinks in their hands, in running the bill of whoever’s paying for the table.

Chris is a puppet and her whiskey sour is the strings, sipping from a glass that never empties, the bottle girl’s ratio caring less about her sobriety and more about racking up the bill. The strobe lights are half-blinding, liquor erasing the threat of a headache.

She moves with Charles and his fingers splayed over her hips, the force of him a greater pull than the soul-shaking beat could dream of being. He’s hot. Hot and sweaty and half of it has to be hers. The blazer and bag are long abandoned on a chair over there, or maybe it’s over there, who knows anymore? The straps of her dress barely conceal her bra strap and she’s paranoid about it the entire time they’re dancing, constant adjustments with every clap of the men huddled around the DJ booth.

One of the girlfriends, the young one, Chris can’t remember her name, steals her away for a round of shots. She doesn’t ask what it is, downs it without a chaser and it’s smooth in a way only the expensive stuff can manage.

“I love your boots!” Kika speaks. Kika! That’s her name. Kika, Kika, Kika, remember it, Chris, remember it. Her accent is thick and unplaceable over the music, even as she speaks inches from Chris’ ear.

Chris laughs. “Thank you!”

“You have to send me a link!”

“I’m so sorry!” She apologizes directly into Kika’s ear, the two girls with a gentle hold on each other’s forearms while they speak, anchoring each other in place amongst the packed section. “I have no clue where I got them.”

When Chris does turn back around to make her way back to Charles, he’s nowhere in her sightline. There’s not enough room for him to have vanished, he’s got to be hidden by someone’s body. Maybe he’s found her blazer. She sits with Kika for a while, the two girls exchanging compliments every time the conversation needs to change topics. They go on like that until more people, the other girlfriend’s she’d been introduced to… Elaine and Emma? She knows she’s not close.

“We’re going to the bathroom,” one of them says. “Come with?” Her eyes dart between Kika and Chris. Both girls nod and join the train to the bathroom. On the way through the group–I’m going to find Lily, someone says–Chris spots Charles again.

They brush past each other with a shared smile, a wordless exchange that he still manages to slur, blown pupils boring into her. If Chris thought she could stop and talk, she’d be asking Charles what the girls’ names are. There isn’t time for that, though. Someone really needs to pee. Elena. Elena really needs to pee. Elena, Elena, Elena.

“Isa!” Elena calls out to the other. Isa, Isa, Isa. Good, now she knows everyone’s name again.

“I’m getting Lily!” Isa responds.

Chris has no idea who Lily is, much less where she is, so she continues following behind Kika and Elena to the bathroom line. There’s eleven people ahead of them in line and Elena looks like she might have to pee on the floor.

The line moves quickly, though, and before they know it they’re bursting through the door and giggling at the speed of Elena’s heels on the floor. “Dio mio,” she says, the stall door clattering shut.

“So, Chris–it’s Chris right?” Elena asks through the plastic of the stall.

“Yeah.”

“Chris,” she laughs. “How did you meet Charles, anyway?”

She checks herself out in the vanity mirror. Her lipstick is smudged. She wonders where on Charles she lost it. “Uhm,” she hangs on the sound, making a half-hearted attempt at fixing the smear. “We met at COTA,” Chris explains, going into one of the stalls and grabbing a shred of toilet paper. “At the grand prix.”

“Oh, my God!” Elena exclaims. “You’re the girl Isa heard about!”

“What?!” Chris laughs. People are hearing about her. Stay cool. You’re so cool, Chris.

“Yeah,” she says, and the toilet flushes. She resumes her sentence when she re-enters the bathroom. ”Carlos told Isa about some girl Charles was fucked about.”

Simultaneously, Isa, and who Chris’ master deduction skills lead her to believe is Lily, enter the bathroom, the latter flipping off someone in line. “I told you, my friend is throwing up in there!” She yells and the group already in the bathroom goes cricket silent. Lily’s demeanor instantly changes when the door closes behind them. “Anyways,” she smiles.

“Well,” Kika says, laughing and turning back to Chris, “I knew all about you,” she says. “Charles and Pierre love gossip.”

“Oh my god!” Lily exclaims, “you’re Charles’ girl?” Chris can feel herself blush, hopes that it can be masked by the flush of the sweat and the liquor. She’s not his girl, but she doesn’t hate the way it sounds. No, she doesn’t hate it at all. “Wait. Are you guys like together, together?” Lily asks.

“No,” Chris smiles, but you can keep calling me his girl. I won’t stop you. “We’re just… hanging out? I dunno, it’s weird because it’s all long-distance.”

“But you like him a lot?”

“Yeah.” Blushing. Harder. “A lot.”

“Ugh,” Isa groans. “Charles is such a sweetheart, you guys are adorable.” Chris thanks her meekly.

“He’s not looking at you very sweetheart-like tonight,” Kika quips with a silly giggle. “He can’t keep his eyes off you.”

“Or that dress,” Elena adds.

“Fuck me eyes, for sure,” Lily says, bursting into laughter. Chris is redder than her boots now, surely.

“Guys, guys,” Kika breaks through her laugh. “We’re embarrassing her.”

Lily complains the entire walk back to their sections that she can’t stay with them. She’s with Alex, in Max’s section, in the Redbull section. She makes Isa and Elena promise to text her about any and everything exciting that happens. They get back to their table just in time for the show, for the bottle girls with their lights and sparklers and thousands of dollars worth of liquor and their giant signs. Chris can hear Pierre’s laugh over everything, can hear Charles’ Fuck you, mate, followed by a laugh of his own. When the girl holding the sign finally turns, Chris chokes on a giggle. GET ‘EM NEXT YEAR CHAMP, the sign reads.

She can feel eyes on her. Charles, she hopes. Charles, she can’t find in the chaos. When she does spot him, half-dead sparkler still in his hand, head drunkenly bobbing along to the beat, he’s looking right at her, grins a stupid grin and winks.

They go on like that for some insufferable amount of time, catching each other’s eyes across the crowded section, never once managing to bump into each other. She doesn’t know about him, but every time she decides enough is enough, becomes all too aware of his eyes and the way that they never seem to be off her, chooses to take matters into her own hands, she’s stopped short by someone who wants her to take a photo of them or take a shot with them or sit and chat with them.

She finds her blazer and bag in the mess, turns around and is finally running into him. “Qu'est-ce que ç'est?” He asks, pointing to the glass in her hand. She’s almost positive that even if she did speak French, she wouldn’t be able to make out his question.

“Wh…” she takes a shot in the dark, makes an assumption with the point to the glass and the quirked brow. “Water.”

“Water,” he sighs out into a pout, snaking his arm around her waist, swaying drunkenly with her. She laughs at their differences in sobriety. He laughs when she does. “No fun.”

“You should drink some,” she says, “if you’re plannin’ on getting any tonight.” She’s just as bad as he is, just tipsy enough that her accent gets thicker, her annunciation fading away into the thump of the bass.

“I can’t hear you,” he shakes his head, dropping it down to her mouth in an attempt to gain some clarity. Chris rolls her eyes. Must she do everything?

She pulls him impossibly closer, hand on the back of his neck, undoubtedly leaving a lipstick smear on his ear. “Do you want to have sex tonight?”

His head whips up quicker than she thought the liquor would allow. He’s looking at her, looking into her, lips so close she can almost feel them kissing her and she’s supposed to not kiss him?

He tastes like his drink and laughs into her mouth, digging his fingers into the fabric on her hip. “Yes,” he says, crystal clear.

“Then sober up, Bud,” she says, gives him a solid pat on the chest. He nods, swallows hard and stands up stick-straight to salute her. She laughs like it’s the funniest joke she’s ever been told and pushes him away, off into the direction of the table itself and the water that sits atop it.

It’s forty-five minutes and three glasses of ice water later that she’s telling him to order the Uber, another ten before they’re abandoning Arthur and Joris somewhere and leaving the rest of the group with an Irish goodbye. Chris never does fulfill her promise to get Joris laid. Fifteen more minutes of Charles and his roaming hands in the backseat of the car, Chris somehow finding the restraint to giggle each time, to tell him with every kiss, every touch, wait. Wait until we’re at the hotel.

“Do you want people to know you’re here?” Charles asks.

“What?” She asks, instinctively following his eyeline to a group of men waiting outside the hotel entrance. They’ve got their phones out, one of them with a Ferrari cap on, the others decked out in different team merch, and their eyes dart around like a driver is going to manage to teleport past them. “Not really.”

She sinks into her seat while Charles chats with the Uber driver. They speak in English, but Chris doesn’t hear much of it. She’s too busy staring at the four boys just meters away.

“Are you alright?” Charles asks, and she’s back in the car.

“Sorry,” she says. “What are we doing?”

“I’m getting out now, he’s going to take a lap and then you’ll get out,” Charles explains. “Are you alright, though?”

She nods. “Yeah.” It’s a reminder to her, and a glaring one at that, of what this all is. She keeps allowing her brain the leniency to forget that he’s someone to a lot of people, that he isn’t just Charles, the guy she’s hanging out with. “I’m good.” He pauses with raised, unconvinced brows. His eyes search hers for the truth and are met with a nearly imperceivable nod, a silent, stoic confirmation that he can step out of the vehicle.

The car is silent on the long lap around the hotel. She can hear the parking lot pebbles under the rubber of the tires, the breathing pattern of the driver, her own heartbeat. It’s the kind of quiet that makes everything else loud.

The guys are still there when she does climb out of the car, geeking out in a language she doesn’t speak and can’t identify. She bites down hard on a smile and ducks into the building, finds him waiting for her–nervous eyes and all–leant against the wall beside the elevators.

“Good?” He asks, standing up straight, holding his hand out to find hers, pushing the elevator doors open button with the other.

“Great,” she lets her smile speak, interlocks their fingers like it’s her favorite thing to do. The doors ding, open, and they step inside. “Don’t worry about me.”

“I don’t,” he says. An obvious lie.

“I like being your little secret.”

“Oh, do you?”

Chris nods, links her arms around his neck and moves so that she’s flush against him. Close, close, close. They’d spent far too much of the night away, far too much of the weekend. Nothing is close enough, not with implication in the air, not with fabric between them. She kisses him, hums the buzz of their energy. “Your dirty little secret,” she whispers into the breath between their parted lips.

His hands slip inside her blazer, run along her sides over the fabric of her dress. “Fuck,” he mutters through a chuckle, droping his head to kiss her neck, to mark every possible space between her clavicle and her lips as his. She’s more than happy to let him, to be claimed by him. Take me, have me. Please–make me yours. “You make me crazy,” he says between kisses, with a lazy laugh against her skin that she wants to taste, to swallow up with the rest of him. He kisses her hard, stumbling until they find their footing in the middle of the elevator.

The doors open with another ding and he jumps back from her, stares at his shoes, scratching the back of his neck, running his hand over his hair. Chris can see the blush on his ears, a giggle escaping her lips when she’s met with two strangers glancing up from their phone just long enough to trade places.

It’s silent, dead but for the poorly choked laugh from Chris.

“Shut up,” Charles whispers as they walk down the hall. The moment the elevator doors shut behind them, she’s smacking her hand over her mouth, laughing loud and achingly into the skin. “It’s not funny,” he says, but it’s breathy and full of his own laughter. When they’ve made it all the way to their room door without quelling the giggle-fit, when Chris’ inability to stop laughing becomes funnier than what she was laughing about in the first place, Charles laughs out a simple, “stop?”

She straightens while he holds the keycard over the lock, looks at him with a forced frown, fighting hard against their own upturned corners, a quivering bottom lip holding back the floodgates of her laughter. “Make me.”Make her, he does–pushing open the door with his back, finding her wrist and pulling her inside. He doesn’t have to pull–you don’t have to pull. I’m following. He tries to swallow her laugh but then she’s the one pulling, disappearing down the short hall into the suite, a knot of giggles and implication and excitement and everything, everywhere, all at once ties itself around her insides at the sound of his feet behind her.

They sleep in late Monday morning, and Chris needs little convincing to order room service instead of trudging down to the lobby, hangover and all. Chris can stay in bed all day watching TV. Something from Netflix, English audio with French subtitles that took her eleven minutes to find. Charles, who hasn’t been mindful about keeping his things tidy, has to get out of bed earlier to start gathering his things and packing up his bags.

She reads her book, spends half of the time re-reading the same page because she keeps getting distracted by the shirtless man walking around the room. She hopes he isn’t paying too much attention to her, that he isn’t realizing she hasn’t turned a page in fifteen minutes.

“Do you know how long the flight is?” She asks over the edge of the page.

“Didn’t you come from Nice?” He asks, folding a Ferrari polo at the edge of the bed.

“No, Paris.”

His brows raise. “Why did you do that?”

She laughs. “You’re the one who booked the flights.”

“Well,” he matches her chuckle. “Why did I do that to you?”

The plane leaves at 12:30 in the afternoon. A private charter, a full flight; Chris and Charles and his family and Andrea and Joris and Nicolas. It’s her first introduction to the last, who finds his seat at the back of the plane with Andrea.

Chris grades papers for the first half of the flight–instinct at this point every time she steps onto a private plane. She’s sat across from Pascale and Charles, next to Arthur. Lorenzo naps, sprawled out across three seats and knocked out cold. When she finishes the geography worksheets, Pascale is reading a book and the boys are playing chess. She watches their game intently, studying the board and the boys’ moves. Charles moves his king back diagonally, leaves it hesitantly in d2. Arthur counters ,moves his bishop from e6 to d7. Charles, with the king again, is running from Arthur. D2 to c2.

Chris is not, under any circumstances, a chess prodigy. She does, however, have a repetition-based memory system, and has watched her older sister Chandler play a million and one solo games over the years. She knows the game well enough to see something Arthur–for whatever reason–doesn’t.

In his infinite wisdom, his fingers hover over his bishop, Chris watches on as he inches closer and closer to an error. She can’t help herself, the competitiveness taking over. She reaches over his arm, picks up his rook and moves it forward a space. He looks at her confused, but she gestures for him to come closer. “Fool's mate,” she whispers, and Arhtur’s eyes dart to the board, back to Chris just as confused as they’d started. “Promote your rook, then e1 to b1.”

Charles is looking at her with a confused smile, mouth ever so slightly open. “What do you see?”

“You, losing,” she says, sitting back in her chair to watch Arthur beat him.

“Yeah,” Arthur nods, wags a taunting finger at Charles. “You, losing.”

Charles ignores his brother, keeps his eyes on her. “You play chess?”

“There are a multitude of things you don’t know about me,” she says, and it all feels so familiar. Familiar and familial and like finding the perfect skipping rock at the lake.

“Please, tell me all of them.”

“Oh, mon dieu!” Arthur interjects. “Get a room!”

Charles kicks him under the table, pretends to have an itch on his face to get away with flipping off his kid brother. Chris laughs softly at the whole interaction, adjusts in her seat and looks up just in time to catch Pascale’s glance over the top of her book. “Is it a good read?” She asks, “I’m always looking for new books to add to my list.”

Pascale smiles, sets the book page down on the table. “You are a big reader?”

“Oh, yeah,” Chris nods. “Almost every night before bed.”

“That’s wonderful! I wish these boys would read more.

“I read,” Charles defends, finally making his move. King, c2 to c3. Exactly what she knew he’d have to do.

“What do you read?” Pascale asks Charles.

“F1 gossip,” Arthur chimes in.

“Arthur.”

“Maman.”

“Go back to your game. Chris and I are trying to have a nice conversation.

“You brought us into it,” Charles mumbles, scanning the board.

“I,” she sighs, shakes her head and shares a laugh with Chris. “Yes,” she says, “To answer your question, yes. It’s very good. You can borrow it when I finish if you’d like.”

“Oh,” Chris smiles, catching Charles staring in his peripheral vision. “I uh, I can’t read French,” she admits, and the language barrier feels so much bigger to overcome than it ever has. It’s glaring at her like an angry elephant.

Pascale nods. “Make Charles read it to you.”

They land in Nice, France at 6:10 in the evening. Exhausted, they say their goodbyes to Nicolas, who is taking another flight to Paris. The rest of them are led through the airport’s back hallways to the helicopter pad, where they take a seven-minute ride to Monaco.

“Have you ever been in a… one of these?” Arthur asks.

Chris nods. “My brother has his pilot’s license.”

In a parking garage beside Monaco’s own private helicopter pad, they say their goodbyes to each other. Chris lingers behind Charles, but Pascale meets her with open arms before hugging her own son, pulls her tight. Tighter than she did the first time they met.

When she does hug Charles, they have an exchange in rapid French.

“C’est une chérie,” Pascale says.

Charles nods, sighs out a chuckle. “Je sais.”

“Est-ce que je vais la revoir?”

“Je l’espère.” Charles’ eyes keep darting over to Chis, bouncing back to his mother each and every time Chris is staring back at him. “Est-ce que tu l’aimes elle?”

Pascale smacks Charles’ shoulder playfully, gives him two kisses on either cheek. “J’aime tous ceux qui te font sourire.”

His apartment, just like every single other thing she’d seen since touching down in the country, permeates wealth. It feels almost fake, like she’s been transported into a movie set or a plastic doll house. Everything is so incredibly perfect–the streets are without potholes, the sidewalks without cracks, the buildings without dirt. The cars are worth more than she is and all of the shrubbery is perfectly manicured. Places like this don’t exist, not in real life, and yet here she is being driven around the streets of the Twilight Zone and staring out the window like a kid in a candy store.

The walls of his complex are carefully decorated with artwork–the abstract kind that nobody really understands but everyone knows costs a fortune. The floors are marbled and the walls are marbled and everything is so clean and shiny and perfect. So perfect it’s practically illness inducing, and he’s here. She’s here with him.

They squeeze into a small elevator with their suitcases, one that definitely would not pass building regulations back home. More marble. More shine. A big, floor to ceiling mirror.

She’s so exhausted. So, so spectacularly tired. She leans against him like a stiff board, forehead against his chest while he chuckles, pets her hair. “I have never been more tired in my life.”

“It’s the jet lag,” he offers.

“I fell asleep six hours ago and woke up in a simulation.”

“You want to do nothing all night?” Charles asks. Chris nods against him.

She’s pretty sure there is gold in the marble. “How much do you pay to live here?”

“A lot,” he mutters. She doesn’t need elaboration.

His apartment tour is top-tier, a potential new wonder of the world. This is the bathroom, this is the picture in the dining room that everyone hates, these are the fake flowers on top of the forty thousand piano–Chris plays a couple notes as she walks behind him through the different rooms. This is the nearly empty wine fridge, all of the bottles are unopened. “I don’t drink wine,” he says. And this, this is the bedroom.

She flops onto the mattress with a heavy sigh. It’s like being suffocated by a cloud of comfort and warmth and sleep. She doesn’t stay for long because she knows if she does she’ll be asleep until morning.

You’d think it was an established, well-oiled routine, the ease at which they navigate the evening. Because Charles, as he tells Chris, doesn’t “really keep food around the house,” they’re stuck with takeout. He translates a menu from his phone only to scroll another couple pages down and find a menu already completely in English.

Charles settles on Seafood Linguine and Chris the Tuna steak with a side of grilled asparagus. She showers while he gets the food, washes the travel grime and the Abu Dhabi dust down the drain. He wins the race to finish the task at hand, a quiet knock on the bathroom door before she hears it creak open. “Food is here,” he says, and she watches the last of her conditioner spin away into the drain.

They eat in the dining room, beside a off-puttingly large photograph of a man whose backstory Chris is too apprehensive to question. Charles is still in the same clothes he’s been wearing all day, and she’s sure he feels coating in a thick layer of sludge from all the altitude changes and recycled, stale air. She sits across from him in pajamas, sweatpants that she couldn’t place the origin of and a heather gray sweatshirt, RES Tigers printed across the front of it in a combination of big red block letters and black cursive. The ends of her hair stain the fabric a dark gray everytime she moves a piece of it.

“I know what we should watch,” he says, around a forkful of her asparagus.

“Hmm?” She hums, mouth full, reaching for her water glass.

“You cried about it.”

She chuckles. “I cry about a lot of movies.”

“You cry for a lot of things. Not specific to movies.”

Chris shrugs. “Guilty.”

“You were having a ‘movie day,’” he says, reaching across the table for his phone, his other hand, fork still between his fingers, feigns quotation marks. He scrolls quickly on the screen. “You say, ‘Jih-ordie makes me cry.’”

When met with her puzzled look, wiping her mouth with a napkin, he turns the phone for her to see. “Oh, Gordie. You want to watch Stand by Me?”

Chris reaches her fork over, stealing a bite of his pasta. “I do not think I have seen it, to be honest,” he says, and she thinks that’s obvious enough by the fact that he mispronounced the main character’s name thirty seconds earlier.

“Well,” she chews, covering her mouth with her hand to block the view of it. “We have to watch it, then.”

Chris, after seven intense minutes of bickering, convinces Charles to let her do the dishes. You still haven’t showered, she argues. It’s my house, he reasons to no avail. His first taste or arguing with an Elliott and he can’t even make it ten minutes without conceding to her.

It takes her longer than it should take any one person to wash a couple of plates and two sets of silverware, but he has a lot of kitchen cabinets and a lot of drawers and she’s opening half of them to try and find the dishes’ homes.

Back in her Georgia home, up the long driveway and inside the purple door, if you make a left at the first doorway you’ll find a green couch, a tall bookshelf, and an antique piano. She’s been learning how to play for what feels like forever, now. What started as a housewarming gift from her grandparents that had sat untuned in their spare bedroom from a time long before Chris, it has become an annual resolution to eventually learn to play. It’s made of softwood and is chipped, scratched, well loved and well played and nowhere nearly as nice or expensive as the upright Steinway sitting in front of her now.

She toys with the keys, looks around the instrument for any sheet music but finds none. Instead, she looks up some basic songs on her phone, sets it on the shelf and begins to play–painfully slow. Each time she tries to pick up the pace, she misses a note or her finger slips and she shakes her head softly, chuckles at her own missteps. It’s a beautiful song, perfectly tuned with keys that would never dream of sticking. It makes her sound so much better than she really is.

“You didn’t tell me you play?” Charles peruses, his feet creaking across the hardwood floors, his presence making the room that much warmer.

“I don’t.”

“Liar,” he says, kisses the crown of her head. He smells clean, like eucalyptus and mint the color blue and April. He reaches behind the piano, between the window and the instrument and pulls out a folder, a piece of paper ripped from a notebook, and hands it to her. “Can you read this?”

She takes it from him, reads it over slowly. It’s sloppily written sheet music, scribbled out in pencil with three eraser tears and a dozen marks on the first page alone. At the top, scribbled in what she assumes is French: la chanson de Charles. “Yeah.”

“Play it?” He asks, already moving to the dining table to get a chair, to pull it up and watch the show. She nods, moves her phone to the bench and sets the papers on the shelf and plays it. Poorly, but played through nonetheless.

“It’s so sad,” she says. He chuckles. “Did you write this?”

He nods through a yawn, stands up to put the chair away. “It is something I’ve been working on. My brother wrote the music because I just play by ear.”

Her face contorts into a foul mix of disbelief and concern. Who the heck plays Piano by ear, she thinks. “This is really good, Charles,” she says. She flips through the pages again, reads them carefully.

“It’s messy,” he moves past her, his fingers tracing her back, shoulder to shoulder as he walks by into the living room and lands on the couch with a soft thump. “I am going to take a nap, and you just keep playing. Work out the mess, maybe.”

He realizes quickly that he’s never going to be able to watch this movie again without thinking of the woman under his arm. For the rest of time, no matter what happens, when he thinks about this movie he will think of her.

She makes it a whole ten minutes before she’s sniffling. They're going on about the importance of a lucky cap and she’s crossing her arms over her chest. He smiles, because sometimes watching her exist is like watching a puppy be perfectly and irresistibly adorable, and then he kisses her hair.

Charles wishes he could ignore the parallels, but they’ve always hit like a punch to the gut–no, no–it’s always been more like getting the wind knocked out of you on the playground as a child. Like you can’t breathe for a minute, but being able to stop breathing all together is never really presented as an option, so. You just have to open your lungs again.

The main character, Gordie, is in a petrol station or market or maybe it’s supposed to be both. Anyways, he’s there and he’s buying food and the clerk is just going on and on about the poor kid’s brother; about how much they look alike and all the potential that went into the ground some time ago.

Yeah, the Jules comparisons are a lot like getting the fucking wind knocked out of you.

She cranes her neck up to look at him like she knows something he hasn’t told her. “Y’okay?” She asks, and when his eyes snap down from the screen to meet hers, he realizes he’s been squeezing her hand. He was telling her something he hadn’t told her–silently, unconsciously.

Chris, he’s come to learn in the past thirty-five or so minutes, talks during movies. She talks a lot during movies. Let me know if you get confused, she’s said… three times now. She seems to be a never-drying well of trivia for the film, from this is why they chose a Yankees cap to there is a Simpon’s parody of this scene, she doesn’t shut up. Honest to God, the best he can do is half-listen, especially if he hopes to understand any of the actual plot.

He feels a wet drop hit his hand near the hour mark during what even he can admit is quite the emotional scene. She sits up shortly after to properly wipe the tears from her face. “Are you okay?” He asks through a chuckle, sitting up, flat hand rubbing circles on her back.

She shakes her head, speaks with a fragile tremble in her tone, “No,” she bites down on the inside of her cheek and her eyes look anywhere but at him.

Charles pauses the movie.

“That teacher is so screwed up!” She continues.

“I know,” he says, and his heart breaks with the shudder of her breaths. This is the first time he’s been faced with her crying. Sure, he’s got the voice memos and the pictures and the videos of her crying across the world over books and movies and television commercials with homeless dogs. He’s never sat there, though, never had to stare down her heartbroken eyes and figure out a way to fix them.

“He’s just a kid,” she sniffles, wipes her eyes once more and takes a deep, heavy breath. She reaches for the remote, settles back into her spot on the sofa and unpauses it. “It just makes me sad.”

“I know,” is all he knows to say. Validate, even if he thinks her emotions are a bit silly. It’s what he’s supposed to do, it’s what a boyf- it’s what a good person is supposed to do. She leans against him, snuggles into him like he’s a pillow or a favorite blanket and he only hopes she isn’t embarrassed about crying, that he’d been able to be a little more emotionally intelligent in calming her down.

You know what, no. It is a boyfriend thing to do. It is. He wants to do boyfriend things without doubting they’re boyfriend things. He wants her to know that a physical display of how much she cares for other people isn’t going to drive him away, that it’s actually horribly, disgustingly endearing. He wants this to have a label, to have the security of a title. “Chris,” he starts, and he’s surprised he isn’t going to think about it all for longer than a moment.

“I’m okay.”

“Will you be my girlfriend?”

She whips her head to face him in the dark living room, in the soft shadows of the television screen lighting. He’s looking right at her, into those fucking eyes that are never not driving him insane. “Are you just asking me so that I stop crying?” She asks.

He shakes his head, doesn’t even entertain the idea with a laugh. “No.”

“You know this is, like, our first date, right?”

He rolls his eyes. “This is at least our third date,” he replies, feeling he’s being conservative about what a ‘date’ can be considered when you live on opposite sides of the globe. It’s definitely been more than three.

“You’re wrong about that.”

He counts them out to her on his fingers. “COTA. Club. Right now.”

She matches his gesture. “First time we met. We were drunk. Right now. I mean, maybe if we count all the times we talk–”

“Chris.” Answer the fucking question.

“What?”

“Fine,” he concedes, even though he’s definitely right. “One date. Question still stands.”

She smiles, giggles to herself and if she would just give him an answer he could kiss her. “Yes,” she finally says, thumb on his chin. “I’ll have you all to myself, Charles Leclerc,” she whispers into his lips and beats him to the kissing punch.

He smiles out of it, “Already had me, Christyn Elliott.”

“Oh,” she pouts. “Well, then, maybe I'll have to reconsider,” a dumb smile pulls on her entire face, illuminating it in a childish way that he can only roll his eyes at. “Kidding,” she reassures with a hand on his chest. “Totally kidding.”

Happy pride month!! I love playing video games so I thought it'd be neat to share the many many games I've played with nonbinary and trans characters >:3

Extreme Meatpunks forever is so SO good omg. It's a VN/mech brawler where u be gay and fight fascists!!! Trans and nonbiney ppl are out here being badass af. The game has cws/tws built into the game ( which i love sm ) Also there's a ttrpg on Kickstarter RIGHT NOW!!

Another game with nonbinary characters is an rpg called Ikenfell! It was one of my favorite games to play last year and the music and just everything? Honestly so good I'm def replaying it this year. It also has tons of good accessibility features!

ok but i wanna geek abt ikenfell just a smidge more U DON'T UNDERSTAND 3 OF THE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS ARE NONBINARY <333 The strongest playable character also uses ze/zir pronouns and I think that's pretty epic

Ok so like literally every game I've played by @analgesicprod I've loved 100% And Anodyne 2? Everyone should go play it and I will keep saying it until everyone does. And yes there's a trans character in it <3 Drem my beloved <3 Go check it out!!

Another game studio I love is @pillowfightio !!! They worked on Later Alligator, We Know the Devil, and Heaven Will Be Mine. I highly recc all of them but esp. Later Alligator cuz like just look at Joanie. They're so cool.

In the game Everhood gender doesn't exist <3 Literally multiple characters are referred to with they/them pronouns and the gameplay is very enjoyable

CW LOTS of flashing lights and I feel like there should maybe be more cws but I'm not sure what else to add :l I guess a warning is that Everhood gets into more serious stuff and I'll be honest when the game first came out I had to put it down for several days b/c I just wasn't ready for a lot of that stuff, but I honestly liked the game a lot!

I was debating on adding this bc while I love this game there's some issues. So Gnosia is like werewolf ( or among us if you will ) but more narrative focused with time loops etc. There's two wonderful nonbinary characters and you can be nonbinary HOWEVER ( minor gnosia spoilers. skip past if you want to avoid it) . . . For some reason finding out the AGAB of one of the characters is mandatory and I fucking hate that. It's so unnecessary esp for the world building that's been done. Also tws for the game: sexual abuse / assault, gore ( in only one scene ) (spoilers end) but yeah I still added it because the characters are so neat and strong for the type of game it is and without that bit I wouldn’t feel so :/ abt recommending it. It’s pretty fun ngl

Wandersong!!! The main character is nonbiney and I love them <33 It's such a lovely little musical adventure with such a nice narrative and!! Some of the devs just released Chicory ( which I haven't gotten to play yet ;v; ) but check that out too!!

Bravery Network Online is super fun!! It's a turn based rpg that feels really good and has two characters that use they/them pronouns ( Fel and Reed ) the character designs are sooo good and the game is currently in early access!

I never thought I'd see a claymation point and click musical featuring a nonbinary detective but Dominique Pamplemousse is just that Need I say more?

A personal fav I think about every now and then is Dad fighter 30XX!! Like who doesn't wanna beat up their friend's shitty dad in the parking lot of a dennys?? Also the win music is my FAV

SPIRIT SWAP!!! By @SoftNotWeak !!!! Super chill and pretty game by lovely people with a demo you can play right NOW!! This game makes me want to become a strong magical thembo

a lot of ppl requested a ftm reader with the four lords so i tried to incorporate them all together here, i know everyone’s experiences are different and for people who are trans everyone is at different stages of transitioning so this may not be for everyone: to try and be as inclusive as possible the four lords talk about different areas of transitioning! You and Angie get on like a house on fire, causing mischief where you can and Donna can’t help but smile when she sees you both return from some adventure in the lycan den, covered in blood and chuckling. Donna and Angie couldn’t be happier to have you in their lives.

Donna loves you so much and is always there for you through your dysphoria. She’s always patient and will listen to you for hours while you get everything off your chest. She’ll sit with you and rub slow circles on you shoulder, an arm wrapped around you as she tells you how amazing and handsome you are.

If Donna so much as hears someone misgender you or provoke you, Angie is coming at them with a pair of scissors and a mini army of dolls behind her. Hearing those things about you makes her blood boil and it’s one of the few times she gets truly angry.

What you love about her is how she sees you for yourself and doesn’t define you for being trans but instead sees it as something that builds to someone who she already loves regardless.

Salvatore Moreau

Salvatore has the biggest heart when it comes to you. He understands what it feels like to be rejected and to feel like you don’t belong anywhere but he could never imagine what it’d feel like to be a stranger to your own body. That’s why he’s always thought you were so brave for being who you are, no matter how hard it can get sometimes.

He does a lot of research, trying to find ways that he can comfort you and support you. Of course as a physician he’s got some medical background and that’s why he’s never failed to support you through your medical transition, whether it’s hormones or surgery it’s something Sal can understand and wants to be there for you.

If you have scars, he loves them. He’s constantly complimenting your body and telling you just how perfect you are to him knowing that it helps with your dysphoria. If you don’t have scars it’s still the same, he’s still your biggest supporter and doesn’t love you any less.

You love taking walks together or doing activities on the lake like fishing or swimming. There’s been times when you’ve protected him from lycans and other creatures to which he always refers to you as his “knight”, a nickname which has stuck with you.

One thing Salvatore hates is when people are transphobic towards you. He hates to yell and get angry but he won’t hesitate to turn into a giant fish and spit venom back onto anyone who tried to do it to you. Maybe he loses his cool from time to time but you mean the world to him and you bring out his protective side.

Salvatore just wants to see you happy at all costs and he’ll do anything to make you feel more like yourself. Sometimes that involves running to the top of the hill behind the reservoir and announcing to all who’s near that you’re the man and that you’re the most amazing person. And sometimes it means you’re curled up on the couch in front of the television with a warm cup of hot chocolate in your hand and a cheese platter for you to share and cuddle up together afterwards.

Karl Heisenberg

Karl is super supportive and understanding when it comes to you being trans. He’s always chill and makes you feel comfortable but in his softer moments will make you feel loved beyond imagination.

He makes you armour, teaches you how to fight, lets you pick out weapons you like until you’re more skilled and cunning to defeat even him. He’s so proud of you and is always by your side through all your transitions.

The two of you often get up to a lot of mischief together, sneaking into Alcina’s castle for good wine or taking on the giants near House Beneviento. It’s a way for you to be care free and allows you to be who you are without judgment.

If he sees you’re feeling dysphoric about your scars, he won’t hesitate to show you the array of scars he’s obtained from the battlefield. He’ll tell you about how you should be proud of them; they show how far you’ve come and how much you’ve fought for who you are. Of course Karl will also boost your ego by telling you just how tough scars make you look.

You and Karl spend your nights working away on new designs for armour and weapons, welding long into the night and modifying the machinery on Strum. It ends up with you both passed out on the couch, covered in grime and sweat far too exhausted for a shower.

Alcina called it the behaviour of “man-things” and that you and Karl could at least make the effort to bathe but it ended up with you both bursting into laughter and getting right back to work, wearing your boyish behaviour with pride.

Regardless of the fun you had with Karl, he truly cared for you and understood what it was like to have bad days. That’s why he’s always been supportive and does his best to show you that he loves you no matter who you are.

hey there :) so what i came here to tell you is that i am ab-so-lute-ly amazed, blown away, on my knees. pussy fiend is SUCH A GOOD FIC!!!!! i can't even begin to comprehend this level of greatness – the character development, the pace, the relationships, the dialogues (the banter!!?????). when i prepared myself to read it i first thought: "ok, here goes another fuckboy!donghyuck fanfic". not that those are necessarily bad but i often find them to be quite cliché without working donghyuck into the role (not that we really know him like really but from what we can gather about his personality) so that he becomes 2 dimensional instead of a unique character. but you, god, it was so so beautiful to read your characterisation of him, his little quirks and his softness underneath that constant teasing. and the mct oo. they tend to be quite 2 dimensional too and i mean i get it, writing reader x … fics doesn't give you that much room to really explore or even develop the character because you don't want to exclude anyone so it's easy to fall back on well-tried clichés but you made her a real character, someone i could genuinely cheer for and wish the best.

i don't mean to diss other writers by the way, i mean for one i read those fics, secondly people don't become great writers (or great at anything) over night, things take practice and you have to start somewhere which is already a very brave thing (because i, unfortunately, am one of those people who are so afraid of failure they don't start anything new rather than being bad at it) and also you don't have to be good at something to enjoy doing it and last but not least obviously writing reader x … isn't an inherently bad thing, some of the best fics (yours included) are reader x … fics. just wanted to make that clear.

back to the topic (cause i'm not finished yet …) i also loved jeno so much?????!!!! his cluelessness is so sweet especially when in the end he is not that clueless after all, just super chill which is even more sweet. that's actually the one thing i would have to complain about because i wanted to see more of him. he could literally be the best side character i have ever read (at least right now i can't think of one i love more) and i reeeeaaally want him as my roommate!!!!! living with him would be so chill but also so fun, gaaah

Because I highly doubt that they will give solely happy edser and Kiraz in remaining episodes..

My full episode thoughts are here, but I agree the diary and video scene was spectacular. It makes me teary every time.

I’m also psyched that the truth is out. Truthfully, I was one that wanted Serkan to find out at the end of the first episode, but now I concede that it was better to draw it out a bit to really build everything up to this episode and his journey to letting go of his fears. What a character arc they gave him. They really explored Serkan and what drives him this episode and it was a treat-- a painful treat-- to watch it all unfold and for him to finally admit what had driven him to push her away all those years ago and what was still holding him back in the present.

As for what’s next, that’s a great question. I agree that it’s unlikely we’re going to get happy Edser family from here on out, there has to be some obstacles and drama before we get to the end. The Aydan custody drama will clearly be the conflict in episode 5, but I don’t see it as any real barrier for Eda and Serkan. We see in the second fragman that Eda is already confronting Serkan about it, so if Aydan is doing something underhanded they can’t draw it out too long.

I assume that while the custody thing may cause a wee bit of miscommunication between Eda and Serkan, I think it mostly will serve as fodder for Aydan and Ayfer’s relationship dynamic and give the supporting characters something to run around and chase after while Eda, Serkan and Kiraz actually start forming their new family unit. If anything it might serve as a catalyst for Serkan. Picture it, Eda confronts Serkan about it and Serkan is like “I don’t know anything about that, I wouldn’t do something that would hurt you or Kiraz, but I do want her, I want us.” You know, serve to clarify things.

There are probably a few episodes of family drama in store for us as everyone, including Eda, Serkan and Kiraz adjust to this new reality. I assume once the euphoria of having her Baba back wears off for Kiraz, she might ask some questions that are hard for Eda and Serkan to answer. We shall see.

I know! The communication! I don’t think they’ve ever communicated like this. Of course their issues were not as deep and nuanced back in the first batch of episodes so going this in-depth wasn’t necessary, but they didn’t communicate like this when dealing with Babaanne or when it was really needed after the amnesia era.

Honestly, so pleased the “can’t have kids” theory was correct. It goes so far in explaining his actions and thought process when pushing her away, as distorted as that thought process was. It truly was selfless, because I’m sure all he wanted was to hold her tight and never let go, but it was also so unnecessary. Their love story has just been so tragic, but if you think about how many things were stacked against them, it’s also stunning that their love has persevered. They were so opposite and unlikely to fall in love to begin with and then you add in all the things that stood in their way, meddling mothers, family secrets, Serkan’s father being responsible for her parents death, evil, rich, powerful grandmother using everything in her considerable arsenal to keep them apart, psycho stalkers, kidnapping princes, crashing planes, amnesia, brainwashing and abusive exes, plotting “friends,” tumor, cancer, separation!

To come out of all of that and to see they are clearly still in love with one another... well they really don’t have any other choice. They should get married immediately with no pomp and circumstance just so they are legally tied together. So when the next tragic, catastrophic thing comes along it will be that much harder to pull them apart.

I know, it’s all so mild. They also aren’t actually even third party love interests, because there is absolutely zero interest from either side of the main pair. Both are there to a) serve plot purposes and b) show that neither Eda or Serkan is interested in anybody else. It’s nice, we get to see that while they both have had options, neither has been able to move on and both have chosen to remain alone.

As for driving the plot, Burak’s presence was necessary because they needed someone who Serkan thought was Kiraz’s father, and Deniz was necessary because they needed someone who would do whatever Serkan wanted when Serkan wanted to force proximity with Eda.

Looking at the fragman, the real “triangle” might be Buba - Kiraz - Baba but I also think that will mostly be played for laughs. A way to give us some “Drain the pool” and “Burn the flowers” type jealousy moments from Serkan, since that was a hallmark of Ayse’s early writing.

However, I can see why some folks were put-off by that vibe. Because, yes, if you’ve been standing in as a male-figure for the 5-year-old daughter of the woman you’re tying to woo (let’s not pretend that’s not why Burak takes such an interest in Kiraz) and the father that the 5-year-old has been wanting and pining for actually re-enters the picture, maybe you don’t need to force your way in and have “Buba day” the day after he returns. I’m not saying you can’t have it ever again, I’m saying you let the family have some alone time and figure things out. Anyone with any emotional intelligence would postpone such an outing. However, it looks like Serkan is not put off so easily and we know he doesn’t lose, so it will probably lead to humorous scenes.

The good thing about this is that it shows that Serkan won’t sit passively by. Here Burak is giving him an out, Serkan can have his day back, go to work, he can slide into fatherhood slowly, but looks like Serkan is going to have none of that and is going to crash their fishing outing. How’s that for someone who said he wasn’t ready for fatherhood a mere 24-48 hours earlier?

Also it’s worth noting that Kiraz doesn’t see Burak as a father-figure, if she did she probably would have joined Ayfer and tried to get her mom to marry him. Instead she’s been almost obsessed with her father, talking about him, dreaming about him, wanting him and was very quick to correct when someone mistook Baba and Buba. Also she wanted Buba to meet her father. So Kiraz wanting to spend time with him isn’t a slight, in her mind he’s a friend, an uncle and with all the upheaval keeping their plans might feel safe to her. We’ll see.

Ahh... this post that was pinned. Thank you for the kind words, I also love that scene. I just love it because it’s such an EXTRA thing to do, putting on the astronaut costume and making an entrance like that, but both Serkan and Eda have always been so extra that it works for their little family.

I love that he made Kiraz’s dream come true in the most dramatic way possible. But beyond being dramatic, it was the perfect way to signal that no matter what fears or hang-ups Serkan had, he’s committed to getting over them and he’s ready to go all in on fatherhood. A perfect way to show not only Eda that he’s serious, but to show all their friends and family he’s serious. DO YOU HEAR THAT, AYFER? He’s back and he’s going to be her daddy, and there is nothing you can do about it!

LOL, I think this is a pretty popular sentiment among fans.

Personally, I need to see how badly Aydan is meddling in the next episode. If it’s fairly inept meddling that just causes some mild misunderstandings but also serves as a catalyst for an Edser conversation about the future, I probably won’t get too upset with her. However, if her meddling is more competent this time and she gets them into real trouble or causes real problems, then I’ll get annoyed with her. Although, I have to say if we need a few episodes of drama, I would rather this sort of controlled, family drama (meddling mamas causing a misunderstanding about custody) then, you know, other melodramatic things that certain other writing teams used to do... like kidnappings and obsessed stalkers.

As for Aydan, I can’t help it, even though I can never forgive her transgression in 29, I feel sorry that she lost out on so much of her granddaughter’s life. So if she wants to come in and cause headaches and drama for Ayfer (not Eda, Kiraz and Serkan... but Ayfer) then I have no problem with that. As far as I’m concerned those two can run around for the next few episodes playing cat and mouse while Eda/Serkan/Kiraz quietly form a family.

Honestly, I don’t think they want us to hate Aydan, because they give Aydan funny scenes and relationships outside of Serkan with Kemal and Seyfi and even Engin and Piril, but I have wondered if they want us to hate Ayfer. Because Ayfer doesn’t get any redeeming scenes. I mean we’re talking about a woman who managed to raise her orphaned niece and her niece never wanted for love and turned out to be a strong, smart, confidence, successful woman... sooooo she must be awesome, right!?! NOPE. I mean to take a character like that, who had to have been so instrumental in Eda not feeling lonely like Serkan did, but then make her so unlikeable... it has to be on purpose.

This happens in every fandom where the show keeps going and takes turns that some fans don’t like. My best advice is to not expect others to change or to stop watching or stop hate tweeting/posting, but to take steps to change your own experience so they don’t ruin it for you. I can’t tell you how many people I currently have muted on twitter. Lots. I don’t want to see the cynical, nasty tweets day in and day out about this show, the writers etc. Twitter has always been hard to take because so many people post their knee-jerk responses there and often choose to word vomit their first emotional response which for some people is mostly negative. That is true for every fandom, and has been true for this fandom since I started looking at responses there.

So to protect yourself, seek out people who are enjoying the show and post content that you want to see and mute, unfollow or even block those who make your experience worse.

You’ll never regret curating your experience.

Also I don’t really consider this fandom toxic. Sure there’s negativity about the storyline and internal drama about a variety of things, but after you’ve been though shipwars that get hella toxic and include fans trying to destroy actor’s careers and who attempt to use social justice issues to bully their fanon ships into existence on a constant day-after-day basis for years, this is nothing. This fandom is a daisy-lined, sunlight walk in the park in comparison.

The problem is not that Ayfer never liked Serkan, the problem is that Ayfer never care that Eda did like him. Ayfer can dislike him all she wants as long as she doesn’t interfere, but oh wait, she has interfered, time and time again. She’s used guilt and manipulation in attempts to control Eda at every turn, to the point, at times, of not caring that she was forcing Eda to sacrifice her career as well as her love.

It will be interesting to see Ayfer’s response when she realizes Eda is going to let Serkan into their lives. Will she double down on badmouthing Serkan and pressuring Eda not to get involved with him, or will she smarten up and back off? I think we know the answer to that.

You know, as I said above, I’m very curious about this. To be honest I didn’t really expect Eda and Serkan to be at this emotional place by the 4th episode. I mean they’re not totally ready to get back together, but they’ve both made it obvious that they still love one another, and that is kind of a big milestone in a romantic story.

Seriously, my assumption prior to the season was that we’d have these initial finding out episodes, and then Eda and Serkan would still be sort of outwardly pretending that they didn’t want to get back together, or still angry at one another, but then they’d be forced together by Kiraz. You know there’d be some parent trapping, and a handcuff episodes and then Kiraz would manipulate them into living together and we’d get all sorts of domestic sexual tension scenes. Now these things may still happen to some degree, but Edser is starting from a very different outward emotional place than I thought they would be. I assumed we’d get another 4-5 episodes of slow burn, forced proximity before they admitted things and got engaged. But now it feels like their feelings are out in the open and they could decide to get married at any moment.

So we’ll have to see how the writer’s decide to chart their emotional journey over the remaining episodes. One thing I’m sure of, there are some wonderful scenes coming our way.

Oh, yes, as I said here in my episode thoughts, the Engin/Serkan scene is the one that really started me crying on first watch. Anil was really fantastic in that scene and it made me realize how sorely I had missed Serkan/Engin as male best friends who actually talk about their emotions. Where was that guy when Serkan was being brainwashed and manipulated by Selin!?! Oh yeah he was in the hands of inept writers.

Glad the real Engin is back!

While anything is possible, I don’t see a reoccurrence of his tumor happening because they had a scene where the doctor said he was in perfect health and that since it had been five years he now had the same chance of occurrence as an ordinary person. However, I suppose it’s not impossible that they give him some sort of scare so that he can prove he’s changed and that they won’t abandon his family if that sort of adversity comes again.

Honestly, if I was Eda, I would make him go to therapy as a condition of them getting back together. Make sure he develops some coping skills for the long haul.

So I’ve been hearing about slander (through social media/real life) on all our zodiac signs and it’s been irritating me because there are. 7 billion people on planet earth and we have mfs out here ranking signs and judging people’s signs when they really never met all 7billion people to come up with that conclusion abt all the signs. There are good and there are Bad people, but there are no bad signs. Every one of you have something good to offer, and I believe that hating on all air/earth/water/fire signs for something 1-30 ppl did out of 1.75 billion ppl of each element is wrong. You know who you are and you should stop the judgement bc ppl can’t control their birthday. No one deserves hate and and no signs should be glorified than the other. i tried to be productive this morning but i dont think my brain will let me until i do this, so sam and bucky show episode 4 letS GO

i would like to preface this post by saying that I literally got spoilers (before i watched the episode) from liTERALLY EVERYTHING from youtube to gOOGLE CHROME when i was trying to read the nEWS so in order to avoid spoiling it for anyone that hasnt seen it, STOP READING because this episode is inSANE and you don’t want it ruined for you.

Okay with that being said, let’s get started.

1. the first scene in wakanda absolutely deSTROYED ME. ayo helping bucky clear the winter soldier programming from his mind and then the silent shift of emotions on his face as the flashbacks happened and then when he realized he was free was just-- KDSFKSD the aCTING WAS SO GOOD thank you mr sebastian stan

2. bucky telling ayo that Zemo was a means to an end, especially in Wakandan, gave me chills bc it’s a direct parallel of Zemo telling Bucky that he was a means to an end. this show is just so carefully crafted omg

3. karli morgenthau got so much more screentime and development in this episode and i am hERE FOR IT. it’s really intriguing to get a deeper look into the Flag Smasher’s motivations and see a more personal side of their cause as well, especially in the memorial scene.

4. can we just take a moment. we need to take a moment. to just appreciate sam. hIS DIALOGUE IN THIS EPISODE. actually, in the whole show, but eSPECially in this episode just absolutely POPPED OFF. after this episode, I’m fully convinced that sam is 100% without a doubt the best character in this show. whoever wrote his lines is a genius. i love the scene where he talks to Karli, and I hope that they can have another chance to talk without *couGH* jOhn waLKER *coUGH* butting his head in because that conversation was just amazing. i loved how they discussed things they had in common, and a mutual understanding and how sam said “i agree with your fight, but not the way you’re fighting it.” this line was so good. and literally every other part of that conversation. the entire plot would have fallen to shambles by now if it wasn’t for sam so let’s give this man a round of applause please.

5. while we’re talking about sam, I might as well mention that i was very happy to see him in the falcon suit/wings again. he didn’t fly in episode 3 and i missed the action scenes with the wings. i think I gotta give Sam the most creativity points for the fight scenes in this show because he can fight both in the air and on the ground with a set of wings and weaponize them either way and that’s really cool

6. the dora milaje. I LOVE THEM. omg. i was so happy to see Ayo at the end of episode 3 and they just aSSERTED DOMINANCE in this episode and i loved it. their fighting style and weapons and clothing/armor design is just so elegant and mesmerizing to watch. “the dora milaje have jurisdiction wherever the dora milaje find themselves to be” omg. they took no crap from john walker and it was sO SATISFYING

7. on that note, watching walker get his butt kicked by the Dora Milaje while sam, bucky, and zemo just stood there was hilarious and probably one of my favorite scenes in this entire show so far.

8. WHEN AYO DISARMED BUCKY’s VIBRANIUM ARM. OMG. bucky was *surprised pikachu face* and so was I. I really, really hope they run into the wakandans again because there’s definitely a broken trust between them and i want that relationship to be more fully fleshed out and brought to closure too

9. there’s no way i’m making this list without talking about zemo singing to the kids and giving them candy at the beginning of the episode. that kinda gave me “creepy guy who kidnaps kids at the park” kinda vibes but it was also hilarious since Zemo was the only one making any progress on getting info in that scene xd

11. BUCKY WITH A KNIFE. when he caught the knife askdjfk i’ve been waiting for a bucky knife fight this enTIRE SHOW and i finally got it and me very happy : >>>> (i’m determined to learn how he does the flippy trick w the pocketknife in Winter Soldier)

12. when Karli called Sarah Wilson i got chills. first of all sarah is an absolute fearless qUEEN but also the fact that Karli threatened Sam’s nephews akdfjaksdj pls dont hurt them Marvel

13. the parallel discussions between Zemo and Sam, Lemar and Walker about taking the super soldier serum were really neat. they both hark back to the conversation between Steve Rogers and Dr. Erskine in First Avenger, and i think that was the key turning point in revealing/completely clarifying both Sam and Walker’s true colors, which will now directly contradict each other for the rest of the show.

14. people say that sam is the character who always tries to reason things out until he has absolutely no options left. i think that really shows through in this episode, and it’s also a good reference point/marker of the other characters’ development. Sam’s determination to talk things through with Karli actually brought them closer together (until sOMEONE decided to intervene coUGH) but his equal determination to keep peace/negotiate with Walker only drove them further apart, which makes me feel that even though karli and the flag smashers are the “villains” in this story, they are definitely not the antagonists (that would be walker, who’s directly trying to work against Sam and Bucky, the protagonists)

15. bucky’s “i know crazy when i see it cuz i am crazy” sent me LOL

16. when lemar died i think everyone just went 0 _ 0. i don’t think Karli intended to kill him when she kicked him into that wall, judging by the way they all ran off after they realized he was dead. tbh i’ve been netural towards lemar this entire time, tho i do appreciate his more pacifist attitude to walker’s explosive impulsiveness. he’s sort of like sam to bucky. but his death really felt like an accidental cross-fire casualty that cause walker to reach his breaking point

17. and lastly the scene with the bloody shield. 0 _ 0. the whole world was watching indeed

alright that’s it for this week. i can’t believe there’s only two episodes left 0 _ 0. to be honest, from our current point of view as fans i feel like this show needs another season, maybe 2. the reason being, I can’t really see a space that Sam and Bucky would fit into in the future of the MCU. Sam, maybe, if he resolves the deal with the Captain America mantle at the end of this show, but I feel like Bucky’s end goal is just to like, retire lmao. but also, the future of the MCU is gonna be really focused on like the more magicky characters like Wanda, Loki and Doctor Strange, and ofc Spiderman, Thor/Guardians and Captain Marvel, and then ppl are saying something abt the young avengers or something. But yeah, as near as i can figure this show seems like it should bring closure for Bucky at least, except i have no clue how they’re going to wrap all this stuff up in 2 episodes. in addition to the mess with Zemo and Walker and Sharon’s whole deal in Madripoor, I hope they also get back to America to bring their issues there full circle, like Bucky’s issue with Nakajima, Sam’s family and their home, and Isaiah Bradley. guess we’ll see, can’t wait for next week already ahhhh

!!! I was just thinkin abt tht!!! our minds 💫

I think th first time he rly sees Adam stimming (i.e. flapping his hands) he’d be like “what’s that?” but not in a rude way - genuinely a tone of “I want 2 know more abt this thing, pls tell me” rather than anything anywhere near condescending/annoyed/mean-spirited like Adam has dealt w fr YEARS at this point. so he’s definitely put on edge a lil bit bc he can’t help it, maybe he starts to like wind down and force himself into quiet hands, but Lawrence is immediately like “no I wasn’t making fun of you!! u don’t have to stop doing it!” which kinda stops Adam short like. what r we doing here. usually when ppl ask me tht they’re also telling me 2 stop. finally Lawrence says “I was just wondering what kind of stim tht was,” like he didn’t almost (accidentally) uproot Adam’s whole shit + is currently Doing So Now by using actual terms tht Adam didn’t know he knew, n so he like takes a moment to absorb tht comment n then he’s like. “oh. it means I’m happy or excited?” and honestly? when Lawrence hears tht? he’s like “oh... so then you’re rly happy? 🥺” n it’s just like. a moment fr both of them lol. (Adam feels Much safer discussing things after tht too, in several ways. it definitely helps w building trust between them!!)

after that though Lawrence definitely takes notice of more things! he’s not afraid 2 ask questions, so tht’s smth tht’s rly good fr them - Lawrence being able to seek information (he also does his own reading + research) to better understand, n not in tht shitty mommy blogger “I know yr in there somewhere” way. he doesn’t want 2 change Adam. he wants a better grasp on wht Adam’s experiences r like so he can help n minimize stress abt certain things. fr Adam tht’s definitely like.. foreign territory, bc as u’ve mentioned b4 + my personal hc as well, his parents didn’t really care 2 get him formally diagnosed + even acted like there was No Way he cld be neurodivergent in any sense, so 2 have some1 who is interested n respectful is So important 2 him. (personal hc time: I hc Adam as both adhd AND autistic like me so there’s tht!!)

so like he takes notice of th way Adam likes 2 roll things btwn his fingers (shirt sleeves, shirt hems, hoodie drawstrings, blankets, soft fabrics he likes the texture of, etc.) n is just like Oh Idea. I like 2 think he gets Adam one of those bead lanyards (like this one, which I also have!) fr him to fidget w n he kind of presents it like “I thought maybe u wld like smth like this?” n honestly he’s a lil nervous abt what Adam is going 2 say. but Adam takes it n holds it fr a minute, rolling th beads n messing w th lanyard itself 2 kind of test it, n he just looks up n smiles n he’s like “I love this. u’ve been paying tht much attention??” n fr Lawrence it’s just like “yes? of course? bc I love u?” like it’s th simplest thing in th world n Adam’s just. Huh. no he does Not tear up, if Lawrence told u tht he’s lying. he’s just Rly not used 2 ppl who want 2 know more without wanting to “get inside his head” or belittle him fr it (ties into my hc tht fr th most part, Adam hasn’t rly had any Good friends...) so it takes a lil getting used to.

another thing!! Lawrence does is ask 2 listen 2 Adam infodump abt his special interests - esp photography!! like they do this thing where if it’s not too late at night by th time Lawrence comes home frm work, Lawrence will take a quick shower n then get into his pajamas n into bed (just fr some quiet quality time b4 they go to bed, bc he still tends 2 come home a bit late), n he’ll have Adam sit next 2 him n he’ll be like “what do u want to tell me?” bc tht’s another thing tht Adam was entirely unused 2 - having ppl who didn’t just tolerate his infodumping, they wanted to hear it. Lawrence might be th first person to not actually give him shit fr it/tell him he’s being annoying/shut him down completely. again, it takes Adam a lil bit to b fully comfortable w it, but once he is he adores having tht time to be excited abt things w another person! who he knows Wants to listen!! (if we’re going th route I personally like 2 think abt sometimes too, where Lawrence is autistic as well, I feel like they infodump back n forth abt photography n medical stuff. do either of them rly know what the other is saying? not rly. are they listening happily bc that’s their partner n it’s smth they’re excited abt? oh absolutely!)

I think Adam has a tendency to eat a lot of th same foods bc they’re safe n he knows he likes them/doesn’t mind their texture (which is a big issue w trying new foods fr him), which is smth tht Lawrence also takes note of and as such, he likes 2 make sure they’re regularly stocked up on at least some of tht stuff. it’s not even smth he tells Adam he’s doing, bc it’s rly tht simple 2 him - Adam likes these things n therefore we shld have them at th house - but fr Adam it’s just One Of Those Things, y’know?? he got so much shit as a kid fr being such a “picky eater” n got shit fr it as a teenager too bc “why don’t u ever try anything new??” was smth his friends/parents Loved 2 say. it’s th fact tht Lawrence rolls w it so easily, doesn’t poke or prod for reasons he eats th way he does, and doesn’t get upset w him fr it/try 2 force him into things he isn’t comfortable w. it means a lot to him, more than he’ll ever have words 2 say (but he does always kiss Lawrence’s cheek when he gets back frm th store n he sees some of his same foods, which is just as good). it’s loving tht he’s autistic because it’s a part of him, a fact, not despite or in spite of. tht’s what’s so nice n kind of healing abt it; feeling safe 2 express yrself as u are w a partner who u know u can trust. who maybe words questions a bit funny sometimes, completely unintentionally, not out of malice (where allistic Lawrence is concerned, anyway). Adam feels Safe, n tht means a lot 2 him.

as fr ways he helps him!! a big thing is tht Lawrence is observant, esp as they spend more n more time together. a lot of th time, even when it’s just th two of them alone, Adam might have trouble maintaining eye contact fr an extended period of time, n Lawrence might not know how much it Actually helps, but he doesn’t mind tht Adam doesn’t always look at his face when they’re talking. it’s smth tht takes a little getting used 2, but he was never shitty about it w Adam. the way he sees it is if it makes Adam more comfortable, why shld he get upset abt it? it’s not like he doesn’t know when Adam’s talking 2 him anyway, or tht he can’t tell if Adam is listening; Lawrence knows both of those things, so Adam not making eye contact isn’t a problem, y’know? it’s okay. n I rly don’t know if Lawrence is fully aware of how much Adam appreciates tht.

another thing is he’s patient + understanding when Adam is nonverbal, whether it be bc he’s having a shutdown/meltdown, sensory overload, or just plain Difficulty w speech. it kinda depends on what I’m writing at th time, but I feel like Adam might have picked up at least a lil bit of sign language here n there; mostly simple phrases tht get th point across. I like 2 think Lawrence learns what they mean so he can take tht stress off of Adam’s shoulders, but most times, Adam is just comfortable sitting in silence w someone he cares abt.

OH brief thing Lawrence is RLY good at helping w pressure stims. he gives amazing bear hugs n I feel like he’d also probably let Adam lay on him if they’re on th couch/in bed. I just Feel It.

OHH I think abt Eric finally developing a special interest now tht he feels more comfortable w doing so a lot. honestly I kind of rly like th idea tht his special interest might be info abt rats! it kind of hits him when he catches himself writing down lil facts (tht might not even be related to pet care!) in his notebook so he’ll remember them + always being excited 2 learn more n share what he’s learned. it makes Adam SO happy to see him being comfortable w tht aspect of himself, esp now that he’s safe to explore it w ppl who understand n who won’t discourage him/belittle him for it,, Mallick too of course, but Adam knows how much Eric struggled w tht kind of thing for such a long time so he’s just. Ah. 🥺🥺

like they’ll all b chilling on th couch (Eric, Mallick, n Adam) n Eric will have his head against Adam’s shoulder while his hand is on Mallick’s chest, who has HIS head in Eric’s lap w his legs dangling off th armrest, n he’ll be like “did u know tht when rats r happy, they grind their teeth together? it’s called bruxing n then sometimes their eyes move in their sockets rly fast while they’re doing it. tht’s called boggling.” n Adam will be smiling so wide when he says he didn’t know tht but it’s rly cool!! n then Mallick will start asking questions n he n Adam just listen while Eric infodumps fr probably th very first time since he was very very young, before it was masked out of him by his parents. n he finds tht he Doesn’t feel so bad abt it anymore, not when he’s around ppl who want him to be happy and want to see him be happy - esp ppl who encourage it n let him know it isn’t smth he has to hide/keep locked away. it’s hard 2 b ashamed of himself when Adam n Mallick r looking at him w genuine interest in their eyes n so so much love.

he might still like, slip back into masking behaviour every now n then, bc it’s something he’s still dealing w n learning 2 leave behind, but after he discovers his first special interest it gets a little easier, letting go of that way of life. it was smth he was forced into by adults who didn’t actually want th best for him like they said they did when they put him through “therapy,” but w partners he knows understand n who are even autistic themselves, Eric slowly learns 2 be more comfortable w it. it’s slow, but it’s progress. bit of a learning curve. he’ll get there.
