Charlie DOVES: Love & War Exhibition at The Bishop Gallery
For over two years, Charlie Doves, aka DOVES, has been putting in work that has culminated in his solo show Love & War. Obviously drawing inspiration from the Japanese woodblock style of the 17th century, Doves juxtaposes traditional elements for pop culture references - like red Yeezy Boosts - with incredibly opulent colors and a highly graffiti-graphic style.
Sneakers, like the Air Max 1, Nike Yeezy II, and Air Jordan VI, and comicbook references pepper the latest DOVES Love & War exhibition which runs from February 4 to March 2 at The Bishop Gallery in Brooklyn. If you're in the Tri-State area this isn't an exhibit to miss.

Street Art from Austin, Texas
I was in Austin, Texas for a few days and captured some art from all around the city. Austin is young and hip, with lots of money floating around. However, the city seems to be a fan of the arts, especially street art. There were new murals going up every day that I was there.
Austin may also be one of the best food cities in America, save for New York and LA, so eat your way through Austin sometime!

Covenant House x Street Smart - Help Us Make a Difference
This winter season, homeless youth nonprofit organization Covenant House and Street Smart have come together to make try and make a difference. For every beanie we sell we are donating one to Covenant House in an effort to make things just a little bit easier for these kids come Christmas Eve.
Covenant House provides 24/7 crisis care and ongoing support for homeless kids and teenagers in need. Since 1972, the organization has pursued its mission of helping homeless kids escape the streets. Each year, more than two million kids in America will face a period of homelessness. While on the street, 28 percent of youth have been victims of multiple types of assault or violence.
The realities of youth homelessness in America are staggering, but you can make a difference by donating any amount you can to Covenant House here. If you'd like to purchase a beanie, you can do so here.
The best way to combat this homelessness problem is to educate oneself.
Why are teens homeless?
To understand youth homelessness, one must examine the issues that lead to these unfortunate circumstances. Kids become homeless for a variety of reasons which include running away from home, being abandoned by parents or guardians, emancipation, and aging out of state or foster care. Once homeless, few safety nets are available for young people who are still financially, emotionally and legally dependent on adults. Without resources, an adequate support system, and the skills to live independently, the streets can become one of the only options for homeless youth.
Behind the face of every homeless young person is another heartbreaking story – a teenage boy abused by his alcoholic parent, a pregnant girl rejected by her guardian, or a teenager trying to escape gang membership or a life of forced prostitution.
Acknowledging the depth of the homeless crisis is America is the first step in fixing it. Here are some statistics to get you thinking.
57% of homeless kids spend at least one day every month without food.
In the United States, as many as 20,000 kids are forced into prostitution by human trafficking networks every year.
According to a study of youth in shelters, nearly 50% reported intense conflict or physical harm by a family member as a major contributing factor to their homelessness.
More than 25% of former foster children become homeless within two to four years of leaving the system.
50% of adolescents aging out of foster care and juvenile justice systems will be homeless within six months because they are unprepared to live independently and have limited education and no social support.
Almost 40% of the homeless in the United States are under 18.
In addition to these heartbreaking stats, a study issued by the Covenant House Institute revealed that:
41% of Covenant House kids witnessed acts of violence in their homes.
36% of Covenant House kids indicated that someone in their family used drugs regularly.
19% of Covenant House kids reported being beaten with an object.
19% of Covenant House kids reported that they have endured sexual abuse.
15% of Covenant House kids reported that someone close to them had been murdered.
That's why Covenant House works day and night to provide shelter and support for kids who have endured lives of abuse, neglect, and homelessness.
Please try and help Covenant House reach their $500k goal by 12/31 by donating whatever you can. Thank you for your support.

Montana Colors App Version 2.0 is Now Live
Montana Colors just revamped their app. Now with brand new features like full color charts for every MTN spray available (as well as explanations about every spray) and an easy to use snap-and-save blackbook, the app is better than ever.
I've been playing around with it today and I dig it. The app also has a brilliant feature "Search For Colors." It allows a user to snap a picture and use a very exact cursor to pinpoint exactly which color to match. The matched color appears right above the photo the user snapped -- super useful.
MTN has also integrated their MTN-WORLD blog, videos, and news into the app, as well as the companies history and green efforts. Fortunately, the app is available on the Google Play Store as well as the App Store. If you check it out, let me know what you think in the comments below.

A Glimpse at Some Oakland Street Art
O-town gets down. Here are a few shots of art in Oakland, CA, courtesy of @samgoldowitz. The style of the mural of the first few shots reminds me of early work from Todd McFarlane and Jim Lee, both comic book artists.

What Happened at the Burning of Kingston II?
Street Smart doesn't have video of the 2015 Burning of Kingston II this time around. We do have a huge gallery of images from the Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston where both of the Burning of Kingston events took place.
It looks like some of the pieces have begun being buffed or simply weren't finished...if you were at the event please comment and let us know what went down. You can hit us at the Street Smart socials as well, be it on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr.
Check out the images and let me know which pieces you thought were best.

Pokras Lampas and the Biggest Calligraphy Artwork in Russia
It's huge. It's messy. It's absolutely majestic.
On the roof of the Red October plant in the heart of Moscow, Pokras Lampas and Smokin' Heroes team created a piece of art that spans 1625 square meters which took 720 liters of paint. It took two days. You can type Type "Bersenevskaya Nab., 2\1, Moscow" in Google Maps to see the piece.
"This project breaks records on the complexity and scale in Russia. It was a real challenge for me and my team. We designed a brush with an ink surface of 1 meter using four big brooms specifically for this event. We could fail this project many times due to the rains and problems with the delivery of hundreds of liters of paint from another city.
My emotions from the last drawn line were extremely bright, so now I want to do something even larger and crazier.
Huge thanks goes to all project participants and to Panasonic company for their contribution to the development of contemporary art."
The work is striking, raw, and breathtaking. Check out the video below and the gallery of photos. Share your thoughts in the comments.

CESISM at WallWorks NY 2015
I'll be honest: BATES, Niels Shoe Meulman, and CES are my favorite artists. CES recently killed WallWorks NY 2015 with his solo exhibition the Instagram show. The opening was Saturday, September 19 and it runs until October 14, 2015. WallWorks is in the BX at 39 Bruckner Blvd. so head over asap. They're open Tuesday - Friday from 11 AM - 5 PM.
I've covered a bunch of his sneaker related art already (here for more) but CES draws on pop-culture from the past, iconic figures like Jimi Hendrix and Cheech and Chong, and great movies and TV shows like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and TMNT for his art. Check out the photos below and let me know what you think in the comments. Here's the recap from FreshPaintNYC.

Ever wondered about the Paris subway system? The secret passage ways, abandoned subway stops, and long forgotten tracks? In this beautiful video by David O. and Alejandro García, the two explore the metro at night and during the day. They captured beautiful graff deep underground, old advertisements posted on walls decades ago, and what it's like to spend time in the metro just...watching and filming.
