(also no determined time set for this, my canon now)
------------
“Da-ge?” Nie Huaisang hummed, “Did you really run out of the room because Lan Xichen made you blush?”
Nie Mingjue choked on the liquor he had accidentally brought with him in his rush.
“What are you on about, A-Sang?” He huffed out, leaning down to set the cup on the low table, “I needed some air. Those minor sect leaders always make the room stuffy.”
“Hmm?” Huaisang had a childish smile on his face while he shuffled around the room to get in front of him, fan splayed and batting, “Was it really them this time? Or was it that flirting you were doing with the Lan Sect Leader?”
“We weren’t flirting.”
“Uh-huh.”
“We weren’t!”
“He was all over you!” Huaisang said, smile somehow getting wider, “The Lans aren’t known for being so touchy, not Zewu-Jun.” Nie Mingjue blinked at that.
Lan Xichen has . . . always been a bit clingy when it came to him. In the sense that he hung close with a hand hovering near his arm.
“Maybe he accidentally had a cup of liquor,” Mingjue replied almost defensively, “The Lans aren’t known for being able to hold their liquor either.”
Earlier, despite the two standing, Lan Xichen had been leaning against him with a loose grip on his wrist. That wasn’t odd to him, at least. When Xichen visited Qinghe, especially late at night, he would cling onto Mingjue just the same.
“Lan Xichen was not drunk,” Huaisang shot back, “You of all people should know what hes like drunk.”
“I honestly don’t.”
“Have you seriously never had a drink with him?” Huaisang shut the fan he held and sat down at the table, “Not even once?”
“Nope,” Mingjue looked towards the doors of the room as if he were somehow nervous, adjusting the ties around his forearms, “He’s seen me drunk, but not the other way around.”
Nie Huaisang snorted, “Well anyways,” He paused, “What exactly did he say that was the last straw for you, Da-ge?”
“Should’ve been listening,” Mingjue retorted, finally moving to sit down as well, “. . . I should’ve brought the bottle with me, too.”
“You should finally say something to Lan Xichen.”
Nie Mingjue glanced at Huaisang with a furrow in his brow.
“Why are you suddenly so interested, huh?”
“I’ve been interested for what, ten years now?!” Huaisang scoffed, waving his closed fan in disbelief, “I’m not as oblivious as you are--”
“I beg to differ--”
“Beg, but asides from that,” Mingjue grunted in amusement at that response, “You’ve been ogling Lan Xichen ever since you were sent to Gusu, and if you aren’t annoying me with studying you’re talking or asking about him constantly-- how is my interest so sudden?” Mingjue scoffed, echoing ‘ogling’ in disbelief, before his brows furrowed deeper.
“I’m not talking about him constantly.”
“Yes you are!” Huaisang said, but before he could continue, there was a gentle knock on the door.
Nie Mingjue practically flinched in his seat as the two looked towards it at the same time.
“Come in,” Nie Mingjue huffed. He needed something more to drink.
“Oh,” It was Lan Xichen, “If you’re busy I can come back later--”
“No, no!” Huaisang shot up from his seat, “I’ll leave, I have a poor fiance to tend to anyways.” Nie Mingjues jaw clenched and he looked over at Huaisang with wide eyes. His little brother only opened his fan to grin behind as he hurried out, moving past Lan Xichen just as quickly.
“Oh,” Lan Xichen said again, though much softer. He cautiously walked into the room and slid the door shut behind him, a light red flush covering his face-- something that was easily missed.
Was he drunk?
“I wanted to apologize, Da-ge,” Lan Xichen hummed, walking over to the table, “I think I said something wrong earlier. I didn’t mean to offend you.”
Then, what he had said before hit Mingjue immediately.
‘It almost feels like we’re wedded with how often we share clothes!’
“Fuck.”
“Huh?”
