“THROUGH THE LENS: A COLLECTION OF FILIPINO TRADITIONAL GAMES”

As I sat in the wooden chair, camera in hand, watching the kids debate what they should play on this little street, a feeling of nostalgia washed over me. The picture before me was more than just a photo opportunity; it was a window into my own childhood,friendship, competition, and joy. The afternoon light provided gentle shadows as I carefully framed the photo, attempting to capture the essence of play while not breaking the children’s focus. Each click of my camera seemed like preserving a memory—not just theirs, but also mine.

As part of my ongoing investigation in the friendship,relationship, and the ability of photography to document genuine human moments,I capture two kids playing what looks to be hide and seek, a classic kid’s game.Against the cool structure, a small papaya plant their verdant hideaway, a girl wearing a blue dress, a barely smile spreading across her face enjoying and exciting what will happened next. To their right, a companion stands, counting down the seconds until the search begins. It’s a game of being found and searching, of playful absence and sudden, delighted presence.

My camera captures an amazing scene. Two girls are playing "taksi," a traditional coin game that calls for talent, strategy, and a steady hand, while facing one other and standing barefoot on the ground. Coins that stand for both difficulty and reward are placed in a square on the playing area.Along with the rules and mechanics of "taksi," I also want to communicate the excitement of a flawless shot, the tension of a close game, and the humorous conversation and celebration that go along with each.

In contrast to contemporary video games that frequently place players behind individual screens, classic games like 12 Stones require seating and face-to-face interaction. A girl who is focused on her next shoot as her opponent waits patiently for her next move.The competition consists of friendly rivalry, unexpected wins, and classy losses. Conversations arise in the pauses between moves, and ties that go beyond the game itself are formed in the silence of concentration.

Every picture that i captured remain a quiet yet powerful force in building connections. Traditional Games like (Lutsong Tinik, 12 Stones, Taksi, Takbo-Takbuhan, and Tagu-Taguan) not only offer entertainment but also foster relationships,across, generations and cultures.

Wins and losses are the chapters of those that make up a life story. It is possible for two strangers,a group of friends,peers or even family members to become friends, and acquaintances to become friends. A single game might last for minutes or for hours but playing innumerable games together, a friendship might last a lifetime.

SINULOG JOURNEY

November 13, 2023: This is the day that I joined screening for the upcoming Sinulog sa Kabankalan 2024 Tribal Competition. I'm so happy because our choreographer will choose me as one of the dancers that we will perform in the tribal competition. and the name of our tribe is TRIBU OROBINOCAO, which represents Brgy Orong.

January 21, 2024, 8pm, when the announcer announces the Champion, 1st Runner Up, 2nd Runner Up, 3rd Runner Up, and 4th Runner Up. We are so happy because we don't expect that we are the 1st Runner Up. Because of this, we build unexpected friendships.

Dancing is a timeless and universal form of expression that transcends cultures, ages, and borders. It is a powerful medium that communicates emotions, tells stories, and brings people together. Through dance, individuals can convey joy, sadness, love, and passion, making it a unique and essential part of human experience.

Dancing offers numerous benefits that extend beyond physical health. It improves cognitive function, enhances creativity, and boosts self-esteem. Dance also provides an outlet for stress and anxiety, promoting mental well-being and relaxation. Moreover, dancing fosters social connections and a sense of community, as people come together to share in the joy of movement. Whether performed on stage, in a studio, or at a social gathering, dance has the power to unite people across cultures and generations.

In conclusion, dancing is a universal language that speaks directly to the heart. It is a celebration of human expression, creativity, and connection. Through dance, we can communicate, heal, and inspire each other, making it an essential part of our shared human experience.

This trophy represents the relentless dedication, perseverance, and hard work that turn ambition into achievement. This photo was taken last 2022 during the Spike sa Sinulog. Our team hailed as 1st runner up.

City Meet 2024 held at Brgy. Binicuil. We got the 2nd silver medal for FGSNHS. This medal is a symbol of relentless dedication, sacrifice, and the unwavering commitment to turning hard work into achievement.

Great things are never achieved alone. It’s the power of teamwork, dedication, and relentless hard work that turns dreams into reality. This photo really means to me for this was my last flight for my school.

Life is an unpredictable journey filled with both struggles and achievements. From the very beginning, individuals face various obstacles that test their resilience, determination, and adaptability. However, it is through these struggles that many find the strength to achieve personal growth, success, and fulfillment.

Personal struggles often test one’s emotional and mental strength. Coping with the loss of a loved one or facing a chronic illness can be deeply painful, yet such experiences frequently foster resilience and empathy. In moments of despair, individuals are often forced to reflect on their values and priorities, which can lead to profound personal growth.

On the other hand, achievements in life are the rewards of hard work, perseverance, and the overcoming of adversity. Achievements come in many forms—academic success, career milestones, personal growth, and relationships. Every achievement is a reflection of one’s journey through struggles, sacrifices, and the lessons learned along the way.

Ultimately, life’s struggles and achievements are interwoven, and each one contributes to the unique journey of personal growth and fulfillment. Recognizing and embracing both the hardships and victories along the way allows us to live a life that is not only meaningful but also empowering.

Seafood is a feast for the senses, offering a variety of flavors straight from the ocean. From succulent shrimp and tender fish to sweet crabs and flavorful shellfish, every bite is packed with fresh, natural goodness.

UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF A BALANCED DIET

Food is essential for our survival and comes in many different forms. It provides us with the energy and nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy. There are many types of food, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, and dairy.

Fruits, like apples, bananas, and oranges, are full of vitamins that help keep our immune system strong. Vegetables, such as carrots, spinach, and broccoli, are packed with minerals and fiber that help with digestion. Grains like rice, wheat, and oats are a good source of carbohydrates, which give us energy throughout the day.

Meat, fish, and beans are great sources of protein, which helps build muscles and repair tissues. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt provide calcium, which is important for strong bones and teeth.

Eating a variety of foods from different food groups is important for maintaining good health. A balanced diet helps us stay active, feel good, and keep our bodies working properly. It’s important to enjoy all kinds of foods in moderation to stay healthy.

When Strangers Become Friends

Do you know what friends are? Have you ever met someone you didn't know, but suddenly became close friends with them? Friends are individuals who are close to you and supportive of each other. They are people you can trust, rely on, and enjoy spending time with. A true friend accepts you for who you are and is willing to share in your joys and sorrows.

When strangers become friends, it can be a wonderful and life-changing experience. This experience is common for many people. Sometimes, meeting a friend in unexpected places, like school or on a bus, can lead to a beautiful friendship. I met two girls named Sarah and Kristel, who were the daughters of a pastor. They changed my life in ways I never expected. They encouraged me to go to church, talk to Jesus, and pray.

Most importantly, they taught me not to be afraid of being alone because I was never truly alone; God was always with me. Their words always had wisdom. I used to have trust issues because of my previous friends who used me for their own gain. They would only be friends with me when they needed something from me. This made me ask myself, "Why? What did I do wrong?" But then I met Sarah and Kristel.

We met in Grade 10, and I was going through a tough time after losing my best friends. But Sarah and Kristel were there for me, listening to my problems and offering words of encouragement. We became friends, and they taught me about God's love. We shared our experiences, ideas, and problems with each other. We celebrated each other's birthdays, victories, and achievements. Being with them was one of the happiest moments of my life.

In conclusion, when strangers become friends, it can broaden our perspectives and help us learn more. In today's world, it's hard to find true friends. So, we must be careful and cherish the ones we have. Having true and unexpected friends around you is the best feeling ever. They make life's challenges more bearable, and the memories we create with them are unforgettable.

We celebrated Sarah's 18th birthday at La Familia café shortly after.

After our class we went out for snacks together one afternoon. It was my first time trying batchoy.

We went to church together for the first time.

In December 2023, we went to Kabankalan City to buy gifts and ate at Golden Plates it's one of my memorable moments that I will never forget in my life.

Our graduation day was a mix of emotions. We were happy because of all our sacrifices, late nights, and hard work, but sad because we were going to go our separate ways to pursue our dreams.

Music isn’t just sound, it’s a shared heartbeat, a collective soul. And tonight, as Kabankalan City Rondalla Ensemble we played our hearts out during the Lights On Ceremony at Kabankalan Public Plaza. Strumming through the holiday spirit, rondalla in full harmony. Guided by the hands of our conductor, we let our instruments speak where words fall short.

Strings in sync, hearts in harmony, celebrating music and appreciation. A melody of gratitude playing for those who make a difference. Together, we let our strings serenade those beautiful souls as we showcase our talent at Zaycoland Hotel and Resort during the “Division Stakeholders Appreciation Program”.

Strings that tell stories each instrument carries the soul of rondalla music. These 2 instruments are the ones that i love during my whole rondalla journey. The sound of every pluck of strings feels like a melody in my ears that is so good and nice to hear.

Strumming tradition, playing with passion our rondalla family in harmony! With full of pride and honor, we are proud to present our beloved school Florentino Galang Sr. National High School during the “Fun Fiesta sa Pilipinas 2022”. And because of our dedication to give harmony and melody to our performance we were able to bring home the 4th runner up award! All Glory to God❤️

Learning, playing, and keeping the rondalla tradition alive one note at a time! Teaching the students at Camingawan Elementary School about basic rondalla techniques makes my heart so happy! Being able to share my skill and talent is a privilege to me. Letting the harmony fill the room as i start plucking the strings to play one of my favorite songs that we played entitled “Can’t Help Falling Inlove”

“THE STRINGS THAT SAVED ME”

In 2022, I joined Magalang Rondalla, and the experience has been the most amazing and unforgettable moment of my high school life. Rondalla is not just about music; it is something that brought me back to life, something I never knew I was capable of.

From my very first stage performance until now, it still feels like a dream. I never expected that this group would open my eyes to something that would heal me, and that is music. Rondalla became my stress reliever; whenever my mind was in chaos, just listening to every note I plucked on the strings felt like a gentle breeze taking away all the negativity inside me. Because of this, I was able to meet incredible people, people I now treasure the most. Especially our Tatay, Tatay Rovic, the man behind all those magical and harmonious performances.

I used to think I didn’t have any talent, until God suddenly pushed me into something I had no idea about. Something that, at first, I thought was just full of boring music.

The pictures I attached to this blog are just a few of the performances and achievements our group has had. We were able to reach this far because of our dedication and love for music. As I step into college, leaving behind my beloved school where my passion was nurtured, I will always go back to my first pluck, the one that became my lasting love. I will always look back at this story, the story of my rondalla journey.
