3 doraemon movies were the highest grossing animated movie worldwide in 3 different years; the movies were doraemon: nobita's dinosaur (1980), doraemon: nobita's great adventure into the underworld (1984), doraemon: nobita and the knights on dinosaurs (1987).

doraemon is: the 10th highest grossing animated movie franchise worldwide, the highest grossing movie franchise in japan and the highest grossing non-english movie franchise in the world.

doraemon is the 6th best selling comic series worldwide. the ranking includes japanese manga and european/american comic series/graphic novels. considering doraemon is the only children's manga in the top 10, it's the best selling one worldwide.

doraemon is the 5th best selling manga of all time in japan. no other children's manga appears in the ranking, making it the best selling one in japan, too.

☆ Cultural Impact

in 2008 the japanese ministry of foreign affairs appointed doraemon as the first anime cultural ambassador in order to help people in other countries understand anime better and to deepen their interest in japanese culture.

doraemon has inspired other mangakas, such as eiichiro oda (the creator of one piece) and masashi kishimoto (the creator of naruto).

doraemon is also referred as something with the ability to satisfy all wishes and was mentioned in other successful manga like nana and gintama.

i just watched watchmojo’s top 10 most popular anime in japan (keyword: japan) and they listed doraemon as #6, dragon ball as #5 and one piece as #4 when that should’ve been top 3 💀 and on top of that, 2 khia (unknown) children’s anime as top 2 wtf…

now i’m not japanese but i know for a fact those 2 (i don’t even remember the names lord have mercy), are NOT more successful than sailor moon (#10), doraemon, dragon ball, detective conan (#3), one piece or even crayon shin-chan (#8 i think)…

and for some reason pokémon wasn’t even included despite being shown in the intro of the video???? i’m not even a fan, never been, but i know damn well it’s HUGE.

+ i just checked, the names of the top 2 are saeze-san (#1) and chibi maruko-chan (#2), please tell me i’m not crazy or ignorant for not knowing either… doraemon should’ve been #1 considering the prime minister of japan literally named the main character as ambassador of anime or whatever it was, and it also has the stats/numbers to back it up. they also literally used doraemon as the thumbnail of the video…

Sue sucks tho. Gian should be used in English more but is generally interchangeable with his 70 other names.

Suneo's family owns a villa on Yojohanjima Island. (A parody of Hachijojima Island.) Sometimes he invites Gian and Shizuka (and rarely Nobita) to stay over.

While they're there, they swim, go fishing, and collect sea snails for food.
