April update
April has seemed like the longest month - even though we've had lots of lovely holiday and memorable moments. We've covered everything from snow to days of 23+. It's barely rained at all. My attention has been diluted by work, garden and other creative pursuits. I've made no attempts at all to deal with sewing in any ends. Here are some picture highlights.

March update
2 new colours in the scarf for March. Some brown sugar for the days when it was nearly 20 degrees and on 31st March we had snow. I still haven’t worked out a system for sewing ends.
Up until the last few days it has been firmly over 10 degrees which means it is time to start tidying the garden. Of course I’ve already got peas and other seedlings out there. All probably well frosted by now.
This is just one of life’s many frustrations just now.
At least we’ve made it to the Easter holidays. Phew.

im making a temperature scarf for 2022, heavily inspired by the one Josie George made a few years ago. you can read more about that here.https://mymodernmet.com/josie-george-temperature-scarf/ Each day i take a photo that records the temperature and weather. im trying to take them between 12 and 2ish each day as i usually can go for a quick lunchime walk. Monthly updates will be on the temperature scarf page on this blog. Hopefully I'll have a lovely record of the year by the end of December.

I’ve knitted my first sock!
This is with 2.5mm DPNs, using West Yorkshire Spinners Signature Sparkle, and following Winwick Mums basic sock pattern. I made so many mistakes. And the sock is VERY snug, or possibly a little small. But it is done!

My 2020 achievements are few and far between. But I have learnt to knit. This is partly because I run a community knitting group and felt I really ought to learn, but also, it seems if you want to get serious about making garments like hats, socks and jumpers, then knitting is the way forward.
Making this hat and mittens has been quite the learning curve. The hat I started in August and finished in November. The mittens I started in November and finished today. I went wrong so many times. Why must patterns be written in ridiculous code instead of words? So many times, a lot of time and effort would have been saved if only the pattern included a few more words and occasionally a simple instruction.
Nevertheless, here we are. Both patterns from Erika Knight ‘Simple Knitting’ and knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Shetland Tweed - colourway ‘Eswik’
I sized up the hat, and knitted on 5mm needles as the last time I knitted this pattern the hat was only fit for my toddler.
