you stare at the picture of you and chris on your night stand. the idea and memories of him circled in your head, chris broke up with you because he wanted to just be 'friends'. you hate that word. how could you go from loving him into being strictly friends.

the past few days of you guys being broken up, you stayed friends with matt and nick. they didn't deserve to lose a close friend from their brothers actions, so you stayed hanging out with them. being close with matt and nick was easy, and it took your mind off chris. the only hard thing was their brother. chris wanted to tag along and wanted to talk to you but you refused. you did not want anything to deal with chris, for now.

while sitting at your bed staring at the things of chris, your phone buzzed. "CHRIS." was bolded on your screen, you let the phone ring, not daring to pick it up. he continued to call a few times before giving up. after not getting another call for a few minutes it felt like you could breathe... why did you feel weird? seconds later your phone began to buzz, but instead it was a text.

"can we talk?"

"why wont you speak to me??"

"i thought we were good"

chris texted, you left him on read, staring at the gray messages. why would he think you guys could be friends? in what world were you okay with it.

"you left your shirt at my place yk? want me to drop it off?"

you decided to type back.

IN WHICH : chris cheats on his girlfriend during the summer with a girl named augustine..

⟡ ݁₊ . AUGUSTINES POV ⟡ ݁₊ .

i’ve always been hated at school, people would perceive me as a mean girl or was even voted as biggest bitch at my previous high school. i always saw myself as that, a bitch. i never wanted to be mean it was just the negative thoughts that surrounded in my head. until i met chris, although we only knew each other for 2 in a half months he helped me a lot. he made me feel special about myself and helped me feel so many emotions other than anger and sadness.

flashback one

augustine laid on a towel on the sandy beach, the sun kissed her body perfectly as she listened to music and watched the water. while peacefully enjoying the summer air she saw a ball roll towards her in the conner of her eye, turning around to quickly stop it she noticed a tall boy walking towards her, she figured it was his.

once he got closer she lightly pushed the ball towards him, “thanks.” he said. when augustine looked up to see his face she saw one of the most attractive guys ever, augustine never had a special liking to being in a relationship with anybody. but somehow this guy made butterflies in her stomach, “of course.” she smiled.

flashback two

it has been 2 weeks since the day augustine and chris met on the beach. they needed up going to the same restaurant that night so chris asked for her number. they began to get closer and closer, hanging out almost everyday. augustine even gave him a mini tour of the small city, which was weird because augustine knew she would never do this for anybody..but chris was different to her.

chris and augustine sat on her full size bed. augustine was home alone that day so she decided to bring chris over to hang out. the movie “bones and all” played in the background as chris and augustine laughed and chatted together.

“this movie is a little weird..” chris judged the film, “hey i love this movie!” augustine said offended. “i mean it’s not bad but their cannibals!” he yelled out. augustine giggled at this, seeing how chris was feeling iffy of the movie.

chris looked at augustine and admired the way she laughed. he grabbed the side of her cheek to make her look at him, “youre beautiful..” he whispered. augustine was speechless. she’s never experienced this before so she was baffled, her cheeks burned up at the random compliment. chris began to lean in so slowly to her. augustine’s mind was wild, her inexperienced self was so nervous but she did not want to show it.

soon the twos lips connected. they began to make out, their lips found a perfect rhythm for each other. chris leaned into her, wanting and needing more. he moved his hands to her waist and started to hoist her onto his lap.

as they continued to make out, chris’ phone started to buzz. augustine pulled away and tried to look over and see who it was. before she could even reach for it, chris snatched it away and turned it off. “who was that?” she questioned, “nobody baby don’t worry about it.” chris reassured and leaned back in to her soft lips. the nickname ‘baby’ made augustine’s stomach turn.

chris began to reach for augustine’s shirt and tugged on it asking for her to take it off immediately….which she did.

flashback three

augustine and chris decided to have a beach day. they sat together under the hot sun enjoying the view of the clear waters. chris laid on his stomach letting the sun kiss his back, augustine stared at him. she adored the way he looked, her fingers ran through his hair but quickly moved to his back.

she began to trace out the letters, “ A U G U S T I N E” all she wanted to do was write her name across his back, and show off who she truly loved. chris moved his head to stare at her, “that tickles.” she laughed at him and leaned down to kiss his shoulder.

flashback four

today was chris’ final day, he was leaving to go back to his home town. augustine had plans to go to her cousins birthday party but told them she couldn’t go due to being sick, but was she really sick? no. she just needed to say her last goodbye to chris.

after picking up chris, they decided to go to a random parking lot and stayed there to watch the sunset.

“im gonna miss you.” augustine whispered to chris as she laid her head in the knees that were tucked up to her chest. “im gonna miss you too a.” chris told her, reaching his hand to her soft hair and began to run his long fingers through her hair.

“you promise not to grow distant from me?” augustine asked him, “i promise.” he said bringing up his pinky finger. she smiled at this gesture and linked her pinky with his.

chris pulled her into his chest as he kisssd the top of her head. “i love you.” he said in her brunette hair, “i love you.” she said nuzzling herself into his chest.

present time

augustine and chris have been separated for a month and 3 weeks. augustine counted down all the days she wasn’t able to see him, she would cancel plans just in case he’d call and try reaching out multiple times a day. but yet chris grew distant. which felt weird because he promised her not to.

as much as she didn’t want it to be the only thing she would think about, it was. she would have chris in her mind 24/7, the negative thoughts clouding her head over and over as if she had no escape and she was back at square one.

while siting alone in her dark room, she felt her phone buzz, it was her cousin inez. but deep in her thought she prayed it was chris instead.

she didn’t know what to think. there was no way, chris showed so much love for her why would he lie? why would he do that? so many questions popped up in her brain and she couldn’t get it to stop. augustine felt lost and confused.. she decided to text chris about it.

“chris are you fucking serious. you have a girlfriend!” she typed out, the second she sent it she sees the bold letters of ‘READ’

“don’t leave me on read i know your seeing this please just be honest with me!”

“i thought what we had was real”

“i loved you!!!! why would you lie what is your problem?”

but after hitting send.. her message turned green instead of blue.

like this was literally end of 2023 to like mid 2024 it was awful i regret it sm

mind you, i’m a bi girl and that was the first time i had ever genuinely had feelings for a guy, like i’ve always found them attractive but before then i had only dated women yk so it was weird and scary but also kind of a rush, mind you i had NO idea he was dating someone else but on my birthday i found out he was kissing her instead of me and i was a pissed and i like yelled at him in front of her it was so messy and she ended up staying with him but it was so crazy bc they had spread this stupid rumor that i was a home wrecker which i mean yeah technically but i had no idea he was even with someone?? so then my entire friend group became friends with the betty in my situation and i lost alll of my close friends that i had for years so it was kinda crazy

present time

i’ve always felt lonely, yeah i had friends but did they think of me like that? not really. except for chris. he is was the only one who made me feel seen, showed me off to everyone around him and made it seem like i was the most valuable thing in the world. he made sure that i knew i was important, until last summer.

flashback one

betty and chris lay on his bed, betty’s head is on his chest listening to his heart beat and slow breathing. his hold hands snaked on her back, as he ran his hand up and down showing a slightness of affection. her vanilla shampoo and conditioner filled his nostrils, and made him feel warm or safe like. “chris im so happy i have you.” she blurted out randomly, catching him off guard.

he chuckled out of her randomness, “im glad i have you baby.” he said squeezing her side very lightly making her smile. “no like, you make me feel something ive never had before,” she pauses and looks up at him through her mascara eyelashes, “my entire life i’ve been second best. but now i’ve met you, i finally feel important.” finishing while looking back down away from him scared for how he’s going to react to her honesty.

“you’re always going to be number one to me, nothing will ever change that.” he said so softly.

flashback two

chris and betty sat together on her front porch, the moonlight shining down on the two lovers. his arm was around her shoulder as her head nuzzled in his neck. betty let out a deep sigh, “what’s wrong b?” chris asked her while rubbing her shoulder as a way to comfort the girl.

she bit the inside of her cheeks before speaking, “im just upset you won’t be here all summer and you come back during september… that’s too long.” she whispered the last part. chris took a deep breath realizing that she was right. he leaves tomorrow morning and won’t get to see betty for 3 months. “i know… it really is long. but i’ll call you everyday and buy you lots of gifts to make up for it.”

betty giggled knowing that nothing can really go bad, can it? the ‘what if’s’ circled in her head, “you promise not to grow distant from me?” betty questions while holding out her pinky. chris sarcastically rolled his eyes at her while taking his free finger and connecting it with hers, “id never.” while going in to kiss her forehead.

flashback three

it’s been about a month and a half since chris left. for the first weeks of him being away he did stick to his promise, he called her after every long day and texted her while he was out sending her pictures of where he was and what he was doing. but then as of lately he hasn’t been doing it.

yes he would text betty but the calls completely stopped. betty didn’t want to overthink it because she trusted chris, she knew he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her…

but as weeks went by and it hit the 2 month mark of chris being away, the texts were delayed or even dead silent. nothing. betty tried leaving him messages to see how he was doing but all that shined on her phone reflecting back to her was “READ”

betty didn’t have anybody to talk to this with? she didn’t have any best friends, she didn’t have siblings and most of all she wasn’t close with her parents. now with chris ghosting her, betty was completely alone. all she had was her mind and hurtful thoughts. she would think to herself, “chris would never”, “he promised not to do anything to hurt me?” and so on. her thoughts of chris engraved inside of her, the ideas of him randomly ghosting her made her feel physical pain to her chest, but she was unsure on what that feeling was.

while betty was laying on her bed, the soft comforter wrapped around her body acting as if someone were to hold her so tightly. she feels the vibration of her phone buzz, her heart jumped. “is it chris?” she would think to herself, rushing to grab her phone and check the notification. she was wrong.. it was inez, a girl in her school she’s somewhat friends with.

betty’s pounding heart stopped. she felt as if her heart fell down to the bottom of the earth. she stared at the photo that illuminated her dark room, pressing on the image and making it full screen. looking at the picture felt like an eternity, the picture blurred out in her vision due to tears building in her brown eyes. her tears fall down onto the screen, her shoulders shake up and down, and her breathing is unsteady. the bright phone light turned off and left her in the dark once again, she slammed her head back into the pillow as she shoved her face in her hands.

flashback four

“i didn’t mean to!” chris defended himself to the crying girl. chris had came back from his trip and visited betty, but betty did not want to see him. “what do you mean ‘didn’t mean to’ chris!” she raised her shaky voice at him feeling the anger boil up. “you definitely did mean to do that.” she said with warm tears spilling down.

chris felt his heart break as he watched betty break right in front of him. “baby you know i only want you!” chris practically pleaded out, feeling that he couldn’t physically lose his girlfriend. “don’t call me that, i stopped being your baby when you decided to go sleep with that girl. im done chris, never speak to me again.” she said pivoting around into her house and slamming the front door right in his face.

he stood there unable to move. he knew what he did wrong, he knew the pain he’s causing. while standing on his now ex girlfriend’s porch his phone started buzzing. augustine was calling, he swiped to accept the call.

minutes later, chris ended up in the back seat of her car, making out with his summer fling right infront of betty’s home.

first i love folklore and the whole au based around it I'm so excited.

so some ideas i thought of for cardigan was like the story the lyrics tell maybe make it slightly angst with some flashbacks and then towards the end of the song it says:
