This combo is my favourite! Tofu, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, quinoa, soya sauce, and garlic powder.

““I never really discussed this with anyone because it sounds pretentious, but I started running ultras to become a better person,” Jenn told me. “I thought if you could run one hundred miles, you’d be in this Zen state. You’d be the fucking Buddha, bringing peace and a smile to the world. It didn’t work in my case - I’m the same old punk-ass as before - but there’s always that hope that it will turn you into the person you want to be, a better, more peaceful person. “When I’m out on a long run,” she continued, “the only thing in life that matters is finishing the run. For once, my brain isn’t going blehblehbleh all the time. Everything quiets down, and the only thing going on is pure flow, It’s just me and the movement and the motion. That’s what I love - just being a barbarian, running through the woods.””

it has taken me years. years. to wrap my head around the fact that when i’m running my best, i have more body fat on me. when i am running my fastest, i have never had “abs” or have been “shredded.” the times where my muscles were more defined or i weighed less were the months that i had 1. no period 2. my running plummeted 3. i was injured 4. i burnt out quickly and always became sick.
it has taken me years to realize and understand that if i want longevity, power, strength, and speed in my running career, and to reach my full potential and the goals i have, that i need to throw away any and all “shoulds” of what my body “should look like” and just let it flow, let it BE, let it become what it is meant to become when i am eating to TRAIN, to COMPETE, to RACE, to RUN. honoring the peanut butter cravings at 10pm at night. the post-race pizza runs with friends. remembering that eating spinach is important but so is eating chocolate.
this has taken me years. i wish it came sooner than now. sometimes i’ll struggle to still understand this. but i will never stop doing my best to remind this girl that if she wants to thrive, she needs to love her body to build it up, to build it to be powerful and strong and energized and, again, for longevity. a “girl on fire” respects what her body needs and feeds it and treats it the way it deserves.

i got my period back regularly. my hair is growing faster. my running has gotten faster despite a more moderate amount of mileage but better quality workouts
i have been eating more than ever (including but not limited to: peanut butter toast before bed, extra servings at every meal, never ever ignoring hunger pangs)
this is not a coincidence
food = fuel
