for people like senior staff, should we assume they were appointed by the original president or the new one?

           its about half and half.     while most of the staff originally carried over, it’s been over three months so the new president is bound to have made some changes, my character for instance is new to his position.

the following plot drop involves varying triggering themes. proceed with caution. the first major political topic covered in the roleplay will be veterans affairs & rights as well as containing themes of mental illness which can bring in other political topics. 

it’s been a cold day on the steps of the capitol building. when the first senators start to arrive in the midst of the crisp dc morning air. there’s a spilled cup of coffee and a shrilling scream. police roll up to the steps, closely followed by private security, a dead man has been very deliberately placed at the top of the steps. the words forgotten hero written out in military dog tags in front of him. it’s a direct attack on the governments lack of action towards the homelessness & suicide epidemics in the veteran community. the need to address this, and take a strong stance in alliance with the veteran community is urgent. but with such little leadership in the white house as is. it can the government put on a unified front ? or will it descend into chaos ?

the day’s events thus far :

0456 a senator from kentucky discovers the dead body on the steps of the capitol building

0508 dc police with private security forces in tow arrive at the scene

0515 the federal breau of investigation show up at the capitol building

0523 the new york times, washington post, and various cable news reports have arrived at the capitol building

0600 the morning news begins to cover the event

0615 the white house announces a press briefing for later that evening

mwm? also i’m from the uk and don’t really have a *huge* grasp on the american political system — could you recommend any reading / resources for that?

as for resources ! other than taking our lovely and very fictionalized television shows as a general idea ( the west wing and house of cards actually both are huge in exemplifying congress and the whitehouse in easily digestible ways, the latter however does contain actor kevin spacey as a warning ). dummies has a cheat sheet specifically for those from the united kingdom trying to understand our mess, i highly recommend listening to a few episodes of podcasts like the daily ( the new york times ) or pod save america these are more liberal leaning  but over all do a wonderful job of presenting the views in unbiased ways. these will give you a better idea of the modern political landscape without a specific day in the life.
