Cleaning Hacks
By now we hope you’ve gotten a chance to try some of our delicious snack hacks. Whether you made breakfast in the microwave or treated yourself to desert with the roommates, by now your kitchen must be a little dirty. Don’t stress, these 5 tips will help you get your kitchen back to mom-approved cleanliness in no time!
1. Ice Cubs for the Garbage Disposal
Tumblr media
Throw some ice cubs down your garbage disposal, along with a cup of salt. Put the water on and run the disposal for 20 seconds.
2. Quick Microwave Clean
Tumblr media
Clean your microwave with just a lemon! Slice one into two halves and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes. Take a sponge and wipe away any excess food.
3. Self-Cleaning Blender
Tumblr media
After you’ve made your smoothie of choice, fill the blender halfway with hot water, and add dish soap. Turn the blender on for about 45 seconds. Pour it out and rinse.
4. Scraping the Bottom
Tumblr media
Burnt food sucks...cleaning the burnt pan sucks even more. It can actually be super easy to clean! Sprinkle baking soda generously into the pan, and then add water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, scrape the burnt food right off and then pour the mixture down the drain.

The Importance of Breakfast
Between homework, class, social life and work, it can seem impossible to squeeze in enough sleep! Some of us have a talent of sleeping until the last possible second before class, while others are up early to take care of work before class.
Tumblr media
According to HuffPost, 31 million Americans skip breakfast daily. The majority of that group is college students! This is a huge issue and can have serious consequences, like lack of energy, stress on mental health, binge eating later in the day and low blood sugar levels.
Tumblr media
Breakfast gives you the boost in the morning you need to get through morning classes. An apple has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. The influx of nutrients, sugar and protein into your body gives you energy, helping you to stay focused in class.
Tumblr media
If you don’t grab a bite in the morning, you’ll be feasting for lunch! Having a cheat day every once in a while is fine, but you’ll end up consuming a huge lunch without breakfast. Studies have suggested that eating in the morning even helps to lose weight.
A recent study has also found evidence that breakfast can enhance memory, creativity, capacity to process information and reason, logical thinking and speaking. That’s basically a cheat sheet to help you pay attention and ace class for the day!
Not a ton of time to prepare food before class? No sweat! Keep scrolling for easy to-go snacks for class!

Class Snacks
Hey Snack Hackers! This week we’re focusing on snacks on-the-go. Whether it’s avoiding a loud chip bag in the lecture hall or avoiding heavy-calorie junk food, we’ve got you covered. Save money and calories with these tips that will never have you hangry in class!
1. Mason Jar Hummus Dippers
Tumblr media

Healthy, yummy and quiet! Fill a mason jar about a quarter of the way with the hummus of your choice. Our favorite is Sabra Roasted Red Pepper, but you can substitute with salsa, guacamole or any other dip! Then, fill the rest of the jar with carrots and celery!
2. Healthy Homemade Chips
Tumblr media

Ditch the processed (and noisy) chip bag for a much healthier version! Make your own chips out of your favorite fruits and veggies with these awesome recipes! Pack them in a plastic baggie and you’re on your way!
3. Breakfast Muffins
Tumblr media

Scramble an egg with your favorite toppings and pour the mixture into a greased muffin tin. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes and you’ll have pre-cooked egg muffins to bring to class. These treats are mess-free, so you’ll never have to worry about missing breakfast again!
4. Portable Parfaits
Tumblr media

Spread a layer of yogurt on the bottom of a small container (about 1/2 an inch). Then, add a layer of your favorite fruit. Then, another layer of yogurt. Repeat these steps until the container is full.
5.  DIY Fruit Rollups
Tumblr media

As a kid, we all loved fruit rollups! Now you can make an adult version that’s perfect to keep in your bag for in between classes. Follow this yummy recipe to make your own fruit leather
