Re-reading Index New Testament Volume 3 now that it's out in English, and it's funny how this volume is as close to American political/conspiracy thrillers as Raildex gets, not so much in tone (the Dark Side arcs are much more closer that way) as in aesthetics: a conspiracy reaching the upper echelons of the American government is after a dangerous weapon developed in secret by the US and fomenting a coup within the government.

The difference is in the details. For one, it's not a conspiracy created out of ideology as they usually are in this genre (with the exception of Olay Blueshake I guess), it's instead the much more fantastical scenario of people being outright mind-controlled by magic. Second, the protagonist of these things is usually a young or old retired CIA/NSA/FBI agent, but instead, the one who sniffs out the conspiracy and goes on the run to dismantle it is...the goddamned President himself.

(I am aware there are conspiracy thrillers where the President is the main character and investigator, like Designated Survivor and the times Jack Ryan is president, but it's fairly rarer than Alphabet Agency Man.)

But of course, the ultimate difference from the usual thrillers is that this stuff is a side plot. The real main characters are Kamijou's group and their conflict against the rogue magic cabal of Gremlin, the conspiracy plot just so happens to be what they fight over this time. It's to the point President Roberto Katze is just a secondary character (an important one mind you) they happen to meet by happenstance and who knows way less about the stituation than they do.

I don't know, I just find that very funny.

Kids these days are spoiled with their exactly-what-it-says-on-the-tin anime titles like Goblin Slayer and Reincarnated In Another World With a Big-Titty Elf Princess with One-Hit-Kill Attacks. You used to have to meet up in the worst-designed eyesore of a forum and try to figure out what the fuck a "Boogiepop Phantom" is supposed to mean.
