my favorite part about being an instrumentalist is that you become your instrument in a referral sense. no one in band calls someone a “trumpet player”. just “a trumpet”. The trumpet. they and their trumpet are now one. there is no going back.

90% of being a musician is being convinced you’re horrible and you’ll never improve but hacking away at whatever you’re working on anyway because what else could you possibly do

I hadn't heard that detail until now
I love how music doesn’t have anything you can express that is bad. You can easily use bad words in any language but there is none of that in music. There are chords that don’t sound good but nobody will slap you for playing a note that can offend someone.

We’re not the only ones who suddenly starts dancing when Rite of Spring comes on, right? And I mean like…similar to the ballet kind of dancing.

One of the most important things to remember about music theory is that music came first. Music existed for thousands of years before theory came along to explain what people were trying to accomplish when pounding on their drums. So don’t ever think that you can’t be a good musician just because you’ve never taken a theory class. In fact, if you are a good musician, you likely already know a lot of theory. You simply may not know the terminology or technicalities.

even more no rules than music with no rules

getting real sick and tired of reading articles about ~the rise of female bands and musicians which are prefaced with some kind of ‘don’t get me wrong there are still plenty of men making great music as well’ bullshit
well shit for a second i was worried that this male dominated industry was starting to run low on boring, derivative bullshit - thank fuck you let me know there’s still an excessive amount of it
