How do you celebrate the shortest night of the year on Winter Solstice? How bout a hot relaxing bath, a bourbon and a photo shoot? I have had the idea for these shots for a while now. Tonight I finally got a chance to set it up to attempt to take it. Not sure if I like the black & white, sepia or foggy ones the best. I was able to take a break from a very busy fall and head for the Black Hills a few days ago with a couple of my best friends. While we were there they were gracious enough to road trip Spearfish Canyon so I could take a few pictures. I live in one of the most beautiful areas of Nebraska with tons of waterfalls but just might have a new favorite in the hills and can't believe I had never seen it before. What is it like to be a photographer???? Well, first thing is that you rarely have pictures of yourself and that's okay. You especially do not have photos of yourself while you are working whether it is on nature photos or a graduate session. But I have a great friend who caught a few pictures of me taking graduate photos of her daughter, our youngest Goddaughter last year. (I didn't even know about these until a few days ago....she is one of my great friends and apparently she is very sneaky!) She also got some more pictures of me taking nature photos in the Black Hills last weekend while we were on a girls weekend. I asked her to get these so I was not as surprised. I thought you might want to see. A few new photos of the beautiful Nebraska Sandhills in sepia. Something about prints or canvas in sepia really speak to me. I absolutely love the warm shading and how the light plays in different ways than the same print in color. In fact, for the first few years I was featuring my photos for shows I very rarely ever brought one in color. It is something I evolved into. I love me some wildflowers!! This year has not disappointed. We have a fabulous year with blessed rains with one of the best years of my memories for different species of wildflowers blooming all through the summer. Despite my allergies, I have enjoyed taking photos of many of them. So one on of my journey's in the last few weeks (more on this in later posts), I somehow found the state wildflower of Oklahoma in North Central Nebraska. Wow! What wonderful display of color.
