#skypeia#one piece#& like it gives a very strong sense of coherence to op’s political themes in part BECAUSE oda has the balls to take the genre his story#largely occupies & examine the actual brutalities (colonialism resource exploitation etc) that was prevalent both in the era of pirates &#adventure stories’ height of relevance & he actually acknowledges & examines them & gives dignity & agency to those harmed by it.#like the plot is well-written yes but the purpose that plot serves is i’d argue foundational to the very core of op itself#in a similar manner to where many say arlong park is where op first showed it’s emotional potential i’d say arlong park through skypeia is#where oda finds his footing with how he approaches & executes political themes within his work.#shout out to skypeia my beautiful wonderful brilliant bestie
