New Keeper
Summary: You are the new keeper at Arsenal and Daphne is convinced she needs to keep her distance from you, worried about you taking her place on the team.
word count: 2.7k
warnings: none really, but it kind of gets slightly suggestive towards the end ig
a/n: based on this request, hope you enjoy this, I got a bit carried away and it is much longer than my fics normally are tbh, anyway please give me some more requests cause I don't actually have writers block for once so I want to take advantage of that. Enjoy :)
As soon as your agent told you that Arsenal were interested in signing you, you knew it was what you wanted. The transfer came in the winter transfer window which is never ideal because it's in the middle of the season so the rest of the team are already past the awkward stage and are comfortable around each other so it can be easy to feel like you're imposing. But you were also very confident in your abilities, knowing that if they wanted to sign you then there must have been a reason.
You first day at London Colney couldn't of gone much better, everyone was very inclusive and they couldn't of been much nicer to you if they tried, well apart from one person, Daphne. The fellow goalkeeper being very hostile towards you, and that was when she even bothered to acknowledge that you were there, you didn't want to let it affect you, knowing why the most likely explanation was just that she was scared of losing her place on the team as first choice keeper, it hadn't been the first time and you were certain it wouldn't be the last, you've been on both sides of the situation throughout your career.
The next few weeks went the same way, everyone welcoming you apart from Daphne, who you think had only said about four words to you by the time you had been there for nearly a month, which brought you to where you are today, getting on the bus for the trip up to Sunderland for the first game after the winter break, your first game at the club, a fa cup clash against the championship side which a number of your teammates started their career at.
“Come on Y/n/n, Beth has more pictures of Myle to show us on the bus, I can hardly contain myself” Steph laughs as she walks past you and gets on the bus, you following close behind.
“Oh I can't wait, this is going to be a long journey isn't it" you laugh as you get on the bus as well and follow her to sit down at the back of the bus, not your usual choice but given the group of players you had become close with it was sort of inevitable that it would be where you were dragged to on your first matchday.
"Good luck back there" Kim says as you walk past her, "they're mental"
"Yeah thanks, think I might need saving before we make it to Sunderland"
"We aren't that bad, come on sit next to me" Beth comments as she comes up behind you, tapping you on the shoulder and playfully shoving you to get you to keep walking.
The bus journey wasn't actually as bad as you originally thought it might be, although you could safely say that it was the loudest that you had experienced, but for once you didn't mind the noise, it took your mind off the match tomorrow as well as a certain keeper who, although seems to hate you, you can't seem to get her out of your head. It had been one of the many sources of the relentless teasing that Beth had subjected you to since you first day at the North London club.
Having travelled up the day before the match after training that morning which meant the whole team would be able to relax in the morning before the game, something which, even though you didn't really expect to get any game time, the thought of not having to rush around was very appealing.
You got to the hotel and most of the girls seemed to know who they are rooming with, all seperating into little groups and just talking whilst one of the staff members sorts out room keys. You just get handed one, and then you start to walk up with Katie and Kyra, the latter looking around before teasing that you might be rooming with your 'crush' as she puts it, the younger girl having come to the conclusion that this was the reason for you and Daphne being so weird around each other.
"Kyra I swear to god how many times have I told you, keep your voice down, anyone could hear you"
"Just admit the kids right, we all know it Y/N" Katie joins in, looking up from her phone finally.
"I don't like Daphne" You protest, although your voice definitely betrays what you're saying.
"Caitlin said that about Katie before they got together" Kyra comments.
"Yeah well Katie didn't hate Caitlin so it's not really the same is it" You snap, not really meaning to sound as angry as you did, "sorry it's not your fault"
"Right we really need you two to start talking, the sexual frustration is too much now" Katie chimes in with her usual smug smirk plastered across her face.
"Katie McCabe I swear to god, right finally, I'll see you both later" You say as the three of you get to the door with the same number as on your keycard.
You open the door, expecting it to be dark in the room but when you do push the door open you notice all the lights are on already, meaning your roommate beat you up here, something which you were hoping wouldn't happen, you having had a superstition since your time in the youth england age groups where you always had to have the bed furthest from the window.
You walk into the room properly to see, just to your luck the bed next to the window is the one that had been taken by your roommate, you place your bag on the emtpy bed and then sit down just in time for your teammate to come out of the bathroom, however when they walk back in, it's the one person you hoped it wouldn't be, flipping Daphne van Domselaar.
"hey" you try to start a conversation, only getting a glare from the shorter woman. "look Daphne I can tell you don't like me, although I have no idea why, but please can we at least pretend to get along for the team" you say, not once breaking eye contact.
"Oh yeah, I'll pretend to like you when I'm sat on the bench the rest of the season" Daphne snaps back.
"What? Now I'm even more confused, what does pretending to like each other have anything to do with that? And who said you're going to be on the bench the rest of the season"
"Don't you see, you've just waltzed in here and are going to take the no.1 place that I've had to work so hard for" Daphne snaps, looking away.
"Is that it? Is that the reason you've barely spoken to me since I got here?"
"Why else would I not like you, look at yourself" Daphne says, clearly not realising how she's just exposed herself and her feelings.
"Did you just call me good looking Domselaar?" You say, your voice much more suggestive and teasing now as you stand up from where you were sat on the edge of the bed.
"n-no that's not what I meant" Daphne stutters, clearly flustered.
"Oh of course it wasn't, and that would be why you are blushing so much right now yes" You say, stepping closer to the Dutch girl, brushing some hair behind her ear and it shows how big the height difference really is, "you can tell me, it won't go anywhere but between us, I promise" you smirk, and then before you can think of another way to make her even more flustered, Daphne leans up, having to go on her tiptoes and captures your lips in a kiss. "Oh that was confident for someone who's blushing that much" you smirk after you've both pulled away from each other, her hands still on your waist.
“Well you wouldn’t shut up, as usual so I thought I would use my initiative” Daphne smirks, repeating your earlier action of pushing hair behind your ear.
“You know, it’s actually quite cute that you were scared about me taking your place on the team, you trying to ignore me thinking that would help your true feelings go away” You say, continuing to tease Daphne, liking the reaction you got the first time.
This time Daphne just hides her face, clearly trying to hide that she is still in fact blushing very deeply. You just smirk before you move away and sit back down on the bed, this time tapping the space next to you, indicating for the other goalkeeper to sit next to you.
"Right then how do you want to deal with this? I think it is quite clear there is some very mutual feelings between us" You start.
"You're such a nerd" She chuckles.
“Well you clearly like that so there's no problem there then"
"You're very confident, I’ve never actually said that I do like you” Daphne smirks, playfully bumping your shoulder.
“Daphne you literally kissed me, that is all the confirmation I need”
"Ok maybe you're right, but do you mind if we don't tell anyone straight away, I don't think I can deal with that much attention"
"Anything you want, but that does mean that we will have to continue to keep hating each other" You say, clearly upset that you're only going to be able to be this close to Daphne when you were both alone.
"Or we could say we talked tonight, which isn't technically a lie, and say that we sorted out our differences, become 'friends' in front of everyone else"
"I like your thinking, just to let you know I'm always hugging my friends"
"Oh well how perfect is that, now do you want to go downstairs now or wait until we have to for dinner"
"You're not going anywhere," Daphne laughs, playfully pushing you back so you're now laying down.
"You're quite bossy has anyone ever told you that?" You reply, also laughing.
Daphne doesn't respond, she just moves to lay down next to you, you now having moved to be on your side, propped up by one of your arms. The pair of you spend the next few hours just laying there talking, getting to know each other more beyond football. Unfortunately before you know it, it's time to go down for dinner with the team, you groan when Daphne physically makes you get up off the bed (or tries, she's not really able to because you are significantly stronger than her).
"Y/n we need to go, or do you want to get shouted at by Kim and Leah?" Daphne says, finally giving up with her attempt to drag you off the bed.
"Ok, let me just go to the toilet, you start going down, I'll catch up" You reply as you do get up, pressing a kiss to Daphne's forehead before walking into the bathroom as she makes her way to the door.
It had been eight months since that away day, and somehow still no one knew about you and Daphne, the whole team just thinking you were both friends, every away trip since you and Daphne had roomed together, you had nearly been caught out countless times but one of you had always managed to make an excuse wuick enough so that you didn't blow your cover. Originally you had decided to take things slowly with your relationship, wanting to enjoy it, however that idea had arguably gone out the window when you moved in with each other two months later. Niether of you were quite sure how the team hadn't worked it out yet but you weren't complaining. This week was going to be another time when you would both have to be very careful, another season had just finished and the whole team had planned a nice little break away, some time to relax and recover after the very long, and successful season just gone.
"Right I'm assuming rooms are going to be the same as normal" Daphne says, pretty much as soon as the group of you got into the villa you had all booked.
"Yes don't worry Daphne, no one is trying to take your girlfriend away from you" Katie laughs, not really meaning anything by her teasing.
"How many times do we have to tell you, we aren't dating each other" Daphne says, so convincingly that you almost believe it as well.
"Ok ok, whatever, I'm going to unpack so I can get changed and go sit by the pool, someone has to try and keep up with Y/n's tan" Caitlin says, dragging Katie away to a room so they could both get changed and unpacked.
The rest of the girls, Kyra, Alessia, Beth, Viv (who came along even though she doesn't play with you guys anymore, the Dutch girl still being very close to all of you), as well as you and Daphne all make your way to your respective rooms. You and Daphne get upstairs last, meaning you got the last room, Kyra and Alessia are laughing down the corridor and you can tell why when you step in the bedroom to notice that there is only one bed, the other girls thinking they've formed some master plan, but you just look over your shoulder and smirk at Daphne, more than happy with this arrangement.
You unpacked much quicker than Daphne and then got changed before laying back on the bed, looking at your phone while you wait for Daphne to be ready, not having the effort to go downstairs yet, you must have been proper zoned out because you didn't even notice that Daphne was finished until she practically launched herself on top of you.
"Oh hello, you finished now love?" You say, your hands going straight to your girlfriends hair, an action which was second nature to you by now.
"Yes, I just need to get changed then we can go down if you want, but I don't think it is very fair that you're sitting there looking like that"
"Looking like what, I'm not doing anything" You smirk, knowing exactly what she meant.
"Y/n you're sat there in just your bikini and now I have to pretend that we're just friends, that's so unfair" She whines.
"Yes well correct me if I am mistaken but you are about to get up and get changed yourself, which will mean that I am in the exact same situation” You say back as she finally gets off you to get changed.
“Ok ok, I have a solution for all this,” Daphne starts.
“And what might that be love?"
"We just stay up here, and have our own fun" The shorter woman smirks, drawing patterns over your exposed abs, trying to convince you.
"As amazing as that sounds, I think that could blow our cover, so come on, lets go down"
"You're no fun" Daphne pouts.
"You weren't saying that last night babe" you just smirk, walking off without waiting for a response.
You get downstairs and just go straight outside, assuming thats where all the girls already are. When you get there, Daphne not far behind, you see that all the girls are out there, Caitlin and Katie as well as Beth and Viv sharing sunbeds in their respective couples, with Kyra and Alessia already messing about in the pool.
"Oh here they are, just a quick one this time girls?" Katie laughs, earning a slight smack from Caitlin, even though the Australian was also laughing at the comment.
"Oh grow up Katie, just friends" You reply, smiling before just pulling your sunglasses down and laying down on one of the free sunbeds.
"Well you may want to tell her that because the only other time I have seen anyone look like that was when Beth used to when we first started going out" Viv comments.
"Guilty" Daphne mutters, not really meaning anyone but you to hear.
"I knew it!" Kyra shouts as she gets out the pool, not before splashing Alessia one more time.
"Daphne!" You exclaim, but the massive grin on your face betrays your supposed annoyance.
"Guess our secret is out" Daphne smirks as she gets up and kisses you, gaining teasing noises from the other girls, which you choose to ignore.

I started writing 2 years ago, but then school stress came and stopped for a while. Last year I read fics of other writers and my stress for school was less, so i decided to start writing again and that mostly was because of YOUR discord server Mel, hihi.
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

Everything changed: except it didn't
Leah Williamson x Reader
Summary: The day after the truth or dare game night.
Word count: 2.1k
a/n: Read pt.1 first, before reading this one :)
You slowly stirred awake, the sun peeping through the curtains of your hotel room. You kept your eyes closed because of the early sunlight, which was too bright for your sleepy eyes. You let out a sigh and tried to move on your back, but the solid arm of someone around your waist held you in place. You blinked your eyes rapidly. To let them adjust to the light.
You looked over your shoulder and saw Leah still asleep. Her features looked calm, her breathing slow, and a small smile tugged at her lips. You raised an eyebrow in amusement because it looked like Leah knew that last night happened, even in her sleep. You carefully turned in her hold, hoping not to wake her.
You are now lying face to face with the defender, her arm tightened just around your middle, you tucked a loose strand of her hair out of her face and behind her ear. You didn’t say anything. You just stared at her, like she was an extraordinary animal, who let themselves be spotted only just once or never at all.
“You’re staring.” You blinked, taken off guard by the hoarse and full-of-sleep voice of Leah. “You’re awake?” You asked, feeling your cheeks going warm. Leah didn’t respond; she just let out a small sigh, her eyes still closed. After a minute or two, Leah opened her eyes, immediately locking on yours.
“You’re blushing.” Leah murmured, her voice thick with sleep, and a small smile tugged at her lips. “I’m-” You started, but closed your mouth again, because Leah just raised an eyebrow. You groaned and buried your face into your pillow, hearing Leah giggle softly.
“Did you just giggle at me?” You huffed, but your pillow muffled the words. You lifted your head, meeting Leah’s bright blue eyes once more. “I did. It’s cute when you’re flustered.” Leah teased, and you groaned again, but you stopped immediately. When Leah’s arm, which was still around your waist, pulled you closer to her.
You let out a startled yelp, your hands resting on her chest. “Good morning.” Leah hummed and kissed your temple. “Morning.” You said with a smile and rested your head on her shoulder. “Did last night really happen?” You giggled softly and lifted your head from her shoulder, meeting Leah’s eyes again. “I don’t know.” You teased with a smirk, something in Leah’s eyes shifted.
“I could remind you that it did happen, especially what happened after the movie.” Leah murmured, tilting your head with two fingers, your face inches apart from hers. “Mmhh, what did you have in mind?” Leah’s lips twitched up into a smile and moved, now hovering over you.
Her nose brushed yours, and she still had the smirk on her lips. “Well, I could kiss you like I did last night, after we had watched the movie.” Leah teased, her lips brushing your jaw and her breath hot against your skin. “Leah… we’re not doing this now, we just woke up.” You groaned and buried your face in her shoulder.
“You have always been a morning person. What changed?” You pulled your head back so you could meet Leah’s eyes again. “Oh, I don’t know? Maybe because I didn’t sleep until two in the morning.” You said with a smirk, your arms wrapping around her neck. “Yeah, that’s on me.” You giggled softly and pulled Leah down.
Your lips met in a soft kiss. Leah’s hands rested on either side of your head, her lips moved from your mouth to your jaw, neck, and throat, nipping just a little. “Leah…” You groaned and felt Leah’s lips smirk against your skin, before tilting her head. “Yes?” Leah hummed, a mischievous look in her eyes. “We need to get breakfast.” You whispered and gently pushed Leah back, who rolled off you and onto her back next to you again.
“You are no fun.” Leah whined with a pout on her lips, rolling onto her side, facing you. “I’m a lot of fun; otherwise, you wouldn’t have kissed like they did in the movie yesterday.” You shot back with a playful smile, moving closer to Leah, who wrapped her arms around you with a small smile.
“That was sheer pressure. You told me that no girl would love to be kissed like that. So, I needed to prove you wrong.” Leah whispered in your ear, and you felt your cheeks getting warmer, because that indeed happened yesterday. “Okay, maybe I was wrong.” You said with a sigh, letting your head rest on Leah’s shoulder. “You weren't only wrong, you enjoyed it.” Leah hummed, kissing your temple, and you groaned.
“You’re enjoying this way too much, that you’re right.” You said with a pout and buried your face into her neck, while Leah circled with her hand on your back. The two of you lay there, under the covers, Leah whispering sweet things in your ear, a few kisses shared. “We should probably get out of bed for breakfast.” Leah hummed, but didn’t put any effort into moving from the bed.
“Do we have to? We can order room service.” You suggested, earning soft giggles from the blonde defender, who shook her head, even though she loved the idea of room service. “You know the answer to that.” You groaned and rolled away from Leah, swinging your legs over the edge of the bed. “Do we tell the others?” You looked over your shoulder and thought about it.
“No. I want this to be just for us. No teammates teasing us, especially Beth.” You answered honestly, standing up from the bed. “Okay, just us.” Leah agreed with a hum and stepped out of bed as well. The two of you changed around each other; Leah showed some physical affection by kissing your shoulders when you were changing your T-shirts or hugging you from behind while you brushed your teeth in front of the mirror.
“Ready to go?” You nodded when you slipped your shoes on, took your phone from the nightstand, and walked through the door. Leah let the door close with a click, her hand slipping into yours, fingers intertwining.
The two of you reached downstairs, and you pulled your hand from Leah’s, not wanting to let the others see. “Look who finally decided to show up?” You let out a startled yelp, jumping back, but Beth wrapped her arms around you and Leah. “Good morning, Beth.” Leah chuckled, pushing Beth’s arm off her shoulders.
You felt your heart hammer in your chest, afraid that Beth had seen you walk hand in hand with Leah just now. “y/n!” You snapped out of your trance, Beth’s fingers snapping in front of your eyes. “Sorry, what?” You felt your cheeks going warm once more and looked at Beth. “How did you sleep?” Beth asked her question again because you hadn’t heard it the first time.
“I slept like a lamb.” You said with a giggle, your eyes landing on Leah quickly, who was talking with Kelly and Georgia. “Good to hear, because today will be a long day.” Beth chimed before walking away, leaving you confused. “A long day?” You murmured to yourself because last time you checked, today was going to be a free day. You shook your head and headed to the table where Leah was standing, already two plates in her hands.
“So, you slept like a lamb?” Leah teased, and you snapped your head up, glaring at her, but couldn’t stop the smile tugging at your lips. “You heard that?” You groaned because you thought that Leah was too far away to overhear your conversation with Beth. Leah just nodded her head, handing you your plate, and the two of you walked together to the table where the bread was.
“I thought we had a free day today?” You murmured, and Leah looked at you, her eyes telling you that she thought that as well. “We do.” You shook your head, putting some fruit on your board. “Why do you ask?” Leah now asked, confusion in her eyes. “Beth just said that it will be a long day.” Leah shook her head, letting out a groan.
“I swear, if Beth has something planned, I will throw this piece of bread straight at her face.” Leah stated, waving the piece of bread in her hand dramatically. You stifled a laugh and rested your head on Leah’s shoulder, who was putting some fruit on her plate. “You-” Before Leah could get the rest of the sentence out, Beth, Choe, and Keira stood in front of you, and all three had the same suspicious looks in their eyes.
“I don’t like this, not one bit.” You murmured in Leah’s ear, your head still resting on her shoulders. “What now?” Leah asked with a groan, meeting the eyes of Beth, who smirked from ear to ear. “You two are close.” Beth hummed, making you and Leah both frown in confusion, because you two were always close.
“That’s nothing new.” Leah answered, her voice was steady, and she was trying so hard not to wish that the ground could swallow her whole right now. “No, but now it’s something else.” Keira stated, her voice laced with suspicion. “How?” You were confused about why they were behaving this way.
“Ohh, you know.” You turned your head back to Keira, who had a smug look written all over her face. “Ever since your dare yesterday, the two of you have been acting different.” You and Leah both raised an eyebrow, clearly not knowing what Keira meant. “Ohh, c’mon,” Beth practically scoffed, but the smile tugged at her lips.
“the two of you were late for breakfast,” Leah opened her mouth to argue, but Chloe held up her hand, not giving Leah the chance to talk. “you held hands, but let go off each other the minute you walked into the room, hoping that we wouldn’t see.” Beth pointed out, her finger pointing and moving from you to Leah. You tried to keep your calm, but it was impossible when you were getting interrogated by your teammates.
Leah, on the other hand, was her usual calm. Composed person. Not blinking too many times at a question, or shoving her hands deep in her pockets. Leah just stood there, her arms crossed loosely over her chest, her usual calm stare, and her lips pressed into a thin line.
“Are you guys done? Because all the things you pointed out are things y/n and I always do.” Leah finally said, her eyes darting from Beth to Keira, to Chloe, and then back to Beth again. “Well….” Beth’s voice filled the room again, both your and Leah’s eyes snapped up to meet Beth’s, already afraid to hear what she was going to say.
“you never let anyone wear your sweaters, not even y/n.” You looked down at the sweater you were wearing, and it was indeed Leah’s sweater, the one she had never let anyone wear. “I-we-” You tried to come up with a good excuse, but nothing came out of your mouth.
You met Leah’s eyes, and you saw the defeat in her eyes. You closed your eyes, took a deep breath, and turned your head to the others, then opened your eyes again. “Okay, yes. After what happened last night, something had changed between me and Leah, but-” Before you could speak more, you saw Beth and Keira handing both a £20 note to Chloe, who took the money with a graceful smile. Both your and Leah’s mouths fell slightly open, puzzling the pieces together.
“You-you bet on, if we would turn into more than friends?” You uttered in disbelief. “Ohh, c’mon, we all have seen the looks you have been giving each other.” Chloe stated, putting the money in her pockets. “Well, lovebirds, enjoy your breakfast.” The three of them left you and Leah dumbfounded, both still shocked about what had just happened. “Okay, what just happened?” Leah shook her head, her mouth still slightly open, and you buried your face in your hands, groaning softly.
“Well, we lasted,” You looked at your phone. “20 minutes keeping our relationship to ourselves.” You said with a sigh, putting your phone away. “We are never living this one down and you,” Leah said, turning her face to you with a smile. “You are the only one, who’s allowed to wear that sweater from now on.” You smiled at her and pulled her into a hug, but instead, Leah’s lips landed on yours. “What-” You tried to say, but Leah silenced you with another kiss. “Don’t ruin the moment.” Leah hummed against your lips, brushing her nose against yours.

Back to -> Bee's universe masterlist
Back to -> How it began
The bar was buzzing. Drinks were ordered, music blaring from the music boxes, people dancing and singing off-key. “Wij zijn kampioen, wij zijn kampioen!” (We are the champions, we are the champions) Got chanted constantly. Daphne sat in the booth with a beer in her hand. Daphne didn’t know how many beers she had, and she didn’t care.
They just won the league and were celebrating in a bar somewhere in the middle of Enschede. “Okay, who wants to do some shots!” It wasn’t a question, because Daphne and her teammates were already cheering when it was suggested. “Daph, can you order the shots?” Marie, one of the older players of the team, asked Daphne, who nodded. “Sure.” Daphne replied and walked to the bar, moving through the crowded room.
“What can I get you?” A bartender asked when Daphne reached the bar, leaning against it. “Can I have 12 shots, please?” The bartender nodded and turned around to get the shots, while Daphne waited. “Here.” Daphne frowned when a different bartender placed a cocktail in front of her. “I didn’t order this.” Daphne said politely, pushing the drink away from her.
“He did.” The bartender said, pointing to a man around the same age as Daphne, who met the eyes of the boy. Daphne tilted her head, and she had to be honest, the guy wasn’t looking that bad. Daphne gave a polite smile before taking the shots from the bar and walking back to the booth, leaving the drink of the man on the counter.
“Took you long enough!” Marissa chipped with a smirk, taking a few shots from Daphne’s hand. “It’s very crowded and a lot of people were waiting in line.” Daphne said with a smile, taking a seat. “Alright, cheers on the champions!” A teammate yelled and everyone drank the shot down.
Daphne set the little bottle down with a click, shaking her head. “So,” Daphne turned her head, meeting Caitlin’s eyes, who had a smirk on her lips. “who was that guy?” Daphne frowned and rolled her eyes. Daphne’s eyes landed only for a split second on the guy at the bar, who was talking with one of his friends, Daphne assumed. “I meant that guy.” Caitlin looked in the same direction, her head next to Daphne’s.
“I don’t know.” Daphne answered honestly, repositioning herself in the booth. Caitlin gave Daphne a pointed look before Daphne sighed in defeat. “He gave me a drink, but I didn’t take it.” Caitlin’s smirk widened, and she leaned in closer. “He’s cute.” Daphne chuckled softly, shaking her head.
“If you find him so attractive, why don’t you go for him?” Daphne teased with a smirk, her eyes quickly moving to the guy. “Oh no, I meant he is cute for you.” Daphne snapped her head, blinking at Caitlin, hoping that she hadn’t heard that right. Daphne opened her mouth to argue, but Caitlin was already talking with someone else.
The night continued, and twelve beers later, Daphne stood again at the bar. “Can I offer you another beer?” Daphne turned her head, meeting the guy from earlier. “Depends, what’s the catch?” Daphne joked, earning a chuckle from the tall blonde guy. “Well, maybe your name first.” Daphne raised an eyebrow, tilting her head, like she was thinking deeply. “Daphne.” She reached out her hand.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Lucas.” Daphne nodded and shook his hand. His voice was soft and gentle. “So,” he started and took a seat next to Daphne on the bar stool. “you want that beer?” Daphne chuckled softly, nodding with her head, so Lucas held up his hand for a bartender and ordered two beers. “Are you alone here?” He asked after he handed Daphne a beer. “No, I’m here with a few teammates.” Daphne answered before taking a sip from her beer.
“What kind of sport do you do?” Lucas asked, taking a sip from his beer. “Football.” Lucas nodded, setting his beer back down. “As in, running around the field with a ball?” Lucas teased, and Daphne elbowed him, knowing full well that he knew what football was. “Yes, running around the field and trying to score a ball between two metal posts.” Daphne mocked, but the smile on her lips betrayed her.
“Where do you play?” Lucas asked after he had taken a sip from his beer. “FC Twente.” Lucas raised an eyebrow, half amused and half from disbelief. “Wow, so I’m talking to a professional athlete?” Daphne shook her head, giggling into her glass that was against her lips. “What kind of position do you play?” Lucas leaned in closer, and Daphne could smell the alcohol from his breath.
“Wait, let me guess, striker?” Daphne shook her head with amusement. “Midfielder?” Lucas guessed again, but Daphne shook her head once more. “Defender?” Lucas practically yelled, and a few heads from people around them turned to them. Daphne shook her head again, taking another sip from her beer, while Lucas was thinking deeply about what Daphne’s position could be. “Really?” Daphne asked, shocked, because he had named all the positions.
“A bench warmer?” Daphne scoffed, but couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at her lips, because she knew that he was joking. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding.” Lucas joked, shaking his head. The conversation continued, it felt easy, it wasn’t forced. They both shared their hobbies, what they do in their free time, and about their families. At one point, they sat close to each other, their knees brushing, Lucas's hand on Daphne’s leg.
“You are so easy to talk to.” Lucas murmured, his hand still resting on Daphne’s leg. “I could say the same thing about you.” Lucas chuckled at that, and their eyes met, both smiling. For the first time, it felt like Daphne could just be Daphne. Not Twente their goalkeeper, not a player, just Daphne.
The next morning, Daphne woke up to the bright light of the outside filtering through the curtains. Daphne blinked rapidly to let her eyes adjust to the light. Daphne groaned, her heartbeat drumming in her ears. She was hungover from yesterday. She had too much to drink, too many shots, too many bad snacks from the bar. Daphne finally opened her eyes, realizing that she was home, in her bed.
Daphne’s mind swarmed with questions because she didn’t remember coming home last night. It took a few minutes, three glasses of water, and ibuprofen to remember what happened at the bar. Daphne dragged her hands down her face, her eyes closing again, because everything was too bright for her eyes. Daphne’s eyes snapped open when she remembered the guy who she had talked to.
“Oh no, no, no, no.” Was all Daphne could say, because she remembered that she had invited him to come over, to continue talking at a quieter place, instead of the loud bar. But one thing led to another, which was her in bed with the guy, both too drunk to think anything of it.
Daphne shook her head. She didn’t even remember the guy’s name. Daphne sighed and leaned against the kitchen counter; her head was still pounding. She still felt her heartbeat in her ears, like a constant drum. She wasawake when the guy left, but everything was a blur from the minute they walked into the apartment yesterday.
Daphne took a seat on her couch, her phone in her hand, and was scrolling through the team's Snapchat. With every picture where she was in, she was more drunk than the last. Eventually, Daphne threw her phone next to her, having seen enough and not wanting to see more of the bad life choices she had made yesterday.
Daphne leaned back against the couch, her eyes on the ceiling, but then her phone rang. Daphne answered without looking who was calling her, but the unmistakable voice of Caitlin was heard on the other end of the line. “Morning?” Daphne answered and already heard the laughter of Caitlin.
“Morning sleepyhead!” Caitlin her voice was too loud for this hour, even though it was 12:00 am. “Please, too loud.” Daphne groaned, rubbing her temple with her free hand, hearing another chuckle from Caitlin again. “How are you not hungover?” Caitlin only responded with a hum, making Daphne groan again.
“I’m never going out, ever again.” Daphne said with a sigh, letting her phone drop in her lap. “You always say that.” Caitlin hummed, trying to hold back her laughter. “I mean it this time.” Daphne shot back, determined to never wake up this hungover ever again. The two talked for a few more minutes, but eventually the call ended.
Daphne sat in silence in her apartment, a coffee mug in her hand. “I’m never going out again.” Daphne stated to herself, taking a sip from her coffee.

I really wish I hated you
Aggie Beever-Jones x Reader
Summary: You hated Aggie, and Aggie hated you, or was that just a lie that you both told yourself?
Warnings: Suggestive
Word count: 3.2k
It was the second match of the EUROs for your team. You won your first match with a 4-0 win, but this game was more difficult. It was more physical, with higher pressure from the opponent, and you had to defend more than in the last game. The game started rough. Your opponent, England, was fast with their passes and their turns.
You defended like you always did. Blocking shots, making perfect tackles inside of your penalty area. Your team was the ‘underdog’ in this group. But that did not mean that your team would bow that easily for the harder opponents. The first half ended with 0-0, so there was still a chance for your team to win, and you would do anything to try and win tonight.
England made a substitute at the beginning of the second half. You looked at the sideline and saw an English player, around your age, standing there. Her ponytail swung when she jumped in the air, her white jersey shining because of the sun that landed on it. You had heard of the player. Aggie Beever-Jones, Chelsea’s youngster and top striker, is coming in for Lauren James. You had seen Aggie play before. She could get out of the most difficult places, and her passing was good, just as good as her shooting.
When England made the substitution and both teams were ready, the referee blew the whistle, and the second half was underway. You kept your eyes on the ball, and you noticed that Aggie’s teammates always tried to find her because Aggie read the game like an open book.
The first time Aggie came through was after a sloppy ball from the midfield, so Aggie intercepted the pass immediately. She only needed to turn once, and she had the midfield all for herself. Aggie ran straight at you, so you did what you always did: move up and slide towards the ball. You made contact with the ball, and it rolled to one of your teammates.
Aggie tumbled forward and fell over you, clutching her leg, hoping that the referee saw it as a foul, but the referee let the game continue. You looked at her for a quick second, but she only gave you an angry look before picking herself up from the ground. The second time Aggie came close to your box was when a high ball got shot over your defense. You quickly started to run back, and you were now shoulder to shoulder with the English striker, who tried to keep the ball at her feet.
Aggie tapped the ball too far, giving you the opportunity to slide in front of the ball and stop the attack again. “Ref!” Aggie yelled when she was on the ground, her arms wide and looking at the referee, who only gave Aggie the sign to stand up again. Aggie scoffed in disbelief before walking out of the offside position she was in after your tackle. You were proud of yourself that you managed to stop the Chelsea striker for the second time, and you would do that every time.
The match continued; both teams had scored, and England was starting to press more. You knew that your team was getting slower and couldn’t get off your own half. Minutes passed on, and then, after another sloppy ball from one of your teammates, Aggie had the ball again and all the space to move forward. The midfielders were too slow to catch up with her, so she ran straight at you again.
You held your ground and kept looking at the ball. Aggie tried to move past you with a nutmeg, but you tapped the ball away, and this time you felt yourself hitting the shin of the English striker. Aggie fell to the ground and held her shin. The whistle blew, and you couldn’t believe that the referee would blow for a foul. “No, no, no! It was on the ball!” You yelled at the referee while Aggie stood up and bumped your shoulder, and you lost your balance at the contact.
Before you could even stop yourself, you shoved Aggie back, but she was in your face within seconds. “Get your hands off me!” Aggie yelled, her hands pushing yours away. “That was a clear foul!” Aggie yelled again, and you let out a scoff, shaking your head. “No, it wasn’t!” You shot back, your eyes never leaving hers. “If you can’t handle the contact, maybe try a different sport!” Aggie narrowed her eyes and opened her mouth, but before she could get a word out, both of you got pulled back. Aggie by her captain, and you by your own.
“Aggie, stop!” You heard the English captain say, still holding Aggie back. “What? That’s the third foul she made on me! I’m not standing by and letting her get away with it!” Aggie argued back; her patience was boiling over. “I know, but screaming in her face is not going to change anything.” Leah's voice was calmer now, her hands resting on Aggie's shoulders. Aggie's chest rose and fell, but her breathing calmed. “Just get into position for the free kick.” Leah said with a sigh.
Aggie glared at you for a beat, then turned on her heel and walked back into position. “y/n!” You snapped your head back, meeting the eyes of your own captain. “That was reckless and not necessary!” Amber yelled, and you frowned because it was necessary. “It was a one-on-one situation. What should I have done? Let her pass me?” Amber shook her head with a heavy sigh. “No. But you are a smart defender and not some reckless one, so you knew what to do in the situation.” You closed your eyes briefly and opened them again before nodding.
You walked into position, and the only free opponent was Aggie. You stood behind her, nudging her every now and then, just trying to get her out of focus. The match ended in a narrow defeat for you. The final score was 3-2 for England, with Aggie scoring a last-minute banger in the corner of the goal. The two of you didn’t shake hands at the end, and you didn’t bother to glance at her. You have hated a lot of people in your life, but Aggie was on another level of hate.
The quick elimination of your team at EURO’s was a big pill to swallow for you. Everyone had hoped that you would get further than the group stages, but after the match with England, your team lost the other two matches. But there was one thing that came out of it. You got an offer from one of the best football clubs, Chelsea. They found your defending amazing and how you commanded your defenders.
So here you were. Your first day at Chelsea. You had done everything that you needed to do, but now you were going to meet your new teammates. You moved through the hallways in your blue training kit for Chelsea. You reached the common room, and there were already a few players. You scanned the room, and your eyes landed on Aggie, who was talking with another blonde player, Wieke, if you remembered correctly. You knew what you signed up for when you signed for Chelsea.
You would be teammates with Aggie from now on, and the two of you needed to find a way to have a good relationship with each other. If not for your and Aggie’s sake, then for the team’s. You moved further into the room, not looking at Aggie the whole time, but Aggie would glance at you every now and then, a bit longer than necessary, but you did not notice. Aggie didn’t know what it was, but you looked more friendly off the field than on the field.
Months passed, and you settled great in North London. You and Aggie didn’t exchange words much off the field, but the tension that was at EURO’s wasn’t there. It hadn’t disappeared either, but it was calmer. Your first few trainings went well; you did what Chelsea brought you to do. Defend like you did at the EURO’s and command your teammates where necessary.
The silent truce between you and Aggie didn’t last long; during a 5v5, you made a clean tackle on the ball, not caring how Aggie would land. You quickly stood up and concentrated back on the exercise, but Aggie stayed on the ground, furious at how reckless you were. Aggie quickly stood up and ran towards you when you had the ball. You were about to pass the ball, but Aggie blocked the ball from behind you, and her studs landed on your foot.
You winced and fell on the ground, your hand clutching your foot. You furiously looked up to meet Aggie, but she was already chasing the ball. Sonia looked from the sidelines and looked worried every time you and Aggie interacted, and not in a teammate interaction kind of way. The training continued; you and Aggie had a few more tackles against each other, and every time, you would glance angrily at Aggie when she would tackle you, and Aggie did the same to you.
After training was done, you sat in the locker room. You had showered, and you were putting the last things in your bag. You heard the faucet in the shower turning off and the bare feet on the wet tiles. You didn’t need to look up; you knew that it was Aggie, who was done showering. You stood up and turned your back to her, but your eyes landed on her through the mirror.
Your eyes couldn’t move away; they stayed locked on the bare back of Aggie. You saw her muscled shoulders and how she slowly dried her back with the towel before wrapping it around herself. You had been staring at Aggie for the last couple of months, as much as you hated to admit it, but Aggie is hot. You hated yourself even more when you always stared at her, but you didn’t know that she would stare at you as well when you weren’t looking. You didn’t know what changed.
Maybe it was how Aggie laughed so brightly? Maybe it was her blue eyes that were clear, like a summer sky, or it was the way she moved and always knew what to do. You, on the other hand, were so confused; months ago, Aggie was on your most hated list, but now you didn’t know what list you needed to put her. You looked back into the mirror and saw Aggie taking off the towel, and for a split second, your eyes met, and you felt your cheeks go bright red, and you turned your head quickly away.
Aggie took a seat on the bench, fully naked, and starts to dry her legs and feet. You feel your heart hammer in your chest and see from the corner of your eye Aggie smirking, clearly satisfied that she caught you staring. “Jesus, you are practically drooling.” The cocky voice of Aggie filled the room, and you felt your cheeks go red. “I-I wasn’t—” You couldn’t get your words out, your brain short-circuiting a little.
“Sure, you weren’t. I could see you dress me and take my clothes off again with your eyes.” You opened your mouth but closed it again, not knowing how to respond to that. You still had your back to Aggie, but then you heard her footsteps closing in on you. Your eyes looked at the mirror and saw Aggie walking slowly towards you, like a lion sneaking up on its prey. Within seconds, you feel Aggie's presence behind you. Your back was still turned to her, but Aggie spins you around gently and corners you against the wall next to the mirror, her hands at either side of your head.
Your faces are inches apart; you could almost feel the smirk on Aggie's lips on your jaw. Without thinking, you looked at her arms, tracing the purple veins up to her shoulders. You looked away, but Aggie turned your head with two fingers on your jaw, forcing you to meet her eyes again. “Uh-uh, no looking away when I’m literally standing inches away from you.” Aggie murmured, her lips brushing your jaw, sending a shiver down your spine.
You heard the soft growl leaving Aggie's throat; she was loving that she had this effect on you. Aggie leans in; you part your lips in anticipation, and your noses brush. But then Aggie pulls back, still the same smirk on her lips. “Maybe next time,” Aggie whispered, her lips against your ear. “I will kiss you.” You froze, and Aggie walked away, leaving you completely speechless against the wall, and you heard Aggie's footsteps fading into the distance.
It has been a week since your moment with Aggie in the locker room, and you haven’t been thinking straight ever since. You sat in the booth of a bar; the team was celebrating a win over Arsenal. The bar was buzzing, with chatter all around you, music blaring out of the boxes, and people drinking beer. You had a drink in your hand, but it was still full.
“Are you drinking that or what?” You heard Niamh yell in your ear, earning a chuckle from you, and you took a small sip from your drink. Your eyes scanned the bar. Teammates were scattered around the bar. Some participated in a drinking game, others were darting, and others were just talking with a beer in their hands. “Aggie is at it again!” You frowned when Sam said that; your eyes followed the gaze of everyone else.
Aggie was sitting there, just a few inches away from a girl at the bar. Aggie put her hand on the girl's hip and leaned closer. Your jaw clenched, your fingers tightened on the beer in your hand, and your knuckles turned white. Everyone else at the booth let out whistles and ‘oeh’s’ when Aggie leaned in once again.
You scoffed before muttering, “She can barely hold her position on the field, let alone keep a girl.” Everyone at the table went quiet and turned their head to you, but you just shrugged your shoulders. “What? She always moves to the midfield, even if she is a striker.” You stated, taking another sip from your drink, your eyes darting to Aggie.
The night continued, and after a while, Aggie walked to your booth, hand in hand with the girl she was so close to at the bar. Before Aggie could pass the booth, you took her wrist under the table, quiet but firm. Aggie looks at you, knowing full well what she has been doing. “Really?” You muttered, and Aggie gave you a look, meaning she didn’t know what you were talking about.
“We’re doing this now?” Aggie just shrugged her shoulders before leaning down, her mouth near your ear. “You started this. By staring at me in the locker room, remember?” Your body froze, and Aggie pulled her wrist back from your hold and left with the girl to the dance floor. You still sat in the booth, your eyes on Aggie, who was dancing close to a girl, and they were whispering things to one another. Aggie's eyes met yours; your jaw was tight when Aggie kept looking at you, her hands moving from the girl's waist to her ass.
You looked away and chugged your beer down. Aggie smirked at you before she placed kisses on the girl's neck. “Anyone want a new beer?” You offered the girls near you, and they handed their empty glasses to you before you left the booth for the bar. Aggie, her eyes found you, moving slowly through the busy bar. Aggie smiled proudly because she had wrapped you around her fingers, right where she wanted you.
When you returned and set the beers on the table, you caught a glimpse of Aggie leaving alone to the restroom, and you didn’t hesitate. You offered quick ‘you’re welcomes’ to your teammates before heading to the restroom. You move quickly through the crowd and eventually reach the restroom door. You walked in and saw Aggie casually leaning against the wall, her arms crossed loosely over her chest and staring at the floor, like she already knew that you would follow her.
“Took you long enough.” Aggie hummed, not bothering to look up, already knowing it was you who barged in. You didn’t speak, your hands fisted at your sides, while Aggie moved to the sink and leaned back against it. “You didn’t like seeing me with her?” Aggie asked innocently, a mischievous look in her eyes. “Don’t start.” You said, almost in a growl, and you stared her down. “You knew I was watching. You wanted me to see.” Your voice was low, and your eyes narrowed, Aggie, who was still leaning against the sink.
“I do have to admit,” Aggie started as she was looking at her nails. “Jealousy looks pretty good on you.” Aggie dropped her hand and looked straight into your eyes. Aggie still had the mischievous look in her eyes. “You’re unbelievable.” Your voice was low again, and you took a step forward, your eyes never leaving hers. “You’re looking at me like you want to slam me into a wall.” You stopped walking, and the two of you stood face-to-face, both feeling the tension in the small space between your bodies.
“What? No sna—” Before Aggie could get the rest of the sentence out, your lips crashed onto hers, a low groan leaving your throat. Aggie moaned in the kiss and leaned into your body, forcing you to take a few steps back. The kiss never breaks as Aggie presses you against the wall across from the sink, her teeth biting on your lower lip. Your back hit the wall with a thud, and Aggie's mouth moved from your mouth to your neck, leaving you breathing heavily, your hands on her shoulders.
“I really wish I hated you.” You breathed out and felt Aggie smirk against your neck. She moved her head up, your eyes meeting again. “We both know,” Aggie started, her voice husky, and kissed the corner of your mouth. “that we never hated each other.” You huffed, and Aggie kissed you again, softer and slower, like she was savoring the taste of your lips. “God, you are so sure of yourself.” You hummed but quickly moaned when Aggie bit your lip and eased the sting with her tongue.
You parted your lips and let Aggie explore your mouth; your nails dug into her neck, making Aggie groan a little. She finally pulled back, her forehead resting against yours, her hands loosely on your waist now. You both looked in the mirror now, both your lips swollen and red, and for the first time that night, both of you laughed softly. “What now?” You asked softly, your head resting on her shoulder. “We see where this- us go.” You nodded, and Aggie pulled you into a hug. You never would’ve thought that the person you hated would end up being your favorite person, and you honestly didn’t mind it.
