1985. Relentless

is the debut album by band Pentagram. It was initially self-released in 1985 as Pentagram, This album is now commonly known as Relentless.

The band was formed in 1971, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release a full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with an almost completely new lineup.

The album contains a mix of new songs and 1970s-era songs, as will all the Pentagram albums to follow. The record’s heavier sound and obscure lyrical themes helped cement Pentagram’s reputation as one of the pioneers of the classic doom metal style. While their influence over doom metal may be second only to Black Sabbath.

For an album that is so perfect, there isn’t much else to say, The riffs and the downtuned guitars is what makes this album so damn great and memorable.

Is it true that Pelle shot himself with ammunition that Varg sent to Øystein for Christmas? He once said in an interview that yes and then that no.

So what is the truth?

He said he had sent the ammo to PELLE, not Øystein. Which is, imo, evidence that he is lying. Why? Let's find out:

That would have been Christmas 1990, and whatever his contact with Mayhem was, it was limited at that time. I also believe he was exchanging letters with Øystein only.

He said he saw Pelle only one time irl.

I kinda doubt they were even "friends" or close enough for him to send him.... Christmas gifts? 🎄 Seriously, does he want us to believe they were wishing merry Christmas to each other in the scene and sending gifts?

Furthermore, that shotgun wasn't even Pelle's to begin with, so there's zero sense in Varg sending the ammo to him, when he wasn't owning any firearms.

It's 100% a story where Varg is inserting himself in order to appear very involved in historic BM events such as Pelle's suicide. When in reality he was reading LOTR in his jacuzzi in Bergen 🤷

I really like the parts of Invincible Shield that stand out to me. The highs are much higher than Firepower. However, I think Firepower is more consistent and there are less parts that make me cringe.

Invincible Shield is super overhyped. It's nowhere near peak Priest. It just has higher highs than they've had since Painkiller, which isn't saying much considering the missteps since then.

Admittedly, Tobias himself has dispelled the myth that Ghost was heavily inspired by Blue Oyster Cult... but, dammit, the similarities remain! It's all there. Hard rock / heavy metal that's creepy and weird while simultaneously surprisingly accessible.

I've been a good sleeper for at least the past 7 years. I lay down in my bed and I just go to sleep. It's usually not an issue unless my stomach goes funny, or I'm too sick, or something out of my control happens that makes sleeping difficult.

My friend was an insomniac and, ever since he died 2 months ago, I'm now infected with his insomnia. It's not all the time, but I'm just really struggling when it happens because it's not something I've struggled with in a very long time. It's just so frustrating.

I already struggle with my sleep schedule. My instincts are always to stay up all night, as late as possible. But when I finally go to bed... I'm just so used to falling asleep. And now that doesn't always happen without hours of struggling. Damn.

Anaal Nathrakh - On Being a Slave

I had to post 2 in a row from these guys. Their formula is just too damn good. The black metal base with the grindcore unhinged factor and the mainsteam metal clean vocals that shouldn't work, but do. It's just such a great band.

Anaal Nathrakh - Endarkenment

This band had me in an absolute chokehold last year. I could not listen to anything else for about a month. They are WAY TOO FUCKING LOUD black metal mixed with grindcore and clean vocals that are sort of hard to pin down. Imagine late era Emperor if they swapped prog for grind.

Asmegin - Af Helvigum

Is this technically black metal? I actually don't even know. But this is a folk metal classic that is black metal adjacent enough. A must-have for people who love that swamp witch aesthetic.

Spider God - I Want it That Way [Backstreet Boys Cover]

I've been holding back on you guys. All this time I've had knowledge of black metal covers of Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Kanye West, etc. and I didn't tell you... but that ends now!
