"I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time," Scott said as he entered her office, "Jean asked if I could take care of the marriage license and realized I have no idea how to apply for one. Can you help me out, Rogue?"

"I'm sure she's fine, Vision," Scott offered sympathetically, "She's very capable of taking care of herself. But I get it. Women are complicated. Sometimes they want their space and sometimes they want us to chase after them. Trying to figure out which is which is frustrating. But no, Vision, you're doing the right thing. Showing them you care and being honest is the best way to show the other person that you're invested."

Summer sighed and shook his head. “Sorry, Vision. Haven’t heard a word from her. But if I see her, I’ll let her know you’re looking for her. Everything okay between the two of you?”

So it was a new dead end. “I don’t think it would be necessary.” He replied with a polite smile. “I already told her I was a bit worried, I simply hope she is fine. But to reply to your question, I’m not sure actually. I read that silence is not always a good thing nor a bad one. I do not wish to be too insistent, yet I suppose showing that I still care and that I’m still concerned is… well… not a bad thing in a relationship, is it?”

“I already took it Slim, you gonna have to deal with it. But like I said, gonna be fine.”

Jean took a deep breath and settled into his arms. She closed her eyes and focused on the feeling of his fingers in her hair, on her scalp, on her temples. She felt at this moment the weight of the world disappear, the voices too, like a shield being created around her , where she could set down her crown and just be herself a bit more. She nodded at his “order” and did indeed feel herself get into a sleepy state of mind, one where even the phoenix couldn’t reach her.

Scott could feel how in his arms she seemed to relax. He wanted to help and this was the only way he seemed to know how. He couldn’t do anything like the Professor, but he could always be there for her, no matter what. As she seemed to drift off he simply kept massaging her head, glad that he could be of some help to the woman who would always have his heart.

Scott was heading back to the institute after doing his daily jog when he spotted Logan driving out of the garage. In his car. He was at a standstill in both shock and anger as Logan pulled up to him. “Oh no. No, no, no. You are not taking my car, Logan.”

Jean let him move her, as they sat, she melted into him and closed her eyes. His heart beat always felt like peace, shelter from the storm. She knew just how much he was doing and would do for her no matter what. Sometimes that scared her. She tried to calm his anger, but as soon as she focused on that, the pain became unbearable and she stopped immediately, tensing up under his hand. “I love you my sweet prince” she whispered in his head.

He kept massaging her calp, letting his fingers loosen the muscles under her skin. He felt her tense up under his touch and he paused before slowly running his fingers to her forehead and gently kneading the skin there. He heard her voice in his head and he smiled before placing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “Shhh, don’t strain yourself, babe,” he muttered against her hair, “I love you too. Just relax for now.”

Scott’s brow furrowed before glancing down at his watch. He heaved a sigh before running his fingers through his hair. “That is tonight, isn’t it? My bad, kid. Give me like three minutes, okay? You want to go get the game set up?”

He should have known it, of course that what it was all about. Hearing it seemed to suddenly calm down the mutant, not saying shit about that, just staring at those stupid red glasses in front of him. “Feeling better you moron?” He finally asked after a few long seconds. “I’m not apologizing ‘bout that to you. Now back off.” He coldly added.

Scott probably should just back off, but the fact that Logan didn’t seem that concerned or apologetic about it was enough for him to lower his glasses for a brief second to blast him across the room. “That’s for Jean,” he said as soon as he covered his eyes again.

Scott sighed rather sadly as he brought a hand up to cradle her face and caress her cheek with his thumb. “Okay, Jean,” he muttered softly, slowly standing up and moving to sit with her so he could hold her and massage her scalp. He was furious with Logan and was adamant to give that man a piece of his mind the next time he saw him but for now, his sole focus was on Jean.

“What the…” That was low even from him, surprising the old man. “After all those years that what you think?!” His opinion was worth nothing, he knew it, yet Logan couldn’t tell why those words were still hurting that much. “Just go fuck yourself.”

Maybe it was a bit cruel, but after seeing the claw marks in Jean’s abdomen, he was a bit hot. “I think that if you weren’t around, Jean wouldn’t have been clawed.”

“I think you know what I’m saying, Logan,” Scott said, squaring off with him. He wasn’t afraid of Logan or what that he could do and he never would be. “From the first time you stepped foot here you’ve brought nothing but trouble. And it seems every time you come here you bring it with you.”

Scott narrowed his gaze, not giving her an answer as she lifted her shirt. He recognized the claw marks and his vision went even more red. “Logan.....I swear I’m going to kill that man the next time I see him....”

“Well, can you blame me, Logan? Given everything that’s happened? You have any idea how much of a mess everything is around here? Half the kids are scared to even step foot out of the Institute, Bobby and Kitty are complete messes and jump at every little thing so excuse me if I’m trying to make sure that everyone here has some place they can feel safe.”
