"I think I'd have to say that it's the bryndons that the castle kitchen makes! They don't make them too often, but I love them!
As for fruit, sometimes we get strawberries here, and those aren't bad! Fruit is a bit of a luxury, though, so I don't get to eat it often!"
#// mun researched medieval dessert recipes for this#// mun now wants to try making a bryndon#// i found a recipe in middle english eeeee#// SO making that when i get a chance#// thank you for the chance to research a medieval topic i dont get to look at much ;-;#// also i know the show is in the 12th century and the bryndon recipe you can find online is from a 15th cent cookbook#// but i saw sources that said they were around as far back as the 12th cent and while i cant say for sure since i didnt do in depth looks#// (i didnt have time to today ;-;)#// so im gonna let the ambiguity of the dates of this pastry slide#// because it sounds awesome#// theres spices and wine and honey involved and maybe im just hungry#// also did get to look ag what fruits were around in medieval times and picked the first two normal ones lol#// figs didnt read quite right for douxie#// then again neither did strawberries#// but nobility got fruit more than peasants did and peasants often got stuck with dried or preserved fruits#// ALSO no one ate fruit raw it was always cooked bc raw fruits and veggies were believed to cause disease#// i went back and forth on douxie liking strawberries but it was the most accessible fruit for non nobility so thats the one i went with#// sorry i really love the medieval period 😅😅#// edit: i had originally put two fruits#// sorry for the confusing tag#// switched to just strawberries for all the reasons listed above
