the thing is people who think she’s still in love with (or in fact ever truly loved) mh can’t understand the story she’s actually telling which is: she retreated into the secret gardens of the her mind to deal with the disappointments and hurt of her relationship with joe, created a whole version of mh that wasn’t anywhere close to reality, went to him after leaving joe in complete denial that she was at rock bottom, and then one day opened her eyes and realized not only was she at rock bottom, but she had been left there completely pulverized by him. she was vulnerable, she was yearning for something real, he pretended to give it to her just to leave her. she had to completely build herself back up from scratch, to let herself still believe in love, still believe that she was worthy of it, and when she finally started rising to that place again she met travis. and THAT is why it’s different with him. she’s stronger, she’s accepting the good things in her life and keeping out the bullshit, and she’s moving forward by forgiving herself for her past and embracing the future with someone who wants to give her that love and support her in her strength (this is what the alchemy is about btw, which is also why they cannot wrap their minds around this song). everything about mh was manipulative, toxic and unhealthy and it has been completely purged from her life.
