Title: Moves with or without you
I want my message to focus on personal and somewhat of a social issue, based on how our society is run and the fast-paced movement of the world. My inspiration for this work was focused on the passage of time and how the world is constantly moving regardless of if you’re in motion yourself. The story behind this is how during this pandemic everyone is still trying to move on and continue living under these situations. I have some personal feelings related to this just because, during this pandemic, it's been an emotionally trying time but life continues on. I want viewers to see themselves in this piece and be able to relate to what we’re experiencing during these tough times. My overarching goal as an artist is to make people take a step back and see think twice about things and maybe even think a third time to analyze. There is never just one answer to anything, so finding multiple aspects of concepts is important to see. This work will tie into other work I created by pushing that once more that idea of how our society is so quick and fast-paced when it comes to living. It’s important to take a step back and realize that with or without you the world will always keep trying to press. Even in times like these.

So the process of this performance was more about the endurance of looking at oneself, which was a very profound idea to explore. You did a very good job at taking in the visuals of what was reflecting back at you in your mirror. This performance was definitely thought provoking because how it took you the time to analyze different aspects of yourself and it made me do the same honestly. The piece's title and length was perfect for the execution of the project, and the quality and sound level was good as well, lovely work!
The Figure in the Mirror: who am i
For this project I went with an endurance piece, sitting in front of a mirror for an hour. As somebody who hates looking in mirrors this was a very hard and intensive thing to do especially for other people to see but I realized not only did I need it but its the best way to be real with others. I have always struggled with body images and anxiety in way where I just never thought this external body really reflected who I am. By looking at this mirror I had to come to terms with the fact that this who I am to others and not much can change that. A common concept that came up in this is that when you look in the mirror you cant help but touch your face and that is something I couldn’t stop doing. It wasn’t until I watched all the clips over that I realized I was moving pretty much the entire time. So this helped me realize the importance of grounding and that maybe looking in a mirror isn’t such a bad thing.

This was really profound and I liked watching the process through the performance, your handwriting was very pretty and I enjoyed watching you write. It was a compelling performance because it was kind of soothing. The quality of the recording was well and the sound didn’t seem to be the focal point of the video.
I will only write in pen.
My senior year of high school, I developed the habit of erasing and rewriting what felt like everything I wrote down. There was no rhyme or reason to this, and I knew that, but I also knew that not acting out this behavior was just as stressful as acting it out (and it wasn’t something I was ready to work on at that point in time). Because this behavior was so exhausting and frustrating, I wasn’t sure how I would feel during this performance. I thought that I would be frustrated, as I so often was during my senior year, but instead, I felt as though I understood my own intentions in a better way.
youtube
My intention with this performance was always to show others the exhaustion that comes with compulsive behaviors, since it’s not uncommon to minimize both the emotional and physical effects of compulsive and repetitive behaviors. Oddly enough, I’ve dealt with compulsive, repetitive behaviors for as long as I can remember, but I don’t know how many times I’ve given myself breathing room and tried to be understanding with myself, instead of blaming myself (which results in nothing but more stress). My hope is that others can consider repetitive and compulsive behaviors in a more forgiving manner, whether it’s ourselves or others who are dealing with them.

The process and meaning behind this was work was very well executed and made for such a meaningful performance. It really showed how the process and practice of beauty really reign true and how important it is to womanhood by societal standards. The working title, and the performance itself was less than 7 minutes but the meaning was performance thoroughly in the time given. The finished project was so compelling and thought provoking and really made me continue to think after the fact. The quality of the recording was great and the aspect of sound didn’t seem to be the focal point of this performance.

This was a very intricate process where the artist used the endurance of music to successfully show how the different patterns of sound come together to exhibit something greater. The performative aspect of this performance comes through the focus of the beat. The final work was successful because it showed the thinking process behind each move and choice you made! Lovely work! This work was very thought provoking and made me realize how much through the process goes into playing music and how it's about the patterns of sounds that come together. The quality of recording was good, and all the sounds were clear and smooth.

Hello beautiful people!
I hope everyone is doing fine, staying busy and healthy in these tough times of social isolation. As you are all aware, the art world has been strongly affected by the corona crisis, a pandemic that’s been feeding off human lives to spread all over the globe. With this pandemic spreading around, the internet has become our main source of connecting with each other and the best way to share our knowledge and creativity.
My name is Audry Malize, an African American musician based in the Denver area. I have been a musician playing Drum-Sets for about 5 years, and having the opportunity to exhibit and share my talents with the communities around me. This is also something that has truly made me feel blessed and very important in this world. To promote social distancing, I decided to record myself making a Hip-Hop type of beat live for my Performance Art Project. I used a software known as “Ableton Live 10 suite”, A mini keyboard and a speaker as shown in the video. As far as my experience in making beats, I have only been making beats for about six month, and I’m still trying to master it. There is a lot for me to learn in the future and I am hoping to own my own music studio and become one of the best music producers in the future.
Thank you all for watching my video and remember to stay safe, healthy and wash those hands!

Lovely work, Rider
The location you chose for this project was such a creative way to go about achieving the goal and the concept of this piece. I really like how the message screams red, white, and blue to capture the struggle and divide amongst some Americans who wear masks vs. those who don’t.
As for the environment around the piece, There is only one shot of the piece so it’s hard to distinguish where it’s located and why.
The documentation doesn’t present any people interacting with the work on the level in which I feel like this project needs. There should have been people staged nearby the message with masks’ on to prove the point or drive it home to viewers.
Overall the finished project is very compelling and it really is a powerful message basically with what has been going on regarding the pandemic. People are very much divided on the subject which makes having a collective choice to work together much harder to achieve.
module 3: art intervention project. Artist Statement My creation is meant to raise intent to wear masks no matter where people are. We may have a cure in the near future but that shouldn’t stop us from trying to prevent people from getting ill. If we get careless more people could die from us being relaxed than us being freaked out. We should honor our dead and try to prevent more from being added to the number of deceased. Instead of using what I intended to, I used wood and clay. The wood is meant to help it stand out. If this works as intended, people will be guilt tripped into wear masks wherever they are. It will be placed outside in plain view because people who pass by will see it. It will grab their attention by the fact that it’s there. It will be something that is colorful, relatively large that people would generally look at. When you walk on the sidewalk to anywhere, unless you are looking at your phone, you are looking around.

Nice work Jenna!
I really love the concept of this work, and the location of the messages you wanted to send to the public. The placement very much compliments the public and informs them of the concept, after reading the statement the message becomes even more captivating.
There are multiple angles and shots being exhibited here, and it’s very well put off in different locations. The images that tell the viewer the concept is well placed around and very visible but also hidden if not noticed, making the message appear as an easter egg.
In the documentation given, there are cars in the background, and it’s a very public scene in which the photographs have been taken.
The finished project is definitely thought-provoking and definitely can make the viewer think twice and listen to the message being conveyed through this piece
Intervention Project
For this project I really wanted to focus on the beauty that surrounds my neighborhood. When I moved to Denver I was so stoked to be living in Cap Hill because to an outsider it was the best place to be in the city. Since being here I have heard nothing but bad things about it saying that there really is no beauty to the neighborhood due to external forces. Although things are different I still believe this one of the most beautiful neighborhoods for the art, the culture, the diversity, if everyone just looked around for a minute longer it would be easy to see just how great this neighborhood is. (sorry everyone this is so late but the snow storm destroyed the stickers & i had to wait for new ones /.\ but thanks for looking!)

Hey Kendall!
I really enjoyed how much thought and consideration that went into making this piece, the messages are layered and conveyed in such a meaningful way. The craftsmanship was excellent and each image executed such a high level of intervention in the space chosen.
The site and location considered capture the idea very well and the piece has a multitude of messages to the viewer.
There are a handful of images that provide strong documentation to show all extents of the project and really portray the different facets which are happening in this piece. With the pictures provided the public space can imply that in passing the project could interact and evoke emotions in those who view it.
The finished project is both thoughts provoking but also compelling when seeing how it was assembled to portray the message to us viewers. I love the concept and it’s so meaningful and close to the heart for me, thank you for doing such a lovely piece!
Intervention Art Project :Mod 3
Inner Piece
The picture above is the location of the intervention before the installation. My simple art table sits in the corner with tool out available to use at a moments notice.
The goal of my intervention was to intervene on my personal balance. The duality of its use as a shrine to ancestors; while making it a present day offering station to invoke strength within myself tells a story of personal growth with help. Qualities of resilience reside within me, the use of the altar reminds me to acknowledge them.
That balance of past and present can be seen with the attention-grabbing back board with the message, “Black Lives Matter”. The height and visibility of the message parallel my visible race with a heartbreaking, deadly ping of repetition of history. The red triangle represent the blood spilled. Covid looms overhead. Life’s fragility is symbolized with the living plant. As easy as it is to kill a plant by accident, is to the ease of death from this virus. The vine rests on a used painting palette bringing present to past as painting is a stress release. I must remember the things that bring me joy.
This installment sits atop my art table. I left the area set-up for use with my paint shirt draped over a chair. I wanted the installment to be jarring in my organized space. The past draws me back in with the Bhagavad Gita, reminding me of my spiritual journey that began twelve years ago. The book sits closed, now I must ensure I have mastered what I’ve learned thus far. The book acts as a table for the ashtray with palo santo atop. Both items are gifts from my mother making the act of burning the palo santo one that brings me back to reality.
Costume jewelry, formerly owned by my great-grandmother, is draped across my water jar for painting tying the message together. A small book, given to me by an acquaintance, reminds me to think of others from my past and present. The ability to wear the jewelry, along with the smudging, allow me to engage with the space in two ways. The theme of combining personal iconographic items to balance the past and present, thus balancing my intentions and with personal reminders.

Lovely work Mindy!
The location for the piece itself is spot on and delivers the message towards the viewer without even needing to read the artists’ statement. Putting the piece near the lake was a good idea to symbolize the fish being harmed by all the waste.
Strong documentation (video and/or photographs) that show the extent of the project? There seems to be a multitude of angles and shots which show the extent of the project very well and demonstrate the good composition of the artists’ work.
The documentation given has images of the piece being extremely public for all to see who pass by, that being said the piece must have achieved in catching glimpses and making the message so clear/
Overall the finished project came out well, and the theme was very well executed and as for the assembling of the work, it was creative how you made different aspects of trash to resemble the fish who are being harmed by human waste.
Intervention Art - Garbage Fish
I used to live by a beautiful lake in Germany. It was clear and great for a summer swim. Unfortunately though, there would often be beer bottles, candy wrappers and other trash laying around or in the lake, harming the fish and destroying the beauty. For this piece, I decided to do a work that shows how we are ruining nature with trash. I wanted the message to be something like “We are replacing beauty with garbage”. I’m very much into composting, recycling and not littering. I try to avoid plastic straws and dislike seeing garbade near water (or anywhere else in bature for that matter). My intention is that when people see the piece they will become more aware of not throwing their trash in the water and using trash cans. I enjoyed coming up with this idea and creating this piece!

Art Intervention Project
For this project I wanted to try and capture the power that televisions and broadcasting & what they can do to the public, but I still wanted the message to be subtle enough for it to only be something one can think about after more thorough research. In a metaphorical sense I wanted to have an animal represent the follow the pack kind of mentality that the media can portray with the subliminal messages littered throughout channels and broadcasts. I decided to choose the image of a sheep because sheep themselves travel in heard, and in most circumstances sheep tend to follow the leader to the ends of the earth. It's known amongst people that sheep are deemed naive and innocent and can easily be tricked and taken advantage of. In this statement I relate sheep to your average everyday citizen and how they use the media as their source of information for all things. Trusting the media blindly no matter what they might convey to the public is just as dangerous as following the herd of sheep wherever the leader might take them. I was inspired to do something like this for my project because I’ve always found predictive programming to be true or real to some degree, and I feel like if you pay close enough attention to the things you watch and what you surround yourself with, you’ll find so much more information about the truth of it all if you look within. I love watching TV shows and entertainment just as much as anyone else, my message isn’t to turn off your TV and listen to your heart. What I'm trying to say is that it's okay to veer from the herd as an individual sheep, the next time you watch your favorite TV show or source for information. Take a closer look and see what is really being told to you

I really enjoyed the way that the music matched along with the message you’re trying to convey here. It seemed very gritty and dark, edgy but also a multiple of narratives was being told around the theme of death in whatever context that may be. Transitions seemed very nice and I enjoyed watching the clips from all of these classic visuals. Lovely work!

Death Is More Than A Storytelling Device
Death is a recurring storytelling device within various narratives. It could involve the death of a character, having it motivate the plot or the main lead may be dead themselves. Whatever the case may be, it represents a human experience that can affect us at any moment. Especially in Burton’s films, his gothic style mends well with the otherwise uncomfortable subject we’re all prone to. This inspired me because of how prevalent it was within the films. In addition, I recently had to cope with the death of my beloved dog. It taught me how invaluable time is and how I took it for granted. It is part of the human experience, at some point we’ll hit our limit. But this shouldn’t hinder what occurs now, what lives we live, and how we choose to live them. Death, whether through personal experience or a fabricated story, can be devastating to witness. The stories I chose utilize death as a way to represent the human experience, no matter how fictional the characters or the world they inhabit may seem. It’s more than a storytelling device, rather it is something we’ll, unfortunately, encounter throughout lives.

I like how you were able to connect something which was meaningful to you and make it a documentary but also a homage to how unsolved mysteries can go unnoticed. The transitions are a bit confusing to see the switch between different clips, however, I do enjoy the glitch in the audio after each clip. First time around I thought there was something wrong with my computer. I really like how you found something you enjoyed and made it unique to you and the video you wanted to do, over all lovely work!

Canada’s Missing and Murdered Women and Girls
All materials sampled in this work are purely for creative non-profit purposes and will be removed at owner’s request.
As a true crime addict, I am always knee deep in podcasts and documentaries about various murders, missing people, and unsolved mysteries. And while there seems to be endless content on white female victims of crime, there is a noticeable lack of coverage on victims who are people of color. In both Canada and the United States, indigenous women and girls go missing or are murdered at an astonishing rate. According to a Vice News article (linked below), 1,186 First Nations women in Canada had been missing or murdered within the last 30 years. However, other reports claim the number is much higher.
Much like the United States, Canada is plagued with systematic racism that has left countless First Nation families still seeking justice for their loved ones. For this project, I hoped to bring some attention towards what has finally been declared as a genocide by the Canadian government. I encourage you all to read the CBC’s page dedicated to Missing and Murdered women. https://www.cbc.ca/missingandmurdered/

I really like the way you honed in on your technique and managed to create a compilation of all kinds of people and their relation or experience to happiness. I liked the concept that you selected and mixed reality along with fantasy when it comes to aspects with Disney Vs gritty movies like Joker. Editing transitions seemed just right, there wasn’t much error to technical issues with the video itself, very smooth nice transitions. I liked the message conveyed to the audience, taking all of the different scenes really created a new experience to clips I’m familiar with, which was amazing. The editing which was executed was well composed and purposely coordinated to match the overarching theme.

Happiness - Not So Happily Ever After Final Project
As humans, we tend to put so much emphasis on being happy and happiness, and we tend to think that when we are unhappy, there is something wrong. This past summer, I read a book called, Permission to Feel by Marc Brackett. The book talks about how we should allow ourselves to feel and recognize every emotion, and how our emotions aren’t bad, even when we feel the negative ones. In western society, we put so much attention on how life should be and how we should feel. We believe that we will live “Happily ever after” if we do certain things or have certain things. The reality is, constant happiness is not something we can achieve, and learning to accept other emotions than happiness is essential to our wellbeing. With this work, I want to show how we as a society are taught unrealistic expectations of happiness, and no matter whether we are famous, or whether we have everything we could ever desire, it is still possible to feel dissatisfied and unhappy, because happiness does not come from materialism and what we have but rather it comes from inside.

I want to correlate this idea back to how the "stay at home" order forced people to stop moving and reflect on their lives in their own company. COVID 19 has slowed down everyone's fast paced reality, and isolation with the self makes people think about all of there life choices/decisions up to this point. whether they reflect on the good or bad moments they've been through, having to uncover those memories with the self. I want to capture more of how people use social gatherings to repress any problems/issues/negative emotions/ negative situations they're going through. I want to explore more of the dark side of what social connection can do if you never get the chance to cut out time for yourself.

Module 2: Exercise B: Music Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmSJiAWD_KM
For my video I decided to do a montage of my favorite ship for the longest! It’s from the video game Final Fantasy 7 series, all of these clips are from the most recent release of the FF7 Remake! and some clips are from the Crisis core video game.
My all time favorite pairing is Cloud and Aerith, however there are always those people who pair aerith with her ex boyfriend who had passed away prior to the video game. Even though its been years since Aerith has seen Zack, some people still believe she is waiting for her first love to come back to her. Its unknown to players if Aerith ever fell in love with Cloud who resembles her ex, (who’s name is zack) or if she found a new love in cloud.
I paired this song with my old school favorite by Mariana's trench “B team” which is about a man who is in love with a girl who doesn’t really ever express her true feelings which makes him feel like the B-team to her actual love. I felt like it resonated so well with the relationship between Cloud and Aerith, Just because they both have loves prior to each other. Aerith’s being Zack, and Cloud’s being his childhood friend Tifa.
However this video goes more into depth on how Cloud is the B-team to Zack but its interpretation if he really is, or if it just seems that way...
Final Fantasy 7 was my childhood growing up, so the characters and the story mean a lot to me! hope you enjoy!

Still men out there, by Bjorn Melhus:
- This seem out of a horror film just because it the flashing lights had jumped back and forth from old time 60′s and 70′s happily themed music but then would jump to more gunshots. It was very strong transitions and they was a compilation of beats and sounds, and repeats of certain old time voices. It was creepy, and eerie to the ears.
The Clock, Christian Marclay:
- This loop video was quite interesting to say the least, It really represented the concept of time, and the passage of time and how it waits for none else. I really loved how the artist captured this in his work by making it a time loop.
Still like 2001, by Sam Taylor Wood:
- I resonated with this the most out of all the different videos shared among the class. This was compelling because it was the slow passage of time happening over and over bit by bit, where it was very subtle at first and most wouldn’t recognize whats happening until only after a little while when the still life food starts to really decay away. I love the concept of time explored in this light because it really does show how subtle the changes are unless they are watched heavily and even then its such a natural and calm process that not too jarring.
The quintet of the Astonished 2000, by Bill Viola:
- At first I didn’t really understand what I was looking at when it came to this piece, It is really interesting how at certain points the movements are speeded up and then slowed down at different rates. Its also seems like each individual is moving at different rates in comparison to each other, some become more eye catching at different points throughout the video.
Technology/Transformation: Wonder-woman by Dara Birnbaum
- Throughout watching this I kept questioning myself if my tech was acting up or odd because of the repetition of all the scenes multiple times. I then after realized that, this was the effect and my computers doing. I didn’t find this compelling because for most if it I was confused and trying to make since of the editing that was done.
Brent Green - Carlin
-This was moving, and the story that was sharing was moving me to tears. I was first creeped out but the voice and the image because it was of disturbing but I started to listen to the story and I felt caught by that and it grab my attention from there. further more it had drove me to care because of the tone and sound of the voice.
