You were excited when Jay invited you on a trip him and a couple of his friends were going on. You had started seeing each other recently, but it was all very casual so you even hesitated to consider dating each other. Plus, half of the people around Jay thought you were just a friend.

On the day of the trip, you texted Jay, telling him how excited you were. You waited for his reply, but you never got one.

Unfortunately, you didn't run into him all day either. When you went to the kitchen of your Airbnb to get some water, you saw Jay's friend sitting there all by himself. You didn't remember Jay mentioning he would be coming along too.

It looked like everyone else was avoiding him all day long as well, and suddenly you felt sorry for the guy.

"Everything okay?" You asked while reaching for a bottle of water.

His head immediately shot up and he grinned at you.

"Hey, I was hoping to get to talk to you in private."

You furrowed your eyebrows but he didn't seem to catch on. You barely knew him, what was there to talk about?

"Are you having fun?" He asked casually.

"Sure, I mean, what's not to like?"

"Right? And the beach looks lovely too. Too bad we arrived here after sunset, I'd love to spend as much time on the beach as possible."

"Do you surf? You look like you surf."

Full of confidence he puffed up his chest, smiling brightly.

"I mean, I'm not a pro, but I can stay on the board long enough to catch a wave."

"That's impressive, I've always wanted to try it!"

"How about you join me tomorrow? I can teach you a thing or two." He concluded, winking, and you couldn't help but laugh.

From the corner of your eye you saw a shadow approaching but then it disappeared.

"I better get back to the others, or they might die of thirst." You excused yourself, pointing at the water bottles you were cradling in your arms.

"Where is everybody?" You asked Jay, when you stood on the patio. He was the only one left and he looked pissed off.

Jay shrugged, saying that they already went to their rooms.

You countered that it may had something to do with his foul mood.

"My mood was fine until I came to look for you!"

You realized you weren't hallucinating when you noticed the shadowy figure lurking earlier.

"What? Are you spying on me now?"

"Why did you have to talk to him?"

"Because the rest of you were ignoring him!"

"For good reason! Did you know that he likes you? Constantly asks about you whenever you're not there?"

"I didn't. But even if I did, so what?"

"I don't like it! Don't talk to him again!"

Your eyes transformed into thin slits as you approached Jay slowly. You didn't like it when men viewed you as their property and Jay had been easygoing and drama-free so far.

"You don't like it? Jay, I'm not your property. I can talk to whomever I want!"

He snorted, looking away from you, and your anger intensified even more.

"What's your problem, huh? Don't like it when other people touch your toys?"

"You're not a toy!"

"We've been doing so well, why do you have to ruin it?"

"Maybe I'm tired of this ... whatever this thing is we've got goin on!"

"Then you shouldn't have invited me on this trip!"

"But I wanted you here! I just didn't know he would be here too."

"I thought I made myself clear. You were the one who said we should take things slow. It's you who has the trust issues, if you want to assume everybody is betraying you, that's fine, but I told you from the beginning, I'm not like that. I don't play around!"

"Why didn't you leave then? Or at least told him not to hit on you?"

"Because I had no idea he was interested in me! I just now heard it from you."

"Whatever!" Jay scoffed, storming off, leaving you behind.

That night in your room you thought about leaving, thought about packing your bags and leave before anyone got up. You knew Jay was the jealous type and it would take time and convincing to get him to trust you, but you had no idea he was paranoid too.

The next morning, it was you who suggested to go to the beach for the day. At one point you went and sat next to Jay's friend, making sure that Jay was not only looking at you but was also within earshot.

"It's nice, isn't it?"

"Sure. I just thought that it would only be the two of us."

"I don't see you like that, I'm sorry! You must've realized that Jay and I have something going on. As his friend, you shouldn't try to steal his girl, but encourage him and have his back!"

You felt awful saying that, realizing that every conversation around you had died down, with everyone listening in on you.

Jay's friend nodded his head slowly before he got up and walked off.

"You happy?"

You spat at Jay before walking away in the opposite direction, hoping Jay would go after you to apologize.

Either that or you would end things with him since you really didn't need any drama in your life.
