The point of dissection
I'm seeing a lot of fics that have Danny sporting a Y-incision on his chest from Mad Science being performed on him. It's a great dramatic wound, and I think is an excellent writing tool, but so many fics that use this plot point treat it like it's just a laceration, if a big one, and are only concerned with stitching / bleeding.
A dissection / vivisection / autopsy is not that superficial. After the cut, which cuts through all the chest muscles as well as fat and skin, the ribs are broken and REMOVED so the organs can be accessed. Unless Danny escaped very quickly, damage should not be limited to skin.
I don't think I've yet to see a fic that has Danny hurt with a fresh torso Y injury and actually has to deal with physical recovery that also mentions broken ribs, or organ damage, or limited movement due to anything other than pain, or deep contaminants, or anything MISSING below the skin.
And while on the subject of autopsy scars on dead/undead characters, why is Jason Todd so often portrayed with one? Yes, he died, and it's a convenient visual reminder of that, but autopsies are typically performed if the cause of death is in question and needed to gather evidence for an investigation. Pretty sure Jason's cause of death has never been in question.
I love the autopsy scar on undead characters trope. Its a great hurt/comfort tool, but it's often applied so superficially.
