Jaime & Brienne - A study in Hands

so i lost my damn mind on twitter about jaime being jealous of tormund and i figured why not post it here too

so here’s the thing

jaime simultaneously feels sure tormund and brienne isn’t a thing because lol ofc not, but still cannot let it go and keeps pushing it (YOU DIDN’T DRINK! YOU DIDN’T DRINK! THE GAME!) because he just needs to know absolutely FOR SURE and it’s driving him nuts

he spent that entire fireside convo in 8x02 STARING AT HER REACTIONS TO TORMUND. every time tormund did something jaime looked at brienne because he’s utterly besotted with her but he DOESN’T KNOW IF SHE IS WITH HIM? he doesn’t know if this dude has actually managed to worm his way into her affections or her bed?

like, there’s a huge uncertainty there for him, so, he looks shocked when she says she would be willing to fight beside him in front of everyone! and when he comes up to her while she’s monitoring the troops/podrick, he punks out of telling her why he really came to winterfell after that long, long stare at her expectant but also confused and suspicious face!

jaime knows there’s SOMETHING between them, but she’s just so Good and Honorable he’s sort of also in this constant state of disbelief that she could really think well enough of him to return his love (not just think he’s CAPABLE of honorable/good acts because she’s seen it but believe that it’s WHO he is)

and then here’s this fucking clown wildling, this ridiculous buffoon, but a buffoon who’s also COMPLETELY UPFRONT about wanting brienne, which jaime has NEVER BEEN ABLE TO BE. so it gets into his head which is already a hot mess of “I CAME HERE MOSTLY JUST TO DIE NEAR HER BUT NOW WE LIVED?!?! IS THERE A CHANCE? COULD SHE? COULD WE AFTER ALL THIS?”

and then they’re having this wonderful time and laughing and gazing at each other and he wants her SO MUCH, then tyrion says the thing and she CLAMS UP but she doesn’t drink to confirm that tyrion is correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he’s not going to let tormund go after her, but HE ALSO DOESN’T GO TO HER IMMEDIATELY

he fucking WAITS and DRINKS MORE and DRIVES HIMSELF CRAZY WITH BOTH WANTING HER, THINKING THAT IT’S POSSIBLE, AND NEEDING TO KNOW IF SHE WANTS HIM BACK IN EVERY WAY until he just can’t anymore and has to go and bang on her door and yell like a crazy person YOU DIDN’T DRINK (why didn’t you drink????? was it just embarrassment or was it that tyrion was wrong????)

and even after she clearly WANTS him sexually, after she starts undressing them both he still hasn’t let it go because obviously it’s not just about sexual desire. he loves her and wants her to love him so when she finally says it outright he can manage one more quip before he just DEVOURS HER mid-sentence 

because when she says that she never has before, it means that she isn’t just doing this for the physical because he knows SHE HAD THE CHANCE TO FUCK IF SHE JUST WANTED TO FUCK.

it means she’s doing this because it’s him and she returns his love.

*I’ve been working on this for two days

Initially, I thought I would write a long, drawn out post about the episode as a whole. There is a lot to discuss and I have lots of feelings about it all. I decided against it because though I am fond of most of the characters on this show, there is one, in particular, that has my heart, and I do believe I will love them for the rest of my life.

Ser Brienne of Tarth. In this potentially long, rambling post, I will discuss what she endured in this episode, and how it relates to things she’s endured in the past and how said things will affect her future. There will be heavy mentions of Ser Jaime Lannister and Braime. (Yes, I ship it, no I don’t hate him).  Any GIFs used in this post are not mine, and neither are the characters because if they were, I would treat them so much better.
