Another anon got me wondering, how is a shiny mimikyu a shiny if they were a costume? are they just better at finding sparkly cloth?

For the shiny genes, it's the actual Mimikyu or their "true" body the one that causes the sparkles! Unfortunately, the shiny gene usually also affects their color perception, so their costumes end up lookin' "off". That's why when they mimic other 'mons, their color still looks a bit different even when they change disguises!
