True! Honestly there are very few pieces of media that represent these women correctly. And many of them also do a disservice to the women they're portraying.

Women couldn’t act like a modern day woman because of the circumstances they lived in - they had to find small ways to rebel and to be happy with their lot. Many noblewomen would simply like to learn or read at a time when it wasn’t normal for them to do so. Some would have opinions and discuss them with their family. But the idea that they had to be physically strong, that they had to try to make a change in society in order to be considered “a strong woman" does a disservice to all women who did make strides throughout history.

I'm getting so sick of major female characters in historical media being incredibly feisty, outspoken and public defenders of women's rights with little to no realistic repercussions. Yes it feels like pandering, yes it's unrealistic and takes me out of the story, yes the dialogue almost always rings false - but beyond all that I think it does such a disservice to the women who lived during those periods. I'm not embarrassed of the women in history who didn't use every chance they had to Stick It To The Man. I'm not ashamed of women who were resigned to or enjoyed their lot in life. They weren't letting the side down by not having and representing modern gender ideals. It says a lot about how you view average ordinary women if the idea of one of your main characters behaving like one makes them seem lame and uninteresting to you.

So Alicent had an existential crisis in the woods and ended up with Rhaenyra

Why didn’t she tell Helaena do they could pack gold and valuables, grab Jaehaera and go

The situation makes no sense… why would Alicent try to make peace after years believing Rhaenyra as queen would mean her children dead? After Daemon ordered her grandson's murder? And why would she even accept having Aegon killed, confirming her fears?

Again, the parallels - young Rhaenyra wanted to go away with Alicent and now older Alicent wants it

You're so sweet! The first one's in-progress but it's Daemon/OC, it'll definitely become a bit toxic later on but at the moment, they've been married two years and it was the Stepstones so Daemon had other things worry about. It's a slight crossover with Harry Potter. I have the links for the chapters in my profile.

My other fic is going to be multi pairing, with many changes since it'll start during Jaehaerys' reign. My first OC will be Rhaena Targaryen's daughter with Androw Farman and later on, focus will shift onto her daughter. Viserys and Daemon will both be a lot different people because my OC will actually make Baelon step up and be a parent after Alyssa dies instead of leaving them to be raised by the nurses and maesters and Alysanne (my impression reading F&B was that Baelon sort of disconnected after Alyssa died). Gael will also have a happier fate and Aemma will die because of her health, not because of a forced c-section. I hope I'll manage to start posting Act One soon. It'll be kind of a "the more things change, the more they stay the same" fic

Well, first of all, in the book Mondancer wasn’t big enough to ride at the beginning of the Dance. And, Rhaenyra is showing herself as a bad stepmother — she won’t allow Jace to patrol KL when he’s older and a more experienced dragon rider, but will allow Baela to do so when at this point she’s a more attractive hostage to take after B&C and the confession of Daemon having arranged it.

"Laena's death in the book was a dragon rider's death. She died trying to get to her beloved Vhagar one last time. The tweak they should have made was that she actually made it to Vhagar, or Daemon helped her and took her for one last flight" completely! I was so glad when I found a fic where Daemon finds her when she's looking for Vhagar and she actually dies while they're flying on Caraxes, with Vhagar flying alongside them.

Many of the changes the show made were honestly unnecessary and this was one of them and I worry it will also make Rhaenyra's death be interpreted differently -- for all that she was burned in the books, Sunfyre was so injured he only roused when they cut her breast, only making it more clear that she died because she was a woman fighting for what she'd been promised and the sexism behind the dance as a whole. I honestly don't have a lot of hope for how they will continue to adapt women's deaths in the show.

it was uncomfortable to watch laena burn herself to death while knowing she did not in the book and while i can seperate the book and the show it feels weird to have made her a black woman but to give her a much more horrific death and life in general
