➶ “THAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT SMALL TOWNS –––– WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING, SOMEBODY ELSE DOES”➶
a small town of 5,237 people, to an outsider, sweetwater, tennessee just seems like any other all american, stereotypical small town, usa. but to the people living here, it’s much more than that. it’s a town of rivalries, of games, of secrets and most of all - division.
since it’s founding in 1875, a long strip of railroad tracks divided the town into two separate neighborhoods, oak haven and willow park. and ever since then, oak haven has been home to the richest people in town and willow park has been home to the middle class and the poor. the divide was so severe that whenever one would cross into the territory of the other, all hell would break loose and it would cause a war amongst the people.
of course, one hundred and forty two years later, things aren’t as severe as they were back then. people from oak haven can walk across the tracks into willow park for a night out in one of their bars and people from willow park who want their children to have a better life can enroll them in oak haven’s prestigious catholic high school, but the social hierarchy still exists. if you have money, you live in oak haven an if you don’t have as much money, you live in willow park.
from the rivalries of the town’s two high schools to the rivalry of the adult business owners and the locals in general, sweetwater, tennessee is anything but sweet and the only thing that’ll ever define you is your side of the tracks.
