Union J - Magazines and TV Screens Tour (28/12/13)
After hearing that one of our favourite boybands were in town, Supreme headed down to City Hall for Union J’s Newcastle show of their ‘Magazines & TV Screens Tour’ and we must say, they were absolutely incredible!
The boys kicked off the show with a newly released ‘Union J’ album track ‘Where Are You Now’ before moving into the fan favourite ‘Beethoven’. The lovely Josh Cuthbert explained that they love their first album so much that they had to perform EVERY song on the album at the concert. This left us speechless as we can’t choose a favourite song ourselves, and apparently, neither could anyone else! The performance for album track ‘Head In The Clouds’ saw the boys get technical and dance behind TV screens with their faces on, showing their heads up in the clouds, which completely blew our minds.
Each of the UJ boys were left to show off their vocal skills by performing a solo track, and first up was George. He decided to perform a mashup of Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ and Flo Rida’s ‘Wild Ones’ and it was AMAZING. Next up, was Jaymi. Performing his idol Beyonce’s ‘Listen’, Jaymi took to the stage and (no offence, boys), it was one of the highlights of the show. The crowd were all on their feet throughout the whole song. After an emotional VT which ended in photos of his newly born son Princeton, JJ took to the stage to sing OneRepublic’s ‘Counting Stars’. Last but not least, Josh came onto the stage, performing Labrinth and Emeli Sande’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’.
Union J paid tribute to one of our fave US stars Taylor Swift during their set by performing not one, not two, not three, not even four, but FIVE of her hits in a medley. The performance saw the boys taking on ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘22’, ‘Love Story’, and ‘Everything Has Changed’, while an emotional montage of the boys’ time on X Factor played in the background. The boys also covered Demi Lovato’s (and now Sam Bailey’s) ‘Skyscraper’ during their set, explaining that if they’d have won The X Factor, it actually would have been their winner’s single! Who’d have known?
The boys obviously performed all three of the singles from their debut album to the roaring Newcastle crowd. ‘Carry You’ was the first hit to be performed, being the fifth song they sang. ‘Beautiful Life’ followed towards the end of the set, before the boys tricked their fans into thinking it was the end of the show and performing their latest release, the Jason Derulo-penned ‘Loving You Is Easy’, as the encore song before telling the crowd they hoped everyone had a great show and thanked their band and then disappearing backstage.
The boys put on an amazing show and left us wanting more as soon as it was over and the Supreme team are very much looking forward to seeing more of the boys in 2014 and in the near future!
