Unseen Varia: Lorenzo Rodriguez
Name: Lorenzo RodriguezNickname: Lor, PumaAge: 18Flametype: Storm, minor seconday cloudWeapon of choice: 2 Kuhkri knives, great AxeAffiliation: Varia Storm DivisionPosition: Second in Comand. Squad 4 Leader
Lorenzo is a rather difficult individual to get along with. He is usually stressed and highly agressive when in the Varia environment, easily annoyed and quickly to lash out, however this comes from extreme stress put on him by Belphegor to keep him in line. When out of the situation and with less stress he mellows out, becomes a lot more calm and collected, teasing and a smartass. He is highly intelligent and adaptive, very flexible in both combat and with strategies, and a natural leader. He uses Ava as his sort of personal punching bag in the sense that he likes to rile him up so it turns into an argument or sparring fight through which he can let off some steam and lower his stress level. In truth he deeply appreciates and respects Ava, trusting him fully. Many believe that if it weren’t for Bels manipulation to keep Lorenzo constantly under high stress, he would be able to dethrone him and become the storm officer.
Additional Trivia:
* Even if he won’t admit it for a LONG time, he is in love with Ava and constantly switches shifts with other storm members to be on mission with Ava. They work great together in combat and Avas usually cheerful and calm demeaner is a respite for Lorenzo.* He is highly proficient with a lot of different weapons which makes him a very tough opponent to fight.* He is also the only one that at some point unlockes the ability to go into Hyper Dying Will mode without any suplements* When it comes to perception he is far more aware of peoples feelings and troubles than he lets on. He just usually doesn’t really care.* In one Future Arc Bad End, as the entire Varia is beying destroyed and Sergey, Leo and Ava have already been killed, Lorenzo is approached by Byakuran (??) and offered a position as a (fake) funeral wreath if he then and there betrays and abandons the Varia. He declines and gets killed afterwards.* Lorenzo is actually very ambitious and it’s his goal to one day become a feared mafiosi in high rank without anyone elses help, which is why rather stubbornly he doesn’t fight against what Bel puts him through but believes he should push through it.* Originally Lorenzo stemmed from a rather noble family, before he ran away, and he does still very clearly retain skills like ballroom dancing, playing the violin and all sorts of high societal manners.

the gang fights: an analysis of fighting styles, in order of least to most invested in the outcome
1. Charlie
Charlie is the most frequently underestimated fighter in the Gang. His opponents are often misled by his stature—his low center of gravity is actually an asset during physical brawls. His unpredictable limb movements also work to his advantage. In general, Charlie benefits from his high constitution and stamina, while his weaknesses result from a lack of strategy. At any point in a fight, he may lose control of his cognitive faculties, entering a fugue state during which primal rage takes over. His unpredictability has a significant psychological impact on his opponents, but it also means he can be sloppy.
Compared to the rest of the Gang, Charlie gets into an above-average amount of fights. Mac will often be fighting alongside him or will have caused the fight in some way before making a run for it. Charlie often sees fights through to the end, as he can take a large amount of physical damage, and psychological damage is unlikely to deter him. He rarely wins his fights, but his opponents do not leave unscathed. Charlie rarely faces the same opponent twice.
The likelihood that Charlie will bite his opponent is high. However, the perceived likelihood that he will bite is higher. His potential opponents’ impression that he will not hesitate to use teeth affects the fight’s outcome more significantly than the biting itself. This impression is how Charlie most often manages to avoid fights.
Charlie doesn’t like fighting. It’s not fun, and he feels very little investment in the outcome of his fights. No matter the outcome, he tends to wake up from a fugue state with little memory of the event. He sustains a great deal of injuries from both wins and losses, but he bounces back quickly. The outcome of the fight also has a negligible impact on his psychological state.
2. Frank
Frank has a gun.
3. Dennis
Dennis’s fighting style relies on his speed and agility. His stamina is extremely low, however, and he will forfeit the fastest out of anyone in the Gang. He will ultimately protect the face and head at all costs. Like Frank, he would sooner employ the use of tools in a fight than use his bare hands.
Dennis believes himself to be above physical brawling and more suited to psychological warfare. He’s not very good at either, but he definitely can’t fight and avoids it when he can. Naturally, if he were to initiate a fight, he would have a high level of emotional investment in the outcome, and his ego would be at stake—a loss would mean irreparable emotional damage, and a loss is virtually guaranteed. But there are few circumstances in which he would initiate a fight. So if he’s in a fight, chances are that someone else is pissed at him, and whatever it’s about, the other person is probably wrong, so even if he loses physically, he will consider it a spiritual victory. Losing is embarrassing, though. The size and composition of the audience will drastically affect his investment in the fight.
4. Mac
Mac’s fighting style is mainly elbows and knees. This applies to both his offensive and defensive techniques. He tends to hide behind his hands or curl up into a ball like an armadillo when he’s getting pummeled. He has no qualms about fighting dirty but will become incensed if his opponent deceives him in any way. He primarily protects the stomach. When he has Charlie as an ally, Mac gets a substantial confidence boost.
Unlike Dennis, Mac gets into many fights, but like Dennis, Mac does not tend to be the instigator of his fights. This is partly because Mac is adept at assessing his opponents. He may have an inflated sense of his own ability to fight in his day-to-day life, but on an instinctual level he can quickly deduce if his opponent is stronger than him and make a speedy exit. Alternatively, if he encounters a significantly weaker opponent, he will not hold back. These cases are rare.
Mac’s emotional investment in his performance in a fight is extremely high. This investment exists despite, or perhaps because of, his inability to fight. Most of his technique comes into play before the physical fighting happens: puffing up his chest, taking a wide stance, etc. When these techniques fail, he knows to expect a loss, but that doesn’t lessen the hurt of the loss. Similarly to Dennis, the impact of a fight’s outcome on his psyche depends to some degree on the crowd, but he will also take a self-esteem hit even if no one is there to witness it. Luckily, he bounces back fast, mainly by lying about the outcome to both himself and others.
5. Dee
Dee possesses a unique combination of spite and stamina that makes her one of Gang’s most effective fighters. While other members of the Gang either lack the motive or skill to win a fight, Dee has both these qualities. Dee is a strategic fighter, even in the throes of rage. She’s in okay shape, but she’s not protective of any particular body part and can take lots of physical damage. She is extremely susceptible to psychological damage, however.
Like Dennis, Dee would like to think that she’s above physical brawling. She is wrong, though. All it takes is a few beers. In truth, Dee spends the most time fantasizing about getting into a fight out of all of the Gang. She expels most of her rage through verbal sparring, but when given the opportunity, she has no qualms about engaging her opponent physically. These opportunities are rare, but when they come up, Dee will channel at least three months’ worth of spite into her blows.
Dee’s high level of involvement in a fight’s outcome has little to do with the presence of an audience. She doesn’t enter a fugue state like Charlie, but she develops tunnel vision during a fight that has a similar effect, though on a smaller scale. Dee very much feels that she has something to prove, but not to any particular person. A win against any individual opponent is a win against anyone who has ever wronged her.
In summary:
The Gang as a whole has incurred more losses than wins, as Charlie and Mac getting beat up in high school makes up most of the Gang’s total number of fights. In recent years, though, their record has improved. The Gang has learned to pick fights with weaker opponents (ex. Charlie and Mac taking on a group of middle schoolers). They also avoid 1-v-1, hand-to-hand combat and stick to their strengths, like arson.
I hope this was helpful

No-Ah Grand Elders: Ev-En, Elder of Earth (Pathfinder 1st edition Quasi-Deity)
The No-Ah hierarchy is, at it's core, a bureaucratic gerontocracy; where age and station dictate the hierarchy. As such the eldest members of each elemental caste of No-Ah, the Grand Elders, serve as the oligarchs of their people. As proof of their authority, No-Ah who live long enough to ascend to grand elder status go up one size category (no larger than huge), gain the mythic subtype, and become quasi-deific. Their granted domains are Artifice, their racial elemental subtype, and two others of their choice. Their subdomains must be Construct, at least one from their elemental domain, and three others. A Grand Elder is always character level 20 and gains the Advanced simple template. Additionally, a Grand Elder gains “Restore Vitality” as a bonus mythic ability (see below). Only when a Grand Elder dies, or more rarely, when a No-Ah of a new elemental type is born does a No-Ah ascend in this manner.
Ev-En, Elder of Earth LN 3rd No-Ah Grand Elder of Earth, Duty, and Sacrifice Domains Artifice, Earth, Law, Nobility Subdomains Caves, Construct, Judgement, Martyr, Toil Worshipers architects, earth no-ah, miners, soldiers, subterranean races. Minions earth elementals, earth no-ah Symbol a downward pointing triangle bisected by a horizontal line Favored Weapon spiked gauntlet or hook hand Obedience hold your left appendage over your heart (or an equivalent) and make an oath out loud to your self to carry out any task set before you, to the best of your ability, by someone who has legitimate authority over you. You must be willing to do anything within your power, even at the risk of personal injury or death, to see those tasks carried out. You gain a +4 luck bonus to any skill check which helps you accomplish such tasks. Boons 1: stone shape 2/day; 2: summon nature's ally II (small earth elemental) 2/day; 3: wall of stone 2/day Predecessors Ev-Ot > Ev-Ri > Ev-En
It is an understanding among the No-Ah that in order to create and preserve anything, something else must be sacrificed, thus one who gives up themselves for the greater good is the most blessed of beings. Few know this truth better than Grand Elder Ev-En. His birth was one of grim necessity. The Qlippoth Lord, Isph-Aun-Vuln, had galvanized her most powerful alien cults to war against the No-Ah with the intent of undermining their mission to preserve and nurture mortal life. Ev-En was among the many No-Ah who were produced en-mass by the Grand Elders to hold a line against her relentless and ruthless armies, a task which required the destruction of planets that could have been converted into bountiful new worlds. He had to kill many beautiful and vibrant lifeforms, tainted by the qlippoth's lies, and watch those same creatures brutally slaughter his siblings and cousins by the thousands. He would give much of himself to help ensure victories for the No-Ah with as little bloodshed on either side as he possibly could, inevitable as it was. To this end, he learned to fight unarmed, bolstered by abjuration magic. This training would prove useful when Ark-00 became assaulted by the Iathavos and it's nyogoth hordes. This Iathavos was trained especially to deal with the No-Ah and proved formidable even for the Grand Elders. Ev-En was among the No-Ah soldiers who fought alongside his parent, Ev-Ri, when the qlippoth singled them out. It was here that Ev-En talents showed their true worth, as he purged the flanking nyogoth of their corruption and turned the tables in the No-Ah's favor. Sadly, the Iathavos proved to much for Ev-Ri and he was thus slain. Ev-En, the eldest of the living Earth No-Ah, immediately ascended and in a fit of righteous fury; felled the qlippoth with a single devastating punch. Channeling his power in this fashion however, would obliterate his right-arm, an eternal reminder of the costs of the No-Ah mission. Though the No-Ah would ultimately prevail and disperse Isph-Aun-Vuln's mortal armies. Ev-En knows that it is only a matter of time before she rallies her forces again. Thus much of his time in recent history has been spent fortifying the now billions of No-Ah Arks and bolstering his people's military power, all in preparation for the inevitable war which will no doubt span entire galaxies.

I realize most npc stat blocks usually only have the spells listed that the character is most likely to have prepared, but I have no way of narrowing that down, so I recommend just using him like a spontaneous caster and only bothering to decide his prepared spells when the players need that information.
Edit: I forgot some bits.

{ Shimazu Toyohisa TV Tropes }
Absurdly Sharp Blade: His nodachi and wakizashi.
Anti-Hero: The Unscrupulous Hero. He revels in battle and is a Blood Knight, but he's an honorable person and is genuinely willing to help the elves, unlike Nobunaga.
Bearer of Bad News: Since he lived 18 years after Nobunaga's death, Toyohisa breaks the news rather harshly that everything that Nobunaga had striven for had collapsed and Toyohisa himself died in the last battle of a crumbling era.
Beat the Curse Out of Him: Toyohisa does some form of this to Joan by throwing her into a well while pounding her, as seen when her pyrokinetic powers fade and her madness subsides somewhat. Unusual in that Toyohisa had absolutely no wish to do that (he had honestly no way of knowing that would happen), and that he left her alone after that, because he believes there is no honor in killing a woman.
Berserk Button: Doing something dishonorable like killing innocents or raping prisoners. Dissing the Shimazu clan is a more comedic one.
BFS: That nodachi is almost as tall as he is.
Blood Knight: If his usual slasher smile wasn't already a dead giveaway, take note that his first kill on the battlefield was at age 14.
Brilliant, but Lazy: In terms of combat tactics, Toyohisa is right up there with Nobunaga. However when it comes to long term political strategies and conspiracies, many consider him an incapable idiot. However, Nobunaga believes it's not a matter of Toyohisa being incapable of such cunning, but rather he just decided not to bother trying in the first place and focus solely on combat. Nobunaga goes on to say that this was probably a trait he got from the rest of the Shimazu clan, as he states they had a lot of talent and potential in many fields of governing, but combat was always their top priority above all else.
Catchphrase: When going for the kill on someone in particular, often a commander of some kind, he'll demand that they "Leave [their] head here!" This is lampshaded by Olminu when she's discovered by them as she freaks out over the "'Leave your head here' Ghost".
Combat Pragmatist: Certainly not to the extent of Nobunaga; but in their duel, Hijikata states that, Toyohisa has no samurai honor since he keeps using hit-and-run tactics. Toyohisa rebukes his claim by stating that there is no such thing has honor in a true fight to the death, and that going all out against opponent, while using whatever resources or tactics at your disposal, is a sign of respect.
Contrasting Franchise Main Character: Toyohisa's outfit is prominently red, as opposed to Alucard's black one. While both are eager for a fight, Alucard has this tendency to play with his food while Toyohisa's good side is much less ambiguous. While Alucard is an Invincible Hero with New Powers as the Plot Demands, Toyohisa is a Badass Normalwho is usually outmatched.
Covered with Scars: Given how we're first introduced to Toyohisa and his near constant suicidal tendencies in fights, is it any wonder his body is riddled with battle scars? And after his bout with Hijikata Toshizō, his growing collection shows no signs of slowing down.
Expy: A Hot-Blooded and slightly dense young samurai in a red leather jacket brings to mind Sanada Yukimura from Sengoku Basara.
Fearless Fool: Much to the lament of his comrades. They are constantly vexed at how Toyohisa can be such a highly competent general and such a reckless battle idiot at the same time. Everyone develops their own pet theory behind his behavior with most his close allies believing he was raised like this, and with most enemies believing he is genuinely insane. In truth it's a little from column A, a little from column B, and a whole lot from column C.
Genre Savvy: Toyohisa surprisingly realizes that the Drifters propping themselves up as rulers is likely to end really badly (particularly since the Orte Empire they are overthrowing is, like them, human and it's unlikely that the Elves are going to be happy exchanging one set of human rulers for another).
Honor Before Reason: He'll show mercy to any enemy that discards their weapons and will never kill a girl. Unless they've done something like raping prisoners.
Humble Hero: A rare seinen version. It's clear to everyone around him that, Toyohisa has the talents and skill of a great general, but he himself has never, and probably will never, view himself this way. No matter his accomplishments he has always seen himself a "brat of the battlefield" unfit to be held in such high regards.
I Shall Taunt You: Olminu comments half-seriously that although he doesn't do it deliberately, Toyohisa is a genius at provoking his enemies into fits of rage and frustration, as Joan of Arc, Hijikata Toshizo and even the Greater-Scope Villain EASY found out the hard way.
Idiot Hero: Not that it stops him from being a scarily competent strategist when he wants to be.
Improbable Age: At only 30 (and, this being a seinen manga, that's acknowledged as pretty damn young), he's an odd choice for commanding La Résistance, compared to the much older Nobunaga... however, you have to remember that Toyohisa has been fighting wars since he was a teenager, and thus already has over 10 years of experience under his belt, which make his talents more believable.
Katanas Are Just Better: Toyohisa's katana can easily cleave through armour and even break the swords of the Orte Empire without losing its edge.
Loophole Abuse: When fighting a soldier of the Orte Empire, Toyohisa snaps that anyone who doesn't speak Japanese should die. Yoichi snidely asks if that means he's going to kill the two elf children, so Toyohisa promptly teaches them to say "Help me!" in Japanese.
Magnetic Hero: A seinen version of types 2 & 4 for demi-humans, with type 5 reserved for the OCT members and his fellow Drifters. It's shown early on that despite most people seeing him as a terrifying killing machine (which he definitely is on the battlefield), Toyohisa posses a natural talent in breaking down cultural barriers and turning almost anybody he meets into an ally (and even they are scared of him at times). The first example of this was when he convinced the elven serfs to kill the Orte knight for massacring their people despite not understanding Japanese. He gets along best with the Dwarves however since they both have similar traits thanks to both belonging to a warrior clan/race.
Morality Chain: He serves as one along with Yoichi for Nobunaga. And is slowly becoming one for Yoichi as well.
Not Afraid to Die: Toyohisa's main mindset, which borders dangerously close to that of a Death Seeker, what with his repeated use of suicidal attacks, remarks about wanting to die a glorious warrior's death, and his belief that his death would be used as fuel for his comrades to achieve more in their pursuits. This outlook on his own life has unnerved friend and foe alike. His companions are especially fearful of this, knowing that without him all their plans will fall apart, and are constantly trying to talk him out of this way of thinking.
Not So Different: Olminu thinks that the way he fights makes him no different from the Ends.
Off with His Head!: Likes to do this to his enemies in battle.
Pet the Dog: Toyohisa tells an elf not to kill an unarmed soldier.
Proud Warrior Race Guy: Toyohisa is extremely proud of his Shimazu lineage and any sort of dissing of the clan is a huge Berserk Button for him, though it's mostly Played for Laughs.
Pure Is Not Good: Oda calls him pure when he doesn't want Toyohisa to dirty his own hands, yet he's an Anti-HeroBlood Knight who loves cutting off his foes' heads.
Replacement Goldfish: Played with in Chapter 13, with Nobunaga hinting that he may see Toyohisa as a replacement for his lost son. He's quickly shot down by Toyohisa. So he promptly ribs him about being a replacement for his father instead. This pushes one of Toyohisa's many Berserk Buttons, leading to an improptu Big Ball of Violence Yoichi joins in for absolutely no reason.
Rousing Speech: Prone to giving one of these before each battle. Nobunaga mentions that one of Toyohisa's greatest talents is to be able to get people to willingly follow him onto the battlefield. A good example is when he gives an epicTired of Running speech to a bunch of desperate refugees and soldiers begging for the Drifter's help to stop the, Black King's genocidal army. Most of it involved him flat out challenging their resolve to fight for survival, the result of which gains him more manpower for the cause.
Samurai: He is a member of the Shimazu noble family, who fought in the Sengoku period's civil war.
Sheath Strike: Aram is on the receiving end of a brutal beatdown with Toyohisa's sheath.
Shirtless Scene: Barely three chapters in and the only things covering his torso are a few bandages.
Shut Up, Hannibal!: How does Toyohisa deal with the trolling garbage spewing from Rasputin's mouth? Why he just kills his soldiers and beats the crap out of his political pawns in front of him. That would shut most evil manipulative bastards up. Not that Toyo was really listening in the first place.
Sword and Gun: Toyohisa's weapons of choice are his katana and a flintlock firearm.
"Well Done, Son!" Guy: In a sense. He's not as obsessed about it as some other characters, but although his father is already dead Toyo is determined to make him proud by killing as many enemies as possible. It's hinted that this may stem from his dad being so pleased with him when he killed an enemy in his first battle.
Wouldn't Hit a Girl: He wouldn't kill one, as is his personal code, but he does kick Joan in the gut, then knock her out with a headbutt when she refuses to surrender.

About Darius
You should view my webpage ON A COMPUTER. Or use DESKTOP VIEW setting in your mobile WEB-BROWSER. Not the Tumblr app. So I can’t be bothered with posting the images that go along with this since you can’t be bothered to go to the proper platform. (Sorry, mun is annoyed about this.)
“This one’s tale is one most unknown. He is not known for the tall tales of a clever wit and tongue. He is not known well at all. Niflheim of the timeless bore this one. Muspel was his womb. This one was not born of flesh and blood. This one came from whispers in the depths of a mirror’s mind. The whispers of dark desires, of murder, of lust, and of depravity. For that reason, the names most tied to I are that of darkness. If darkness were to have a face, I would be that face. If darkness were to want a voice, I would speak in its name. Darkness is cold and calculating and darkness is in my veins.”
Darius is not Loki as one would know him to be. He is not Loki in myth nor is he Loki in Marvel. He is his own entity. He is the darkness that was harbored in another, manifested in jotun form. He has no family. He has no home. Darius wanders the streets of the only realm he knows, Earth, or what he would call Midgard.
He has no goals or missions in life, only just to experience until his dying breath. He does not understand pain and emotion as we would. He does not understand sorrow and anguish. These things are unknown to him, and though they try to leave their mark on his dark soul, their efforts are in vain. His are the desires of a madman, of a psycho, of a killer. What actions he wants to take, he takes them. He does not give himself time to think of the consequences.

INFORMATION
Name: Darius Eirik Manngason (Manngason = “son of no one”) Nicknames: Loki, Dalie, Blueberry, Smurf, Dark One, Once-Thought, Dark Incarnation, Loki Loptrson Wishlist Nickname: None; he gives no fucks toward names Birthday: January 17th (Zodiac Capricorn) Age: Physically 5 years (his body was created July 23, 2012), looks like mid-thirties, contains the wealth of knowledge of Loki, so acts much older than either of the previously listed ages. Ethnicity: Jotunn (Frost Giant) Height: 6’4” (male) / 5’8” (female) Weight: Approx 635lbs (but feels like 200lbs with his levitation spell) Body Type: Darius is much unlike the stereotypical build of Loki. His frame is thick with muscle, yet he is still ‘small’ by Asgardian standards for warriors. When compared to someone like Thor, Darius would still appear small-framed. However, Darius stands physically taller than Loki by two or three inches, making him eye-level to Thor. Darius possesses a thicker, squarer jawline, and his eyebrows looks more chiseled and prominent than that of Loki’s. Skin color: Deep blue, close to ultramarine blue in Jotun form, pale white/alabaster (like humans) in Aesir form. Eye Color: Red with red sclera in Jotun form, green eyes with white sclera in Aesir form. Hair: Raven black, mid-length hair Scars: A large yet subtle scar across his stomach/abdominal region and a smaller more prominent one over his sternum. Burns: No Over weight: No Under weight: No Other Physical Traits: He has markings all over his body in his Jotun form that are akin to very thin, raised lines, giving him a somewhat tribal appearance. However, the thin lines are easily unnoticeable as they are so thin and barely raised. One would likely have to be looking for them, or they must be under some harsh lighting’s angle. Smells like: Differs based off of the shampoos/body washes he uses, mostly consisting of sandalwood, citrus, or cinnamon. Without the influence of shampoos/body wash, he would have a “freezer burn” kind of smell. Speech Traits: Deep voice, he speaks as though he has an accent, yet the accent is no definable match to any existing accents. Stance: He has a very rigid stance, appearing taller than he is, which is very tall. His feet are about 24 inches apart when he stands. Walk: He has something of a saunter-like walk, very casual and relaxed no matter the place or occasion. He walks with confidence and as though he has extreme familiarity of his surroundings. Common Gestures: Occasionally, he may tap his fingers on his side. He often shifts his weight from one foot to another every few minutes. He tends to move his head around as though he is looking for details. When exposed to many sounds or scents, he will sometimes close his eyes as he is very over-stimulated by his senses. Facial Expressions: He has a very unreadable face. It hints at multiple feelings, yet the eyes tell you that feelings are not present. He sometimes scowls, he sometimes look perplexed, and sometimes he even looks upset or depressed. Clothes and Shoes: He isn’t particularly picky about clothes. He will generally stick to flannel shirts that button up, although sometimes he will wear a thin long-sleeved or sleeveless undershirt, generally black in color. The flannel shirts tend to be vibrant red plaid shirts. He will wear an array of jeans, the most of which will be dark blue, grey, or black. Cosmetics: He doesn’t use too much, being a low-maintenance sort of fellow. He will occasionally use some oil to slick his hair back. Education: Religious education, Apprenticeship, Non-traditional education. Self-taught, very intelligent. Financial Status: Wealthy Lives in: an abandoned insane asylum located in Finland with no immediate neighboring buildings/residencies. Languages Known: English, Finnish, Swedish, Ancient Norse, Icelandic, Norweigan, Jotun, Asgardian Relationship Status: Single Sexual Orientation: Omnisexual, Sexuality: Sexually adventurous, experienced, promiscuous. Romantic Orientation: Romance repulsed Religious views: Atheistic, believes in an afterlife, believes in reincarnation, aliens exist (he’s proof of them). Beliefs: He believes that nothing matters. This is his biggest belief. One can spend their life trying to accomplish a great many things, however in the long run, their actions will be forgotten. They will be forgotten. The future will not remember them, no matter what. Perhaps some surviving documents will last for centuries, however Darius believes nothing lasts forever. Family: He has NO parents, NO siblings, and four children. Twins by Thanos and a daughter by an alternate Loki named Layla (all childrens’ whereabouts are unknown), and one son by simactire named Icarus (Dalie’s not allowed to see said son because of reasons…) Classification: He is an emotionless homicidal, suicidal, cannibalistic, sadistic, psychopathic sociopath. Reputation: He is well known to be violent and dangerous. Motto: “I don’t care.” Moral Code: He has no moral code. Fears: He has none. Strengths: He is physically strong. His logical thinking often puts an end to irrational emotional impulses. Weaknesses and Shortcomings: His apathy is very disruptive in his day-to-day actions. He also feels mildly uncomfortable at anything mentioning the heart. Personality Flaws: Paranoid, Schizoid, Antisocial. Severity of each is noticeable and somewhat disruptive. Desperation: He isn’t exactly desperate. His apathetic view on life disables any yearning. Most and Least Self-Serving Actions: Sex is the most self-serving thing he does on a frequent basis. He enjoys the way it feels and disregards what his partner feels. Least self-serving would be to help anyone else. He sees no point in doing that. Prejudices: He will look at someone and throw stereotypes at them in a very rude way. He will call a woman who has had many partners a slut. He will call a man who lays with another man gay in an offensive way. He belittles women, believing that being male is just more fun. However whether he actually feels this way is unknown. In truth, Darius does a lot of things mainly to get a rise out of someone. He will be mean, nasty, and cruel, do nearly whatever it takes to upset someone. Secrets: He has no secrets. He is a very open and free type of guy. He does not worry so much about the consequence of others knowing what it is he does. However, he does not offer such information freely. Usually one has to ask, otherwise he will not talk. Secrecy about Personal Information: Open and honest. Reliability of Memory: Eidetic (though due to rising mental conditions, some memories have been erased) Sense(s) of Humor: Vulgar, Complex, Dark, Physical, Openly displayed, Unique, and Passive (provides commentary) Special talent(s): Not possessing any fucks to give about anyone or anything. Images That Remind Me of Darius: Linked here. (To prevent lag in this page’s loading) Struggling With: Obtaining fucks to give.

STORY TIME:
Darius’ real name is Loki Loptrson. He was created by Loki (specifically my muse, LokaTattur, a.k.a. LiefullyLoki) and in some ways or another he /is/ Loki.
Darius started out solely as a thought in Loki’s mind. By this, I mean he was the dark voice in LokaTattur’s mind. We all have a dark side, we all have that little voice or conscious half that knows it’s wrong but won’t stop you from thinking of doing an evil deed. It’s your own will power that prevents you from acting out on your dark thoughts.
Darius is those dark thoughts, that whim you never let yourself take. In this particular case, he’s that for LokaTattur, or as he once was called “Liefully.” (My original Loki blog was LiefullyLoki, Darius came later and his original blog was DalieIsInYourCloset.)
My precious Liefully had once been so beaten and tortured by Thanos for a bargain he never made (his identity was mistaken since there are so many Lokis out there), that he didn’t nearly die, he truly did die. He was fortunate that another Loki, AsgardianOutcast, cared enough about him that he wasn’t willing to let Liefully stay dead. He bargained with Hel to free Liefully.
Ever since that time, Liefully was never the same again. He got PTSD, he got it really bad. Asgardian was there for him, though. And while Liefully changed into this new person, Asgardian loved him and protected him all the same.
One fateful week, Asgardian had to return to his own universe (because every Loki lives in an alternate reality) and was gone for a week because he had to go to war with another realm (he was king of Asgard). Liefully would’ve been fine spending that week alone.
The problem came in the form of Thanos.
Thanos returned to Earth to find Liefully, he started threatening those Liefully cared about to tell him where Loki is. This caused Liefully to completely snap. And Darius stepped in the place of this broken god and wielded control over Liefully’s form. Liefully was so out of sorts, he allowed his dark thoughts to manifest, become stronger, and become violent. His logic was if he could push away everyone he loved, they’d be safe from harm. They were only in danger because Loki cared about them. So he let Darius, who was only just the dark thoughts in his head at the time, take over and be as vicious and violent as he wanted all in an effort to push them away, to deter them.
Asgardian came back, and it was good that he did. He was able to snap Liefully out of it, where no one else, not even Loki’s brother, could.
But Darius didn’t want to go away. He didn’t want to recede. He had a taste of life and he wanted more. Since he knew everything there was to know about his mind-sharer, he used that to press all of Liefully’s buttons, the ones that would make him break, make him snap, so that Darius could get control again.
It wasn’t working. Asgardian was there and he was watching over Liefully carefully. Darius was soon only able to communicate with others when Liefully chose to rest. He then encountered another Loki, TheWickedLoki, who gave him a deal. Wicked would give Darius the body he wanted and Darius would do what Wicked wanted.
Darius took this deal. So, soon after, he was born to his very own body from the use of magic and the blood and hair of Loki (Wicked and yet another Loki’s hair/blood sample).
Fully grown, Darius had all of Liefully’s memories and no idea how to feel. The memories were like movies to Darius. He could see them, hear them, but he could not feel them, not smell them, not taste them. Liefully’s memories were, for the most part, useless to Darius.
However, he used a lot of them to be able to articulate, to be able to construe things, like knowing fire burns without having to feel it. This led to one factors of Darius’ fearlessness. He knew things that he didn’t have to experience. He because a highly rational thinker, disabling the needs or natural inclination for all emotions.
Darius originally had no emotions. But as time went on, he gained life experiences that he couldn’t get from Liefully’s memories. He learned what pain felt like, he learned what meat tasted like, so on and so forth. Over time, he learned many of the things we learn in our infancy and childhood.
While Darius is indeed a grown male, he is also much like a child, still learning a lot of things. His curiosity leads him to do strange things. As the once-thought of Liefully’s dark side, Darius has carried out many of the cruel acts that Liefully would think of but never dare do. So Darius’ dark inclination is because of his origins. And his behavior is due to his lack of experience in so much that we take for granted. Of course, he’s also just a big douche-bagel who loves pissing everyone off or freaking everyone out.
Darius’ weaknesses are very hard to see when one speaks with and interacts with him, but he too suffers greatly from the split. He longs for the solitude he was immensely used to. Being in his own body, Darius has learned much to his dismay that he cannot turn away from his physical senses and signals and sometimes these olfactory senses drive him mad. The silence, darkness, and solitude of Loki’s mind was an experience Darius had taken far for granted and has never been able to regain as a result of the split. Granted, he has learned to live with his olfactory senses, he stills longs for that peace of the mind.
Additional Info:
Darius was also severely desensitized to everything because he carried with him a copy of all of Loki’s memories and knowledge when he gained his own corporeal form. He has the knowledge to know the cause and effects of so many things yet he doesn’t have the feelings (physical or emotional) that are tied to the knowledge he has. One example of this is: You know that cutting your hand means it will bleed. For Darius, he has this knowledge. But before he was given his own body, he didn’t know the sensations that were tied to this. Thus, he was mentally ready for a cut of the hand and the sensations caused by the action didn’t train him to avoid being cut. Instead, when Darius experiences a cut of the hand, he registers the tingling sensations of the nerves telling him of pain, he feels his hand getting hot as blood rushes to the spot, he feels the way the cut skin reacts to any flexing movements done to it. Instead of having every desire to avoid it, these feelings make him curious. He already knows the consequences of a cut, but he doesn’t necessarily know the sensations tied to them.
So, in short, Darius doesn’t function like Loki at all. He might have Loki’s blood, Loki’s memories, and Loki’s knowledge of magic, potions, and spells, but he’s not Loki. He’s only part of Loki. Both he and Loki are parts of one another, yet they act as separate wholes.
(Daria = Darius’s female name)
Common Misconceptions About Darius:
Emotions (this one is long): A lot of people are very used to a character that possesses emotions, even if they’re hidden/masked. For Loki, most expect him to be angry when he brings pain to others, even if he’s clearly laughing maniacally as he does it. Your instinct is to assume he has some kind of negative emotions burrowing deep within that cause him to do what he does. Everyone has the instinct that behind every action and saying, there’s some emotion driving it. Darius wasn’t born like a normal individual. He didn’t have a childhood. He didn’t develop a brain like we do. Darius was born in the mind of another, completely devoid of feeling emotions toward what he could hear and see and having the wisdom and comprehension of one who has already learned the rewards and consequences of their actions. He was designed to function without emotional bias. After he was kind of transplanted from one mind to his own body to control, this is when Darius began developing his own olfactory senses. He’s still learning a lot! But for the most part, his mental state was developed before he obtained a physical form, so he processes everything very differently from others!!! We know not to do certain things because of their consequences, like sticking your hand in a fire burns and hurts. For Darius, he knows full well the consequences for his actions, but instead of fearing getting hurt, he finds it a mind-boggling function of the physical form and tries to understand it by doing that which most would learn not to do when they were young. He’s not biased by emotional responses because he has not developed emotions enough to have emotional responses. So he doesn’t feel afraid to get hurt, he doesn’t have any phobias and worries about one thing or another because he didn’t develop like a child would. Despite being incredibly intelligent and calculating, there’s a whole lot he doesn’t know, a whole lot that he didn’t have the benefits of a childhood to develop so while he is most certainly a full-grown adult, he is also a child about many things, emotions being one of them. He has himself psyched out to think he can’t feel and when you have never felt emotions before, it’s very hard to identify them within yourself. Every emotion he learns is heavily tied to the physical indicators of that emotional response. And since he has a lifetime stuffed in his head that’s completely devoid of the emotional context of each memory (we’re talking about Loki’s memories, not Darius’ memories), he’s come to expect that level of emotional magnitude, which is no feelings. To him, a lot of things are like watching a film. He can see what’s happening and hear what’s happening, but he has no emotional context for those things so what he sees doesn’t inspire emotional responses. So to put things simply, Darius is almost completely lacking in emotions. He’s learning them slowly, but for now, he hasn’t felt the full emotional spectrum.
Getting angry: A lot of people are very used to being able to piss someone off by calling them names or drudging up unfavorable memories for that individual or even physically poking and prodding them until they burst with rage. Well, that stuff doesn’t work on Darius. Being one that lacks the ability to feel irrationally emotional over things, calling him names are either interpreted as “Duh” or “That’s weird, but okay.” You can totally call him a blueberry or a smurf, he isn’t going to get mad. His thought process works this way: “Oh, I see what you’re doing there. You’re calling me a blueberry because my skin’s blue.” And insinuating names that most would find insulting like “retard,” he just sees the misconception of the name. It’d be like calling a cat a dog. The cat doesn’t care what you call it, even if that’s an incorrect identification of the animal. It’s going to continue going about it’s catty business. As far as Darius is concerned, you can call him a horse-fucker (since people sometimes mistake him for Loki who once did the deed with a horse) and all he thinks is “Well, I didn’t fuck a horse, so you’re wrong. That’s on you, not me. -shrug-” Darius has absolutely no emotional response that will drive him to want to contradict someone’s accusation of him. Someone can be like “I bet you can’t do that!” and he’ll respond with “Yeah, I can.” and if they say “Prove it!” He’d just be like “Why? I don’t care if you believe me or not. That doesn’t change the fact that I can do what I said I can do.” It’s another misconception that he feels grumpy. He might act and sound grumpy, but he’s rarely in this negative end of the spectrum.
Murderer’s gonna do what a murderer’s gonna do: A lot of people think “Oh shit, Darius is a murderer, he’s a psychopath, he’s sadistic. Fuck, my muse is doomed.” Nope, that’s not quite so. Sure there’ll be times where Darius will blatantly hurt your muse, but he gets a lot of fun from picking them apart psychologically. He loves to try to figure out what makes people tick. So you can expect him entering in conversations with muses and be several replies in without having made any actual life-threatening actions or threats toward your muse’s life. He may be a murderer but murdering takes energy and sometimes he just doesn’t feel like murdering, sometimes he just wants to talk. I’m not saying that’s a good thing! Sometimes he uses conversation to learn of someone’s weaknesses and insecurities so he can use that against them later. He’s a man without a plan, but he acts like someone who knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s strange like that. Besides, one of his most popularly repeated sayings is “Dead things are no fun.” He gets a lot more enjoyment in ‘experimenting’ on others. He loves to test the boundaries and
My muse is going to annoy the fuck out of him: This is really similar to getting angry, being that it’s nearly impossible to annoy Darius. All the usual tactics one can employ to annoy someone don’t really work on Darius. You can’t talk his ear off, he’ll listen patiently. You can’t insult him, he wouldn’t care. You can’t drudge up bad memories, he doesn’t have them. You can pull pranks on him and he’ll usually respond in the most anti-climactic way. A most commonly referred to example is the time an Anon decided to dunk hot salsa all over him. He didn’t get mad, he was more like “Really? What a waste of salsa.” No “WHY DID YOU DO THAT, YOU LITTLE BITCH, IMMA WRONG YOUR NECK.” It was just “Darn, I just took a shower too. Guess I have to go take another one now…” That’s not to say it’s impossible to annoy him. The ways in which Darius functions.
Reverse Psychology: It generally doesn’t work on him. You’ll never know if saying “Leave me alone” will make him want to stay and continue causing trouble for your muse or if he’ll be like “Okay, bye.” Likely, if he knows what your muse wants, he makes the conscious choice of whether or not he wants to give it to them. It’s going to be a 50/50 chance. If your muse tries to psyche him out by stating something to the opposite of what they want him to follow through with, chances are he’ll follow through with that thing the muse told him to do. This is really complicated and I can’t give any solid examples as to what I mean. It’s a little like Princess Bride, that scene where Westley and the balding guy had a duel of witts. Darius is Westley in that case. Your muse will likely lose one way or another.
He’s dark, he’s into the kinky shit: Not necessarily. He gets off on feeling power but he doesn’t exactly get a hard-on if it’s clear your muse is in pain. He likes knowing he’s in control and hates not being in control. He’s not a Dom, he’s an attacker, there’s a huge difference. Mainly being, there’s no such thing as a safe word for him. He’s going to do what satisfies his carnal needs and will probably make little effort to ensure his partner is also enjoying things. This doesn’t mean he’s into hand cuffs, leather, whips, chains, etc. He’s a little less easy to pin than that. It doesn’t mean he’s not open to those things, but usually he’s going to do things his way or he’s going to leave and find someone else to “play” with.
FACECLAIMS
In case anyone’s confused… Darius is blue skinned and his eyes are solid red. Darius’ skin has thinly raised jotun marking all over his body. Like this:
He has TWO male face claims. One is Tom Hiddleston (as Loki):
And the other is Ian Somerhalder (as Damon):
The reason for this is because Damon has a lot of mannerisms that are very Darius-like to me. But in my mind, he still looks like Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, regardless of the face claim.
Darius’ female face claim is Eva Green (in various roles):

Phil Coulson (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.): ENFJ
Dominant Extroverted Feeling [Fe]: Coulson is good at seeing the potential in other people, a skill he utilizes in order to form his team. He generally displays a warm, friendly, easygoing disposition, and knows how to approach people. He has an inherent understanding of their desires and motivations, which he can easily use to persuade or manipulate them. Coulson has a keen understanding of what different people will respond do, and is adept at tailoring his tactics accordingly. When he tries to recruit Skye, he knows exactly how to handle her. He shows her that the team’s goals align with hers, he emphasizes the good work they’re trying to do, and he recognizes her sense of adventure, as well as her attraction to the strange and the peculiar, and uses that to lure her in. When he’s trying to reason with Mike Peterson, he emphasizes that he sees Mike’s strength, and uses his love for his son to convince him that S.H.I.E.L.D. can help. When he visits May in an attempt to get her to join the team, he gains her favor by telling her that the team will have total control of their assignments, which interests her. Coulson is a diplomatic speaker and knows how to inspire people, motivate them, and calm them down. He prioritizes the safety and welfare of others, and believes in the importance of lying to people for their own good. Coulson is a natural leader and his team is like family to him. He cares deeply about protecting the world, guiding his team, and advocating for positive change.
Auxiliary Introverted Intuition [Ni]: Even though S.H.I.E.L.D. is a highly structured organization, Coulson doesn’t usually follow protocol, and makes creative decisions to obtain the results he desires that don’t align with the way things are typically handled. He doesn’t really care about standards, of how things are usually done. As a matter of fact, he pretty much disregards all of that completely, opting to do things in the way he sees fit. Often, the plans he develops do work and his instincts prove to be correct. Coulson brings out a “truth serum” (which Ward later claims was a placebo used as a ruse to manipulate Skye, though Coulson doesn’t confirm or deny this) which he injects Ward with, and allows Skye to think that she’s interrogating him. Coulson employs this strategy in order to gain Skye’s trust, which works, making her much more cooperative (Fe-Ni). His methods are unorthodox, but Coulson sees the big picture, and goes with the plan that he believes will allow him to obtain the results he desires. He knows that allowing Skye to join the team could be a mistake, but he follows his intuition about her, and doesn’t feel the need to explain himself when Ward openly opposes his decision. Coulson is extremely decisive, and while he is open-minded and listens to the opinions of other people, he also allows himself to trust his gut and prioritize that over other people’s input when he feels it necessary to do so.
Tertiary Extroverted Sensing [Se]: Although Coulson is the leader, he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. Coulson prefers discussion and peaceful resolution (Fe), but is highly trained and skilled in combat. Being in the thick of the action gives him an adrenaline rush and excites him. Though he is focused on the future and all of the work that the team can do, he enjoys the physical, dangerous side of what they do. He has a taste for luxury and splendor, as evidenced by the car that he drives and the thrill he tells Skye that he had the bus “completely refurbished” and “spared no expense”. Coulson doesn’t mind taking a risk. Even though Skye is a member of the Rising Tide and unqualified to join the team, he decides to take a chance on her anyway, even though she could use her new position within shield to further the Rising Tide’s agenda.
Inferior Introverted Thinking [Ti]: While it is in the inferior position, Coulson actually seems to have a good grasp on this function. He has a sharp, analytical mind and knows how to assess problems in order to determine viable solutions. Sometimes, his other functions can blot out what his Ti is telling him. For instance, he logically understands why x makes sense, but hit intuition tells him to take the y approach instead. It’s not that he can’t see it… it’s just that he sometimes discards his Ti in favor of what his higher functions come up with. He has a desire to understand and learn about whatever he’s dealing with and places emphasis on intelligence gathering. Coulson has a tendency to think outside the box. He is extremely witty and can come up with a quick quip in any situation.
Note: I’ve seen him typed as an INFJ, INFP, ENFP, and ESFJ, and I’m about to say something that I rarely say. I can see arguments for all of those types. Coulson is very tricky, because he can appear extremely Ne. However, if you really pay attention, he usually isolates one possibility or idea and sticks with that until he can’t, and will then move on. That indicates Ni over Ne. And I know, I know. “But what about Lola?” Fair point. He does have a fondness for his vintage car (and enhances it with modern technology), which is stereotypically Si. He does value the “simple tools of the past” and enjoys his superhero history. But think about the people you know in real life. I’m sure plenty of people who are Se and into cars appreciate older models. That doesn’t mean you’re not Se. Again, I totally get why people type him Ne/Si. There is absolutely an argument for that. I just don’t think these interests outweigh the Ni he demonstrates. Although Coulson works within a structured system, he doesn’t blindly follow authority. He leads his team his way, and makes calls that are abnormal, innovative, and risky. He doesn’t have a strong attachment to the past (other than his fondness for Lola and simpler technologies) and doesn’t appear very sentimental. Coulson is focused on the future. He wants to help people and change things for the better (Fe-Ni).
Enneagram: I can see 9w8 So/Sp for Coulson. Possibly 962 or 972 tritype.
Quotes:
Skye: We should warn the people who live around here if the 0-8-4 is dangerous. They’re already dealing with anti-mining rebels and the shining path guerillas. I could post something. Coulson: Remember the panic when that anti-matter meteor splashed down just off the coast of Miami, nearly devoured the city? Skye: No. Coulson: Precisely. Because we kept it quiet and contained. Skye: So, what am I doing? Coulson: Well, if it gets out, I might need you to create some kind of diversion, put the public on the wrong scent. Skye: So everything that I’m against. Coulson: Yep.
Coulson: An Asgardian stabbed me through the heart with a Chitauri scepter. The effect was similar. Got a few weeks’ R&R and this plane. Had it completely refurbished. Studs up – spared no expense.
Skye: I don’t even know where we’re going. Coulson: Peru. That’s where the 0-8-4 was reported. Skye: And an 0-8-4 is…? Coulson: An object of unknown origin. Kind of like you. Team goes in, determines if it’s useful or if it poses a threat. Last one turned out to be pretty interesting.
Ward: Skye? Girl’s not qualified to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Coulson: Agreed. That’s why I’ve invited her on as a consultant. S.H.I.E.L.D. does it all the time. Technically, Stark’s a consultant. Ward: And technically, Skye’s a member of the Rising Tide. She hacked our RSA implementation – twice. Coulson: From a laptop. Imagine what she’ll do with our resources. Ward: I am. That’s exactly what I’m imagining during this frown. You brought me on for risk assessment. She’s a risk. She doesn’t think like us. Coulson: Exactly. […] Ward: We have two kids on this bus who aren’t cleared for combat. You’re adding a third. At least Fitz-Simmons are trained S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists. But Skye? You said this was a select team. Assembled to work new cases, to protect people. I don’t see how letting some hacker tag along — Coulson: I’m looking for an objection I haven’t already anticipated. I’m calling this. But your frown will be on record.
Skye: I’m not exactly a team player. Coulson: We’re not exactly a team. But we’re in a position to do some good. You’d be a great help. And you’d be front row center at the strangest show on earth, Which is, after all, what you wanted.
Coulson: But the good ones… the real deal… they’re not heroes because of what they have that we don’t. It’s what they do with it. You’re right, Mike. It matters who you are. Mike: I could, you know? Be a hero. Coulson: I’m counting on it.
Ward: You’re gonna risk thousands of people’s lives over some nobody.
Coulson: Nobody’s nobody, Ward.
Mike: It matters who I am – inside. If I’m a good person, if I’m strong. Coulson: I know you’re strong. Your boy knows it. He needs you to let us help.
Coulson: We only get one shot at this, so let’s go over the plan one more time to make sure we’re clear on exactly what we’re doing, okay? Trip and I will crest the ridge, use a noisemaker to grab a three-wheel, maybe something with more fireworks, and open a window for you two. You crawl in, grab the dealer, force his hand. He’ll get us our ace in the hole, and then Bob’s your uncle. Skye: Roger that. Triplett: Makes it sound easy. May: Coulson, it’s a solid plan you’ve mapped out, but it hinges on a gamble – a big one. Coulson: And back up isn’t coming. It’ll be just the four of us. We’ll be outmanned and outgunned. But Fury always said… a man can accomplish anything when he realizes he’s a part of something bigger. A team of people who share that conviction can change the world. So, what do you say? You ready to change the world? May: No. I’m ready to kick some ass. Coulson: That works, too.
Nick Fury: And I’m not afraid to cut off fingers. The principle SHIELD was founded on was pure. May: Protection. Nick Fury: Protection. One word. Sometimes to protect one man from himself, other times to protect the planet against an alien invasion from another universe. It’s a broad job description. Coulson: No need to tell me. Nick Fury: But the belief that drives us all is the same. Whether it’s one man, or all mankind. Coulson: That they’re worth saving. Nick Fury: That truth lives inside you, Coulson. Before it was torn apart, S.H.I.E.L.D. was a lot of moving parts. Guys like you were the heart. Now you’ll be the head.
Coulson: I need skilled assets in the field who are willing to step over the line, to do the wrong thing but for the right reason. I need you because I can’t be you. Not anymore.
May: I’m not going back in the field. Coulson: Yeah. You’ve got such a nice setup here. You ever thought about adding a moat? I just need you to drive the bus, liase ground transpo, some on-site supervision. This isn’t a combat op. May: Then you don’t need me. Coulson: I do. ‘Cause we’ll be running ourselves. Picking the ops… making the calls. No red tape. This is where they actually make the red tape, isn’t it? I always wondered. Melinda.
Coulson: [In Skye’s interrogation] This is QNB-T16. It’s the top-shelf martini of sodium pentothal derivatives. It’s a brand-new and extremely potent truth drug. Don’t worry. The effects only last about an hour. Ward: And you’ll have a nice little nap. And we’ll have all the answers to our… [Coulson injects Ward] Ward: Hey! What the hell? Coulson: I’m sorry. Did that hurt? Ward: No, you’ve lost your mind. You should never do that to a member of your team. And yes, it did hurt a little bit, but I try to mask my pain in front of a beautiful woman, it makes me seem more masculine. MY GOD this stuff works fast. Coulson: [to Skye] Don’t trust us? Ask him whatever you’d like. Ward: Wait a minute. Wait. You can’t just… [Coulson opens the door and leaves; as Ward shouts after him] Ward: This is definitely not protocol!
Coulson: May’s not the director. This is my call. I was put in charge of the Tahiti project, so those people are my responsibility. If going back in this machine saves even one life, then it’s worth the risk.
Coulson: To answer the question on everyone’s mind, no, I’m not crazy. I know in the past few months, it may have seemed like I was leading you on some fool’s errand, chasing after strange carvings and artifacts. At times, I questioned it myself wondering if I was chasing windmills, trying to solve some unsolvable puzzle. But the pieces are coming together. The puzzle’s taking shape. The bad news HYDRA’s trying to solve the same puzzle, and they have more resources. The good news we now have a piece they don’t have. Everything we’ve been doing, it all leads here. Our job? Find it before anyone else.

Character Master Post
I thought that it was about time to put all of my characters' information into one place. Under the read more cause this gets crazy long.
If I make any edits, this post will be reblogged.
Name: Mai Shan
Age: 21 at the beginning of the Jedi Consular Storyline
Job(s): Jedi Consular, Member of the Jedi Council, Alliance Advisor
Alignment: Light Side
Romance: Married to Felix Iresso
Personality & Traits: Mai is incredibly kind, giving and considerate. Everything that she does is for others. She's basically a cinnamon roll. She comes from the Shan family (the family of Satele Shan, Theron Shan and my Revan, Shyon); which results in a massive amount of pressure and worry during her teenage years through to the Jedi Consular story. Although her family and personal life was not always the best, Mai strives to stop focusing on her own problems, rather to help others with theirs.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Mai is secretly married to Felix Iresso. At the beginning of their relationship, Mai was reluctant to pursue a romantic bond, as the Jedi Code did not allow it. However, she soon realised how much she was in love with Felix and decided to make a ‘selfish’ choice, to marry him. They are happily married now, and although they don’t often talk about the inner workings of their groups (Republic military and Jedi), they understand each other.
• For their first year anniversary, Felix gifted Mai with a Shadow Nekarr Cat, which she named Glass.
• Mai doesn’t know her father very well, but she very much knew her mother, a Jedi and sister to Grand Master Satele Shan. Mai’s mother (name still in the works) was her teacher most of the time. Since Mai is apart of a very famous family, she was given special treatment within the Jedi Order ranks (extra classes, etc), which earned the slight contempt of her fellow classmates. When her mother was killed, Mai was so broken and angry that she actually Force-screamed the Jedi Master who informed her about it across the room.
• Mai got her facial scars during the Siege of Coruscant. She was training with her fellow classmates when a Sith barged into the room and started attacking. Mai leapt in to protect them and she fought bravely, before the Sith sliced her face, causing her to faint from the pain. She was told later that only a few seconds after she had fainted, a Jedi Master had come into the room and killed the Sith.
• Mai was there during KOTFE (link to post x), though she isn’t the canon Outlander. She was put into carbonite with Pheebi for five years, causing her permanent blindness. There was a moment after she had awoken where she could not sense the Force and she had a mini panic attack.
• I headcanon that Mai is almost as strong as Vaylin is in the Force; I mean, she’s got just as strong of a family as Vaylin; Revan, Satele Shan, and even more Jedi than that. She just does not use that power because either she does not believe that she is that strong or she chooses not to, because she believes that she is susceptible to the dark side if she does.
Link to 30 Day SWTOR OC Challenge: x
Name: Pheebi Bralor
Age: 23 at the beginning of the Jedi Knight story
Job(s): Jedi Knight, Hero of Tython, Outlander, Alliance Commander
Alignment: Light Side/Neutral
Romance: Romantic feelings for Scourge
Personality & Traits: Pheebi is headstrong, confident and occasionally a little rash. She likes to takes risks, because she is sure of her abilities and the strength of her allies. If the situation calls for it, she will kill an enemy, though she will do it honourably (she doesn’t like the idea of killing from afar).
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Pheebi is part-Mandalorian. She is a member of Clan Bralor, along with her sister, Cloe. When she was young, she was accidentally left behind during a raid. The Jedi took her in, even though she was ‘too old to begin the training’. She was too young to remember her Mandalorian heritage and the Jedi refused to tell her. She found out that she was Mandalorian after the Jedi Knight storyline, when her sister, Cloe, found and told her.
• After the events of KOTFE-KOTET, Pheebi leaves the Jedi Order, tired of the Jedi Council controlling her and refusing to tell her things. After she left, she focused fully on the reformation of the Republic, serving as Alliance Commander for as long as she was able.
• Pheebi has a grudge against my Sith Warrior, Arachne, after their confrontation on the Black Talon. They have never liked each other.
• Pheebi and Doc don’t really get along. When they first met, Doc flirted with her and she was tempted to kick him out of the airlock. She finally told him to stop pursuing her and he respected her wishes.
Name: Cloe Bralor
Age: 22 at the beginning of the Bounty Hunter storyline
Job(s): Bounty Hunter, Mandalorian, Leader of Clan Bralor, Grand Hunt Champion
Alignment: Neutral
Romance: Married to Torian Cadera
Personality & Traits: Cloe is strong, bold and no-nonsense. It takes a while for her to like someone and even longer to trust them. She bonds with people by fighting alongside them and she respects talent and strategy.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• When Pheebi was left behind, Cloe thought that she was dead and fought in her name for years. After the end of the Bounty Hunter storyline, Cloe discovered her sister was alive when she was looking through the Empire’s Most Wanted List. Pheebi was on it, because she had recently just ‘killed’ the Emperor. She hunted her sister down and told her who she was.
• Cloe got her scar during the same raid that ‘killed’ her sister.
• Cloe uses a katana blade in battle; a gift from her father upon winning the Great Hunt.
• Since she had lost her biological sister when she was young, Cloe was quick to bond with Mako, who replaced Pheebi.
• Cloe is extremely skilled in hand to hand combat, so much so that she sometimes doesn’t even use her weapons in battle.
Name: Caney (last name not decided)
Age: 21 at the beginning of the Imperial Agent storyline
Job(s): Imperial Agent, Republic SIS Agent, Alliance Operative
Alignment: Light Side/Neutral
Romance: In relationship with Theron Shan
Personality & Traits: Caney is strong, deadly, with a follower mentality, at least at first. She subconsciously blinded herself to the evils of the Empire, until after she realised that they were using her for a weapon. Underneath her deadly exterior, Caney is sweet, loving and full of hope for the future. She is sensitive and can be easily sickened by awful events, which is why she created a wall around herself, trying to convince herself that it wasn’t true or that it was justified. After she defected to the Republic SIS, Caney became more independent and less susceptible to lies.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Caney got her scar when she was young during a training match with another Imperial cadet. Her opponent sliced her cheek and she got angry and unintentionally killed him. She has always regretted that, so much so that when her teachers told her to cover it up with a special skin covering (so she would look like the rest of the cadets), she refused. She didn’t want to hide that she had killed someone; she kept it to honour the fallen cadet.
• Caney and Theron Shan bonded after they realised how alike they both were and how they had both felt controlled by people with ulterior motives.
• After she defected, Caney became close friends with Natila, a Republic SIS contact and went on multiple missions with her, Jonas Balkar and Theron Shan.
Name: Dyana (real name unknown)
Age: 22 at the beginning of the Sith Inquisitor storyline
Job(s): Slave, Sith Inquisitor, Dark Council Member
Alignment: Neutral/Dark Side
Romance: none
Personality & Traits: Not a whole lot is known about Dyana. She is very mysterious. However, it is known that she is very vengeful, especially after she hunted down the slave traders that sold her and killed them all. Dyana is power-hungry, dangerous and prone to killing by lightning, at least on the outside. The truth is, Dyana inside is extremely scared. She knows that if she doesn’t act like the rest of the Sith, she will soon be killed off and that is the last thing she wants. She does want power, but only to survive, not for the sake of it.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Dyana loves going on her own and hunting ancient Sith artifacts.
• She tries to free as many slaves as possible during her time as a Sith Lord, often welcoming them into her cult. She also let the ghosts go at the end of the SI story; she did not want to become a slaver herself.
• Dyana has a slave brand on her back, between her shoulder blades.
Name: Luca (last name not decided)
Age: 25 at the beginning of the Trooper storyline
Job(s): Republic Trooper, Leader of Havoc Squad
Alignment: Light Side/Neutral
Romance: Undecided
Personality & Traits: Luca is dedicated, sassy and mentally, very strong. She jokes around a lot, but she is very focused during battle and all things related to planning out one. She can be very sarcastic and loves to tease Aric and Tanno. She is extremely respectful of Elara and her defection and helped her get through all of the prejudice within the Republic.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Luca is actually related to Mai. This is a bit of a mouthful, but stick with me. Mai’s father’s brother is Luca’s father. So, basically, Mai and Luca are cousins.
• Luca’s head jewellery is a gift from her mother, with inscriptions outlining her family history.
Name: Kalanti (last name not decided)
Age: 19 at the beginning of the Smuggler storyline
Job(s): Explorer, occasional Smuggler, member of Koth Vortena’s crew
Alignment: Light Side
Romance: Undecided
Personality & Traits: Kalanti is brave, stronger than she thinks and a bit naive when it comes to the evil of the galaxy. She grew up hearing the classic hero stories, like the legend of Revan and Malak. She grew up on her homeworld of Mirial and didn’t know much about the galaxy. When she declared her dream to become an explorer and leave the planet, her parents urged her not to, warning her about the dangers of the galaxy. She ignored their wishes and left the planet on their ship the Suubatar. She explored the galaxy until she landed on Ord Mantell, where Skavak stole her ship. As she and Corso hunted him down, Kalanti realised just how horrible people could really be. Her first kill was actually Skavak and after that, she felt a horrible remorse and pain. After that, Kalanti decided that even if the galaxy wasn’t as good as she had thought it was, she would still fight for what was right, following the paths of the great heroes before her.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Kalanti found the wreckage of the Endar Spire on Taris and actually sent a holo of her near it to her uncle, who had always inspired her to become an explorer.
• Kalanti loves to tinker and actually carries around a pouch of random things from the ship to fiddle with when she’s bored.
• She admires a lot of people and hopes to meet them all one day.
Name: Natila Omari
Age: about 24
Job(s): Ex-Jedi Padawan, Republic SIS Contact
Alignment: Light Side/Neutral
Romance: Currently dating Jonas Balkar
Personality & Traits: Natila is smart, sarcastic and fun to be around. She was a bit bitter about being kicked out of the Jedi Order after she failed her trials, but she quickly moved on, to the Republic SIS.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Natila likes colourful clothes, often wearing a magenta jacket over her underworld fatigues.
• Natila was Mai’s best friend when she was in the Jedi Order and after she left, their friendship fell apart, until they met again and joined forces. Now, Natila is a trusted contact to both Mai and Pheebi.
Name: Arachne (last name not decided)
Age: 24 at the beginning of the Sith Warrior storyline
Job(s): Sith Warrior, Emperor’s Wrath
Alignment: Dark Side/Neutral
Romance: Undecided
Personality & Traits: Arachne comes from a very influential Imperial family, so she is a bit stuck up. She thinks herself above others and most of the time, she is, at least in terms of combat. She has been trained, sometimes brutally, since she was a young child. Her parents never really loved her, at least not any more as they would love a weapon, which is all they thought she was. They saw her just as another chance to get higher up in the Imperial ranks.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Arachne has many alien ancestors, like Zabrak, Arkanian and even Sith Pureblood. Usually, this would be considered a disadvantage in Imperial society, but Arachne uses it for her own benefit.
• Arachne wields two orange lightsabers into battle.
Name: Shyon Onasi
Age: 32 at the beginning of the KOTOR 1 storyline
Job(s): Jedi, Darth Revan, Republic Soldier
Alignment: Neutral
Romance: Married to Carth Onasi
Personality & Traits: Shyon is strong, passionate, and reckless. She was extremely shocked when she discovered that she was actually Darth Revan, but she did not embrace the dark side again.
Notes/Random Facts about Her:
• Shyon is Mai’s ancestor. Although the last name is Shan is associated with Bastila Shan, the Satele Shan Shans are actually not related to her at all. I headcanon that Shan is actually a really common last name.
• Shyon’s best friend is Juhani. They immediately connected because, even if she didn’t know at the time, they had both had their time with the dark side and had come out of it.
• Shyon really despises Bastila and how hypocritical she could be, but she did save her on the Star Forge.
• Shyon’s hair band is actually a piece of fabric ripped from her Revan robes. Later, it was gifted to Mai.
That so far is the end of the character master-post. If there are any edits, this post will be reblogged and the edits will be noted above the read-more thingy.

Are You Doing Microworkouts? Here’s Why You Should.
The fitness industry is in the midst of a renaissance. Flawed and dated strategies like sedentary recovery practices or overly stressful HIIT workouts are being replaced with cutting-edge practices that offer more efficiency and return on investment. Today I’m covering one emerging fitness strategy: performing brief feats of strength in the routine course of a day. Let’s call them microworkouts.
I’m talking here about dropping for a single set of deep squats in the office, hitting a set of max effort pull-ups whenever you pass under a bar in a closet doorway, or stocking your backyard with a hex deadlift bar or bench press and busting out a single set every time you pass by while taking out the garbage.
Banking Benefits With Less Stress
Micro-workouts deliver two distinct and awesome benefits: First, when you add up the energy expenditure of these brief but frequent efforts, you obtain an incredible cumulative training effect. In essence, you are banking a lot of strength/power/explosiveness “mileage” without disturbing the necessary stress/rest balance of your official workout schedule or prompting the stress hormone production and cellular depletion that occurs from an extreme weekend warrior-type session. That is, a set of pull-ups, or even three sets over the course of 12 hours on a typical day, is not going to mess up the next day’s CrossFit session or even an ambitious arms and chest session. Rather, these micro sessions (Dr. Phil Maffetone calls the concept, “slow weights”) will raise the baseline from which you launch you ambitious full-scale workouts.
Think about it: If you do a single set of six deadlifts with 200 pounds on the bar every time you take out the garbage, that’s 1,200 pounds of work accomplished. Perhaps you can find your way to doing that 1-2 times a day, five or six days a week? That’s lifting an extra 10,000 pounds a week! When it’s time to perform a formal session, such as the popular 5 x 5 protocol (where you complete five sets of five reps, and perhaps add an upper body exercise to each set), you’re poised for fitness breakthroughs as well as faster recovery times. An “official” workout is no longer this tremendous athletic performance vastly outside the normal pattern of your largely sedentary life, but instead an upgrade of what you do every day to some extent. Does this concept ring a bell? Yes, micro-workouts are modeling the behavior patterns of our hunter-gatherer ancestors! Grok and company likely had some harsh days that might rival today’s CrossFit WOD or obstacle course race, but they also likely had routine daily chores entailing lifting heavy things or scrambling up steep embankments in between their legendary leisure time.
Interrupting Prolonged Inactivity
The second benefit of micro-workouts is perhaps even more profound: these short efforts help you combat the extreme health hazard of prolonged periods of stillness that characterize hyperconnected modern life. The adverse health consequences of stillness have been well-chronicled, and you’ve heard me talk about them for years. Studies show that even a few days of inactivity can generate a significant decline in glucose tolerance and increase in insulin resistance. In Primal Endurance, I quote Nutritious Movement queen Katy Bowman on the destruction of cellular health caused by stillness: “When you use a single position repetitively, such as curling your body into a comfortable work chair for hours every day, muscles, joints, and arteries will adapt to this repetitive positioning by changing their cellular makeup and becoming literally ‘stiff,’ with reduced ranges of motion and an actual hardening of the arterial walls in those areas.”
Strange as it may seem, it’s now becoming clear that increasing all forms of general everyday movement is a greater health priority than conducting ambitious workouts. Microworkouts, along with continued devotion to JFW (Just F—ing Walk) takes on increasing importance as daily life gets more effortless. Even if you’re a devoted gym rat, those few hours a week when you’re pushing weight around isn’t enough to combat a lifestyle of commuting, office work, and digital entertainment leisure time. The active couch potato syndrome is a scientifically validated concept revealing that devoted workout enthusiasts who lead otherwise sedentary lifestyles are subject to the same level of disease risk as inactive folks.
Optimizing Movement For the Most Advantageous Genetic Signaling
But none of this is new. A decade ago now Time magazine offered a memorable title, “The Myth Of Exercise.” The story detailed how a strenuous workout (particularly the common workout patterns and strategies of today that can become chronically stressful) depletes cellular energy and prompts a compensatory response in the form of an increased appetite along with decreased activity for the rest of the day. More recently, I wrote about the constrained model of energy expenditure as well as the amazing study of the Hadza that’s helping us reframe the purpose and intended benefits of exercise.
As I’ve been saying since the introduction of the 10 Primal Blueprint Laws over a decade ago, it’s not about the calories but about the movement and the genetic signaling that movement prompts. The Myth of Exercise concept aligns with my longtime assertion that 80% of your body composition success is dependent on your diet—specifically, minimizing the wildly excessive insulin production that happens from a grain-based, high carbohydrate diet and prevents you from burning stored body fat.
How To Incorporate Microworkouts
Armed with the insight to no workout is too short, and any kind of movement delivers a health and fitness benefit, you can elevate micro-workouts to the forefront of your fitness plan. Reject the all or nothing mentality that causes you to fail with fitness commitments because you get too busy with work and life. We all have time for a set or two or three of deep squats during the workday or during leisure time.
Look for opportunities over the course of every day to put your body under some kind of brief resistance load. Even if you only work hard for one minute (or less) at a time but are relatively faithful incorporating these “micro” opportunities into your daily routine, the cumulative effect will still be incredible.
Word of Caution: Going from a prolonged inactive state to a performing a heavy lift carries an obvious risk factor. Truth be told, I generally precede my random sets of pull-ups, deadlifts or even cords by a minute of walking, a few dynamic stretches, or some specific warm-up moves like doing a set with a much lighter weight, followed by a “real” set with a respectable weight. It’s not a lot of time or effort, but it’s a good habit to add the resistance after you’ve been up and doing something for a few minutes (e.g. taking out the garbage, bringing in groceries, finishing an indoor/outdoor chore).
Beyond that, also realize that when you make micro-workouts a daily habit, you’ll discover that you’re much more adaptable to brief explosive efforts without a long warm-up. You’ll be able to pop up from your work desk to hustle down a flight of stairs at work without hearing the creaks and cracks that are so familiar, especially to aging jocks. My longtime writing partner Brad Kearns (our next book will be a comprehensive education and action plan on the topics of longevity—due out in December) swears that his brief morning flexibility/mobility routine. He says it’s transformed his recovery from sprint workouts. No more next-day stiffness and soreness and occasional minor injuries—just because he spends 12 minutes every morning working on drills specific to sprinting that challenge the glutes, hamstrings and core.
Dr. Art DeVany, Ph.D., author of The New Evolution Diet and one of my earliest and greatest inspirations for Primal-inspired health practices, says that the lion never has to stretch before a workout, and we shouldn’t have to either. No, our modern creakiness can be attributed to overtraining patterns (in the case of morning issues) or extended stillness without a movement break when you get up and hobble during the day. Our ancestors most certainly had to run for their lives with zero warning on a routine basis. It’s a good Primal skill to have still.
Micro workouts are also applicable to cardiovascular fitness. A few minutes here and a few minutes there have a similar cumulative effect. Dr. Phil Maffetone explains that any stimulation of the aerobic system, even really low intensity stuff that a hard-core athlete might not choose to count as an official workout, helps improve your cardiovascular health and fitness. There’s really no lower limit to the aerobic exercise zone.
Anytime you get up from a chair and walk, you’re getting an aerobic benefit. A couple minutes recruiting major muscle groups with Stretch Cordz confers a new advantage. A cruise ship analogy works well here. When the floating city is out on the open ocean, cruising at 20 knots en route to the next port, all twelve turbine engines are cranking at full throttle. When it’s cruising in the harbor at two knots in preparation for docking, only a couple turbines are operating at half power. However, the two turbines operating at half speed in the harbor are still being “trained” to perform when they’re called up on in the open ocean. Note: I’ve revised my position on this concept over the years as research filled in the picture. Early on, I used to designate an aerobic zone of 55-75% of maximum heart rate. I’m not saying abandon time in that range, but know that anything outside of it also counts for something, and that should be good news.
If you so much as jump up from your desk, scramble down the stairs and out to your vehicle, then return with a few floors of ascent and back to your desk—total time five minutes and eight seconds. You’ll be turbocharging fat burning, increasing oxygen delivery and blood circulation to the brain, and flooding the bloodstream with neurotransmitters that elevate mood and improve cognitive focus. Similarly, anytime you haul off a set of pushups or squats, you’re making a meaningful contribution to your fitness and longevity.
Every effort, however modest, can be a small win. How does that shift your mindset? How does it open up possibilities for you? Let me know down below, and share any questions you have while you’re at it. Have a great week, everybody.

In the last days of the 19th century, some Jiu-Jitsu masters emigrated from Japan to other continents, teaching the martial arts in addition to taking part in fights and competitors. Mitsuyo Maeda was one such master. Maeda showed up in Brazil in 1915, and settled in Belem do Para, where he satisfied a male called Gastao Gracie.
The dad of 8 children, amongst them five boys and 3 ladies, Gastao became a Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast and brought his earliest child, Carlos, to learn from the Japanese master.
For a naturally frail fifteen-year old Carlos Gracie, Jiu-Jitsu ended up being a method not merely for battling, but for individual enhancement. At nineteen, he relocated to Rio de Janeiro with his family and started teaching and fighting. In his journeys, Carlos would teach classes, and also showed the performance of the art by beating opponents who were physically stronger. In 1925, he went back to Rio and opened the very first school, known as the "Academia Gracie de Jiu-Jitsu."
Jiu Jitsu promotes the idea that a smaller, weaker individual can effectively prevent a bigger, more powerful aggressor by using leverage and appropriate technique.
Jiu-Jitsu constitutes the natural defense the weak individual deals with versus the strong person. It is a sort of leveling process through which strength, faced and controlled by the smart application of reasonable mechanics, is resulted in admitting that the person, usually taken as a body endowed with a soul, ought to really be deemed a soul that takes place to reside in a body. This, nevertheless, no matter what our philosophical or spiritual orientation is, must never suggest disregard or absence of attention towards the body we use in this world. We don't understand, actually, how, in order to reach wisdom, love, or in order to adore and serve God, appreciating His laws, it can be required or possible to damage among His most stunning and ideal animals.
If it is true that the disharmony in our thoughts and sensations can generate physical harm, it is no less true that the care we take with our body reflects not only on that body, however also on the psychological health we all require to attain a harmonious, delighted life.
Of course one does not require unique capabilities to master specific resources of mma, which permit us to protect efficiently. Let us not forget, regardless of, that, no matter what we eagerly anticipate, we will constantly have better chances of reaching it if we utilize our biggest spiritual and physical possibilities. Jiu-Jitsu, which can not escape that peremptory rule, is nothing but its application in self-defense. Being, even more, a sport, and indeed among the most complete, how could it perhaps turn its back on physical preparation?
Without health, in its entire meaning, there can be no total happiness. Extremely often, nevertheless, instead of studying the laws we must appreciate in order to avoid diseases, we are more worried about what is the appropriate medicine or process for fixing the repercussions of our ignorance or mindful offenses.
It is illogical for male, who is the most perfect being to inhabit Earth, to have a shorter life than that of other animals. We are amongst those who fiercely think we need to live more than any irrational being. For that reason, if we compare the current average period of the human life to that of the parrot's, we don't understand why, when among us decides to live a a century, it is something so extraordinary. Think of if, like any elephant or turtle, one of us happened to live up until the age of 2 hundred!
However, as we see it, all that would be really typical if, throughout generations, with odd perseverance, we had not been repeling from the natural laws.
Among other descriptions, for instance, is nutrition. What do we actually learn about how, when, just how much and what to consume in harmony with natural laws?
However let us stop here in the past, my dear reader, your tolerance disappears totally and you, with sensible irony, ask: "And, by the way, what about Jiu-Jitsu?"
You are partly right. Due to the reality that it is, nevertheless, a difficult-- if not impossible-- task, in its amplitude, we won't disregard our duty of alerting you that wanting to understand, solely by means of reading, the tricks of this traditional art of defense and attack is as effective as studying singing by mail.
To you, buddy and reader, my genuine thanks, and we'll see each other again. If I didn't succeed in pleasing you, at least I hope I didn't absolutely dissatisfy you.
The history of Jiu Jitsu in Brazil mainly originates from one male, Mitsuyo Maeda-- known in Brazil as Conde Coma (Count Coma). Maeda was a trainee of Jigoro Kano and his Kodokan School of martial arts. Though Kano is commonly recognized as the father of Judo, his style of mentor was related to in the early days as a branch of Ju Jitsu and not it's own martial design. In fact, Jigoro's branch of Ju Jitsu has actually been diluted from its initial format over the years by consistent changes to Judo's rules and policies.
Mitsuyo Maeda was among Jigoto Kano's star students, and as such he was asked to assist get the word out of his master's style. Maeda travelled all over the globe displaying the art in arenas and circuses, travelling through the United States, England and lots of other nations prior to landing in Brazil. It remained in Brazil that he satisfied trainees such Carlos Gracie. Carlos was a distressed teenager that Maeda took under his wing and taught his style, though Carlos wasn't the only student taught by Count Coma, nor was he the only one to develop his own Jiu Jitsu School, one other student of Maeda likewise spread his seed into Jiu Jitsu's landscape, Luis França. There were other Japanese Jiu Jitsu masters teaching Jiu Jitsu in Brazil who were lesser known, though still relevant to BJJ today, people like Takeo Iano in the North of Brazil and Kazuo Yoshida in Bahia.
What are the benefits of Jiu Jitsu?
The many benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Submission Grappling training consist of:
Self-defense.
Increased versatility.
Enhanced physical fitness, strength and general physical conditioning.
Stress release and enhanced concentration.
Increased confidence.
Carlos Gracie was taught by Master Maeda in the city of Belém do Pará in Brazil, however due to monetary difficulties moved to Rio de Janeiro. Mituyo Maeda likewise moved away returning at some point after to develop a school where his lineage is still very much alive, though he never to see Carlos again. In Rio de Janeiro, 1925 Carlos established his first school of Jiu Jitsu in the Marques de Abrantes Street, number 106. To help out with the school he brought in his bros and taught them his master's art. The bros were: Oswaldo, George, Gastão and Hélio Gracie. Carlos and his bros would go on to promote their academy through a series of difficulties, some with no guidelines, where they would combat guys of any size or weight proving their design's supremacy.
Though Helio ended up being perhaps the most popular family member of the Gracie siblings, it was George Gracie the one that held the family's name greatest competitively from that first generation of Gracie combatants. Helio Gracie did contend successfully also, but his two most famous fights were also his worst beats, to Masahiko Kimura and Waldemar Santana, two fights he lost when he was currently reaching his 40's versus bigger and more youthful guys.
As Carlos Gracie got more included with the business side of the household and George's wild ways separated him from his brothers chain of thought, it was Helio that took duty in keeping the school a tight unit. Helio Gracie was likewise offered the duty of raising the majority of Carlos Gracie's household, teaching them the family martial arts trade. Given that the 1920's the Gracie family has had the ability to produce consistent skill through every generation, making it one of the greatest martial arts family trees on the planet and the greatest amongst mma.
The first steps of MMA were given in the 1920's Brazil and this events were called "Vale Tudo" (anything goes). They were unauthorized bouts with no guidelines (eye gouging and strikes to the groin were enabled) no gloves, no weight categories and most of the times they did not have a time frame either. It remained in these bouts that the Gracie's made their mark and created a name on their own throughout the country. As the sport progressed, a few tweaks were made to these Vale Tudo matches, however no place near what the sport is today.
In the early days, when these matches started happening, Jiu Jitsu's biggest opponent was Luta Livre, a design of submission grappling utilized in Brazil. As the popularity of Vale Tudo grew, so did the rivalry in between these 2 opposing designs, a lot that lots of street fights in between trainees of both martial arts and even Dojo storming prevailed practice.
In the 1984 an attempt to settle the affair was made with the "Jiu Jitsu vs Martial Arts" event being held where numerous important figures of Jiu Jitsu were installed against fighters of other trades (but generally Luta Livre). The result was inconclusive and the unfriendly Banta continued, until 1991, one of the most important occasions in the history of Vale Tudo/MMA was held to choose at last which was the best martial art in Brazil, the name of the occasion was "Desafio-- Jiu-Jitsu vs. Luta Livre" (BJJ vs Luta Livre Challenge). 3 fighters were selected from each style to compete versus each other in a Vale-Tudo match with no time limits, the fighters from BJJ were Wallid Ismail, Murilo Bustamante and Fabio Gurgel versus Eugenio Tadeu, Marcelo Mendes and Denilson Maia from Luta Livre. Jiu Jitsu won all 3 fights, a major plume on the cap of BJJ's neighborhood who ended up being broadly thought about the stronger design, the disagreement in between the two styles had lots of ups and downs, as explained on our "JJ vs Luta Livre" short article, a disagreement that ultimately resulted in the ban of Vale Tudo in Brazil.
youtube
While the Brazilian Vale Tudo panorama was roaring, the very same was not taking place in the United States. It was again through the Gracie household's efforts that the sport was put in its place. The Gracie's had seen a market for their Jiu Jitsu style in America, and they established an academy in California. In trying to prove that their style was the very best martial art available, the Gracie's developed a No Holds Disallowed occasion, the principle being created by Rorion Gracie, this occasion was named Ultimate Combating Championship (UFC), and it had the exact same concept as the Vale Tudo occasions back in Brazil. The very first champ to emerge from this event was Royce Gracie, who later on ended up being a UFC Hall of Popularity. The brand name and the event itself would suffer extreme changes to the rule set, such as the inclusion of gloves, the Robe (Gi) being removed, the time frame and striking limitations added and so on etc. With time the fighters ended up being more well rounded learning all facets of the game. Today, though less appropriate than it was in the past, jiu jitsu brazilian is still one of the most crucial disciplines in the sport.
If the sport began in the United States in the early 1990's, the same seemed to happen in Japan around the same time. Thought about the birth country of Martial Arts, Japan would appear to have a head start when it pertained to No Holds Barred; the Japanese were serious about striking martial arts and ground fighting with their Karate and Kosen Judo schools. Still, when MMA (Vale Tudo) emerged in Japan, another Gracie name rose above all others, the name of Rickson Gracie. Considered by lots of the greatest BJJ competitor of all time, Rickson stayed unbeaten throughout his career, and once again cemented the Gracie name and the Jiu Jitsu style in that country.
(BJJ) is a martial art, battle sport, and a self-defense system that concentrates on grappling and particularly ground fighting. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from early 20th century Kodokan Judo ground battling (Ne-Waza) principles that were taught to Carlos Gracie by master Mitsuyo Maeda. Brazilian jiu-jitsu ultimately happened its own art through the experimentations, practices, and adaptation from the Judo understanding of Carlos who then passed their understanding on to his extended family.
Is Jiu Jitsu helpful for self-defense?
Yes, BJJ is a fantastic sport and fitness activity, but it's also a martial art. Which implies that you require to be able to utilize it to defend yourself. But the good news is that you DON'T need to commit all your training to 'reality' self defense.
BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller sized, weaker individual can effectively prevent a larger, more powerful foe by utilizing leverage and proper strategy, taking the fight to the ground-- most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to beat the other individual. BJJ training can be utilized for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and blended martial arts (MMA) competitors or self-defense. Sparring(typically referred to as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is put on efficiency, specifically in competition, in relation to advance and ascension through its ranking system.
through the terrific popularity of blended martial arts (MMA) competitors, where Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu method is extremely popular. Indeed, the starts of the contemporary MMA competition were mainly consolidated showing the combat-efficiency of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a sport, however, is strongly separated from MMA. Daily classes do not include kicking or punching. The focus is on safe grappling method that can be done every day with no more worry of injury than any other contact sport. While there is an expert MMA group at the Renzo Gracie Academy, the excellent majority of trainees study just the grappling sport and find that this is the most satisfying and rewarding route to take.
Renzo Gracie is a world-renown practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA. He is a senior member of the well-known Gracie family of jiu jitsu instructors and fighters who did so much to change the shape the existing state of martial arts direction in America. He has actually put together an excellent team of a few of the absolute best trainers from Brazil, a lot of whom are members of his renowned family and who teach his system to a huge and ever- growing community and his world popular New york city City Academy. Renzo's popularity and charm is the basis of a genuinely pleasurable place to train, grow and develop your abilities amongst lots of passionate practitioners of the sport, ranging from well-known professional fighters to everyday lovers.
Classes at the academy are taught throughout the day six days a week. They feature a strength and endurance structure warm-up, followed by demonstration and practice of methods after which students participate in live fumbling with other trainees of their own level. It is a genuinely demanding exercise with a strongly cerebral aspect and a sense of purpose and skill that will really record your creativity. Come down to the academy. Come have a look at a class or even better, take one of the introduction classes. We are positive that mma will become one of the most treasured and satisfying elements of your life. It will provide you a self-confidence, knowledge and body-dexterity and fitness that couple of people will ever understand.

In fact, Jigoro's branch of Ju Jitsu has actually been diluted from its initial format throughout the years by consistent changes to Judo's rules and regulations.
What is the distinction between Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a competitors sport. Like Japanese jujitsu, BJJ functions tosses in addition to joint locks and chokes, influenced by competition-orientated judo. ... BJJ focuses on grappling on the floor and features no striking. It is taught generally through live training and competitive sparring, called rolling.
Mitsuyo Maeda was one of Jigoto Kano's star students, and as such he was asked to help spread the word of his master's style. Maeda took a trip all over the world displaying the art in arenas and circuses, travelling through the United States, England and lots of other nations before landing in Brazil. It remained in Brazil that he met students such Carlos Gracie. Carlos was a struggling teenager that Maeda took under his wing and taught his design, though Carlos wasn't the only trainee taught by Count Coma, nor was he the only one to develop his own Jiu Jitsu School, another student of Maeda also spread his seed into Jiu Jitsu's landscape, Luis França. There were other Japanese Jiu Jitsu masters teaching Jiu Jitsu in Brazil who were lower recognized, though still pertinent to BJJ today, people like Takeo Iano in the North of Brazil and Kazuo Yoshida in Bahia.
Carlos Gracie was taught by Master Maeda in the city of Belém do Pará in Brazil, but due to monetary troubles transferred to Rio de Janeiro. Mituyo Maeda also moved away returning sometime after to develop a school where his lineage is still very much alive, though he never ever to see Carlos again. In Rio de Janeiro, 1925 Carlos established his very first school of Jiu Jitsu in the Marques de Abrantes Street, number 106. To assist with the school he generated his siblings and taught them his master's art. The siblings were: Oswaldo, George, Gastão and Hélio Gracie. Carlos and his brothers would go on to promote their academy through a series of difficulties, some without any guidelines, where they would fight guys of any size or weight proving their style's supremacy.
Though Helio became possibly the most popular relative of the Gracie brothers, it was George Gracie the one that held the household's name highest competitively from that very first generation of Gracie contenders. Helio Gracie did contend effectively likewise, however his two most well-known battles were likewise his worst beats, to Masahiko Kimura and Waldemar Santana, 2 fights he lost when he was currently reaching his 40's against larger and more youthful men.
As Carlos Gracie got more involved with the business side of the family and George's wild methods separated him from his siblings chain of thought, it was Helio that took obligation in keeping the school a tight unit. Helio Gracie was also offered the obligation of raising the majority of Carlos Gracie's home, teaching them the family martial arts trade. It was in these bouts that the Gracie's made their mark and produced a name for themselves throughout the nation. As the sport advanced, a couple of tweaks were made to these Vale Tudo matches, but nowhere near what the sport is today.
In the early days, when these matches began occurring, Jiu Jitsu's biggest opponent was Luta Livre, a style of submission grappling utilized in Brazil. As the appeal of Vale Tudo grew, so did the competition in between these two opposing designs, a lot that numerous street fights in between students of both martial arts and even Dojo storming were common practice.
In the 1984 an attempt to settle the affair was made with the "Jiu Jitsu vs Martial Arts" event being held where several essential figures of Jiu Jitsu were set up versus fighters of other trades (but primarily Luta Livre). The result was inconclusive and the hostile Banta continued, up until 1991, among the most crucial occasions in the history of Vale Tudo/MMA was held to decide at last which was the very best martial art in Brazil, the name of the occasion was "Desafio-- Jiu-Jitsu vs. Luta Livre" (BJJ vs Luta Livre Obstacle). 3 fighters were chosen from each style to contend versus each other in a Vale-Tudo match without any time limits, the fighters from BJJ were Wallid Ismail, Murilo Bustamante and Fabio Gurgel versus Eugenio Tadeu, Marcelo Mendes and Denilson Maia from Luta Livre. If the sport began in the US in the early 1990's, the exact same seemed to take place in Japan around the exact same time. Considered the birth nation of Martial Arts, Japan would appear to have a head start when it pertained to No Holds Barred; the Japanese were serious about striking martial arts and ground battling with their Karate and Kosen Judo schools. Though Kano is widely acknowledged as the dad of Judo, his design of mentor was regarded in the early days as a branch of Ju Jitsu and not it's own martial design. In fact, Jigoro's branch of Ju Jitsu has actually been diluted from its initial format for many years by constant modifications to Judo's rules and guidelines.
What is the distinction between Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a competition sport. Like Japanese jujitsu, BJJ features throws as well as joint locks and chokes, affected by competition-orientated judo. ... BJJ focuses on grappling on the floor and includes no striking. It is taught mainly through live training and competitive sparring, called rolling.
Mitsuyo Maeda was among Jigoto Kano's star students, and as such he was asked to assist get the word out of his master's style. Maeda took a trip all over the world showing the art in arenas and circuses, travelling through the United States, England and many other countries prior to landing in Brazil. It remained in Brazil that he fulfilled students such Carlos Gracie. Carlos was a distressed teenager that Maeda took under his wing and taught his style, though Carlos wasn't the only student taught by Count Coma, nor was he the only one to establish his own Jiu Jitsu School, one other student of Maeda also spread his seed into Jiu Jitsu's landscape, Luis França. There were other Japanese Jiu Jitsu masters teaching Jiu Jitsu in Brazil who were lower recognized, though still pertinent to BJJ today, people like Takeo Iano in the North of Brazil and Kazuo Yoshida in Bahia.
Carlos Gracie was taught by Master Maeda in the city of Belém do Pará in Brazil, however due to financial problems moved to Rio de Janeiro. Mituyo Maeda likewise moved away returning sometime after to establish a school where his lineage is still quite alive, though he never ever to see Carlos once again. In Rio de Janeiro, 1925 Carlos developed his first school of Jiu Jitsu in the Marques de Abrantes Street, number 106. To help out with the school he brought in his siblings and taught them his master's art. The brothers were: Oswaldo, George, Gastão and Hélio Gracie. Carlos and his bros would go on to promote their academy through a series of challenges, some with no guidelines, where they would fight guys of any size or weight proving their design's superiority.
Though Helio ended up being perhaps the most famous member of the family of the Gracie siblings, it was George Gracie the one that held the household's name greatest competitively from that very first generation of Gracie contenders. Helio Gracie did complete effectively likewise, but his 2 most well-known fights were likewise his worst beats, to Masahiko Kimura and Waldemar Santana, 2 battles he lost when he was currently reaching his 40's against larger and more youthful men.
As Carlos Gracie got more involved with business side of the family and George's wild ways separated him from his siblings chain of thought, it was Helio that took duty in keeping the school a tight system. Helio Gracie was also given the duty of raising the majority of Carlos Gracie's home, teaching them the household martial arts trade. Given that the 1920's the Gracie family has been able to produce consistent skill through every generation, making it one of the greatest martial arts family trees worldwide and the strongest amongst mixed martial arts.
The initial steps of MMA were given in the 1920's Brazil and this events were called "Vale Tudo" (anything goes). They were unsanctioned bouts with no guidelines (eye gouging and strikes to the groin were allowed) no gloves, no weight categories and the majority of the times they did not have a time limit either. It remained in these bouts that the Gracie's made their mark and produced a name for themselves throughout the nation. As the sport advanced, a few tweaks were made to these Vale Tudo matches, but no place near what the sport is today.
In the early days, when these matches started happening, Jiu Jitsu's biggest challenger was Luta Livre, a design of submission grappling used in Brazil. As the appeal of Vale Tudo grew, so did the rivalry between these 2 opposing styles, so much that lots of street battles between students of both martial arts and even Dojo storming were common practice.
In the 1984 an attempt to settle the affair was made with the "Jiu Jitsu vs Martial Arts" occasion being held where numerous important figures of Jiu Jitsu were put up against fighters of other trades (but primarily Luta Livre). The outcome was undetermined and the unfriendly Banta continued, until 1991, one of the most important events in the history of Vale Tudo/MMA was held to choose at last which was the best martial art in Brazil, the name of the event was "Desafio-- Jiu-Jitsu vs. Luta Livre" (BJJ vs Luta Livre Difficulty). 3 fighters were picked from each design to compete against each other in a Vale-Tudo match with no time frame, the fighters from BJJ were Wallid Ismail, Murilo Bustamante and Fabio Gurgel against Eugenio Tadeu, Marcelo Mendes and Denilson Maia from Luta Livre. Jiu Jitsu won all 3 battles, a significant plume on the cap of BJJ's neighborhood who ended up being broadly thought about the stronger style, the disagreement between the two styles had numerous ups and downs, as described on our "JJ vs Luta Livre" post, a dispute that ultimately resulted in the restriction of Vale Tudo in Brazil.
While the Brazilian Vale Tudo panorama was roaring, the very same was not happening in the United States. It was again through the Gracie family's efforts that the sport was put in its place. The Gracie's had actually seen a market for their Jiu Jitsu design in America, and they developed an academy in California. In trying to show that their style was the best martial art available, the Gracie's established a No Holds Barred event, the concept being created by Rorion Gracie, this occasion was called Ultimate Combating Champion (UFC), and it had the same concept as the Vale Tudo events back in Brazil. The very first champ to emerge from this occasion was Royce Gracie, who later ended up being a UFC Hall of Fame. The brand name and the event itself would suffer serious modifications to the guideline set, such as the inclusion of gloves, the Robe (Gi) being stripped, the time frame and striking restrictions added and so on etc. With time the fighters became more well rounded finding out all aspects of the video game. Today, though less relevant than it was in the past, mma fighting is still one of the most crucial disciplines in the sport.
If the sport began in the US in the early 1990's, the exact same appeared to occur in Japan around the same time. Thought about the birth nation of Martial Arts, Japan would seem to have a head start when it pertained to No Holds Disallowed; the Japanese were serious about striking martial arts and ground fighting with their Karate and Kosen Judo schools. Still, when MMA (Vale Tudo) emerged in Japan, another Gracie name rose above all others, the name of Rickson Gracie. Considered by many the best BJJ rival of all time, Rickson stayed unbeaten throughout his career, and once again cemented the Gracie name and the Jiu Jitsu style in that nation.
(BJJ) is a martial art, battle sport, and a self-defense system that concentrates on grappling and especially ground battling. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from early 20th century Kodokan Judo ground fighting (Ne-Waza) fundamentals that were taught to Carlos Gracie by master Mitsuyo Maeda. Brazilian jiu-jitsu ultimately became its own art through the experimentations, practices, and adjustment from the Judo knowledge of Carlos who then passed their understanding on to his extended family.
BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker individual can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assaulter by utilizing leverage and proper strategy, taking the fight to the ground-- most especially by using joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other individual. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling competitions (gi and no-gi) and blended martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring(frequently described as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on efficiency, specifically in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through its ranking system.
