When sifting through the array of footage I had gathered it almost turned into a compulsive, obsessive task. It was interesting to note that although Sheldon’s laugh is unique he has different types of laughs which become more evident the more you listen to them. You obsess over it and it bothers you that it’s not a certain way and you end up narrowing  down the laugh to a specific category.

Processes, Methods:
The processes and methods in making my supercut were fairly straightforward from a technical standpoint – watch the Big Bang, find laugh and cut it all together – however the actual labour component of the work was extensive and very time consuming.
I started off with watching clips on YouTube with Sheldon laughing. I searched “Sheldon Laughing” “Sheldon Laughing Compilation” and “Sheldon best moments”. From all these clips however I only found about 10 seconds worth of laughing which was quite discouraging but I continued to dig. I watch the “best of the big bang theory” from season 1 all through to season 8 and managed to pick up a few more laughs. However, I still lacked and I knew there must have been more so ended up driving to the video store and taking out seasons 4 and 7 which I watched all the way through. I managed to find a few additional laughs aswell as additional fill in footage to add story elements to my video.
I had documented each instance a laugh occurred by season, episode and scene. I had found the material and now I needed to physically attain it. I download each individual episode that a laugh had occurred in in order to obtain the best quality version of each clip and then began to sift through each and cut out the part I wanted. I used windows movie maker.

Final Video: Inspiration
In deciding on a video to supercut, I wanted to make something simple yet unique. I watched a ton of short supercuts on YouTube in hope of finding some inspirational. Here’s a list of the videos I navigated through and which I found particularly interesting:
Nooooooo!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek2IZlyAwwM&list=UUzJPgsWMXKsa5dv_zRlD2VQ
Countdown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ3SDs-ymL4&list=UUzJPgsWMXKsa5dv_zRlD2VQ
Rocky 1 -6 every punch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwu6au8cG7o&index=36&list=UUzJPgsWMXKsa5dv_zRlD2VQ
I liked these clips as they each demonstrated a sort of storyline. They weren’t just cliché Supercuts that complied together cliché clips from a series of different sources; they flowed to make a story. It was as if each clip was connected to each other and worked in harmony with the next to ultimately allow people to engage and follow along as if watching a short film.
I then came across these next two clips:
Will Smith Making Noises https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbNznxvmw-o
Wilhelm Scream Compilation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YDpuA90KEY
Both of these got me thinking of an idea for my supercut. What they had in common was that the both emphasized on a specific and unique sound; sounds that only Will Smith could make; a specific type of scream. I then jogged my memory for a unique trait or sound that was specific to someone or something yet exhausted myself with no ideas. It then came to me whilst I was watching the Big Bang Theory on TV. Sheldon – a person that acts in a very specific and unconventional manner. What was particularly unique to him? Of course, his laugh!

First glitch by datamosh!
Datamosh: The act of removing and or replacing the I-frames (delta keyframes) and or P-frames from a compressed video datastream causing the playback image and motion-vector data to distort with unpredictable & glitched results resulting in trippy, safe & legal LSD-like visuals.

Ryoji Ikeda's Test Pattern
" Test pattern is a system that converts any type of data (text, sounds, photos and movies) into barcode patterns and binary patterns of 0s and 1s. Through its application, the project aims to examine the relationship between critical points of device performance and the threshold of human perception. "

Samuel Monnier:
" The theme of my work is complexity. Most of the natural objects around us display an amazing visual complexity. The bark of a trunk, a rocky cliff, the surface of a planet; they all show lush details and omnipresent fractal structures, which make their visual richness and beauty. The limitations of traditional art media have always made it difficult for artist to capture this characteristic feature of our visual experience. In contrast, the power of algorithmic and generative techniques allow producing highly elaborate abstract images. The main aim of my work is to explore this amazing richness of patterns and structures, in an attempt to capture the essence of visual complexity. A technique I have been developing for many years is called pattern piling. Copies of a simple pattern are created at various size scales and are merged together. More recent images are obtained by the iteration of certain conformal maps of the sphere having everywhere dense chaotic orbits. The common point of these techniques is that they yield images so complex that they could never have been imagined, let alone realized, by a bare human mind. Each of them forms a little abstract world, an algorithmic world, where shapes and colors are combined according to simple rules, yielding rich structures in which the observer's eye can wander and get lost. "
