Admittedly, Tobias himself has dispelled the myth that Ghost was heavily inspired by Blue Oyster Cult... but, dammit, the similarities remain! It's all there. Hard rock / heavy metal that's creepy and weird while simultaneously surprisingly accessible.

I've been a good sleeper for at least the past 7 years. I lay down in my bed and I just go to sleep. It's usually not an issue unless my stomach goes funny, or I'm too sick, or something out of my control happens that makes sleeping difficult.

My friend was an insomniac and, ever since he died 2 months ago, I'm now infected with his insomnia. It's not all the time, but I'm just really struggling when it happens because it's not something I've struggled with in a very long time. It's just so frustrating.

I already struggle with my sleep schedule. My instincts are always to stay up all night, as late as possible. But when I finally go to bed... I'm just so used to falling asleep. And now that doesn't always happen without hours of struggling. Damn.

Anaal Nathrakh - On Being a Slave

I had to post 2 in a row from these guys. Their formula is just too damn good. The black metal base with the grindcore unhinged factor and the mainsteam metal clean vocals that shouldn't work, but do. It's just such a great band.

Anaal Nathrakh - Endarkenment

This band had me in an absolute chokehold last year. I could not listen to anything else for about a month. They are WAY TOO FUCKING LOUD black metal mixed with grindcore and clean vocals that are sort of hard to pin down. Imagine late era Emperor if they swapped prog for grind.

Asmegin - Af Helvigum

Is this technically black metal? I actually don't even know. But this is a folk metal classic that is black metal adjacent enough. A must-have for people who love that swamp witch aesthetic.

Spider God - I Want it That Way [Backstreet Boys Cover]

I've been holding back on you guys. All this time I've had knowledge of black metal covers of Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Kanye West, etc. and I didn't tell you... but that ends now!

Make sure to check out their album, Black Renditions. It's sugary bubble gum black metal. It makes no sense, but at the same time it actually makes all the sense in the world.

Dodsferd - Preaching Death and Destruction

Dodsferd is one of those rare bands where the black metal does not feel like fiction. I genuinely believe he hates religion this much; I genuinely believe he finds humanity so miserable.

He just sounds like he means it.

Listening to thrash is kinda boring, but I'm so sure in my mind it's what Dude listened to the most growing up and I'm determined to find some lesser known stuff I like. With how I have him aged in my little world over here, he would have been a teen when thrash got popular in the 80's and it would have been the perfect outlet for him to act rebellious. It needs to be on the playist...

Horna - Askeesi

I've seen a lot of people hate on the Sanojesi äärelle album for being too long and too samey. Legitimate criticism. For me, personally, it sort of just boils down to being too much of a good thing. It's an incredible album with super consistent quality the whole way through. Spectacular atmosphere.

Is it too long? Of course, but I can't dock points from an album this good for being inconvenient. Now forget about my commentary and listen to some spectacular black metal.

This song is top 10 black metal for me. Period.

Abigor - As Astral Images Darken Reality

A more serious Abigor post. A great song from their most classic album. I'm sort of at a loss for words.

The founding member of Abigor, Peter Kubik, commit suicide on August 31 of 2024. He showed fantastic talent throughout his career. Abigor is well known for their consistency and for good reason.

Abigor - Battlestar Abigor

I'm going to do this band a great disservice by posting their most unpopular material. Why? Because I like it.

This album is a total mess. It sounds bad, some of the songs sound like they just sort of did it in one take and said fuck it. On some tracks from this record, the keyboards sound like they're coming from a speaker behind you. You can tell they were just fucking around and I really like the vibe this album has as a result.
