most of the revelers passing through lucien’s mansion are supernatural, company she finds sets her more at ease than she thought. after decades of passing as human, of mingling with mostly humans, there is something comforting about not having to conceal her nature. to be able to bare her fangs in the gleaming light of chandeliers.
( though, truthfully, hiding does not do her much good in a town like fairview. and why should she now? if they are already scared, then why not give them a reason to be? )
but it’s one of the few humans who’ve joined in the hedonism and debauchery, who aren’t stopped by murder suspects on the guest list---maybe notoriety is part of the thrill---that finds her outside in the garden where she’s taking a break from the main party. he reeks of liquor, itching for a fight, and he goads her, taunts her, says something about christian and he’s so full of shit----
( first the clocks. then the barrier. now this? all hallow’s eve is turning to be far too long, indeed. )
there’s a flash of movement, several curses yelled into the air, and the man crumples to the ground. did he forget that vampires are so very, very strong, and so very, very fast? or is he just stupid? “ how pathetic, ” she sneers under her breath. the sound of approaching footsteps makes her turn, the silken fabric of her black dress swishing with her. she’s a queen tonight, golden crown nestled in her hair.
“ he’s not dead. ” selene shrugs, her expression the very image of nonchalance. “ just irritating. i didn’t even hit him that hard. ” humans are just so weak goes unsaid.

the party lucien had thrown initially on what was supposed to be halloween was still going days into the eternal night. people came and went as they pleased , as did their host , and seeing as most of the town were supernatural creatures things were still going relatively strong. he was mingling in the small crowd still lingering in his home when he set eyes on someone far more intriguing. he watched them briefly as he tossed back the rest of his brandy before setting it down on the first server’s tray that passed by him as he weaved his way through the people to approach the other , a smile pulling at his lips , “ oh , salut.. how are you enjoying the unending all hallow’s eve , my dear ? “
“ it would be better if i could leave. ” selene gives him a thin smile. for once, she does not coat her words in sugar and honey; in the company of friends, she can be as frank as she pleases. “ i do love your parties, luc, ” and it’s the only party where she’d be welcomed with open arms, “ but it’s just so limiting. imagine what you could do with this long a night in manhattan or dc. but then, that’s question, isn’t it? why have the clocks stopped? why can’t we leave? ”

lucien smiled almost coyly at the familiar woman as she entered his study , “ i wouldn’t call it hiding , per say , more like.. waiting. “ he lolled his head to the side as he regarded her , chortling lightly at the news , “ have they now ? i’ve been meaning to purchase another piece as it was , let them have their fun. “ the vampire waved his free hand almost dismissively in a way as he sipped from the bright red concoction that was comprised of twice distilled blood and champagne. the century old vampire fixes the other with his gaze as she takes the seat beside him , “ if i said it was you , would you believe me ? “ he purred as he handed over his own drink to her , “ try it , won’t you ? tell me what you think. “ a chuckle escaped him and he rolled his eyes playfully , “ you say it as if you don’t find entertainment in my grand parties , mon cher , “ he scoffed , “ i’m wounded , truly. “
“ oh, they’re having the time of their life, no doubt, ” selene drawled, and she gives him a brilliant smile. “ i’m sure i’m part of the reason you came back, but i’d call you a liar all the same. ” taking his glass, she tips the crimson liquid back, a pleased expression taking hold of features. “ oh, it’s good! quality, truly. look at that---it’s been centuries and you still manage to surprise me. ” she’s almost impressed. “ oh, of course i do, so don’t go crying about it. put your broken heart back together now. ” she lets out a tinkling laugh, handing the glass back to him. “ the one in cannes---you remember that one, don’t you?---that was one of your best. besides, even if it’s still fairview, this is a big step up from being questioned and glared at all the time. ”

“ i think you’re lying.” :: @rxzorshrpv
“ but you don’t know so. ” selene fixes the younger vampire with a curious look, head canted to the side. “ you could be right, darling. i might be lying---or it might actually be the truth. you don’t think i could be a noble’s daughter? it doesn’t matter now, anyway. he’s been dead for centuries and i have more money than he ever dreamed of seeing. ”
( here is the trick: turn yourself into a story, and no one will ever really know you. they will only think they do. )

@faithbred
selene has done her share of selling information to the highest bidder, but when you ask her to incriminate one of her own, there is nothing you can give her that will unlock her safe of secrets. what can the police offer that she does not already have? what can they threaten her with that she has not thought of herself? five hundred years is a long time to get to know how dark humans can be, and how foolish they are, too.
they should be looking elsewhere, she thinks, but instead they insist on crucifying the already damned. it’s the easy way out.
their hold on her slips like sand through their fingers, and she walks out of the station with her chin lifted and irritation flashing in her eyes, heels clicking on the sidewalk. if her day hasn’t been bad enough, catching sight of jerome worsens it. his secret might be a wonderful, delicious thing, but as far she’s concerned, he’d be better off dead in christian’s place---it’s a shame his sire didn’t finish the job.
and now they’re stuck with him. so what’s a girl to do? might as well have some fun.
“ you look awfully worn out, darling, ” she taunts, the honey-sweet lilt of her voice matching her false smile. “ have you been eating enough? ”

“ and you had nothing to do with it?” :: @wcrrioreyes
selene holds back a scoff. eyes on her are nothing new, suspicion is nothing new, but god almighty that she never believed in, does it grow dull. “ oh, the police are sending the hunters to do their questioning for them? are they too scared? ” her voice is clipped with derision. “ but i didn’t. ” they were a friend, she almost adds, but who would believe a vampire couldn’t---wouldn’t---kill her friends? they’re all ruthless, bloodthirsty creatures, are they not?
“ i wasn’t even in town, ” she continues instead, smoothing her features into a picture of placid composure because she knows she is not guilty this time. she is not guilty even if the entire town thinks any vampire walking is. “ only a stupid, new vampire would be foolish enough to leave such a high-profile victim lying in the forest for someone to find. it’s that, or someone making a poor mockery out of one. ”

“ if we’re going to make a deal, you’re gonna have to ask for something a little more rational than that.”

“ sorry. no deal.”

brtprnce:
it wasn’t unusual for lucien to have small gatherings of his friends , but on occasion the old vampire liked to pay tribute to a time long gone. a time of immaculate , glamorous parties that was open to the public and after the loss of a young vanderbilt he assumed it wouldn’t go unappreciated. there were plenty here to drown their sorrows or looking for some sort of distraction , he sat on a couch in the humble library of his home and as someone pushed the door open he almost snapped at them to leave until laying eyes on said intruder. he arched a curious brow and lolled his head to the side as he regarded the other , shifting his drink from one hand to the other , “ welcome , cher , care for a drink ? “
“ i thought this was where you’d be hiding, ” she says in lieu of a greeting, a hello, ça va. “ someone’s torn a painting off your wall. you’re missing all the fun. ” it’s clear in her airy tone that he’s really not; she’s hardly ever in the mood to deal with drunk creatures looking for their next high unless she wants something out of them. with graceful ease, she drapes herself across the other side of the couch. “ is that even a question? ” she flashes a smile, motioning for him to hand her a drink. “ what brought you back, anyway? not bored of this town yet? i’m sure you couldn’t pass up the opportunity to throw another grand party. ”
