this is one of the things I love about reading @shousetsubangbang — every issue (except the december ones) has a theme but no two contributors ever take it in quite the same direction and the variety is always delightful and surprising
I think one of my favorite creative joys is seeing how many different things people can do with the same concept. give ten writers the same starting point, or basic plot, or set of tropes to use and you're still going to get wildly different end results
the details you focus on, the ones you omit, turns of phrase, tone, and framing, the cadence and tempo of the sentences themselves, all the little fingerprints you've left littered across the prose — how you tell the story matters, and your personal voice is what makes it unique

my plans for @shousetsubangbang 2024
none of these are legally binding I just wanted to ramble abt my plans and ideas they are all vulnerable to change or abandonment depending on my whims ok thank you
February: Yes, Chef — nothing. it is hibernation season and I am low on spoons and do not want to write porn. it has occurred to me that I could do a One Piece parody for this but I am probably not going to
April: Another Round — sequel to “Make It Worse” (my piece from August 2023, Barely Legal) this one is getting Out Of Hand I have a full and detailed outline but it’s already longer than the original piece and it is maybe a quarter of my total notes for future instalments send help
June: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea — it occurred to me that I could do a One Piece parody for this one too but then I got an idea about a multi-species trans-inclusive mermaid gangbang and that sounded like fun so I’m prolly gonna try that instead. it does involve pirates and have a totally-not-Shanks side character in it tho
August: Neon Lights — idk yet but it involves a brainstorming session with my cyberpunk-obsessed bestie
October: Hauntology — Carmilla but turn up the ‘erotic’ part of the ‘erotic horror’ thing to 11. that’s not a metaphorical description btw I mean it literally bc Carmilla is good and it’s public domain so I can do what I want with it. so far, one vague idea of how it might go in practical terms, but either way it will involve rereading Carmilla a couple of times ~oh nooo~
December: Theme Free — probably nothing. unless hibernation season is gentler on my sex drive next year I guess but that’s a whole year away so who knows. but I like having a prompt and I already have big plans both for SSBB contributions next year and for holiday celebrations so, again, probably nothing.
I’m probably going to be spending the most time and energy on the MIW sequel bc that’s the project I’m the most concerned about actually finishing (it’s a vital part of these characters’ story and the April issue is a special sequels issue so I really don’t want to miss that deadline). everything else is just extra on top of that. this year I did two in a row and it was #rough actually so I might decide June is out, we’ll see how I’m feeling.
so far since returning to the SSBB fold I’ve done a chatfic and a weird thing with a deliberate stylistic narrative voice, which means I actually haven’t used my baseline writing voice in SSBB yet. the MIW sequel in April is probably going to fix that, but it was just kind of a weird realization
anyway I’m probably gonna ramble more about this stuff later on this acc because why not, my sideblog my rules, thanks for reading if you’ve gotten this far okbyeeee
#suzurambles#s2b2#writing talk#ugh idk what I wanna use as my tag for any of these ideas#especially the MIW verse#cam and jamie#mckenzie/singh-miller#?#who knows. not me. anyway#mermaid gangbang thing#cyberpunk thing#carmilla thing#s2b2 plans#s2b2 ideas#s2b2 2024

my first contributions to SSBB under my current penname came out this year, in issues 104 & 105! aside from those, though, I found something to love in every issue this year (or, more often, several somethings)!
Thank you for joining us for Shousetsu Bang*Bang's 2023! Here's a quick look back at the six great issues we've put out this year:
Coming off of our 100th issue in December 2022, we got Back to Basics with Issue 101, our trope-filled, tried and true return to the zine's yaoi-flavored roots. With seven great stories and an impressive amount of art, this issue's full of lighthearted fun.
Issue 102, The Monster in My Closet, brought some monstrously sweet happily ever afters in seven more stories and a standalone illustration. This one's for the folk out there who like their sexy beasts on the silghtly tamer side.
June took things Off the Beaten Path with Issue 103, a celebration of queer love in the forests, fields, oceans, and other destinations found out beyond the city limits. This issue contains a dozen wild stories of everything from fairy magic to rural cowpokes.
Some issues we just don't even try getting around Smashwords' content algorithm, and this is one of them. Our 18th birthday issue, Barely Legal, brings ten stories to the party, all of them about crime, punishment, and other delightful unmentionables.
Issue 105, Skin Deep, was a big one -- fourteen stories and over 130k words of sexy body horror. This year's traditionally spooky October issue's got everything you could want out of Halloween, from serious skin-crawling erotic nightmares to much cuddlier pieces of strange.
And finally, Issue 106 was our year-end theme-free big bang! Six stories both great and small fill a grab bag of delights.
All these issues were made possible by the hard work of the creators. The stories and art that pack these pages are all labors of love, made by people who have given freely of their time and talents. So if you enjoy something you find here, please take a moment to leave a note of thanks and appreciation. That warm glow of knowing something is loved is what keeps our contributors coming back issue afteer issue, bringing you more of the smutty queer romance you've come to expect from us these last eighteen (!) years.
We hope you'll be back to read more from us in 2024, and we'd especially love it if you'd consider being one of our authors and/or artists! Come check out the 2024 Themes and Dates schedule, where you can plan accordingly. Whether you're an experienced creator or just getting started, you should feel welcome to join us! Be sure to click here for our Google calendar with the dates pre-loaded so you never miss a deadline.
Until then, here's to a peaceful close to 2023 and a bright, fresh start in 2024!
