Chapter 13 fieldwork: Immigration
For this assignment I interviewed my friend and partner Adrianna in my sociology law class, Adrianna is African, she emigrated from Cameroon when she she 9 years old June 20, 2010. Her and her family emigrated because of the lack of opportunities. Andrianna's mother was the first to emigrate in 2003. She came with her brother and sisters both 10 years of age. For the first 3 years her mother would go from house to house but then began working two jobs in a shop and caregiving while also in college. Her mothers brother ( Adrianna's uncle) bought her her first car & her mom was then able to get an apartment. From her mom already being in the U.S it made it easier from her and her siblings to get a visa. Once Adrianna started school she did not speak English only French. while in Cameroon she had just finished 3rd grade but because of how old she was technically in the U.S she was supposed to be in the 4th grade. Adrianna was in a ESOL program (English for speakers of other languages) while also taking regular classes. With that being said her family and her transitioned over to using English within there household causing Adrianna to loose some of her native language (French). Since she did not speak english in grade school Adrianna was outcastes for not being able to communicate with other students also at the same time her mother was gaining her citizenship. During that time Adrianna and her family learned to adapt to American culture changing the way they spoke, dress, interacted with others. Adrianna found that adjusting to a new accent as a kid was easier than an adult changing their accent. Adrianna's experience in elementary school was hard because the kids were ignorant and unfair, they did not take well to foreigners. The kids in the elementary School took to bullying her, until she finally learned the American language she began to stand up for herself. This had a really big impact on Adrianna because it caused her to disassociate from other africans until she got to high school and began to associate and embrace her culture more. In 2012 Adrianna's dad emigrated to the U.S and began living with the family. For her dad, back in Cameroon he was already fully established and successful, once he got to the U.S. he had to go through the whole college process of gaining a degree in accounting once more and decided not to. From there he decided to just to do different jobs back and forth. Adrianna's mom obtained her citizenship in 2016 which made Adrianna and her sibling citizens through their mother, she also graduated from college in 2016. Adrianna says that she will forever be grateful for her Mothers decision to migrate to the U.S for a better life, Although she loved Cameroon she says she would be lying if she said that moving to the U.S. was not the best choice. Current day Adrianna's family visits Cameroon every two years.

Chapter 10 Field Work
Marx's Theory
In this story it illustrates how the Hunger games movies fits the sociological aspect of social class. The film also includes social themes of functionalism, symbolic interactionism and of course conflict theory. This aligns with Marx social class theory because Marx predicts that the proletariat will eventually rise against the bourgeoisie.
Weber's Theory
Nickel & Dimed is a book that offers a look into low-income life in America. The author of this book took time to learn why a large number of hard working people always struggle to earn money and live a comfortable life style. This book aligns with Weber's social class theory of social stratification.
Bourdieu's Theory
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jtsb.12225
The theory of social behavior talked about two key factors that stems from Bourdieu's Theory. How Bourdieu analyses the relationship between structure and habitus, and the other is the place of reflexivity in Bourdieu's work.

Chapter 9 field work questions
1) I chose those particular questions to keep the questions simple but still allowing answers to vary. Also, I was curious about the way my generation perceived marriage views & polygamy.
2) In my responses , my participants views were more of the same the alll desired to get married and did not prefer polygamy themselves but did not shame others for it. Three of my participants were in the same age group while one was not, she was an adult but her opinions on the topics were still close to the same
3) One thing that surprised me was hearing from a males POV of why and how polygamy is not something they preferred. Given the way I see males in this generation the answer’s surprised me.
4) If I were to do this assignment again, I would have my participants elaborated on the questions a bit more & find ways to work around their answers such as giving them scenarios, this will consider them to look at all sides and POV’s

This is my family, I am a middle child and I have two brothers. Our ethnicity is just african american. I was born & raised in baltimore and so where my parents. My grandparents as well were born in this country except my grandmother is from philadelphia & my grandad was from Baltimore but met my grandma on spring break.
I can’t really speak to much on my families views of nationalism because we were all born & raised in the same country under the same political views and values so in a way its kind of hard for us to have any other views on other nations without really living and abiding by other values. However I do believe that the nationalism our country puts out can be sometimes off putting to other countries and people but I do believe our values are sometimes in the right place but often misinterpreted and used in the wrong ways

Fieldwork 5: Race and Racism
Jim Crow:
Laws implemented after the U.S. Civil War to enforce segregation legally, particularly in the South, after the end of slavery.
I chose this image to represent who this entity "Jim Crow" was and how he was interpreted before it was turned into a set of laws. Jim Crow was heavily used as a mockery against black people.
White Supremacy :
The belief that whites are biologically different from and superior to people of other races.
In this picture this is what I believe to be a protest taking place by the ku klux klan. I used this picture because this is a group that heavily supports white supremacy and believes that the white race is superior.
Colonialism:
The practice by which a nation-state extends political, economic, and military power beyond its own borders over an extended period of time to secure access to raw materials, cheap labor, and markets in other countries or regions.
I chose this picture to show a visual representation of how colonists would invade new land beyond it own borders by force and take over while utilizing that lands goods.
Racism :
Individuals' thoughts and actions and institutional patterns and policies that create or reproduce unequal access to power, privilege, resources, and opportunities based on imagined differences among groups
I chose this picture to illustrate what some people in society do to bring awareness the racism which is protest. This typically happens when an unjust crime is committed and no justice comes to the victim or it is not publicized enough.
Microaggression :
Common, everyday verbal or behavioral indignities and slights that communicate hostile, derogatory, and negative messages about someone's race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
I chose this picture to demonstrate some comments that are often said that scream Microaggression toward different ethnic groups.
Institutional racism :
Patterns by which racial inequality is structured through key cultural institutions, policies, and systems
I used this picture to give examples of where institutional racism problem may lie and in what system do most of the occurrences happen.

Felidwork #2 (Part 1)
From making this list It was hard to separate my wants from my needs considering the fact that I ironically think I need every. While making the list I started to take into consideration that some of those wants I can live without even though at first it may seen impossible majority of my wants are things that people once had to live with and/or are not accessible to them.

• The history of this item dates back as far as 5500 BCE. Combs were used the earliest amongst Eqyptians, however Persians also developed combs around about 3000 BCE.
•For the most part combs are manufactured all over the United States with various manufacturers sites and locations. One of the biggest comb manufacturers resides in Chicago and sell to various popular hair brands.
•Owning a comb has impacted my life because it allows me to make quick corrections to my hair when Im on the go, especially the smaller portable combs. Combs also help in assisting a desired hair style
• Life for the people who make the combs in the U.S involve long working labor hours However as far as they are being treated or what they’re life is like I was not able to find information on that. Lastly I did find that the comb manufacturing business makes about 1.17 billion dollars.

Time-space Compression:
For my example I used an airplane to represent this component because It effectively makes place closer you or transports you from one place to another.
Flexible Accumulation:
I used this Image of migration to represent this component because flexible accumulation increases the movement of people between countries.
