          If there is one God amongst the Olympians that Hades feels something close to fear towards, THAT WOULD BE THE GODDESS APHRODITE. For she is as beautiful as she is merciless, especially when you let her have enough power to do so.

          This is why Hades never let her. Hearts are a complicated organ, even for the God of the Underworld, but if there is one thing Hades knew what to do with it, was closing the gates to his emotions completely. To not let anybody see them, and to not let anything out in return, unless it was anger.

          Admitting that he had fallen for somebody would have been enough to offer power over him to the Goddess, and so, even when Persephone arrived, he kept his doors closed, fearful of feeling the pull of Aphrodite’s influence, nevermind the fact that the Olympians have little to no eyes on the Underworld.

          And yet, in his slumber, and this started when Persephone first arrived, then once more when she left, he could have sworn hearing her in his dreams. Holding his face, whispering to him while Orpheus sang and Hypnos cast his spell.

The grip on his hand grew tighter when he admits his feelings, letting out a deep breath she held in for far too long. They’re still working to get better. They’re still afraid of messing up, of losing what they built together. Despite the warmth of Asphodel, she still feels a shiver going up her spine. For how long did he keep those thoughts for himself? He never was the kind of person who would vent out his fears and personal struggles to anyone but her.

Pressed against him, she didn’t make a sound, silently keeping all her focus on him even as the warmth of the lava was replaced with the nice weather of Elysium, even as she was put back on the soft ground, even when the blindfold was removed, making her take a second to blink and get used the light again…

 …and when silence fell once more, she couldn’t find the words to answer. A hand still holds tight on Hades’, the other moving on her own mouth as soon as she felt a knot in her throat. Of course the house is beautiful, but his words - his soft tone, his shyness and care for her, for their family - filled her with a joy she felt only when she first met their child.

“Hades…!”

A soft sob escapes as she looks up to him, pressing her lips against the back of his hand in a quick, yet caring kiss.

      “I love you! I love you…!”

And if he falls back into silence, it’s to look at her again. His hands craddle and caress her face with the intimacy and care he had shown the very first time he had ever done so. And once again, he realized why this was such a good choice: she looked radiant under Elysium’s light.

He wants her to know that he will be there. If she is present, then he’ll try. He’ll try to be the father and the husband she’s always wanted him to be, he will do it. He wants to, for her. Anything, for her, and he prays that she knows, without him telling her so.

Because there is nothing Hades would never do for her.

And when she tells him she loves him, he can’t help it, and strong arms hold her in yet another embrace, a deeper one, a stronger one that is. 

“ I cannot promise you I will be the father you will wish of me. ” His hand leaves the back of her head and rests once more on her cheek. “ But I will try. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐈 ... 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐲. ”

          There is one person that Hades loved and trusted, that would have been his mother Rhea. In fact, when he was young, he would not let go of his mother for an instant.

Hades was not eaten as an infant, contrarily to most of his kin. Instead, his mother pleaded many times Cronus to spare him for a while longer, and so he did for a couple of years, and those were enough for him to grow closer to her.

His past fondness of the surface and living things ( past fondness that left some very scarce yet present traces ) come from her, and Hades loved her. Hades loved his mother, which is why it made the betrayal so more painful: his mother was powerless when Cronus grabbed him and forced him down his throat, and so, she did nothing.

          All the time spent in his father’s entrails was not enough to ready him for the news once out: his mother had been killed by the hands of their father.

Hades still misses her deeply, which is why he tries to never think of her.
