To begin our Companions Week, let us first reacquaint ourselves with the Veilguard.

I made the skin retex in general darker so it would work better for all skin colors. I made some changes as well to meshes and records to allow at least two skin sets, unique diffuse, normal and spec maps. There aren't many skins that truly consider black people. I wanted to work against racism and the whitewashing of skins and black and brown people in general. The racism executed from Bethesda themselves, but as well the racism executed from other mod authors.

And I want to name it as such, because that's what it is. Because we often avoid to name it by it's name. To prevent confrontation and conflict. That's my privilege as a white woman. I can avoid. Black people can't. They have a pathetic small list of skin retex they can use that truly work for Redguards. The Black People of Skyrim. And that's the result of systemic racism. If you like it or not. And if your skin texture that's meant to be a skin overhaul for Skyrim doesn't include to work at least better than the original for darker skins, then that's racist. Simple as that. Because you can get away with it. That's your privilege.

I just read this comment on a new skin on nexus as a reply to someone pointing out that the skin in it's form is NOT supporting darker skin colors.

And that's racism. Simple. Heart breaking, horrible racism. I read that comment and imagined how black and brown people feel when they read this reply. Not only are they again excluded from an amazing new skin, no they have to read this racist bullshit. And it has to stop. We really need to be better. We really need to do better. It has to stop for those who already have endured enough.

Needless to say, every Redguard woman in game gets whitewashed, too. Representation matters.

And because I always like to be as inclusive as possible, I tried to keep the lips pretty pale on the texture itself, because I wanted to make black people with albinism/hypopigmentation felt included. So the skin texture would work for both ways.
