i can’t really think of anyone that most people in the US would have less general sympathy for than a dead health insurance CEO. like take all the bad things about corporate monopolies that you’d experience with like your phone or internet provider and then add on the financial incentive to let thousands of people die of preventable illnesses and then bill their families for it. literally an institution that automates social murder. even the most burgerpilled american must cheer for this man’s death

Hey, it’s not your fault. You were just a kid. You may still BE a kid. But I know a few things for certain:
You didn’t ask to be born into this world.
You didn’t ask to be treated the way that you were treated—whether it was by bullies, parents, or other family members.
You didn’t ask to “be a burden” to your caregivers, you deserved that space to be loved and safe
You didn’t ask for your consent to be broken.
You didn’t ask for the shame and guilt someone put you through.
You aren’t bad for something happening to you. You aren’t your trauma.
I’m sorry if you were ever made to feel that way, and I know that may never mean much coming from a stranger, but I know it’s something I wish I heard more.

a while ago I read this sci-fi short story from the 50s where a guy is kidnapped and interrogated by aliens using a very sophisticated lie detector, but he realizes that the lie detector works off technical truth, and with some careful phrasing and misdirection, he manages to make them believe that humans are a race of immortal, overpowered, omniscient telepathic beings. and it works.
my favorite part is when he tells them that humans are "capable of transportation without the aid of spaceships or any vehicles, just by using mental power to control physical matter". it's true, we can. it's called walking.
