Tumblr media
Source: ASRV
Ever since the quarantine, gyms and other sport rec. areas have been closed forcing individuals to find other ways to stay active and in shape. Now with a bit more time on our hands, there has been a huge growth is outdoor running. No matter the time of the day, you will see at least a handful of runners in any given neighborhood,  with keeping social distancing in mind of course! All walks of life are part taking in running outdoors, some have been doing it for a while, others just starting. The rise of a streetwear trend that has become somewhat universal at this point in time, athleisure. A mixture of athletic and leisure wear. Something versatile you can wear around the house and can get up and go workout/run ant any given moment. Athleisure has been around for a while but has definitely hits its peak in recent weeks.

Street wear and Footwear
It is all about sneakers! Sneakers are THE streetwear footwear. The sneakers add a style and comfort to the streetwear look.  Another popular type of footwear in streetwear are combat boots. Footwear is a major part of streetwear fashion. Beyonce recently came out with the collection Ivy Park X Adidas included sneakers which were Adidas Super 72, Nite Jogger and Ultra Boost in the colors of the collection. Off White’s Virgil Abloh collaborated with Nike to design a number of sneakers that created so much hype for Nike and impacted the sneaker game. The most widely used sneakers which are worn by everyone are Nike Air Force 1s, Old Skool Vans and Adidas Superstar. High end fashion brands are not backing down from the hype that the sneakers have created. Gucci tennis shoes are very popular. The unique embroidered design with flowers and bees does not seem very streetwear but looks very cool regardless. Balenciaga released a very famous shoe which looked like socks and certainly trickled down to the average consumer. It is called the Speed Sneakers. Yeezys are also very famous in the sneaker world. Everyone is talking about the Yeezys and the innovative design. The Kardashian clan and Kanye West have a huge following which promote them. Yeezys have a unique and signature style that makes them recognizable from all the others. Customization is big in streetwear. People buy the shoes and get it customized by talented artists who work on a commission. It is actually a great way to make them fit with your outfits.

A Streetwear Forecast for 2020
(Last December when Virgil Abloh, the pioneer himself, foresaw the end of streetwear in 2020, it caused quite a stir within the fashion industry. This year, he clarified his “streetwear is dead” comment in an interview with Vogue. “[I]f you speak to anyone that’s been in streetwear for the last 15 years, it’s always had this sort of nine lives, dying and coming back, and dying and coming back,” Abloh says. Pertaining to fashion, that is very much true. We’ve seen things come and go, only for them to come back later. From the chokers from the 90s return before the end of the decade, cargo pants of the same decade re-emerging now, and so forth. But Abloh’s statement still makes me think, what is next for streetwear? What differences will there be in streetwear in the future that will make it different from its previous incarnations? Here is a list of possibilities moving forward:
Athleisure/Activewear
Similarly to streetwear, athleisure has been a style that has spiked in popularity in the past two years. Also, streetwear is known to work with different parts of the industry. In the past, it was luxury. So it wouldn’t be a reach to me if these two worlds combined in the future. We are even starting to see it now, with Beyoncé’s IVY PARK x Adidas drop.

Women in Streetwear
One thing that can be noticed on sight when it comes to streetwear is how male-dominated it is. A lot of the people designing are men and style itself caters to men. It is a stark difference from streetwear’s own origins, where women played such a huge role in shaping it to what it is today. Though, due to the buying power that women have, streetwear will shift to be geared towards them this year and even later on. Some women-owned brands I can see gaining more popularity over time such are LIV Streetwear, HLZBLZ, and MadeMe, all depicted below

SHAPES: Converse’s First Genderless Apparel Collection
Tumblr media
Source: Converse
Famous for their approach on unisex footwear, Converse has decided to stay true to their roots and release a genderless apparel collection, “SHAPES”. The collection is based on the original idea of creating unisex styles for a modern market. The collection will feature 5 core pieces ranging in 4 different sizes based on body shapes instead of the typical men and women sizing. Aside from staying true to Chuck Taylor’s vision, they are also being conscious of the environment featuring 50% recycled cotton.

VP of Global Apparel at Converse Jonathan Tappan says, “SHAPES is the perfect example of how to meet the consumer in their element. By bringing functionality, inclusivity and comfort to everyday clothes, we believe we can really change the game.”

What is a HypeBeast?
Hype beast or Hypebeast is a new term that has emerged out of the culture of streetwear. Urban Dictionary defines Hype beast as, “a kid that collects clothing, shoes, and accessories for the sole purpose of impressing others. Although the individual may not have a dime to their name, they like to front like they are making far more than everybody else. Equipped with mommies credit card the Hype Beast will try his hardest to make sure he has every pair of Nike’s he saw Jay-Z wearing on 106 & Park.” This essentially means that hype beasts are people who go after or wear what is hyped or in demand. This is meant to be “new '' or “cool” but it still has a negative connotation behind it. You will find hype beasts wearing Brands including but not limited to Nike, Supreme, Off White, Gucci, Stussy, Balenciaga, Vans and Adidas. These brands are a major part of Streetwear Style which means that HypeBeast culture is expensive. LA, New York. Tokyo and Seoul are some major areas where the HypeBeast culture is prevalent. Downtown LA area could be one of the areas where you can buy hype beast clothing from thrift stores.

Streetwear and...Food?

Last week, Supreme revealed their accessories along with their Spring/Summer 2020 collection. And in Supreme fashion, you can imagine there was a logo ridiculously placed on any non-fashion item you can think of. The drop featured a Mac Tools Workstation, a BMX Dirtbike, Leica Binoculars, and so forth. But of all of these items, there was one particular item that gained social media’s attention. It might be smaller in size than all the previous items that were listed, but it somehow the most controversial— yes, we are talking about the Supreme Oreos.

They are set to come in 3-cookie packs, and it is rumored to retail for $8. The cookies are the Double Stuf ones, too. The release date is unknown, but that hasn’t stopped people who snagged these packs early from selling them on eBay and people bidding up to $1,500 for 12 packs.

Now, flexing, or showing off your expensive goods, has an extremely visible presence in streetwear. People want to give off the impression of wealth online, and they will pay whatever it takes to do so. Supreme understands that, and they manage to take it to astronomic levels. Supreme gives its fans the tools to flex in every aspect of their lives. You wanna feel rich while storing your tools? Supreme has your back. If you want to remind people of their brokenness while showing off your dirt biking skills, Supreme has you covered there as well. And now, you can drip while you’re eating.

Streetwear OG Comes Out of Retirement For a New Collaboration
Tumblr media
Dior has worked with many different streetwear brands such KAWS, Hajime Soryama, and Raymond Pettibon under the unity of creative director Kim Jones. End product being designs so eye-catching and pivotal in many streetwear influencers’ wardrobes. Jones now has his eyes on someone else to curate the next Dior collection, retiree John Stussy, creator of Stüssy. Kim Jones is far from a stranger from collaborations with streetwear brands, being responsible for the instant classic Louis Vuitton x Supreme collaboration. Dior’s Pre-fall 2020 showcased Stüssy’s iconic lettering and psychodelic palm tree multicolor pattern. The fact that John Stussy is coming out of retirement just for this collaboration has caused quite the stir from true streetwear fanatics.

Beyoncé’s New IVY PARK collection is changing the street-wear game and we LOVE to see it
Singer, Song-writer, Dancer, actress, Fashion Queen Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter recently unveiled her new Ivy Park collection which is in collaboration with Adidas and it is fire. The collection is to be considered as sportswear but it is very easy to incorporate it in Streetwear. The collection is very cohesive and received a lot of praise from the fashion industry and we can totally see why. The first pictures of the collection itself were introduced by Queen B herself in the most Beyoncé fashion and it took our breath away. The pieces are designed in such a way that they can be paired with each other. The color palette itself is quite unique; it is predominantly a rich Maroon with Cream and Solar Orange. The color combination is unique and never before seen! The pieces in the collection go together with the colors and create an entire look. Some of the pieces include sneakers, bodysuits, Sweatshirts, Joggers, shirt dress, sports bras, cargo pants, leggings and much more and that screams PEAK STREETWEAR to us. We already knew that  Beyoncé is the queen of streetwear and this collection just proves it.
P.S it's already SOLD OUT, Her Power!

Luxury Brands: What Put Them on the Streetwear Train

Gucci: The Tracksuit
There is a golden rule in wearing luxury streetwear: FLEX. And if there is one brand that has embraced that, it is Gucci, especially with their tracksuits. Sure, they have items like t-shirts and slides that are applicable. But their tracksuits, from head to toe, are equal parts casual and ostentatious, all while without sacrificing the brand aesthetic. With their distinct branding, it is so easy to identify Gucci, it is almost muscle memory.
Balenciaga: The Speed Trainers

Named the shoe of 2017 by British Vogue, the Speed Trainer, even in 2020, is a staple in luxury streetwear. With countless celebrities and influencers repping the shoe, it is easy to justify its rapid rise. In her 2018 hit “I Like It,” Cardi B said, “I like those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks.” And clearly, she is not the only one.
Louis Vuitton: Collaboration Pieces

With their easily recognizable logos and motifs, Louis Vuitton and Supreme joined forces for the Fall/Winter season of 2017 to make an exclusive streetwear collection. Its success put the luxury brand on the map as streetwear. These collaborations are a two-way street; while the streetwear brand is becoming more established by working with luxury brands, the luxury brands build a wider audience.
