your fic black mass (which i assume this post is about) is amazing!! genuinely the best au i've ever read. you kept all characterizations intact in a strange new setting, and did so beautifully. the pining was my favorite part, and i'm sorry that this reader doesn't agree.
however, the internet is hell on earth! so don't let this stuff get to you. you've created a beautiful story that you should be proud of, regardless of any criticism. i've had my fair share of hate, and you'll be so much happier if you can ignore it. people can be vicious with comments but i don't think this was one of those times - they complimented your work, too.
i know my opinion is unsolicited, but a bookmark like this doesn't deserve an angry post. save that energy for writing more angst haha (joke) (maybe). i hope you had a good trip!
friendly reminder that bookmarks are public.
Tumblr media
but also—they don’t have to be!
authors (and everyone else) can see your bookmarks unless you set them to private!
this is all free. i do not get a single thing out of writing beyond my own enjoyment. i don’t write for anyone but myself, even when i write something for someone else, as a gift, i do that because i love writing. i’m not a published author, i am not asking for critiques.
this is supposed to be fun. comments like this make me not want to write and make me Not Have A Fun Time. this makes me, honestly, not even give a Single Fuck about the epilogue. my entire trip i wanted to get home and write. i was planning and thinking but now i’m like fuck.
maybe i should get thicker skin, maybe a small comment shouldn’t get me so upset, but that’s what fandom is built on. sharing and a give and take. mutual understanding that holy shit, someone wrote this. created this, so let’s be kind.
and don’t get me started on the ‘you’re putting stuff on the internet, expect some people to not like it’ bs because i know that. but i also know, because i do it, if you don’t like something you don’t have to say shit. i don’t like something? i close out of it.
i’d never dream of leaving a comment like this, but we all know that because we’ve talked about what to do when you don’t like something so. many. times. so this is all redundant but i’m tired of smiling and ignoring it and being nice.
i can’t make y’all act right, all i can do is get up on my soap box and look like a moron talking about this again.
i don’t give a fuck if you don’t like what i write, write a 16 page essay on how fucking awful it is but if you’re going to leave negative shit on the things people create, for free and clearly because they love it (they posted it), then do it privately. not on the bookmarks, not on goodreads. not on tiktok, not on instagram.
if you’re gonna be a dick, be smart about it.
don’t post shit sandwich comments, if you don’t have anything but nice things to say don’t say anything at all.
it’s discouraging, it’s hard to sit there and read that. and y’all wonder why writers leave the fandom.

i love this quote even though i had to read it a few times lol
A deceiver may have an outward plan while keeping true motivations hidden from their victim; much as Draco advised during occlumency lessons, our deceiver will pretend to reveal one intention as a distraction while successfully keeping their real goals concealed. The ability to see through such false intentions comes with careful patience. Once one identifies the duplicity and sees reasoning for it, they can avoid falling for a second trick, or a third.
When our deceiver realizes the ploys are ineffective, they will work to incorporate the truth into their tactics for plausibility. Redeveloping a ruse on the foundation of candor makes the reality itself appear invalid. A wary person can still uncover the manipulations once considered true, so that ostensibly straightforward plans turn out to be wildly convoluted.
The last metaphor demonstrates that Apollo, in all his divine power, was matched by something as unimpressive as a snake's wit. Similarly, Draco emphasizes during their combat training that Hermione must outsmart her enemy: a clever mind consistently rivals physical strength. Another interpretation of the metaphor is Apollo's rays as the light of knowledge - as the act of illuminating a deceiver's intricate schemes and translating them into something much simpler. Hermione does this with Draco: taking his contradicting behaviors and stemming them down to a root problem.
your work is so beautiful!! im reading the fic for the first time and the writing is astonishing 💗
Can you explain the meaning of this quote? “The fanfare is in the light, but the execution is in the dark” it keeps cropping up but I don’t really get what it means
Oh yes. The full quote pops up twice in the story. Here it is:
The fanfare is in the light but the execution is in the dark, the purpose being always to mislead. Intention is revealed to divert the attention of the adversary, then it is changed to gain the end by what was unexpected. But insight is wise, wary, and waits behind its armor. Sensing always the opposite of what it was to sense and recognizing at once the real purpose of the trick, it allows every first hint to pass, lies in wait for a second, and even a third. The simulation of truth now mounts higher by glossing the deception and tries, through truth itself to falsify. It changed the play in order to change the trick and makes the reason appear the phantom by founding the greatest fraud upon the greatest candor. But wariness is on watch seeing clearly what is intended, covering the darkness that was clothed in light, and recognizing that design most artful which looks most artless. In such fashion, the wiliness of Python is matched against the simplicity of Apollo’s penetrating rays.

villain who is terrified of dying saying "i would die for you" is also one of my personal favs
As much as I love ‘I would kill for you’, it kinda really loses its impact if the person saying it is a villain who already kills at the slightest provocation
’I would refrain from killing for you, I would spare them all if you asked me’ is a very sexy alternative, and a much more powerful declaration of love coming from a character prone to violence
