in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.
for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.
so how can you help?
boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.
learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.
get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.
donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.
and finally…

Hi !!
I’m going to make this quick. I’m about to have an interview for a job and I’m nervous. Is there anything you tell yourself when you’re stressed that helps you calm down?
This, too, will pass.
And if that doesn't work, I remind myself that pretty soon, in galactic time, the Earth, if it has survived burning, will be cold and barren and utterly devoid of life, orbiting a slowly cooling white dwarf. So not to worry.

See, I would believe that people who were originally on the "canon jiang cheng" tag were using it as a space to discuss his more morally ambiguous decisions except every other post on there was also tagged "anti jiang cheng". Also using canon in the tag is very bold especially when it's all individual interpretations of the character, which means it falls under fanon instead.
I would also have a more positive perspective if the tag was "jiang cheng critical" if the goal was to have engaging discussions but the audacity of tagging it "canon jiang cheng"....
So yea. So going forward, I propose:
Jiang cheng critical - if you wanna engage in discussion and debate
Canon jiang cheng - for gifs, quotes, fanart etc. (edit: removed fanart bc I realized that can also be fandom interpretation so basically canon jc could be saved for cql, donghua, novel and manhua content aka the source material)
Jiang cheng - for people who enjoy the character and/or canon jiang cheng content
Anti-jiang cheng - for those who don't like the character and don't enjoy him (essentially please by sympathetic to people who actually enjoy the character and related content)

First things first. Demon cultivation is bad on its' own. It rips people away from their reincarnation cycle. Take Wen Ning for example, after everyone he cares about leaving the world, he cannot join them at all. Even after he dies, he perishes from the world completely. Even if the demonic cultivators hasn't hurt anyone, their cultivation in itself is a huge taboo in their world. It is a cultivation that doesn't respect their dead. And because of Jiang Cheng's bad experience with demonic cultivation, he has huge reactions.
And, we read from WWX's POV. Jiang Cheng doesn't know all this! Wei Wuxian has never told him about all of this. And as I said above, demonic cultivation is a huge taboo. Wei Wuxian knows this through Lan Qiren multiple times during his study at the cloud recesses. Demonic cultivation is his resort because he doesn't have a core, we know that but does Jiang Cheng know? He doesn't, until the end where Lan Wangji tells him. He went through years of thinking everyone's abandoned him, he can't be expected to react nicely to all of this right? Especially when he's in an emotional turmoil before hand.
Jiang Cheng wanted to cause Wei Wuxian pain because he has caused him pain. We're the readers not one of the characters. And not everyone is in love with Wei Wuxian like Lan Wangji. They do not know everything. Their relationship wasn't a healthy one indeed but please think from Jiang Cheng's perspective. To HIM, Wei Wuxian did indeed kill his sister and brother-in-law and made his nephew an orphan. And Wei Wuxian did indeed turn his back on the cultivation world by helping the Wens. So...
A major thing that bothers me about the “WWX and JC have both hurt each other, so by post-canon it all evens out (or close enough) and they can still have a relationship” concept/argument is about the intentionality (or lack thereof) of the harms they each caused.
Because the thing is, nothing WWX did was ever meant to hurt JC. The core transfer was done to save him, not to humiliate him. WWX seceded from the Jiangs because that was the only option he had to protect the Wens (and the Jiangs too), not because he wanted to leave JC behind. JZX’s and JYL’s deaths were accidents, nothing WWX wanted much less chose, and were certainly not meant to target JC. Even at Nightless City, he initially holds back against the Jiangs specifically, until he finally totally loses it.
JC, on the other hand, consistently intends to harm WWX. After the fall of Lotus Pier, he strangles WWX, both out of violent emotions generally and to punish him for it being his “fault.” After WWX secedes, JC goes beyond their agreement to just tell the world that WWX left the clan and instead says that WWX declared himself an enemy of the cultivation world, which was not what WWX asked of him and further harmed his reputation. JC joined the conference at Nightless City, which was meant to raise an army to attack WWX, and we have no indication that he was going to speak in his favor. JC then actually led the siege that killed both WWX and almost all of the people he gave up his previous life to protect.
Even after WWX’s death, JC continues to intend him harm. He keeps capturing, torturing, and killing people who he thinks might be WWX (and the text is explicit about this; there is no indication that the “demonic cultivators” JC captured were hurting anyone – he wasn’t trying to protect anyone, he wanted to capture and hurt WWX). When he finds someone who actually might be WWX, he uses a tool meant to expel WWX’s soul on him. He deliberately torments WWX with his greatest fear. He joins in a second siege meant to kill him.
Has WWX taken actions that resulted in JC’s pain? Yes. But JC’s pain was never the point…and that’s not true for JC about WWX.
So this is a big reason why I can’t want WWX to reconcile with JC, and why I’m glad that in canon he didn’t. They’ve both caused each other pain, but JC meant to hurt WWX in a way that WWX didn’t mean to hurt JC. And I don’t think WWX should have to go back to that kind of relationship.

Gabriel: look, it's my wedding day, okay? If you were getting married, I'd never do anything to upset you
Cas: when I got married, you slept with my husbands brother
Gabriel: that was pretty amazing for me

I have 32 scars in my body, I made them. And it was about to become 33 today and then I took 'Coraline' in my hand and played the audiobook over YouTube. I couldn't focus for most parts, I was crying and ruminating. But there were moments when I could listen to the audio and follow it. There you were. This is not the first time I have felt your company while reading you. I could wish that I get to see you or talk to you or eat with you but I like what's going on between us. You are a healthy coping mechanism. 32 remains 32, in case you worried.
Well done for keeping it at 32. I’m proud of you and I’m glad that Coraline helped.
