man the scg scaling back all its content thing really is a bummer bc like. while i know “magic is dying” is a meme & all that. i really really value having the competitive angle of content creation, and losing that does actually feel like it could sunset my interest in magic. my main engagement with the game is through competitive articles, podcasts, videos & so on that go deep into metagame developments and the strategy and theoretical part of the game, bc thats the thing thats the most interesting to me, way more than actually playing at this point. if thats totally lost its gonna be a huge bummer, and if the resulting world is one where 95% of mtg content is vorthos and commander and “community drama” stuff... its just not for me :/
#im not rly looking to point fingers over it bc honestly looking back#its kind of amazing that competitive content was able to exist through 2 years of covid without any major in person tournaments#and also the rough patch that was 60 card formats in 2020 and part of 2021#but man it just sucks!#& i know theres comp streamers and discords out there but. those arent for me. what i liked was being able to read an article on the bus or#listen to a podcast at work. the format is actually kind of a big deal for me. i dont rly enjoy watching streams or being in public discords#and those things are also geared more towards how to win within a specific metagame eg what cards decks are good right now#which can be interesting but like. im much more interested in the overall theory derived from those snapshots and that requires a different#kind of content to explore that
