I want to just bring up the reason why these selfie nights started and continue to exist to this day. These are a just handful of asks from just a few nights ago. This fandom is extremely racist. It is. There’s no getting around it. You may not see it, it may not affect you personally, but it’s here. This type of talk is not okay. And I know that this is the Internet. Asks can be deleted. Anonymous can be turned off. But that isn’t the point. The point is that this shit shouldn’t be happening. It’s not fair that we can’t even have one safe space on the web to escape from the real life racist bullshit that we have to deal with on the daily. It’s not fair that some white fans get so angry at the thought of black people being here, listening to Taylor. What, you don’t want to share her? Grow up.
This fandom is majority rules white. There’s no getting around that fact. I just wish some of you could be kinder. Sending these kinds of messages to black bloggers who are just minding our business is not okay. Standing around and just watching black bloggers get this kind of violently racist hate is not okay. Being a person of color in this fandom is exhausting at times. It’s downright terrible. These are just asks that I’ve received/one that I’ve seen in just the last week. I’ve had this blog for years. I’ve been called the n word, I’ve seen my friends and people I admire get called the n word, to go hang, to go die, that Taylor doesn’t love us. It’s sickening. I know this fandom is full of trolls who think getting a rise out of people is funny, but this isn’t the way to do it. We don’t deserve this. So if you’re wondering why selfie nights became a thing, still are a thing, and why they “have to clog your dash every month”, it’s because we as people of color deserve one night where we get to feel beautiful and appreciated by our peers in a space where we’re constantly reminded how much we don’t truly belong in.
