I work at a restaurant and nothing will ever beat the time this woman threw an absolute hissy fit at brunch because we ran out of home fries and all we had were french fries, she yelled at me, she demanded to speak to my manager, and when she’s in the middle of complaining, my manager just stopped her and went “hey do you want a hug?” and this woman went “what?” and my manager was like “you just seem super upset about the shape of these potatoes and I thought maybe you needed a hug” fucking hysterical, I got to watch a human blue screen in real life, absolutely the best way to shame someone for their nonsense I’ve ever seen

I wasn't expecting SHINee news regarding their contracts with SM - but I think it's the perfect timing.

You can tell when SM gives their older group mainstream music, just to give them any activity at all. That's what I thought about Exo's latest album and also SHINee's.

I'm a Shawol since 2011 and the Hard album was the most boring thing to me ever. I call it the Super Junior effect. Especially SM boy groups are effected by this phenomenon. Even NCT is kind of stuck. All songs kind of sound the same now.

Taemin might not have that much difficulty building his career elsewhere (though you can never be sure about that), but I'm worried for Key, Minho and Onew out of experience what happened to the most members of other groups. Got7 is a good example. Staying relevant is hard when you try to pursue a career on your own in K-Pop.

Update: SM Entertainment Shares Update On SHINee’s Contracts

Updated March 5 KST:

SM Entertainment has shared a statement regarding SHINee’s contracts.

Regarding the previous reports, the agency shared, “SHINee’s activities will continue at SM Entertainment without change, and contracts for individual activities will be decided according to each member’s wishes.”

SM continued, “We are positively discussing with Minho and Key about not only group activities but also individual activities, and Onew is exploring various options. Our exclusive contract with Taemin expires in March. Taemin’s next course of action following his contract expiration has not been confirmed yet, and we heard that he is considering various options.”

SM Entertainment’s exclusive contracts with SHINee’s Taemin and Onew will reportedly be expiring soon.

On March 5, News1 reported that Taemin’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment will expire by the end of the month. Following the expiration of his contract, Taemin will reportedly continue his activities as an artist under a new agency but continue his group activities with SHINee under SM Entertainment. YTN additionally reported that according to multiple industry insiders, Onew will also wrap up his exclusive contract with SM in the first half of the year.

Furthermore, SPOTV News reported that Taemin will be signing with Big Planet Made Entertainment.

In response to the report of recruiting Taemin into their agency, a representative of Big Planet Made briefly remarked, “Nothing has been decided.”

Onew and Taemin debuted as members of SHINee in 2008, and they have been working together with SM Entertainment for 16 years following multiple contract renewals. SHINee released countless hit songs including “Replay,” “Ring Ding Dong,” “Sherlock,” and more. In addition to their group activities, Onew charmed with his solo music including “O (Circle)” and “Blue,” while Taemin captivated fans as a solo artist with “Move,” “Danger,” “Guilty,” and more.
