Beginning my journey
For the past 5 weeks, I’ve been generally reviewing MCAT material for mainly the Biological Systems and Psychology sections. With my degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry at UC Berkeley, I realized quickly how behind and unprepared I was in these subjects. My math brain is in a lot of distress with this amount of memorizing haha. But on I go in pursuing my dreams of becoming a physician.
This week began my 15 week countdown till the MCAT test date. Up to this day, I have been preparing by reading (a shit ton) of blogs, forums, and tips from various sources and today is when I really sit down and decide what system I want to go with for my studies.
I will be taking a MCAT prep course for the next two months with The Berkeley Review, primarily from Friday-Sunday. I’m trying to navigate the schedule of the course with my own self study schedule, which is probably the main reason why I have been struggling with my preparation organization–but here I go.
I have gotten exposure to the biological systems in the MCAT thus far, so I think it will be sufficient to leave those passages off until I review them in the TBR course. I will be taking notes in my composition book as I go, and discussing my passage answers and questions in there as well. If time permits, I will condense these notes into 1 blank page for each section. I will attempt 3-5 passages on each section I review from the TBR books, Khan Academy, or Kaplan books. After these passages, I will review them thoroughly until I completely understand them. I will conclude the day with various Biology and Psychology flashcards in my free time.
Something I really need to work on is restricting work to 1 subject PER DAY. Since I have been working, I have been behind and squeezing 2 subjects in one day which doesn’t allow me to entirely understand the material before moving on.
