"You seem troubled."

Eyes refocus on Shadow as you sit out in the darkness of the night, stars twinkling in the sky as you take in the beauty of them. 

Shadow had joined you outside as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles energy were all quite a handful, he'd admit. Not that it was a bad thing to say the least. 

He still wasn't fully adjusted to this yet. 

Shadow had witnessed you distance yourself from everyone as you quietly made your disappearance. Tails suggested that you had a lot on your mind and needed some space.

Shadow found himself going out his way to check on you even though no one had asked him to. There was a magnetic connection between the two of you that drawn him closer to you.

Besides, he could use the air anyways.

"I'm fine, just needed to clear my head." You finally spoke out with a lopsided smile. Clearly there was something on your mind that had been bothering you.

Who knows how long for. 

"To clear your head?" Shadow furrows his brows at your attempt to brush it off as nothing; his way to expressing concern was different than how others showed theirs. 

He wasn't going to force you to say what was on your mind. Shadow made it known in his actions and statements that he was well...a bit concerned.

He was used to your cheerful personality, with a hint of sarcasm here and there. But now, it had been toned down. 

God.

He was starting to get flashbacks from when him and Maria used to stargaze. It was one of those times where he had began to make himself more vulnerable with her.

No.

Now wasn't the time to reminisce on old times with Maria.  He was sure you wouldn't mind; you knew what it felt like to lose someone close to you in a heartbeat and how certain things or people reminded you of said person.

And so, Shadow sits down beside you, leaving a gap between you. Though he invited himself to sit down, you didn't mind. You can use a bit of company even if you don't speak much.

goodbye's are bittersweet

summary: you reminded him so much of her. So much of maria. but you weren't her. she was a human, you were a hedgehog; two completely different species. yet why is it when he looks at you, that's all he's reminded of? [part one]

"He looks just like you." Tails pointed out as the four of you stood before the stranger that was identical to your teammate.

"Impossible." Knuckles states to the rather unusual sight in front of them.

The hedgehog resembling a lot like Sonic was black with red highlights and a tuff white fur staining his chest.

"You're a colorful bunch." He states nonchalantly. His eyes narrowed between Sonic, Knuckles and Tails before they ultimately fall onto you.

"Yeah it's really uncanny how similar they look." You add in, examining the hedgehog closely. There were so many similarities between the two, but so many differences simultaneously. It was weird.

"Um excuse me, why do you look like me?" Sonic quizzed with a raised brow.

"I don't look like you." He states boldly, as if it would make any difference. "You look like me. Why do you look like me?"

"We get it, you two look a like." You stepped in before they would go back and forth in terms of their identical appearance. You pose a harmless smile as you propped an arm on Sonic's shoulder, using him as an arm rest. "The point here is we're kinda getting off topic here."

The black and red hedgehog shoots you a look but he doesn't say anything. All he does is stare rather intensely at you as he was examining you relatively close.

Oddly you reminded him so much of her. But you weren't her. She was a human, you were a hedgehog; two completely different species. Yet why is it when he looks at you, that's all he's reminded of?

"Hey, you know what," Sonic waves his hands with a grin. "I'll ask the questions, new hedgehog."
