2. A memory of their father
memories. (still accepting)
(also asked by @redmessenger)
Your father expects much of you.
Which honestly seems like a stretch—really, expecting something from you? The boy who naps all day and refuses to do anything more than strictly necessary? It was an overestimation at best, and foolishness at worst—he is the Minister of Domestic Affairs, after all.
And you are to take up that title. You don’t have any siblings to pass it onto either—there is just you and your crest and the responsibility that awaits you as Count. There are nights sometimes where your sleep is delayed—or worse yet, never comes—because you are next. You have to be next.
Those days, you sleep in more, nap more frequently than you already do. It means groggier wake-ups, missed meals, and whispers about the estate.
‘He’s supposed to be the next Count?’
‘Why can’t they just produce a different heir?’
Admittedly, that scares you also. Your father is absent enough, but to lose more time with him to a sibling (to be replaced for not meeting expectations)–
It weighs down on you, at times. You try not to think about it.
Sometimes, you wonder what it would be like to be the younger sibling, free from your future and blissfully in the present. Caspar is like that, in a way. The younger son and bullheadedly so. It meant that oftentimes he’d get injured for the most foolish reasons, and yet– And yet…
You were always there—or at least, you tried to be. You were pretty good at faith magic, and you’d use that to help—make sure things were okay. Even if it meant ignoring the lightheadedness that came with even the sight of blood– That was your determination, and it seemed you weren’t half bad.
Your father expects much of you. Perhaps you might meet those expectations someday.
